Palin: You want specifics? Well…

At last night’s town hall meeting in Michigan, NBC/NJ’s Matthew E. Berger reports, Palin offered to be quizzed on foreign policy issues, but did not give her specific qualifications on international affairs. She was asked what “specific skills” she would bring to the White House on international issues. She responded by saying she was prepared and has the confidence to be vice president, but did not enunciate them. “I have that readiness and if you want specifics with specific policy or countries, go ahead, you can ask you can play stump the candidate if you want to,” she said. “But we are ready to serve."

McCain picked up where she left off, reminding the audience that she is commander of the Alaskan National Guard and had been involved in the construction of the natural gas pipeline in Alaska. He also mentioned that her eldest son is being shipped to Iraq, but mistakenly said he was going as part of the Guard. Track Palin enlisted last year in the Army.

Berger adds that Palin spoke several times during the hour-long event, asking to speak at the end of questions McCain answered and handling questions aimed directly at her. She spoke repeatedly of her experiences in Alaska and her plans to promote energy independence. She also criticized President Bush for going overseas to seek increased oil development from Saudi Arabia. “That’s nonsense,” she said, “When we have the domestic supply here in America.”

"Palin, in her second national interview since becoming the Republican vice presidential nominee, said last night that she and running mate John McCain disagree on oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, but that she's 'going to keep working on him."

Once again, Karl Rove called Palin a "political pick" by McCain. “‘Nothing lasts for 60-some-odd days,’ Rove told The Associated Press after appearing at a health care conference. ‘Will she be the center of attention in the remaining 48 days? No, but she came on in a very powerful way and has given a sense of urgency to the McCain campaign that's pretty remarkable.’”

“Rove said Palin was a ‘political pick’ just as Sen. Barack Obama's choice of Delaware Sen. Joseph Biden was, and that she is not the most qualified candidate. Biden, well-versed in foreign policy issues after more than three decades in the Senate, makes up for the Illinois senator's lack of experience in that area. Palin has been governor for less than two years, and was mayor of small-town Wasilla before that. But Rove said he had no qualms about her ability to lead.

Palin's hacked e-mail account could bring another round of anti-media rhetoric from the McCain campaign.

Ugh.  Just when I thought I would get some specifics from her.  I certainly hope someone in the MSM does play 'stump the candidate' with her.

"Palin's hacked e-mail account could bring another round of anti-media rhetoric from the McCain campaign."

Nice throw away line.
are you guys going to discuss this or just ahhh its no big deal.
If it was Obama's e-mail we would be talking like its watergate alover.

Message to Ms. Palin...

THIS...IS...NOT...A...GAME

I am insulted that Ms. Palin thinks that asking readiness questions of her or apparently any other candidate is playing stump the candidate.  Where has she been for other campaign seasons?  Has she not seen other candidates get asked questions?  Do people not ask questions in Alaska?

Horrendous.
the only difference between Palin and Biden

one was chosen by a candidate because he could fill in for President on day one.

one would need three years to actually grasp the issues we are facing...

and was chosen to fool the people...just like the last 8 years.

throw these bums out...

same team same tactics
same cover ups
same appointments
same ethics
same plans
same policies
same garbage
same results

9th year

Palin is one trick pony. They should have asked about the tape where she brags that she was prayed into office by a man that turns out to be a self-proclaimed African witch-hunter. I'v got the link.
A compliment goes to some conservatives who are reporting that Palin is not qualified to be VP or POTUS. They are putting country first instead of McCain's campaign first.  As Karl Rove said, "This (picking Palin) was a political decision, not a governing decision.
Uhhhh, did I miss something?  Was this SNL?  What specifics did she give?  From my view of the video and reading the above...she remains in the "fluff" arena.  Nice rhetoric, no substance.....just keep talkin' kid, just keep talkin'
Specifically, I would like to know what is the deal with Sarah Palin and the rape kit controversy.  Is it true victims of rape in Wasilla were charged for these rape kits while she was mayor?!?  This issue is extremely important in gauging where she stands on womens rights. Can someone get to the bottom of this??
Oh gosh, this lady! What has McCain done to himself and his followers?
Geez rove got something right as he admitted that "Sinner" Sarah was nothing but a political pick meant to fire up the braindead evangelical christian lunatic fringe that hates "Bush Hugger" McCain.

