Union files complaint against Palin

The GOP candidate for vice president, Gov. Sarah Palin, may be facing yet another ethics investigation back in her home state of Alaska.

An ethics complaint obtained by NBC News was filed yesterday by the police officers' union in Alaska, requesting a probe into possible wrongdoing by the governor or her office. It was brought on behalf of state trooper, Mike Wooten, the ex-brother in law of Palin, who is at the center of the "Troopergate" scandal.

The complaint alleges that the governor or her staff may have have improperly disclosed information from Wooten's personnel records. The complaint alleges "criminal penalties may apply."

"It seems obvious to us somebody has improperly accessed [Wooten's] personnel file," John Cyr, director of the union that filed the complaint, told NBC News.

The McCain-Palin campaign today launched a spirited defense when contaced by NBC News. They say the personnel files were not protected. A campaign source says Wooten himself had previously signed a waiver allowing a divorce lawyer to obtain his personnel records. The campaign then sent a copy of that waiver to NBC News, which reads, "I hereby waive any privilege I may have to said information to said attorneys."

The issue concerns disclosures about Wooten's records made by a Palin aide -- Frank Bailey -- in a February 2008 phone conversation. The police officers union complaint claims the transcript of that conversation clearly indicates there was improper access to Wooten's records.

The McCain-Palin campaign, in a response to NBC News, provided a family twist to the story, saying the governor's husband, Todd Palin, was the source of that information to Bailey. They say the information came from divorce proceedings, and that Gov. Palin never improperly accessed any records.

"When you're a real reformer like Sarah Palin, who isn't afraid to take on entrenched political interests," Taylor Griffiths, a spokesman for McCain, said, "scurrilous attacks and empty allegations come with the territory."

You know she is against sex education which may explain why her 17 year old didn't know better
Come on people...get off of her she can do or say anything she want's...after all she was a POW, oh...I'm sorry she's running with a former POW, don't you know that gives them free rain!
They call her barracuda for a reason;cause something stinks here. maybe coming from below the belt
Shorter McCain spokesman Taylor Griffiths:
"When you're really corrupt like Sarah Palin,
reform comes with the territory."
There are rumors that an opponent of Sarah in Alaska is pushing some of this stuff.
She's got quite a bit of dirt on her for being a new governor in a small-time state.  Methinks McCain may have placed an albatross around her neck.  I know my wife is angry that Palin could be the first female VP and not someone of better quality.
Please!!  Another corrupt, moose-herding Alaskan, cut from the same cloth of corrupt Republicans.  They make me sick!
uhhhhh.....right.  Give me a break.
Another coverup. When will it end?
Is this the same trooper Mike Wooden that tazed his ten year old son?  NBC had better check their facts or it will back fire.
I keep waiting for the day McCain and the rest of the Repubs start defending Palin by telling us she's a POW every 5 minutes...
Sarah Palin reminds me a lot of Bush 2000, a popular governor with no foreign experience.
So now Alaskan troopers are part of the left and slinging "scurrilous attacks and empty allegations"?  I thought they were the good guys?
McCain is in line with ROVE, BUSH/CHENEY and so is his VP choice Palin

THEY ARE ABOVE THE LAW REMEMBER?
Okay rightous republicans....you are always judging other people.
Just another cop gone bad. And, of course, NBC's nut jobs want to make something out of it. Man, you guys won't have ANY viewers if you keep this bull---- up.
these people truly think they are ABOVE the law, so this doesn't surprise me in the least...makes sense from a person who wanted Alaska to succeed from the Union and be their own country...we have to STOP these anti-American activities!!!
Yeah! Just like those scurrilous attacks against Scooter Libby. Oh! That's right, the Republican VP Chief of Staff was convicted of Perjury and Obstruction of Justice. Then the Republican President pardoned the traitor. Now Republican Ted Stevens has been idicted. Oh, those empty allegations. And how about Larry Craig, now Convicted of lude acts in a men's room. Darn that libral media.
palin and mccain should know very well that statements in palin's defense do not hash with reality.  american people are not stupid, not able to put two and two together.  the answer is always four.  but, of course, palin and mccain would make you believe the answer is otherwise.
The only reason why this is news is because McCain didn't do his homework and offered the 2nd highest position in our country to someone who may be at risk of being fired from her current job? This is not a convenient complaint by the unions to support the Dems. This is the republicans learning that they need to do their research and stop making knee-jerk decisions.

McCain makes bad decisions. No research and poor judgement.
Watching the GOP convention made me feel glad I'm a democrat. Sarah rubs me the wrong way.  Thank you Mr. McCain, you just helped Obama get elected.
