Jews for Jesus head defends speech

From NBC's Aram Roston
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The executive director of Jews For Jesus -- a group that tries to convert Jews to Christianity -- said in an interview with NBC News that when he spoke at Sarah Palin's congregation Aug. 17, he did not mean to imply that God was punishing Israel for not believing in Christ.

"What we see in Israel, the conflict that has spilled out throughout the Middle East, really which is all about Jerusalem, is an ongoing reflection of the fact that there is judgment," David Brickner told an audience at Wasilla Baptist Church that included Palin. He added that when his son visited Jerusalem, “He was there to witness some of that judgment, some of that conflict, when a Palestinian from East Jerusalem took a bulldozer and went plowing through a score of cars, killing numbers of people. Judgment -- you can't miss it."

The blogosphere and others have jumped on the issue because Jews For Jesus has sometimes been criticized by mainstream Jewish political leaders, some of whom consider it offensive and anti-Semitic.

But Brickner defended the comments and said critics are wrong when they claim he was implying that terror is a result of Jews not accepting Jesus.

”That's not what I was saying,” he said. “That's not what I believe. The violence is evidence that sin has marred our human condition and because of sin and non belief, God's judgment rests on all humanity. And that's why God had to send Jesus, the Messiah to deal with the problem of the sin. And actually he became sin, and God judged him.… “I believe that violence is the natural outcome of the human condition, that sin has blinded the whole world to the truth of God in Jesus Christ.”

The McCain campaign acknowledged Palin was in attendance when Brickner spoke, but stressed Palin does not support Brickner's message.

“This was a guest at the church who Governor Palin did not know would be speaking,” said McCain-Palin spokesman Taylor Griffin. “Gov. Palin does not share the views he expressed, and she and her family would not have been sitting in the pews of this church for the last seven years if his remarks were even remotely typical.”

Additionally, Brickner said he had not met Palin, who during the Republican National Convention spoke with the influential pro-Israel lobby, The American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

But Brickner told NBC News that Palin's pastor is a strong supporter of his mission.

“Larry Kroon is a supporter and friend of Jews for Jesus,” he said, “and a personal friend of mine.”

America, which do you prefer to be passed - Karl Rove’s torch or JFK’s torch?

It appears that people who live in other parts of the country do not like people in the northeast. (Or so we’ve been told). They have been brainwashed into believing we are sinners, we are rich, we are TOO educated and we look down on everyone else.

I hope this election shows that none of this true. We are a progressive bunch for the most part. We are a large country and we are always searching for ways to be a united country. For all.

It is not always easy when the GOP is constantly telling middle America that “we” are unpatriotic because we don’t like war. That “we” are unkind to middle America because we want fairness for all Americans - all races, all religions.

Please understand. We send our kids to war. We go to church. We stress education. We stress hard work. We help out when tornadoes & hurricanes devastate our cities. We give to charities.  We love sports. We are sometimes rude and arrogant because somewhere along the way materialism & competition took the place of knowing our neighbors & co-workers. This started during the Reagan years.

And now it is very expensive living here. But it’s where our roots are, so we stay put.

We love our country. We were brought up in the shadow of the American Revolution and we hold dear everything that was fought for  so that we may be a country of our own, with our own values, our own laws, our own freedoms.

Getting a good education does not make us “elitists”. It just makes us more aware of what we can contribute to society so that we can ensure a better and brighter future for not only our children and their children, but for our country as well.

The GOP doesn’t understand any of this. That is why we are called “elitist”. It seems to me that it is we in the northeast who are looked down upon by the rest of the country.

The media for the most part live inside the beltway, away from every day hard working Americans. They do not tell the complete story of the manipulation that is going on with Karl Rove and Co. John McCain is now carrying that torch. Except for Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow, the rest of the media don’t see it, they don’t recognize it. They’re inside the bubble in DC. The presidential election will most likely have no effect on their lives. They are paid very well.

We up here prefer to see JFK’s torch passed along. You should as well. We all should.

Karl Rove & his gang want a cultural war. For themselves. For their own personal gain. Don’t let them succeed. They will once again desert you when this election is over. The GOP always does. They can’t govern. They can only smear and lie.

