First thoughts: A tie ballgame

*** A tie ballgame: Major news organizations released three new national polls yesterday, and they all signaled the same thing: After the party conventions and VP picks, this presidential race is pretty much tied. The Washington Post/ABC poll had Obama up one point among registered voters (47%-46%). A CBS survey had McCain ahead by two (46%-44%). And CNN had the race deadlocked at 48%-48%. Tonight, our NBC/WSJ poll -- generally considered the gold standard of national surveys -- comes out at 6:30 pm ET on Nightly News and MSNBC.com. Will it show a similar result? The bad news for Team Obama is that this tied race is occurring in a pro-Democrat political environment, and skittish Democrats -- who haven’t won the White House since 1996 -- are going to wring their hands over any piece of bad news, which is never good for morale. The good news for them: In 2004, John Kerry found himself behind after the GOP convention by a significant margin, and he had to use three strong debate performances just to pull within striking distance. It doesn’t look like that will be the case for Obama and the Democrats this year.

VIDEO: NBC Political Director Chuck Todd takes a look at the new national polls that show Obama and McCain nearly tied and discusses the Illinois senator's fundraising efforts.

*** What to watch for: The next thing to look for in polling is to see where in the battleground numbers shifted the most. Has Palin put the Republicans back in the game in the agricultural Midwest? Will these soft GOP states like Indiana, North Carolina, Missouri, and Montana start tilting back to the GOP?  What about the soft toss-ups like Florida or Michigan? Will they match the national number or tilt slightly GOP (in Florida's case) and slightly Dem (in Michigan's case?). Of course, the quality of publicly available state polls is not good, which will make judging the battleground even more difficult. Still, to truly know what's in play and not, keep an eye on the candidate schedules.

VIDEO: NBC News investigative correspondent Lisa Myers looks at Palin's record in her home state.

*** Vetting Palin: Yesterday, nearly every news organization debunked the Palin claim that she told Congress “thanks but no thanks for that Bridge to Nowhere” -- a project McCain has railed against constantly on the campaign trail. (Not only did Palin support that bridge during her gubernatorial bid in 2006, but Congress essentially pulled the plug on it before Palin did, and she diverted the money for it to other projects.) Now comes a Washington Post investigative piece reporting that Palin billed state taxpayers “for 312 nights spent in her own home during her first 19 months in office, charging a ‘per diem’ allowance intended to cover meals and incidental expenses while traveling on state business.” The article also notes that husband Todd “has billed the state for expenses and a daily allowance for trips he makes on official business for his wife.” The danger of these back-to-back stories: Palin could get painted as just another politician. Where have we heard this before? Opponents of Obama -- both now and in the primary -- tried to paint him as just another politician. But like Obama, Palin doesn't look like a typical politician, and that could help deflect some of these charges against her. Then again, with just two months to go, many voters still don’t know Palin, and that could make these stories (combined with the Troopergate investigation) a bit more problematic since every new piece of information gets amplified.

*** Mo’ money, mo’ problems? Today’s New York Times has an interesting story about the pressure the Obama campaign is feeling on the money front. The campaign has a BIG budget, and suddenly they realize they need every dollar possible. We likely won’t know how much the Obama camp raised in August until next Saturday (September 20), but the article has a spokesman saying that it was it’s best month; if true, the haul will be more than $55-$56 million. But the pressure is definitely on. Campaign manager David Plouffe told the Times: “We’re confident that we will meet our financial goals, but it’s hard work. We have a long way to go in the next six weeks." Anyone thinking that Obama is having second thoughts about skipping the federal money and drying up indie groups? As everyone learns over time when it comes to campaign finance issues, the public never cares what a candidate does regarding his campaign money as long as it's legal. Because one decides to do something that they claim is more ethical, they rarely get rewarded politically. If anything, they sometimes get penalized.

VIDEO: TODAY's Matt Lauer talks to NBC's Tom Brokaw about how the presidential election is shaping up now that post-convention polls are showing a very tight race.

