Palin's 'Bridge to Nowhere' line returns

From NBC/NJ's Matthew E. Berger
CARSON CITY, Nev. -- In her first solo campaign rally outside of Alaska, Gov. Sarah Palin drew an enthusiastic crowd at the Pony Express Pavilion Saturday and returned to a familiar refrain about the “Bridge to Nowhere.”

Palin has come under fire in recent days for misleadingly saying she told Congress “thanks but no thanks,” refusing an earmark for a bridge to a sparsely inhabited island in her home state. Independent groups and media fact-checkers have said Palin advocated for the federal earmark before opposing it, only ended after Congress had essentially killed it, and kept the $223 million for the appropriation after the project was killed.

Palin had cut the refrain from her speech during her three-day visit to Alaska. But she came back to it today, citing it as an example of earmark reform she and McCain would push for in the White House.

“I told Congress thanks but no thanks to that Bridge to Nowhere -- that if our state wanted to build that bridge, we would build it ourselves," she said.

Palin did not deviate much from the speech she had given the last two weeks on the road with McCain. She reiterated a line that she put the governor’s luxury jet on eBay. While accurate, the jet wasn’t sold on eBay.

Nevada Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki said on stage that 10,000 people were in the crowd, but parks officials said the pavilion held only 3,500 people. The audience consisted of significantly more women than McCain-Palin joint rallies over the last two weeks, and Palin addressed her historic candidacy head on.

“The women of America aren’t finished yet, this November, with your help, we’re gonna shatter one glass ceiling once and for all,” she said.

Palin also acknowledged the presence of Chuck Yeager, the first pilot to break the sound barrier.

"If you tell a lie often enough, it becomes the truth".

Bush has been trying that for 8 years. Isn't it time for a change?
Ok, I admit, I liked her in the beginning, but this is getting ridiculous. She has one speech and a lot of scandals around her now. The McCain camp needs to quit lying!

This independent is undecided and leaning heavily towards Obama now.
It is absolutely petrifying to think that McCain and Palin could possible be president and VP.  And more disturbing that as VP she could be president one day!

God help us.

By the way, it is now being reported that the GOP campaign has issued an edict that all attendence figures are now to be grossly inflated for propaganda. There McCain and Palin go, lying their asses off at every conceivable step along the way ...
Truthteller:

SHE KEPT THE MONEY AND DIDN'T BUILD THE BRIDGE. ALL MEDIA IS CALLING THIS A LIE. YOUR PRINCESS NEEDS HER TIARA REMOVED!
Each time I choose to watch MSNBC news clips on my computer, I have to sit through a short commercial. It's very often the same commercial - though I won't mention which one, as it would give further free advertising to that product. Watching the same commercial over and over again is extremely dull and makes me much less inclined to purchase the product.

I've just watched the latest footage of Sarah Palin talking in Nevada. Watching the same commercial over and over again is extremely dull and makes me much less inclined to purchase the product.

We will enthusiastically push a woman through that glass ceiling very soon.
But it will be a woman with integrity, one who respects the American people enough to be honest with them. It will be a woman who is worthy of the office.

Sara Palin that woman is not you.

The last thing America needs right now is another phony cheerleader who eagerly goes out of their way to deceive the American people.
Wake up America!  Fooled once, shame on them.  Fooled twice, shame on you.  Fooled thrice?  Then we're real idiots or Rove is involved.

We elected someone we "wanted to have a beer with" last time.  Look how that turned out! Not again!
The emperor has no clothes!!!!
Did Palin oppose the Bridge to Nowhere? Yes or No? It appears the the final answer (i.e., the answer after first supporting it before being a governor and opposing it after being a governor) is Yes. For example, if I was not a Christian last year and I am a Christian this year, can I say I am a Christian? Shouldn't the answer be Yes?
She is going out on her own as of this weekend I hope someone in the audience ask her when she insists on inflating the facts.

********************************************************  She is going out without McCain (he needs to rest up on the weekends, this is just a part time gig for him).

But she will be regurgitating her memorized stump speech.  Nobody in the audience and no reporters will be allowed to ask her anything.
I guess if you say it often enough..... She is going to make herself a parody and she will have no one but herself to blame. Shameful!
Sarah Palin:  A one trick pony in a cheap trick circus!
Hmmm!  McCain and Palin are lying.  Should we be surprised?