Instead of giving specific answers it's just more of evasive nonsense from the least prepared VP candidate in history.  How about some specifics about Troopergate?  How about releasing those 1,100 incriminating e-mails she's trying to hide because she knows she's guilty of abuse of power?

Only Obama/Biden are intelligent enough to give specific answers to questions because they're honest and don't have criminal activites to hide!

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!
It's like she's acting like it's not fair to ask her these questions!
You know, I was all set, actually, to vote for Obama/Biden until I saw last night's event where Governor Palin told us what specific qualities she has to be VP.

Who needs change when you have "readiness"?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

WTF?  Confidence is all well and good but it doesn't mean you know what you're doing.  And "readiness"?  Jesus Tap-Dancing Christ, what in the blue hell does that mean?

Obama/Biden '08

Fired up...ready to go!

No way!  No how!  No McCain/Palin!

She has NO qualifications...  And neither does McGoo if she is proof of his judgement!!!

She still hasn't said anything meaningful. I'm sure Joe Biden can't wait to play stump the candidate with her.

She has NO qualifications...  And neither does McGoo if she is proof of his judgement!!!

Imagine going into an interview, and being asked, "What specific skills will you bring to us that will benefit the company?" and answering "If you want specifics, go ahead and ask, but I'm ready. That's all you need to know." Do you think you would get the job? NO. You'd be laughed out the door.
That's what I'm doing right now. Laughing. At Sarah Palin and John McCain. And looking for someone who can answer the question with specifics. I'm guessing Joe Biden might give a better answer to the American people than "trust me, I'm ready." Because we deserve it after the past 8 years.

Ahhh...open and transparent government.  Palin is so refreshing....NOT!  If she didn't have something to hide she wouldn't be fighting so hard against Troopergate.
THe ides of this not very intelligent person talking to foreign heads of state at the UN is laughable.  Even KArl Rove says she wasn't the best pick and that it was a political pick.
Palin: Specifics? You want specifics? Well, I have zero international experience although I did travel to the border of Iraq had a look around and decided I really didnt want to go there, but I really, really, really want to be your next VP so vote for me!!!!
Thanks but NO Thanks means, Thanks ($200 million in earmarks) No Thanks (I never said I support the bridge), Thanks (I will cooperate with troopergate) No thanks (Now I am a VP candidate), Thanks (I traveled to Iraq) No thanks ( I never stepped off the plane) Thanks ( I run a goverment on a web based server) No thanks ( Did someone Hack my Yahoo account!) What a dummy! I can see Russia spying on the klondike lipstick pitbull pig now! Thats what I call National security! Support John McCain to get into a senior citizen home!
Palin's response to the specific skills question was comical. She said absolutely zero and to then ask the person to play "stump the candidate" is ludicrous. It was like watching a student that memorized the material for a multiple choice exam but would flunk an essay question because that would require thought and true knowledge.

If it wasn't so scary it would be funny.
Even Rove kind of gets it-

“Rove said Palin was a ‘political pick’ just as Sen. Barack Obama's choice of Delaware Sen. Joseph Biden was, and that she is not the most qualified candidate. Biden, well-versed in foreign policy issues after more than three decades in the Senate, makes up for the Illinois senator's lack of experience in that area. Palin has been governor for less than two years, and was mayor of small-town Wasilla before that. But Rove said he had no qualms about her ability to lead.

As the weeks and months progress - it  unfortunately has become more apparent that anything that stumbles out of McCain's mouth is- less and less and still less believable.

As a conservative Independent - we're forced to either look the other way or take our head out of the sand and face the reality that sadly this man's - ethics, principals and any sense of true representation of what he would do as President has long since been compromised.

I can say as a loyal supporter of McCain in 2000 - this version is very disappointing.   Maverick?  That was a long time ago.  I honestly am to the point that I don't trust what's coming out of his mouth anymore and Palin simply says what they hand feed her.  Simply put - he's lost this fellow Veteran's trust!

If other Independents and Republicans choose to ignore the countless flips- flops, pandering and Not-so-straight talk - you go right ahead.  If this Campaign is even an inclining as to how he would run his Presidency - color us (our family) very unimpressed.  In fact, to a former supporter- he's been somewhat of an embarrassment.  From actual POLICIES or lack thereof- to the constantly saying whatever it takes to appeal to the most voters - to playing Politics with the VP choice - and much more!  Just look at the 'advisors' that each Candidate, has chosen to surround themselves with.  Look at the way they get impute and make a formulated decision.  It has been very telling and speaks volumes to how they would actually Govern.