*** School’s in session: Today, Obama gives a speech on education and launches a new TV ad on the subject that mentions McCain -- but NOT Palin. This is an attempt to change the subject onto a terrain where Obama can claim he's not spewing typical Dem talking points, as well as launch an ad where he's targeting McCain and McCain alone. The ad goes: “John McCain voted to cut education funding. Against accountability standards. He even proposed abolishing the Department of Education. And John McCain’s economic plan gives two hundred billion more to special interests while taking money away from public schools.” Has the Obama campaign concluded that the less they talk about Palin, the less others may talk about her?

*** The Price is Right? Speaking of targeting older white women, we’ve learned from an ad-tracking source that the McCain camp is buying network TV ads -- about $400,000 worth so far -- targeted to morning shows, game shows, and soap operas. There may be no more important group of voters than older white women, and buying daytime network TV might actually be a cheaper and more efficient way to reach these folks, say, in southern Ohio, than it is trying to buy the right syndicated show at the right time in the Cincy TV market. Plus, this is a good way for the McCain camp to see if they can get movement in some other states like Oregon or Washington, where if they had more time, Palin's candidacy might actually help just a tad.

*** Down the ballot: By the way, seven states vote today! There are interesting congressional primaries in New Hampshire and (especially) New York, as well as in Minnesota, where Al Franken today officially becomes the Dem nominee for US Senate.

*** On the trail: McCain and Palin already began their day with a rally in Lebanon, OH and later head to a rally in Lancaster, PA. Obama holds a town hall on education in Lebanon, VA. And Biden is in Missouri, stumping in Columbia and St. Louis.

One of the more ridiculous knocks on Obama is this notion that his only talent is reading speeches from a teleprompter.  Only the profoundly ignorant could really believe this nonsense, but of course most of those who keep repeating it aren’t just ignorant, they’re also Republicans.  This attack comes right out of the Karl Rove playbook, which advocates hitting opponents on their strengths.  And when has the ability to give an inspiring speech been anything but a huge asset in politics?  All candidates employ speechwriters, but Barack remains the primary author of his speeches.  Repeating a lie over and over doesn’t make it true.

In a dangerously complex and rapidly changing world we need to lead with our very best and brightest.  The truth is that John McCain, for all his personal courage, is not the sharpest tool in the shed.  He graduated fifth from the bottom out of his class of 899 students at the Annapolis Naval Academy.  Sarah Palin was by all accounts a thoroughly average student.  Barack Obama distinguished himself academically among the very brightest people in the nation.  He doesn’t need anyone to put words in his mouth.

You would think Republicans everywhere would celebrate Barack’s story.  He fits exactly the American dream they love to talk about; a guy who pulls himself up by his bootstraps and rises to the top strictly on merit.  He didn’t have a daddy who was an admiral or marry a beer heiress with a fortune.  He wasn’t plucked from political obscurity at the last minute from on high and turned into an instant celebrity.

In the course of this campaign Obama has proven himself to be a disciplined and extremely competent manager, an inspiring leader, and a brilliant strategist.  He has consistently been ahead of the curve on foreign policy issues.  These are the skills this country so desperately needs at this moment in our history.  Forget about the guy or gal you would like to have a beer with.  We tried that already and it hasn’t worked out so well.  We have a rare opportunity here to vote for a candidate uniquely suited to the times, thanks to the good people of Iowa.  Don’t be fooled by the chorus of negativity this time around.  The stakes are much too high in this election to settle for mediocrity.
Can somebody/anybody provide a rationale explanation for the 20-point swing amongst white women in the past week according to the ABC/Wash Post poll?   Everyone always likes to say that "we vote on issues."   Swinging that dramatically from one side to the other was based on issues?  Or was it based on identity politics?  If the latter, women everywhere should be ashamed that they've been played so cynically and easily by an old white guy and the team who brought you Bush and Cheney.  Wow.
I have been a big Obama contributor who will not give a single penny more unless and until I see him getting extremely tough and the campaign getting more savvy about winning this thing.  We'd all love it if American elections were decided on ideas.   The past 2 elections have suggested they are not.  I'm not interested in contributing to a quixotic quest.   Americans will not elect a man or woman who is not extremely tough and decisive.  When Obama demonstrates he "gets it,"  I'll send more dough.
The Presidential candidate leading in the polls after both the Democratic and Republican conventions have ended has won the election in 10 of the 12 past elections.  With McCain in the lead that bodes well for him.
I agree with Todd that daily tracking is questionable...I'm waiting for debates and the moment Palin takes on a full Press Conference..not an interview.
What are the odds?
http://twocanpete.blogspot.com/
Palin's lies just keep piling up day after day and they really don't seem to be having the desired effect of caneling out McCain's own lies. But then again maybe Carl Rove thought if he picked a big enough liar for V.P. they would make McCain look honest.
Remember remember..experience teaches us that we don't need to dwell on the past..It's easier to may stuff up as we go along..especially if it makes me feel good to LIE!!!! Does this sound like classic McCain. Are we going to get the new McCain now!
Open Mouth insert experience..for real...
What's next a chicken in every pot...
I'm wondering if this person is tried of running..
but not tried of LIES, False statements and EXPERIENCE!!!   and for the speech on the Housing
Problems...What a Joke...This and no other...no round table discussion with banking leaders, real estate pro's..and most important other leaders in government...Pasture this candidate and let's move forward...
FR:It doesn’t look like that will be the case for Obama and the Democrats this year.

