Conspiracy theorists, unite!

Posted: Thursday, September 04, 2008 5:03 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Mike Levine
ST. PAUL, MN -- Get your facts straight.

That's what the dozens of Ron Paul supporters shouting outside of the Xcel Energy Center yesterday afternoon were telling Americans to do. They said the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, were an inside job.

"The Trade Center was never even hit by a plane. It was a 47-story skyscraper that would've dominated the St. Paul skyline," one of the protesters screamed into a megaphone. When a bystander shouted back that the Twin Towers were more than 100 stories tall, the protester insisted: "I don't have the exact numbers. I'm sorry I'm not an Encyclopedia Britannica." (In fact, 7 World Trade Center, which was near the Twin Towers, was 47 stories tall.)

Then the protester got back on message: "Where's the footage of the Pentagon being hit? Why's the government hiding that from us? America wake up!"

The crowd -- carrying signs saying "Reinvestigate 9/11," "Bush: Liar. Murderer. Terrorist" and "Ron Paul" -- broke into cheer: "9/11 was an inside job! 9/11 was an inside job!"

"I don't believe Osama bin Laden did the attacks," said 21-year-old Geoff Dittberner, of South St. Paul. "I think the American government was behind it. Did you hear about the meeting Dick Cheney had … [where he] discussed 12 different ways to incite a war with Iran? Sy Hearse reported that, and he’s a pretty renowned journalist," he noted, referring to the New Yorker's Seymour Hersh.

Protesters handed out literature with "11 Remarkable Facts About 9/11," including claims that "some of the alleged 9/11 ‘'suicide hijackers' are still alive and well" and "the sudden, vertical, explosive, and total collapse of the Twin Towers at near freefall speed can only be explained by controlled demolition."

So why are Ron Paul supporters, many of them Republicans themselves, protesting the Republican convention? "We want to bring the GOP back to its roots," insisted 24-year-old Adam Gross of Kansas City, Mo, who said he’s a registered Republican. He had slapped a bumper sticker onto his Ron Paul sign that read, "9-11 was in inside job."

Twenty-five-year-old Melissa Miles, an Idaho native, expressed similar disappointment in the Republican Party. "[John] McCain doesn’t exactly vote constitutionally every time," she said. "We actually have a candidate who voted constitutionally every time. But he didn’t exactly get fair play."

Neither did the facts of Sept. 11, according to the crowd. "The mainstream media refuses to cover these facts," shouted one protester. "They refuse to ask why the victims' families only had 30% of their questions answered by the 9/11 Commission report."

The protesters then marched peacefully to the set of MSNBC, in a park just outside of the Xcel Energy Center.

As MSNBC host and NBC political director Chuck Todd wrapped up his telecast, another protester shouted, "We’re sick and tired of sex, drugs and rock and roll. We want real news!"

Todd signed off with this: "You’re watching MSNBC, the place for politics… and megaphones."

These people are right. We should listen to them. We should all wear the same warm up suits and shoes too, and drink anything they tell us to drink.

Sarah Palin is even more of an empty suit than John McCain.
The republican party as a whole is a joke.  Anyone who votes this ticket, deserves exactly what they are going to get:

War, war, and more war

More corporate controlled government where bills and laws are past for their benefit and not for the best interest of the the tax-paying citizens.

More lies, deceit, and cover-ups, especially with the corporate controlled media.

The rich get richer at the expense of everyone else.

The economy will continue to suffer.

No health care reform

Tampering with Social Security, etc.

This country will continue to be despised around the globe.

But the hockey-mom and the senile-senior will be giddy with their new found power.

You kind of wonder why these people don't have jobs, but then you think about it for a while, and then you understand.
The guy sounds like Biden.
Wow!  I wonder if they're going to be arrested too . . . preemptively, unconstitutionally?
For starters, Laura Bush was in the Capitol Bldg. in DC when the planes first hit New York. Her life was in grave danger.

George HW & Barbara Bush were up in an airplane flying on the morning of Sept. 11th. Their lives were in grave danger, as no one knew exactly where these planes were headed.