The people running this campaign are the same people who lied and made up facts so they could justify a war with Iraq and we all know how that has worked out.

Expect 4 more years of the same crap if they win in November.
LOL. This is a joke!!!
Dear Truthteller,

True, there is no bridge.  She opposed it only when support was pulled for it from DC.  But she kept the money and spent it elsewhere, anyway!
Without the media, we're helpless in the face of these lies--this has got to stop! Kudos to MSNBC for being the most vigilant on this story. Every show on every network should be running this but it's virtually ignored elsewhere. Tim Russert is looking down on you guys and giving you a thumbs up.
Gov.Palin is on that lies to no where bridge and McCain is riding the straight B-S Express!
it's very comforting to see so many women here showing their disgust.
i'm curious as to where that 20% increase in mccain's women's voters are coming from???? may be the same inflated numbers at their rallys.
Whoa, when will the insanity end? I wish I had the time and money to follow them around and hold up cue cards for each of their lies!!!!

I read one of my favorite columnists yesterday... he's no Obama fan, but boy, did he ever make the case for NOT voting for McCain.

For every 10,000 People she lies to in a crowd 40,000,000 other people will be watching at home. Just a fact.

Obama/Biden 08
Keep rubbing the liberals noses in it Sarah. They'll never learn, but at least we'll have some fun getting them dirtied up.
We need another Edward R. Morrow...Media - Speak the Truth to Power...let's get some rallies going - rallies for the truth...can we get people - us - the citizens to demand truth-telling in this election?

I've written the McCain Campaign and told them they are liars.  No response.  I've written Obama and he thanked me.  The Republicans live in a bubble of truthiness and have lied about a war and now they want to lie about an election.  Will they get by with it again?
Biden says Hillary was a better VP choice then he was. Palin says that Obama will regret not picking Hillary as the VP choice. Reid calls McCain "President McCain". You're losing another one Democrats.
Folks, read the Sunday NY Times Article on Palin, she is a liar, vindictive and a fraud.  Her administration went to great lengths to get all office emails onto personal accounts so they would not have to be disclosed under public disclosure laws.  Sound familiar to Bush and Rove.  She appointed her high school classmates to positions for which they were not qualified.  She conducted political business on the public's dime.  Be scared to this woman.
BushMcCain&Co. lied us into war with Iraq.  Will the media be complacent while we are lied to again or will the media stand up and keep the public informed? I hope this is only the harbinger of more truth to come; but the media has left me far too cynical then to trust they will indeed blow through all the McCain campaign lies.  The stakes are high and the nation's future at risk.  Lying McCain/Palin would be an extension of Bush's folley.
Will the "media" -- NBC & MSNBC included -- please take their heads out of their behinds and call the Republican machine what it is: a bunch of hypocritical liars! I can't believe you're going to continue to mislead the American public, like you did in 2000 & 2004, by not asking the tough questions about Bush. Why are you guys so scared of the republicans? Get a backbone, call the McCain-Palin ticket out!
Please do your job and report the fact that mccain and his cronies hae decided to disregard the truth...
that's $100 mr. olbermann's gotta shell out to a charity! i heart keith...
Thinking about Palin's lies and manipulations of her administration in Ak. what comes to mind is compared to her, Barack, Joe, Hilary are saints. The American public will soon "GET IT" about her and McBush.
Clearly the Republicans believe that if you repeat the same blatant lie long enough, and to enough people, it will somehow become true.  It must be a unique GOP trait to ignore the facts when they get in the way of their beliefs (or ambitions).

I agree, the bloom is starting to wear off of this rose.  Much as it did with Barack Obama when the media decided to stop letting him getting away with sermons in lieu of substance.  The difference is that Obama had 18 months to straighten up his game (which he did), while Ukon Barbie here has less than 2.  The people are starting to see that all she does is read the speech that the McCain camp has written for her over and over again.  Clearly she does not have an original though in her head.  Why people believe she is ready to be VP is beyond any intelligent thinking person.

Obama/Biden '08!
CNN is doing a better job than MSNBC on calling Palin out on her lies.   WHAT IS UP WITH THAT?

You guys need to start playing HARDBALL!  Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann and Rachell Maddow know what I mean.  Start publishing what is really going on here!

EXPOSE THE LIES!!!  PLEASE!!!