WHY NOT? Are you suggesting that Obama is unable to put forth a good debate perfomance? Against McCain, one of the worst debaters around?

I think you owe Senator Obama an apology!
What's the difference between Sarah Palin and George W. Bush?... lipstick.
I didn't know 10 point leads among likely voters (McCain's current lead) were regarded as a "tie".
The republicans offer nothing and the media keeps selling Palin and McCain to us. APPALLING!

They have no policies and they have an empty skirted "rock star"!  Talk about hypocrisy, the rethugs have no shame.
I'm glad the media is finally vetting Palin about something substantive. After her daughter's pregnancy became the spotlight and Palin began playing the victim card, I was afraid they were going to give her a pass.

I guess we'll see if Charlie Gibson will show any sort of integrity and actually ask her legitimate questions.

http://www.rodneyhopper.com
Stupid is as stupid does.  Sen. Obama stated that Americans aren't stupid.  I think he's wrong because as a nation we've been doing stupid things.  It's why there's no unity on anything.  It's why a dunce like George Bush and his neo-cons could excite the nation into invading Iraq.  It's why a temperamentally unstable old man and his questionable/unquestionable running mate are narrowing the poll margins and could win.  It's why Limbaugh is popular. It's why the U.S. is in rapid decline.
Whatever!!

The polls mean nothing and the Media will hype the drama created by them.

There are no checks and balances with the polls - they are conducted by the Media and presented by the Media.

They mean nothing - and even if there could be a slight truth to the poll numbers, when the debates starts - Barack and Joe will totally sweep them and the American people will see for them selves how out of touch John McCain and Sarah Palin is.

IF the debates are fair that is?  IF the mediators are anything like the CBS mediators were for Barack and Hillary - then it would be a waste of time.

Because then it would be spinned to meet the media's agenda and not the American people.

P.S. - I am convinced that the Republicans have a lot of power in the Media - I would imagine it is stressful being a Journalist - when you have the powers that be –are dictating how you do your job instead of  just allowing you to report the news.

Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA
Obama should advertise against Palin and McCain in the am shows as well. McCain doesn't need to, the msm is doing it for him, with even Tom Brokow defending Palin against her lies on NBC Today show. Where is Tim Russert? He'd be outing her for what she really is, a phony!
NBC:

What is the idea behind cable? More freedom? I would think so.

Keith Olbermann is gaining in popularity because he sees the disastrous direction this country has taken over the last 8 years. That’s the difference between him and so-called other journalists/commentators at NBC/MSNBC. They all seem to only care about access. About their livelihoods. So they repeat talking points over and over. If Keith was a far left wing commentator, he wouldn’t bother inviting Chuck Hagel on to his program, he wouldn’t bother recognizing Richard Lugar's positions. Anti-war republicans.

If Senator Obama is elected president, Keith will hold his feet to the fire just like he does with everyone else. Why can’t you see this?

Keith cares more about the future of America than he does about kissing up to the right wing. Can’t say that about too many people journalists/commentators anymore. It's too bad. This is an important election in case you hadn't noticed.

Boston Globe nailed it: Sarah Palin is a reminder of Spiro Agnew, who went after the anti-war establishment, who gave firey speeches, who in essence did a lot of the attacking for Richard Nixon.
And then he got nailed for his dishonesty.