Probably the best example is his selection of Palin with ONLY soft vetting, will ultimately prove a huge error in judgment.  The GOP can try playing the sexism card to bail them out - but Palin’s various scandals will eventually weigh them down (already starting to).   Mix into the equation the - evangelical extremism, non-separation of church and state and  an obvious lack of comprehension or experience on Foreign policy and you have the makings for a mess.  Then throw in the Senator’s age and health issues and you have a potential disaster both on US soil and abroad. Talk about a risk.

Lord knows Obama would not have been my first or even 3rd choice he has flopped or at least shifted on some issues to the center. I do feel his lack of experience is a risk (although Biden Foreign Policy Chops does help especially in the 'new role' of the VP).

Anytime a new President is elected it's a risk - but it's becoming clearer by the day that John McCain and Sarah Palin represent a FAR bigger risk to this country's economy and National Security.

So you can choose to ignore the lack of real solutions, the lying, the pandering, the political posturing, the poor decision- making, the lack of a cohesive plan for working people and now even it seems like obstruction of justice (Troopergate) - Can  some of you see the forest through the trees?

Hey, It may have taken me 48 year to vote for another Democrat - but this choice has become clearer by the day and while they are certainly no Reagan/Bush.  Senator  Obama and Biden you have earned my lovely wife and my vote! (you already had 3 of 4 of our kids vote).

I would urge anyone, especially fellow Independents to take a real good look at what is offered here- the actual policies, experience, age & ties to lobbyist and special interest groups. Who would really work to bring people together across Party lines?  Who would surround themselves with the best minds and consider different impute before making an important decision?  Who is better fit to restore America’s greatness throughout the world?  Who do you really trust more to put more money in your pocket 4 years from now.  And perhaps most importantly but simply of all- of McCain/Palin or Obama/Biden - who do you  trust?

Luckily, people like us are NOT too old or too stubborn or too programmed and certainly not too racist - to see the better option THIS time around.  Not only for people like us, but mostly for our wonderful children and grandchildren and yours as well.

Thanks for allowing this old dog to be heard. (hey I’m still 10 months younger than McCain)

God Bless the USA!

Berger adds that Palin spoke several times during the hour-long event, asking to speak at the end of questions McCain answered and handling questions aimed directly at her.

Will Daddy hold your hand if you have to sit across from Putin?
Who cares - she's as boring as that former Bush attorney general now.
The Palin excitement is over.
An asked question to Palin to give specifics and all she could say --well ask me lets play stump the candidate is so opaic it is pathetic.  If she was so qualified why is she being held back from being asked questions without a script.  Does the McCain campaign really think all women are that stupid.  I guess his Palin is running on the idea of what my mother said a long time ago-sometimes it pays not to say anything for it is one thing for people to think your stupid it is another to open you mouth and relieve all doubt.Combine-lets get off the Palin continued news and get back to reality of the issue.  Im sick of any excuse for her is okay.
Im sorry she had no answers because she has no experience on foreign policy I watched that town hall meeting and it would be great if she was runing for governor again or mayor, but please she lacked subsance and basically followed McCains lead except when she jumped in one time.

We are talkng about the VP one hearst beat away from the Presidency, how would she handle all the other heads of states if she cant answer a questin at a town meeting.

This election is too important on too many fronta to have an unexperienced person in place that close to the presidency.

Suzanne, western NY voter obama/biden 2008
Whatever happened to just reporting the news? "but did not enunciate them" I think we got that already if you were just REPORTING instead of attempting to commentate!
Rove's admission that Palin is not the "most qualified" is an understatement and very revealing. How is it possible that he can then state "he had no qualms about her ability to lead".  I'm sorry, but I don't want an unqualified VP leading my country anywhere! We all know that politics is a "game" but too much is at stake in this election to have the likes of McCain/Palin running anything, much less the country. They may be nice and folksy and able to connect to blue collar voters but the rest of america wants intelligence, world view and ability to assemble the most learned and experienced cabinet available. We know Palin hired her high school chums to work in her cabinet (no relevant experience required?) and that just wont cut in DC.