And once again they will blame the “elitists” for all their wrongdoing.
Correction: All Jewish denominations have condemned the JfJ as offensive and anti-Semitic.  Just wanted to clear that up.
But she didn't walk out did she?  Where's Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan?  Why aren't they screaming because she didn't walk out????  She let her CHILDREN hear this@!!!!  And yet her Husband belongs to a separatist group that she herself has spoken at, and we don't hear a thing from the media?????
Give me a freakin break!!!!

Lord help this Country - we have lost our way.

Our days of the world's Super Power and leader has ended.

Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA
please continue to cover all these wack-job religio-freaks.  The best way to chase the rats is to shine the light on them.
This guy knows nothing about the people of Israel..
It's good to see our brothers in the Holy Land restoring our faith..
I'm forever in their debt and forever in their life...
OK, so where's the MSM and their pastoral outrage now!?!?!?

STOP THE DOUBLE STANDARDS!
All the hate that these idiots spewed at Barack Obama is now coming back to bite them.  There is such a thing as Karma.
How many times are you going to show Sarah Palin giving her stump speech today?  I can not believe you are doing this to the American people. You are not being fair.  You guys are throwing this elections to the Republicans again.  You should be ashamed!
When will the media start asking about Palin's church's practice of speaking in tongues?
Well I suppose the press will just take the McCain Campaign's word that the views expressed while she sat there listening to it does not reflect Palin's beliefs.

They just well might . . . because McCain said so.

I seem to remember a few months back when the Obama campaign said the SAME THING about a speech given when  HE WASN'T THERE.  And the campaign's assurances that Obama did not share the views of Wright . . . WAS NOT ENOUGH!!!

Chuck, Andrea and the rest of the MSM:  Doesn't She have a PASTOR & CHURCH PROBLEM??

I expect, in the interest of fairness, wall to wall coverage with the McCain campaign peppered with questions about Palin's church every single campaign stop they make for the next month . . .!

But I'm not holding my breath; you practically IGNORED John McCain and his HAGEE et Al Pastor entourage, whom he ACTIVELY SOUGHT endorsements from, who made CRAZY, OFFENSIVE, STATEMENTS that left Wright in the dust just prior and AFTER they endorsed McCain!  McCain to this day has NOT apologized to the citizens of New Orleans or the Catholic church for their rampages!

But I expect wall to wall coverage Chuck.  You guys are fair . . . right?

All the same I think I keep my head above water so I breathe!  I'll drown in the sea of DOUBLE STANDARDS!!
Well, he really cleared that technicality up.  He's certainly not a quack now.
OH Lord, she's on again. She should lose for that voice alone! SHe's such a fake, her accent is getting stronger. There she goes with her bridge to nowhere line....oh goodness, she's smacking hard and John looks REALLY uncomfortable.

Did you read about that Alaskan National Guard General who just flip flopped 180 on Palin on Friday and got a promotion from her on Monday? She's a real reformer all right! They may act like that in Alaska but in the lower 48 we prefer to live by the law of the land.
Well I suppose the press will just take the McCain Campaign's word that the views expressed while she sat there listening to it does not reflect Palin's beliefs.

Obama chastized for not walking out of the Rev. Wright sermons.

Palin defended for staying put when JFJ guy said his antisemetic stuff.

Ok, I get it now - republicans can do no wrong, democrats can only do wrong.  I forgot we live in a Fox News World!  Thanks!
Liberal media, don't even go here.  Palin's church is evangelical and there is no greater friend to Israel today than the Christian evangelical church.  Palin is a friend of Israel...end of story.  If you want to find those who most threaten Isreal...just look at who most supports the United Nations whose policies have often been anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian.  Democrats, much more than Republicans, are big UN supporters, even bordering on putting the UN's interests before the USA's interests.
Just wait until Mccain appoints Lieberman Sec of State and our foreign policy is totally suborned to the needs of the jewish religious state israel.
How about her church's sponsorship of programs trying to convert gays into straights through prayer? Sorry, but getting this gay on his knees isn't going to make me straight! Try something else...as a matter of fact, dont' bother, it doesn't work.
SHUT UP,YOU'RE AN IDIOT. YO, MSN, you are going to cover this inane story in the same way you covered Rev. Wright story? I'm looking forward to ole Pat's ramble on this. P.S.  Note to Palin: We  here on the other side are pitbulls in lipstick and STILETTOS---- SO BRING IT.
The more I hear about this woman the more I wonder about what John Sydney McCain III was thinking when he picked her. Or DID he pick her? We all know he wanted Lieberman but the powers that be in the Republican party thrust her down his throat and now she's being thrust upon us as well. This was a gamble to try and siphon off some disaffected women simply because they have estrogen like Hillary. I was a Hillary supporter but this woman has nothing in common with what Hillary stood when she ran or stands for now. I will not be swayed by the pit bull in a skirt.
Oh here it comes.....