Soccer moms/silent majority and their crazy positions. Sarah Palin is one of them.

"Palin billed state taxpayers “for 312 nights spent in her own home during her first 19 months in office, charging a ‘per diem’ allowance intended to cover meals and incidental expenses while traveling on state business.” The article also notes that husband Todd “has billed the state for expenses and a daily allowance for trips he makes on official business for his wife.”

Typo watch: Isn't that "Palin BILKED"?
Palin's scandals are piling up; how does she and the campaign handle it? Her appeal is as a reformer - not a pork loving per diem regular pol.

http://www.political-buzz.com
I guess the main problem here is that the GOP is a master of deceit. They are so skillful in influencing the voting patterns of average Americans, and they are good at playing whatever political card they feel will help them. For example, McCain's campaign platform was almost entirely experience; after they saw that their platform isn't working, they stole Obama's change platform to suit themselves. Now it will be itneresting if voters can see through the GOP deceit and remember that Bush also used the same tactics during her campaigns and for most of his presidency.
I think it is essential that voters be exposed to the outrageous practices of both parites, especially the GOP. An education campaign should be the answer to the disinformation and smear campaign of the McCain-Palin ticket. I fear voters will fall easy victims of the GOP's deceit.
"Wal-mart Mom" - What the...?

Mika and gang (sans Joe again) were discussing how her "American story" was capivating people.

Uh, what?

Sen. Obama has a great, "only in America" story, too.  All of a sudden that doesn't count anymore?  I have a 4 year degree in media...I have children...that doesn't make me gravitate to Wasilla WonderWoman.  Who cares?  How stupid are you to vote on THAT and not the issues that MATTER?

Pat - calm down, boy.  Us asking about the Pentecostals is not a bad thing - Obama went through the same thing.  It's not OK to go after the AofG because...why?  They are southern and white?

I weep for my country.  I really do.
"Has the Obama campaign concluded that the less they talk about Palin, the less others may talk about her?"
------------------------------------------------------
How many McCain ads specifically target "Barack Obama and Joe Biden"?  Obama is going after McCain's voting record on education.  Period.  Sarah Palin had nothing to do with John McCain's voting record on education, so why should she be mentioned in this particular instance?

More likely, the media can't let go of this shiny new bauble they have found; and they can't understand why everyone else doesn't think it's AWESOME, too.  Like a new toy at Christmas, however, the novelty will wear off soon enough.
Palin, just another politician?? you think.  She has her church pray for the pipeline that will make her politically popular and Alaskans rich.  She thinks God took us to Iraq.  She thinks abstainance education works.  She thinks creationism should be taught in schools.  It is only when it comes to accepting federal handouts and collecting money from the state to stay in her own house that she lack a regular politician. My friends don't be fooled again by Bush's speechwriters.
No one likes to admit it but this election now is not about issues nor the economy. It has develop in a who looks like me and who I would like to see in the white house. Obama comments are being played out that he don't look like one of the guys on the dollar bill. Men voting for a good looking woman, women voting because now we have a chance for a female. "Where are the issues that matter". Who and what are you voting. And old fart with a beauty queen or a changing man with an experience guy? Your choice but leave "Race" out of it if you can.
jaycee, Ventura, CA (Sent Tuesday, September 09, 2008 9:24 AM)

Amen, you said it well!

It has been 'interesting' watching the depths to which the Repubs are willing to lie and distort.  Very circa 2004.  I think people are paying closer attention.  No way they shangai us again with their empty rhetoric, lies and underhanded tactics.

We have 20 years of recent Republican history from which Bill Clinton cleaned up after Reagan and Bush I.  Now we need a Democrat to clean up after Bush II and Cheney.

