Palin hits Obama on Iraq

From NBC/NJ's Matthew E. Berger and NBC's Mark Murray
LEE’S SUMMIT, MO -- Palin said here today that Obama “still can’t acknowledge the coming victory in Iraq.”

“He said he’s for change. But in Iraq, change happened, and that’s a great thing for America, senator,” Palin said at a rally with McCain at The Pavilion at John Knox Village, about 23 miles southeast of Kansas City.

Palin also repeated her line -- which fact-checkers mostly dispute -- that she stopped the infamous Bridge to Nowhere. “I told Congress ‘thanks but no thanks’ for that Bridge to Nowhere. If the state wanted to build a bridge, we’d build it ourselves.”

But as our friends at Politifact put it: "In the fall of 2005, Congress removed the language specifically directing the money to the bridge, but it kept the money in place and left it up to Alaska to decide which transportation projects the state would like to spend it on. By the time Palin pulled the plug on the Gravina bridge project in September 2007, much of the federal funding for the bridge had already been diverted to other transportation projects."

Later today, Palin will take her first solo flight -- without McCain -- but has no solo events scheduled. She is skipping a Chicago fundraiser McCain and is heading straight to Cincinnati, where she will attend events with McCain on Tuesday. Campaign aides said spending the time in Ohio was a better use of her time, but would not detail what she would be doing.

Amazing how much time is spent talking about the "success" of the surge and how little is spent talking about the "success" of the war.  How come Sen McCain never has to defend his choice to invade?  Maybe because everytime anyone in his campaign is questioned by the MSM, they are allowed to get away with saying anything but the actual answer.  Any question about Mystery, Alaska <ahem> I meant Gov Palin, becomes a filibuster on all the negatives for Sen Obama.  Ex.  question:  "Is Gov Palin qualified to be VP?"  answer:  "Sen Obama is not qualified so therefore Gov Palin is".  It's truly breath taking to behold how fast it's spun around.  Has anyone noticed Gov Palin's constant attack's on Sen Obama for his "attacks on her family" even though they are non-existent?  In fact, he spoke out strongly against anyone who would make an issue of her family.  Of course, you could never tell such professional courtesy was extended by watching her mean-spirited denigration of him on Wednesday night.  If you missed it, don't worry, she's giving the same speech every where she goes.  What does that say about their insistence of they are the ones to bring change to Washington when they can't even bring any thing different to their campaign events?  That's not change we can believe in, but it is change we can be deceived with.
I thought the Republicans had already claimed that the surge was the Victory of Iraq?  Now, it's the coming Victory?  Palin, has such an I complex, she must have been sent from above you know Heaven!  While my neighbor is of 10 years is being foreclosed on I hope that Palin can support bailing them out and helped them to keep their home.  The likely hood or reality is Not going to Happen.

See ya!
First off... She needs to stop lying about her not supporting pork barrel projects. Lets see Bridge to Nowhere as well as her tiny insignificant town in Alaska are examples of her deception to the American public.

Second... if she really wants to talk about Iraq... lets look at it this way... sure... McCain may have supported the surge... but... he also supported and still supports the decision to go to war. If I am correct, and everything I have heard leads me to believe that I am... the American public has determined that the war in Iraq was a TERRIBLE decision... and that the blood and treasure that has been taken from us because of that misguided war has now been worth any gains that we currently have made there. So... great... McCain supported the surge... yippie... go tell that to the parents of the soldiers who have lost their lives because of that war.

Finally... should she really be talking about the war that she said was part of "God's Plan." NO!!! This war was not God's plan... it was the plan of Neo-Cons like Chaney, Bush, and Rumsfeld and the fact that she says that is is "God's Plan" is just plain frightening. Next thing you know... she will want to merge the Constitution with the New Testiment. We live in a society where Church and State is separate. She needs to realize that!
My brain hurts from this spin.  Obama has been correct on everything about Iraq, Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan.  We are setting timetables in Iraq, he said we needed to conduct raids in Pakistan, we were doing that last week.  He said we needed more troops in Afgahnistan, due to troop levels violence is up in Afghanistan.  We are negotiating with Iran.

That is judgement and experience.
Sarah, how many times will you repeat the same speech that was written for you (clearly not your own words). This campaign is clearly about winning the war in Iraq for your party, which lets us know that you and John McCain are so out of touch with what's going on with the economy. Irag boost a surplus while we are in a trillon dollar deficit thanks to your party's current administration. I hope you use this time wisely in Ohio with your tutor (foreign policy), because Joe"The Shark"Biden will be waiting for you.
Wow, she'll be allowed to go somewhere by herself.  She must be growing up.