The Pentagon? Well, it looks like fuselage in the Pentagon and pieces of airplane parts scattered all over. Did it have to be filmed? Is that the proof you need? Instead of physical evidence? If there was no plane, then what happened? Because people did die that morning.

Did Rumsfeld himself plan this? Afterall, he was in the Pentagon at the time.
Chuck cracks me up.  But not as much as the notion that Palin or McCain have anything to offer my family or my town.  I don't find her story "compelling"... I find it shocking that she is willing to take an already stressed family and make them manage without her while she takes her show on the road.

As for Ron Paul, he's providing a terrific side-show, but his impact remains to be seen.  I'm more interested in how he and Bob Barr are polling in battleground states where 1-2% of the vote could make a real difference.

Got to love democracy Chucky T.

Why no hype over the 15,000 at the Paul convention and 20,000 at McInsaneInTheMembrane convention.

Humm...not really a unified party is it?
Which pentagon hit are they protesting against?Bill  ayersTis is just so confusing.(Obamas Bud)or the Bushies?
The fact that we have American citizens who want to believe our government planned Sept. 11th is ridiculous.

The fact that Osama Bin Liden has not as yet been caught should be on everyone's mind. This is where our government dropped the ball. Big time.
Which pentagon hit are they protesting against?Bill  ayersTis is just so confusing.(Obamas Bud)or the Bushies?
The most publicly documented tragedy in American history, and these people just bring on the crazy. There are so many better conspiracy theories. Let's talk about the Bilderberg Group or JFK or something. Sheesh.
These folks will soon be joined by the meatheads that think there is a "vast liberal media conspiracy" to find out just who Sarah Palin is. But seriously, it is sexist to just not take John McCain's word for something.
I'm disappointed in Rob Paul.  He claims to be this big crusader, but he tiptoes around the Republican party.  If he had run for the Libertarian ticket, he would have cleaned Bob Barr's clock.

In her speech last night, Gov. Palin told the parents of special needs children they would have an advocate in the White House.  That no doubt scored points with the voters but she didn’t say which areas of special needs children would be addressed or how.  Has she studied the health care system proposed by Senator McCain?  If Big Government isn’t going to cover special needs children then it will have to be Big Business since individuals will be responsible for finding and purchasing their own health insurance.  It won’t be the responsibility of the Federal Government or the employers but cash-strapped states. I suppose that will be easier since the family will get $5000 a year in tax breaks to spend on health insurance, assuming that family makes enough money not to need the $4500 for other things, like food.  We all know how well health insurance companies respond to the needs of their clients requiring long term health care and how excited they will become at the prospects of adding clients with pre-existing conditions, such as those of special needs children.  GET REAL!
Would anyone else on here like to take up how the education of special needs children will be affected as the federal dollars continue to dry up as they have in the last eight years, and more programs for these special needs children are closed down because they have entirely lost the necessary funding?
How sad to use special needs children to wring a tear and a vote out of a gullible public.
Ron Paul - now there's a real nut case. Sometimes i think he's an alien.
And of course when MSNBC covers a Ron Paul rally they give footage to side protests already rejected by Ron Paul as not being something he believes.

However, there are too many of us, and we know what Ron Paul stands for, and we know when coverage is really an advertising campaign to marginalize him.
Excuse me to interupt these conversations, but has anyone noticed that the economy is melting down?  The stockmarket crashed 350 points and the financial sector is very worried about a Soviet style economic meltdown for the U.S.  We may look back on this day and say that while the press fussed about politics the U.S. economy collapsed.
Actually, Osama hasn't even been charged in connection with 9/11...
Fell at near free-fall speed. How can you explain this. The footage they are referring to is from a gas station across from the Pentagon. The government took the tape, and WILL NOT release it. Why not??????

Also many eye-witnesses (i.e. those in towers that made it out alive) reported TWO explosions, FIRST one at the bottom, THEN the one at the top.

I dare you doubters to watch the movie Zeitgeist or Loose Change and then make up your OWN mind.
If Osama gets caught then the GOP has nothing to scare people with.