Real change is coming - not just McCain/Palin lies and distortions.
Wow.
Amazed American

I agree with you.  Especially in light of the fact, that McCain voted AGAINST equal pay for women and Palin wants to take away women's right to choose!!!  This is sexism at it's worse!!!  And they can't compare the African American vote going for Obama, because African Americans have traditionally voted for the Democratic candidate because of their policies!  Women wake up!!!
The media has not done its job in talking about how the candidates stand on the issues.  They seem to be more fascinated by Sarah Palin's new found celebrity.  Barack Obama and Joe Biden are the only ones talking about the issues.  They talk about the issues and the media asks why they aren't talking about Sarah Palin. Are they afraid of her? THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT THE ISSUES THAT ARE AFFECTING THE LIVES OF AMERICANS!  McCain's campaign manager said that this election was not going to be on the issues.  How is that for insulting the American people?  Sadly, however, so many have fallen for their tactic of parading Sarah Palin around and not asking any questions of her.
Yesterday her response to the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac situation gave everyone an insight into her depth of knowledge about the economy and the housing crisis.
I don't understand what people want.  We are in such a terrible situation right now, both at home and abroad.  This is our opportunity to show the Republicans that they have failed the people of this country.  John McCain and Sarah Palin represent an extension of the past eight years.  There is no difference.  Let's get back to the issues.
I challenge MSNBC to present Sarah Palin to the American people for who she really is!
McCain and Keating had become personal friends following their initial contacts in 1981.[8] Between 1982 and 1987, McCain had received $112,000 in political contributions from Keating and his associates.[14] In addition, McCain's wife Cindy McCain and her father Jim Hensley had invested $359,100 in a Keating shopping center in April 1986, a year before McCain met with the regulators. McCain, his family, and their baby-sitter had made nine trips at Keating's expense, sometimes aboard Keating's jet. Three of the trips were made during vacations to Keating's opulent Bahamas retreat at Cat Cay. McCain did not pay Keating (in the amount of $13,433) for some of the trips until years after they were taken, when he learned that Keating was in trouble over Lincoln.[6][15]
When Obama demonstrates he "gets it,"  I'll send more dough.
CA Voter

So let me see, because you don't think Obama is fighting like the republicans do, you would rather not send money even if that means a republican wins????  Can you really survive another 4 years, because I don't believe this country can!
I can't believe how the media is being duped by the McCain-Palin ticket.  The media is questioning their ticket about anything!!  It's apparent that the issues facing Americans isn't important.  I'm shocked and disappointed.
I have to be honest with you... if America votes in John McCain and Sarah Palin, then American DESERVES what will inevitably happen: the Super-Rich will continue to make more money whilst the middle-class gets crushed; healthcare costs will continue to rise; the War on Terror will continue to be pursued as a political tactic; 9/11 will continue to be used as a political ploy; energy independence will continue to be a laugher while our costs continue to rise; the value of the dollar will continue to decline; and the government will continue to lie to us the way it has under Bush/Cheney.

This isn't about whether or not Barack Obama is a strong candidate. Strong candidates don't always win. And this hindsight-is-20/20 B.S. I keep hearing also needs to stop. Look, the point is, Americans don't look out for their best interests; they look for what they want to hear. They're not interested in making the world better. And that's why America is going to be the loser when America elects these two Republican boneheads.

America, you are on a slow and steady decline. You can make it better or make it worse. Yet maybe I've gotten cynical; I expect Americans to make the wrong decision, just like they do every time.
For any of those so-called democrats who say they'll vote for McCain, you need to know that for gals who have ectopic pregnancies (better known as tubal pregnancies), once Roe v. Wade is overturned the fetus can't be touched as it's a life and the procedure would in essence be killing an unborn.  You want to wait several months to have your situation assessed thru the courts, or even die because your doctor can't touch you?  This is only one example but there are many many rare conditions out there that could be problematic as well.  You need to vote democrat this year, especially since the GOP has no issues except to overturn Roe v. Wade.
I can't believe how the media is being duped by the McCain-Palin ticket.  The media isn't questioning their ticket about anything!! I haven't heard anything from their ticket about the issues. It's apparent that the issues facing Americans isn't important.  I'm shocked and disappointed.
Can or will someone from F.R. staff please tell us what a typical politician looks like?In your artical you write that Obama looks like one but that Palin dosn't!Is it because she is a white woman,or a hockey mom,or a mother of five. Please tell me why Obama looks like a typical politician. This is the kind of misleading infomation that may lead to confusion.Does Obama charge for 312 nights he spent at his own,Gov Palin has.Does he lie about selling The ex Gov's plane on E-Bay?My understanding it was sold to one of her supporters at a greatly reduced price. Can we assume that if Obama had said this and we found out it was not true he would be given a pass?I doubt it!It sure sounds like she is a typical politician to me,she of coarse will not be available to answer any of these questions, why, because the McBombers campaign said so.We can see that the Bombers campaign has a handle on controling what is said and who is going to say it.Why else would MSNBC remove there election nite crew after the repuks made a fuss.Come on, this is getting to be to obvious.
"Well, your poll is wrong." David Ploueffe (sp)