This is pathetic, is she now gualified to go unescorted?
How much longer this woman will be allowed to tell lies as a part of her campaign message?

She sold that plane at $600,000.00 loss
She was for the bridge to nowhere before she was against
She took earmarks of $27M
She called the shopping center she built in Alaska the French word for REDNECK
She cut funding for children with special needs even though her sister and herself both have DS kids, yet she has promised to support funding for children with special needs. Which can we rely on?
She is known for carrying personal grudges to the workplace and is vindictive
She is an extreme right wing pro-life supporter that would insist a woman carry a child even if conceived by rape or incest
She would love to censor books if allowed

These are but a few of the drawbacks to this woman. She should speak on these issues truthfully
And let us know whom she really is and what she plans to do and not whine in that nasal voice of hers and try to distort and steal Obama’s beliefs and policies. I am so sick of seeing her and McCain that whenever either appears on my TV screen I change the channel. They are both despicable.
Why change gears for a story on Iraq to one about the Bridge to Nowhere? Palin was Gov, the bridge didn't get built, and the money was reallocated to other projects. Those are the kind of things that Governors do FR.
Regarding the "Bridge to Nowhere" it seems that Palin has the same straight talk that her running mate, McCain has. The Straight Talk Express is in the ditch, upside down and on fire!

I can't believe the number of people that are buying this line of manure. We already have one Dick Cheney and one Dick is more than enough. Unless we want our great country to go the way of the Roman Empire, we had better vote on the issues and not on the truckload of garbage coming from the McPain camp.

NO MCPAIN, NO PALIN!
"but would not detail what she would be doing."
um... Hiding from the media?

How can sit there and pretend to know ANYTHING about Iraq?

Does she even know the difference between Sunni and Shia? That the Iraqi military still can't go into areas occupied by the Kurds? What's her definition of 'the coming victory'?

For real insight into Iraq, watch Joe Biden own Tom Brokaw on this past Sunday's Meet the Press. I don't know that there's a man in the Senate that knows more about Iraq than Joe Biden.

I can already see the debate:

Palin: We will have victory in Iraq.
Biden: How would you define victory?

Palin: Um... well... I.. would say the um political reconcilliation we're seeing now. The point is the surge worked.

Biden: What's changed up the Kurds? You still cannot, under the Iraqi constitution, send an Iraqi army up there. You still cannot fly an Iraqi flag up there unless you get permission. Tell me what's happened in Anbar province. There are no Shia in Anbar province. It is de facto exactly what I said (a confederacy). That's what's working. Everything that's working in Iraq has been the bottom up approach, not a strong central government imposing. And if you were to now follow up--if John McCain as president, would follow up like we will as president and say, "OK, how do you get the rest of the neighborhood in the deal?" How do you get, how do you get Iran and Syria to stop supporting the--specifically, the Shia? And every--you know, this talk about how this has been such a great success, look where we are now in the Middle East. You now have a Shia-dominated government close to Iran. What's Maliki do? When Ahmadinejad comes, he kisses him on both cheek and seeks permission. So give me a break about how this is such a great political success.

Palin: What's the Kurds?

Chuck why are you so caught up in the Palinamania? what about what Biden say os Mckain?

Chuck don't be bias you are better than that!
And this from a woman who said she didn't know
anything about the Iraq war?? Except it was
what God wanted, along with their new pipelines.
Why is anyone paying attention or listening to
this hocky mom??
Why would anyone even consider voting for Mccain
when he put the survival of our country at risk
with his vp pick?
Wake up voters!!
Oh gosh, now the GOP have trained her to play the Surge game. Obama/Biden needs to come at her hard, forget the "sexism" propaganda. Don't be nice to her, let her have it. It's time to play and beat her at her own games.