I am SO SICK of the GOP.
Our country has a factual history of being willing to carry our false attacks on its own people as a way to sway public opinion toward war.
Operation Northwoods.

Because you wittiness one loud unintelligent individual with that opinion doesnt dismiss the possibility of or counter any of the actual evidence against the 'accepted' 9/11 story.
Pshychologically unstable people get self esteem by believing in fantastic conspiracy theories.  By feeling like a knowledgable person for informing those that are not as intelligent, or feeling like a hero for uncovering a devious plot.  Sad, very sad.
Bush and Company didn't DO 9/11.
But they certainly did fail to prevent it.
interesting the only coverage you give of the ron paul rally is of 9/11 truthers. it's almost like you want to marginalize them as a fringe group. but i have a feeling those members of the ron paul revoloution will be an even more important factor in this election than the disaffected PUMAs the corporate media focused so extensively on during the DNC.
Yes, but Paul and his followers numbered almost as many as were inside the Xcel Center. They are a real force in the GOP.

Has the Republican Party forgotten that the media are, and have been, known as the "fourth estate" ? One of the most precious things separating our republic from many (most?) other countries is a free and unfettered press...not exposing Sarah Palin to the probing questions of  our media commentators ( like Chris Matthews) is an attempt to subvert the free press that is one of the major underpinnings of our democracy. Is this an harbinger of the type of open  government the republican ticket will give  us?
I would still like to believe that the reason there are so many conspiracy theorists for 9/11 is that they would rather believe we planned and executed the thing ourselves rather than be caught asleep at the wheel by a bunch of fanatics.  At least if it was an inside job you could hopefully assume it would not happen again, but the real way we have to think everyday (because Bush tells us to) that it could happen again if we elect a democrat.  Sad
More slanted news from the useless propaganda machine that is MSM. They focus on a few 9/11 truthers and completely leave out any reference to the purpose and thrust of the Campaign for Liberty (in a nutshell, drastically reducing the size, reach, and intrusiveness of the federal government in accordance with the US Constitution).

Only a small percent of RP supporters believe this. I don't. Three planes with terrorists hit our buildings. Stop grouping all of us together.
I used to respect McCain and Huckabee as a former Marine,
and as a Christian.  McCain has become an embarrsment to vets with his inability to make
proper choices and the fact that he is riding his POW status like a wave.  I've got news for
McCain. He's not the only POW that has ever lived. I have dead friends in Iraq that didn't
get to come home and Marry a rich girl. They were either blown
to small pieces and never came home or their bodies are rotting in a grave.
You've had a priviliged life McCain! Stop whining!
And Huckabee.  WWJD? He wouldn't be bashing community service!
As an Englishman, i would urge American's to end politicising  Law, Patriotism, Democracy, and indeed most importantly the Truth, We are all nurtured into a belief system, irellivent of what these maybe, one of these associated with this story, is the belief that our goverment would never hurt or decieve us, this is a system that in iself difficult to break, become just a human being, away from the mainstream paradigm, and over indulgent norm, take an independant view of America, and indeed you will find the truth,  That ends at 911
These people are just as tuned into the facts as those nuts at that other convention in town.  Hey, how about you pundits tell us what you really think, when your on air?  You'd have soooooo much more credibility.
RON PAUL IS CERTIFIABLE.   CALL THE MEN IN WHITE COATS.
His followers are a bunch of lunatics, but I have to say, I really do like Ron Paul.

What the media and Republicans did to him is a shame.

Scripps Howard polls that 36% of the country agrees.  So, maybe investigating instead of mocking is the correct course of action.  People mocked for 10 years about Kennedy conspiracies...now the majority of the country doesn't believe in the lone gunman.

www.infogiant.wordpress.com
i'll only say this: The way the towers fell was not indicative of a building that had something collide with it, but of a controlled demolition.

jet fuel is highly improbable to reach heats required to melt concrete reinforced steel as has been told to the people.  the physics don't match up.

sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction... plotted by our govt, no.  used to their advantage when all of Israel's people were out of the country the day before, maybe...