Now there is some winning ways!
*** Vetting Palin: Yesterday, nearly every news organization debunked the Palin claim that she told Congress “thanks but no thanks for that Bridge to Nowhere”
----------------------------------------------------

The most scandalous thing about Palin is that she obviously was NOT vetted at all. The McCain staff didn't know about her "Bridge to Nowhere" lie, even though they're sticking with her story after it's been debunked.

McCain met Palin once before the final interview for the VP position. McCain (or more likely) his handlers choice of Palin was for the crassest political movites imaginable.

That's exactly how McCain (or his handlers) will make decisions about war and peace and about domestic issues: what will benefit them the most politically and to heck with the public interest. The only way that McCain is not like Bush is that he's worse than Bush.
Mccain's new-found novelty has already begun to wear very thin.  Maybe mccain's mob thought the few points gained was worth the gamble.
Nope, wrong again!

Now, mccain is reduced to flat-out, blatant lying about Senator Obama and Senator Biden.

How disgustingly repulsive mccain/palin are together.  She lies and he sneers! Creepy and weird!
Pat, Boston: Keith Olberman is in love with Obama. The only feet at the fire will be them enjoying cocoa together.
"we'll see if Charlie Gibson will show any sort of integrity and actually ask her legitimate questions."

http://www.rodneyhopper.com

Don't hold your breath.  Gibson's track record on these things is weak and poor.  "Legitimate" the questions may be, by loose standards, but substantive, nay.  And it's too much to hope that he will ask follow-up questions when Palin fails to reply pertinently and instead dodges.

I'm resigned to having Gibson tee up for Palin's drive.
Mccain's new-found novelty has already begun to wear very thin.  Maybe mccain's mob thought the few points gained was worth the gamble.
Nope, wrong again!

I think Sen. McCain will be overwhelmed at the debates..........oh, well maybe not. We need to look for that little box on his back like Bush was wearing. I believe that the Karl Rove tactic of being "wired" will be used again.
Unfortunately, the MSM will just let this die on the vine as it did when they should have cried "FOUL" for the fact that Bush was wired. Operatives just figure the "people" can be duped......and WE WERE!!
Keep watching for the hump on Sen. McCain's back, or wait, maybe we will just see his "ear piece which will be called a HEARING AID!!
The polls do not speak for the hard working Americans. Again, McCain-Palin is more of the same and will not win. No one in their right mind will elect the McCain-Palin for another 4 years of Bush politics when this country is already in the dirt. When Palin-McCain is finished with this country we will be below the poverty line. These people are infidels. McCain-Palin can't even stick to the issues with honesty to take care of the American people. Seriously, how can you go to another country making war when this country is falling apart!! Really!!!! Palin has already demonstrated that she can't even tell the truth and trust to hide behind religion. She got 23 million for Alaska by backing one thing and turned against it after she got the money for such a small amount of people living in Alaska. We don't need a president nor vice president like that when it comes to the American people. This is about the people not Palin- McCain's vicious-empty self-gratification attacks. This is not about a white & black issue with Obama he is concerned about all people rich and poor. Who is Palin-McCain for? Themselves as always just like Republicans!!! Obama has my vote and others who are working hard to get people registered to vote for Obama!! Palin-McCain you are not wanted for President and Vice President of this country. Too many times have the Republicans run this nation into the ground!!! We want the real change and that is Barak Obama!! By the way Palin you think just being a woman is winning votes listen to this... Hillary Clinton focused on issues not empty jokes and lies. Palin's record shows that she will vote for something and as soon as she has her vote and gets the money for it she disdains what she was supporting. Palin don't be an air head because  you will go down in history as- "An Air Head" by not addressing the current issues of the American people and actually doing something about it, but wait you can't do that because you are a Republican and Republicans don't care about the people, simply self-gratification!!!
I am somewhat baffled by the polls. I did not see a thing that the republicans did during there convention to see such a pounce.  They all bashed Obama and then McCain came along and started preaching unity.  What a joke.