I recommend they hit her with everything they have and don't let up. She can dish it out but can't recieve it? Oh please, gimme a break! Play time is over.
she is studying for her first interview.  She has already made her first gaffe stating Fannie Mae and Freddie has gotten to big for tax payers......hint hint, they were until Sunday private companies

And this is who we want the heart beat away from the Presidency?  Are we tired of being the joke of nations?
It's so easy being tough when no one wants to hit a girl with glasses....I'd like to see Campbell Brown interview Palin.  I'm sure Palin will be spending her time in Ohio getting her story straight.
I dont understand what is wrong with Americans, first of all they pay no attention to whats going on around them and then listen to the corporate press tell them who to vote for. 1. if the sunni in Iraq were not being paid with my tax dollars the anbar province wouldnt be at all peaceful, and they havent been intergrated into the Iraq military yet either. 2.
if Al Sadar hadnt taken his madi army off the streets
of Bagdad before the surge, we would not have that relative calm to brag on. We do have the best and finest in our military but Iraq is not a military fight, it is a political fight., I did hear our intelligence is much better now  (thank God). To NBC
Tom Brokaw is not the man for Meet the Press. Looking
for someone who can at least act unbiased.
MSNBC time to start vetting the republicians veep nominey. This woman is as disgusting as McCain. I
cant see a place for another politician who expects
the God I know to bless any wars or bless any group of
people who doesnt care about the least of us. Shame
on all of you who are trying to shove Sarah Palin down
our throats without knowing anything about her.

Obama/Biden

Oh god... she's coming here?   Maybe her and John McSame can explain why she got $27 million for her little town of 7000, $300+ Million for that bridge that will serve a town of 8000, $300+ million for another project for for a small town, but we can't get money to replace a 45 year old bridge going over the Ohio River that serves I-71/I-75.

The bridge has no emergency lanes anymore, as they were removed years ago to increase traffic flow, is exceeding capacity by 30,000+ vehicles a day, is one of the busiest trucking lanes in the country, has been rated as functionally deficient, and has been categorized as "the most dangerous stretch of highway in the country".

The amount of money she spent on two towns of 8000, could have replaced this bridge used by 100,000+ DAILY.  Because of no emergency lanes, the way the lanes and turn offs are set up, a single wreck can back up traffic for hours and many miles.  And this happens nearly every day.
I am so tired of hearing the Republicans disparage Obama has the Messiah or The One.

So, if you think Obama is the Messiah, wouldn't that make McCain the Anti-Christ?

thought so.

oh wait -- so sorry, the above statement requires LOGIC so I guess none of the Republicans will be able to figure that out.

(See, I can be sarcastic too -- just like your running dog lackey Palin.  Isn't it attractive???)
Just like my friend Joe Biden said today, Senator McCain what is "Victory in Iraq"? So what the surge worked, who the heck cares, all I want to know is what are you planning to do after the Surge. It's over!!! Now what? I hope the republicans do win so all the "whiners" can reap what they sow!
as Obama said earlier today, this is a lie. Palin was for the bridge to no where and asked for earmarks to pay for it. when stevens was unable to receive federal funds for the bridge, she cancelled the bridge and took the money. she did not stop the bridge because she was aganist it. she did not have the funds to build it. second, someone from the republican party needs to define victory in iraq. third, where is the article on palin gaffe. the economist have been pounding on this and saying she is unqualified to be vp if she does not understand the basic principles of the economy.
It is strange that Palin has never been in Iraq, but she seems to think that there is victory in site.  As a vetern of Viet Nam, VICTORY will only be noted when our boys are safely at home and the Iraqi government and troops are handling their own situation.  If there is victory, why is our government still spending billions of dollars for the Iraqi War?  Why are our troops still being Killed? Palin says what McCain's people want her to say.  She has no experience regarding foreign issues.
I'll tell you what she'll be doing...lying.
Great...she's continuing to say what she's told to say..  GET EDUCATED....I do not care if you are a man or a woman.  She's drawing particular because she's a woman with so litte over-all experience, yet such a "loud" voice.  I'm tired of "town criers"; fear, fear, fear, oh, oh, is we....that is GARBAGE.

That's not change, it is the same old, it is just that she's a new "crier".
I know what she is doing in Ohio - studying her script for the next speech.

Please, please, what exactly Sarah Palin knows about the situation in Iraq?  Besides the McCain speaking points that is.  All I have heard from McCain and/or Palin is attacks on Obama.  Where are their responses to the issues?  Iraq is one of them but what about the  ECONOMY, HEALTHCARE, EDUCATION, etc.

Iraq is not a success.  Maybe the surge helped but now the Iraqis have about 80 billion in the bank; while our economy is going down the tubes.  Our soldiers are still there in force.  What happened to the Iraqi army taking over?

Enough already.  I am sick and tired of the same old attack ads with no substantial answers to the issues.  I am tired of being deemed non-patriotic if I don't vote McCain/Palin.  I am tired of "for 5 1/2 years I was in the Hanoi Hilton".

My uncle was in Vietnam as well - 4 tours - do I want him as President?  I love him dearly but hell no.