Come on Obama supporters -- show us the fools you really are.  Let's hear you compare a "guest speaker" at Palin's church, to Obama's long-time PASTOR (who, he states in his book) was his spirtual advisor.  Let's hear you compare one speech on a Sunday, to sitting in the pew for 20 YEARS!!!
As a Jewish person praying that Obama wins, all I can say is "oy."
How a Jewish person could be a supporter of this evangelical-led republican party is beyond me...with guys like this one, they aren't even hiding thier intention for the Jewish people.

time to wake up, guys....the evangelicals are trying their hardest to keep their enemies (Jews) closest.

McCain said at his nomination speech that he fell in love with this country when he was in captivity.  Yet, Press is not all over him like Michelle that McCain only loved country when he got in prison!  God help us.
...a group that tries to convert Jews to Christianity...

that's all i need to read. this has NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO place in politics. do not vote for palin. this is ridiculous!!
Hannity where are you at?? She didn't walk out!! Our we going to get the loops of her pastor reciting off the wall remarks? What about the leader of the AIP that her husband belonged to? DO we get to see the clips on your shopw of him saying he hates America? Help us Hannity!! We need you!!!!!
If this had come out before the Republican Convention, would Joe Lieberman have been so enthusiastic in endorsing th McCain/Palin ticket?
“I believe that violence is the natural outcome of the human condition, that sin has blinded the whole world to the truth of God in Jesus Christ.”

Palin believes that getting right with God requires the infliction of violence in the Middle East.

I think her view of God is even worse than his.
Soldiers are still dying, people can't pay their bills and the MSM is focused on this?  America will get exactly the government she deserves.
Oh and one more thing:  She is STILL a member of that church, isn't she.  Why didn't she just leave?  Didn't she find that . . . offensive?  Eh, Andrea, Chuck, Pat  & Joe S?  I want an answer!

Forget it!

Obviously she didn't!  She hasn't come out to address it personally yet!
Why did she sit in the pews for 7 years knowing that her pastor supports the views of David Brickner and  Jews for Jesus? As we learned from the months of reporting on Obama's former pastor and church that if you stay then you must agree with everything the pastor supports or visitors to the church! Oh wait, it's different because Palin's a Republicon, right?? What a bunch of HYPOCRITES!
1. Convert Jews to Christianity.
2. Convert Gays to straight.
3. Convert Independents to the radical right.
Anyone else seeing a trend here?
Let's keep Palin out of this for a moment...

God's judgement?

Was 9/11 God's judgement?

How about Katrina?

How about Oklahoma City?

How about Columbine?

Memo to David Brickner:  STFU!
The only difference between George W Bush and Palin is?

LIPSTICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it's ok....it's ok......media, conservatives, FOX
it's all justified. The anti-america and anti-semetic only matter if it's related to Obama (over&over&over)
http://twocanpete.blogspot.com/
Hey dummie, quit blaming God! If it's God's judgement then why are we bothering to defend ourselves? Shouldn't we just lay down and take it if the moslem extremist are only doing the work of the Lord? I'm sure they'll  be happy to know that they have found something they can agree witht the infidels on.
Ok then Mr.Jew 4 Jesus.....Put the Iraq war in that context.  What does that say about Bush, McCain & Palin?!?!?!?!

Religious zealots!
Mmm hmm and where is Hannity at? I dont hear him calling Palin out.. yet he would call Obama out on his religious views and not leaving the church in the drop of a hat.. what a sorry a*ss