Palin is not credible, but the news media doesn't care because she is selling.  Keep her in the race until next Christmas, job security.  Palin was misleading about the jet sell on ebay (and didn't tell McCain who flat out lied).  Palin hired a consultant while Mayor and received 27 million in earmarks for this small town. She was for the "bridge to nowhere" until the federal government backed away from the project placing more financial burden on Alaska then she was against it. These are lies or distortions of the truth that need to be stopped. And McCain saids he is the straight talk express, please.  ENOUGH!!

Obama-Biden '08
The media is giving S Palin a free pass which is an injustice to the American people.  The half truths need to be addressed. This is scary stuff.  MSNBC Please do your job.  Thank you!
The "mavrick" is long gone.  McCain has opted out of most of his former reform positions and has become a captive of his party's right wing.  He has also opted out of truth altogether and has joined (with Palin)the Bush/Rove strategy of saying anything to be elected; this consists mostly of lies to discredit his opponent.

Palin IS George Bush.  If you want another four years of that, vote McCain/Palin; you could easily have it.  She does not believe global warming is man-made!  Even Bush has backed away from that.

The only honest candidates are Obama/Biden.  They are also far and away the better candidates.
Uh Oh, Bush is on TV, and his lips are moving.  Must be lying about things in Iraq again!
Corporate media are just following the McCain-Palin freak show for this week.  Next week something else will come out that puts McCain/Palin on the hot seat.  The truth about these clowns lies somewhere between corporate media afraid to report real news, ask real, tough questions and expose truth, and the blogosphere which has no peer review for truth either.  Just keep watching and don't pay attention to daily polls right now.  The October "surprise" is still 6 weeks away!!
If mccain wins this race, it will be because the constant lies he spread where repeated and condoned by the press.
Any journalist who allows these lies of palin/mccain to go by unquestioned should be fired.  Then again, when the economy is completely tanked, they won't have a job anyway, so guess the lies will have a payday one way or the other.
Sorry, I don't believe McCain has won anyone over who might have supported Obama. People don't behave that way. It would be like a Red Sox fan deciding to support the Yankees because a cute new cheerleader joined the Yankees' squad. Red Sox fans don't switch. I think the McCain bounce is Republicans coming home. McCain will get every Republican vote there is, but Obama will get the new voters, plus the unions, and that will put him over the top.
The Corporate media is dead set on keeping this election 'close', and it's appalling that the issues that are covered 24/7 AGAINST Obama/Biden are front and center. . . .and the issues that describe the absolute lies regarding Palin AND McCain, have been set aside, so that the American public remains UNAWARE of the TRUTH !!! The list is growing. . .and if ABC/Gibson have bowed-down to the will of the McCain campaign, that says all we need to know about corporate media types. . .  they have been a total disappointment, and think of the $$$$ these guys make.
. . . on the so-called public airwaves. It will take individual families doing their 'own investigative' reporting, because the days of a sincere effort by  the MSM, appears to be over !!!  But TRUTH has a way of coming to light. . and if you believe in God or any divine being. . . get your sunglasses ready. . .!!
Just Like Us. As I listened to MSMBC this morning I heard over and over again, Palin is just like us. She shops at Wal-Mart and we would like to have a beer with her. Well every one said Bush was just like us and he, too, won the "who we want to have a beer with" debate. So Palin is just like us: lets see.
1. She shops at Wal-Mart (many of us middle and lower class people don't. Wal-Mart is one of the least supportive companies of their workers. Not just like us.
2. She and her husband have, to some degree, participated in secession meetings. Not just like us.
3. Her record of revenge against those who don't agree or behave as she wishes are similar to McCains history of the same. She may be just like McCain...but Not Just Like Us.
4, She believes that we are the Army of God and that the Jews are at odds with God because they are not saved. Not just like us...and the beat goes on. In all fairness I must admit that maybe her "us" is different from my "us". then, again, us versus them is the basis for the gridlock in our country. Us versus them is the poison some depend on the divide and conquer. But this idea comes with a twist. As long as their is us and them we will continue to conquer and defeat both us and them
Palin is not just like my us...is she really like yours?