Either get with the issues or get out of the way!
Hopefully she will be studying what Fannie and Freddie are (were).  Two people who know nothing about the economy on the same ticket.  Wonderful.
'which fact-checkers mostly dispute'...

criminy.  palin's a liar.  why are you so afraid of saying that.  instead, as is all too typical of a cowardly press corps, you hedge and diminish her assault on the truth with your weasley wording.  do you ever consider how you contribute to the dumbing down of the american electorate?

On Iraq and Afghanistan John McCain fought against going in with too few troops, but Bush did it anyway.

In Iraq John McCain fought against De-Bathification but Bush did it anyway.

In Iraq John McCain argued against disbanding the Iraqi Army, but Bush did it anyway.

These three factors directly led the the chaos in Iraq ever since. Had John McCain been President we probably would have won the war and been home years ago. Unfortunately George W Bush was and he was too stupid to listen to the superior judgement of John McCain.

In Iraq, McCain fought for the Surge - and George W Bush finally listened. The sound JUDGEMENT of John McCain has snatched VICTORY from the jaws of defeat. Defeat Obama counseled, nay demanded, that we conceed to get our troops home a year sooner. Obama advocated retreat and defeat when it was popular to do so. John McCain stood up and fought for victory in war and WON.

John McCain fought against the United States ever condoning torture, but Bush did it anyway.

John McCain fought against the Bush Cheney tax cuts, but Bush did it anyway. Today, as our economy has softened McCain does not want to raise taxes because NO economist will tell you to ever raise taxes in a down economy. John McCain was right on taxes then and he is right now.

John McCain fought against the Bush Cheney Energy Bill. The one written by ENRON with Cheney behind closed doors that gave BILLIONS in tax credits to the big oil companies, (you know, the one Obama voted FOR even though he now mocks that bill as an example of what is wrong in Washington - the bill HE VOTED FOR).

John defied his party and recognized Global Warming as a serious threat as well as America's responsibility to be a leader in the world when facing such problems. George Bush is too stupid to recognize the science behind these findings and fights John McCain on this issue to this day.

John McCain is a fiscal conservative who opposes earmarks - all of them - and has fought against the irresponsible spending spree of Democrats and Republicans alike led by George W Bush that is destroying our future.

John McCain fought chronyism in Washington and fought against his own party in the aftermath of Katrina. He heaped scathing criticism on George W Bush for the incompetency shown by FEMA. Thank god George Bush listened as evidenced by the vastly superior government reaction to Gustov.

John McCain fought his entire party to co-author and pass campaign finance reform. (NOTE - the only bi-partisan effort Obama has ever been a part of was LEAD by John McCain).

John McCain was for Stem Cell Research, but Bush fought against it.

John McCain fought against a Constitutional Amendment prohibiting gay marriage, but Bush fought for it.

This goes back 25 years when John McCain was against sending 300 marines into Beirut without any real mission and sufficient support - he fought Ronald Reagan but Reagan did it anyway. Unfortunately because the President ignored John McCain, hundreds of Marines died and that was the first time America shied away from a fight with Terrorists.

Again and again, year after year John McCain has shown the wisdom, judgement, and courage to fight for the right thing, challenging his party leaders, (most notably George W Bush) when they were screwing up. John McCain is no more 4 more years of George W Bush than I am, except on the few things George Bush managed to get right.

And before you go touting that 95% voting with Bush record - you should do your homework and check Obama's voting record with Bush. It's way more than half of the time. The reason? Most of the things they pass are unanimous votes on bills that have no controversy. Things like naming a post office, honoring some fallen hero, etc., are the stuff of most of the bills that they pass and they all vote together. We just see the controversial issues - like the ones listed above and again and again on those, the controversial issues where real judgement was needed John McCain has been right and George W Bush has been wrong
i really truly don't understand how this woman can be allowed to flat out lie to the public. it is scary that we have to rely on the public to go out there and educate themselves (like i did) on what she is really about.

i encourage chuck, mark, and domenico to please check out my site (i am no webmaster or blogger - just your average everyday 30-year-old female citizen who wants the truth to be known about ms. palin).
Now Obama isn't even sure of his tax policy. He says if the country is in a recession, then he won't increase taxes on the so-called rich. So what Barry is admitting is that increasing taxes hurts the economy. On abortion, Barry is embarrassed at his answer at Saddleback, so now he's trying to back track out of the 'above my pay grade' argument. Them man is incompetent, and the polls are starting to reflect that fact that voters are cathing on to this fraud.
