Well, that didn't take long. A day after one of the most substantive debates in quite some time -- over the economic mess on Wall Street -- the presidential campaign has devolved back to the trivial.

Earlier this morning, the Republican National Committee pounced on Biden talking about how Obama's middle-class tax cuts can benefit Americans. "Our tax plan would take that tax cut of another $130 billion that John [McCain] wants to give to people making over $250,000 next year ... and give it to the middle class -- the very people who desperately need it to stay in their homes, to buy food, take care of their gas, to fill up their tank, to buy a toaster, to employ people."

RNC spokesman Alex Conant focused solely on the "toaster" part of Biden's remarks. “John McCain’s economic plan is focused on adding jobs, and the Obama-Biden plan is focused on adding ‘toasters.'"

Next, Democrats seized on McCain economic adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin's response to what McCain did at the Senate Commerce Committee to understand how markets work. "He did this," Douglas Holtz-Eakin told reporters this morning, holding up his BlackBerry. "Telecommunications of the United States is a premier innovation in the past 15 years, comes right through the Commerce committee so you're looking at the miracle John McCain helped create and that's what he did." (Hat tip, Politico's Jonathan Martin.)

And Al Gore invented the internet! Obama spokesman Bill Burton piles on: “If John McCain hadn’t said that ‘the fundamentals of our economy are strong’ on the day of one of our nation’s worst financial crises, the claim that he invented the BlackBerry would have been the most preposterous thing said all week."

Take SNL's advice and grow a pair already. The campaigns will always devolve into the trivial because you all keep covering it without pressing either campaign for harder facts on their economic, foreign, education, or healthcare policies.

Re TAX CUTS:
"...to the very people who desperately need it to stay in their homes, to buy food, take care of their gas, to fill up their tank, to buy a toaster, to employ people."

Joe Biden is a practical, caring, experienced man who know folks like you and me.

The real issue here is regulation or de-regulation.  What did McCain do about that while chair of the Commerce Committee?  In general, Sen. McCain feels government regulation "gets in the way" of people and Sen. Obama feels government regulation is "on the side" of the people.  Hence, John McCain thinks that health care without government regulation will be fine and Barack Obama thinks that health care should be regulated so that people get a fair deal.
Harding, Coolidge, & Hoover, remember them? After yesterday's collapse of Lehman & Merrill Lynch, welcome to another depression brought to you by the Republicans! The only way these idiots Republicans will get it is when it hits their wallets, then they might do the right thing and vote for the best canidate out there, which is Obama.  Forget recession we are in a depression and it will only get worse!
Isn't the BlackBerry Canadian
Come on guys.  We (Me and a few other Americans) are really, really tired of all the crap.  This is serious for many, many, many of us.  Let's focus on who's going to get us back on track.  I am appalled at how the repubs really believe they are the answer.  After these years of repubs running the show, how can anyone believe it will be better.  We better smarten up people.  It doesn't matter what color your skin is, your gender.  Who's going to get us out of this mess. It's so obvious, yet I see denial.  Lets take back our country people!!!

Of course you can finance the economy with $9 an hour jobs and borrowed money from the Chinese! Just ask the McConemist.
How can McCain add jobs if the Bush-McCain economy destroys every business in the country?
I'm actually thrilled with McCain's senior moments lately, along with his obvious demonstration of outright stupidity. America IS watching, and listening, and in spite of the dummies that will vote for these 2 clowns Obama is going to wipe these creatures out. He'll clean up McCain's bleached bones in the debates, and by the time they're over, Palin will be under indictment.

Game nearly over, but we can take comfort in Grandpa John's reassuring words:

"The fundamentals of the economy are strong".

Boy, I sure would sleep well at night if this genius got elected. We would then be officially known as "The World's Stupidest Voting Public".

The only way this dummy gets in is if Obama gets hit by a meteor.
Isn't Blackberry a Canadian company? Is John McCain now helping foreign governments make money? Because he doesn't seem to have done too much for ours.

This must be the latest McCain campaign strategy, to make such bizarre statements that everyone stands dumbfounded as if in an alternate universe. Then while everyone is going, "huh?" immediately change course and loudly proclaim the opposite position. They must hope this will cause such dizziness in the voters that they will check McCain's name when they meant to vote for Obama - this election's homage to the hanging chads.
Earmarks are less than 1 per cent of the total budget. So if you eliminate them forever it's a teardrop in the ocean of debt .. and McCain is basing his "economic" policy on them ? LOL .. yeah go JOHN .. the senate is over there -------------------------------->>