It would have been too much for the incompetents we have running the government conspire to do much of anything except screw us. The Palin choice is clear definition of just how dumb and disconnected they are!
This article is msnbc propaganda.  each candidate has a few wacko supporters, but ron paul's wacko's are highlighted and obama/mccain's wacko's are ignored.  this is a pathetic attempt to discredit the non-zionist candidate.  the sad thing is, this kind of attack is very effective.  the american electorate is mostly uneducated and semi-literate thanks to the gov't schools (which are designed to keep the commoners stupid).
I will say that it is rather odd that there is no footage of the strike on the pentagon. This is the literal nerve center of the entire United States military and we're to believe there are no security cameras whatsoever in the vicinity? That said, I believe there are valid questions that these people raise, but the problem is that they act like they have the answers as well. I will admit that I don't have the answers to many of the questions they ask, and they should be addressed, but I don't think it's a good idea to automatically assume the worst.
You complain about your boss not doing his job. You notice he's only working to fatten his pockets with big oil payoffs. He fights all the time with the smaller companies instead of the bigger company that has hurt him the most . Your have not received a raise and you may lose your job because the boss is now outsourcing the jobs. You are about to lose your home. The boss has so many houses he can't count them. The company you work for has not turned a profit in years and has low approval ratings. The boss distributes a company wide memo that reads  " I really don't know much about the economy."  The boss threatens to release the pitbull on if you keep WHINING. You have put up with his bullying ways for eight long years. Finally your work contract is ending with your boss. As you think about your family's future you ask yourself  "Should I continue working for this creep or should I CHANGE employers? ".

It's that simple America. It's time for a change and YOU know it.

ANCIENT PROVERB: Don't let your pitbulls run loose with the moose on the White House lawn.
Wow and I thought use of word "punk" was not right on anyone.
I did it! NOT!

I'm voting to Barrack....f all you repubs

My Sport Utility Camel is a gashog...f bush
Conspiracy theories make good movies and books, but reality is more important.  The reality is that Ron Paul was the only conservative candidate to choose from this election cycle, yet other so-called "conservatives" spurned him.  It is sad that media outlets prefer to report sensationalism rather than facts.  Only a small percentage of the 1.2 million that voted for Paul are kooks, yet they are the focus of every story.  Sad, very sad.
Well, the first thing I said the morning of 9/11 was "I wouldn't be surprised if Bush planned this."  After that crazy election I could just see him trying to figure out a way to unify the country under him.  I knew from day one just how evil and bad this man was and nothing would really surprise me.

Of course, now that eight years have passed I know that he is not smart enough to pull something like that off.
How come you rabid LIBERAL MEDIA! right wingers are doing your chant?

msnbc totally ignores Ron Paul's many good points and focuses the whole story on nut cases for Ron Paul.

How come {none of} you rabid LIBERAL MEDIA! right wingers are doing your chant?

msnbc totally ignores Ron Paul's many good points and focuses the whole story on nut cases for Ron Paul.

Great.  So "dozens" of 9-11 truthers are represented as "Ron Paul" supporters in this article which completely ignores the 10,000+ diverse Ron Paul supporters which gathered Monday for the "Rally for the Republic".

Furthermore, as a self-identified Ron Paul supporter with a day job, let me point out to Pat from Boston that re-focusing the search for Osama is something that only Ron Paul expressed concern for amongst the Republican candidates.

Ron Paul continues to be a 'voice of reason' -- even in the Republican party if they'll listen -- in our nation and yet, tragically, I keep seeing stories like this where his rationality is ignored in favor of focusing on the least coherent of fringe supporters.  Certainly, Obama and McCain have 'less coherent, fringe' supporters . . . but we all seem to be willing to look past those since we're more likely to see them balanced with good reporting on what the candidates themselves have to say as well.
The GOP is either Constitutionally illiterate or holds the Constitution of the United States in complete contempt by the way they don't abide by their oath of office.  I am a civil servant (I took the same oath on my first day of work) and I challenge someone to show me where in the Constitution does it give the Executive or Legislative Branch the authority or permission to cut taxes.  Go ahead, I challenge you!!