Obama '08
Palin is showing a lack of any real knowledge on every issue, you can't stump someone who is a stump, that is redundent.
The bouncy ball goes up and then it goes down, gravity or lack of gravitis.
Either way the numbers are slowly changing except in the mind of rethugs.
Bush will be on this morning to cheerlead us into shopping and spending, sorry George we are all spent.
I have cut my food buying drastically, gas is still expensive, heating oil is expensive, maybe I should vote with my feet (R. Raygun) and move to a warmer clime, Oh yeah air conditioning.
We are being deregulated into oblivion.
Thanks for nothing rethugs, you reap what you sow.
"She doesn't have any foreign policy credentials.  You get a pssport for the first time in your life last year?  I mean, I don't know what you can say.  You can't say anything."

"I think they ought to be just honest about it and stop the nonsense about, 'I look out my window and I see Russia,'"he said.  "That kind of thing is insulting to the American people."

Sen.  Chuck Hagel (R) Nebraska
The real "maverick"!
I would like to  just 1 thing she has done as governer of Alaska to protect Alaska from those pesky russians she knows so much about.  so she wants to play stump the candidate huh well that wont be a long conversation cause she has already proven her lack of knowledge about anything
Bluster will only get you so far.  What does "I have readiness, I have confidence, we are ready to serve" tell us?

Nothing.

Any of us applying for a job would have to list our specific strengths for the job.  Why doesn't Sarah Palin?  It is not enough to say she is "commander of the Guard in Alaska," every governor is commander of the Guard of their state.  So what?

It shows a lack of respect for the American people that those who would be our leaders won't give us the specifics we beg for - or straight, honest answers to most any question we pose.

Is it wise to hire someone who is evasive and dodges basic job interview questions?  Rah-rah enthusiasm and red power suits are not enough.

Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton and no Harry Truman, and the prospect of hiring her as a president-in-waiting scares me to death.
Palin continues to embarrass herself. She is MORE dangerous for the country since she isn't even smart enough to recognize that she is singularly unprepared for National politics.
McCain-Palin...what a very un-funny joke!

Americans, vote with your brain.
She is prepared for?Never meet any Heads of state anywhere!Has been coached and told what to say,(still giving her stump speech),has no clue about the Bush/Mccain Chaney War(said she has not been paying attention, dosn't know what the Vice Prez does and she would have to be brought up to speed.Uh?Of coarse Bomber had to answer questions she was asked.Showing her lack of knowledge on oil reserves,We only have 3% of the worlds oil under us and off shore,10 years away from being on the World market.Even uncle Karl has said she lacks knowledge and she was just a political pick(like a side show)instead of who the bomber wanted,Over the shoulder Joe.This gal has GWB written all over her, with a large dose of Chaney mixed in.8 years of this has destroyed our standing with the world, our ecnomony has tanked. We cannot afford anymore deregulators!
What does she mean, "you want specifics, well then go ahead..."  That WAS the question to begin with.  Yes, the questioner wanted specifics.  Clearly.  This woman is so beyond actual answers and telling the truth it is frightening.  Incidently, does anyone else find it mysterious that emails subject to scrutiny over official business are now going to conveniently be destroyed?  Hmmmmm... I wonder just who it was that "purposely hacked" her email?  Troopergate, Emailgate, Bridgegate, Sunbedgate, Energygate....in short, Palingate.  Thanks but no thanks to that McCain/Palin ticket.
All fluff...and...that's it.  I'm not surprised by her non-answer.  If what I heard last night on Ms. Maddow's show is true: that Palin has stated the real reason for firing that guy was because he wanted money to prosecute child sex offenders and not because he didn't fire the trooper...ie. he was fired by Palin for doing his job and trying to protect women and children... then it is no wonder that the Republicans don't want her to say anything truthful or of substance.  The media needs to keep digging for the truth as the Repulicans won't give it to us in straight talk.
I'm for Obama and that town hall meeting was painful to watch. To see how out of touch she is and how McCain tried to pick up the pieces. McCain really will do anything to get another house to live in?
"Palin's hacked e-mail account could bring another round of anti-media rhetoric from the McCain campaign."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

What a bunch of crap!

Aren't the folks making a stink about this the same ones who fully supported the Patriot Act invading the personal e-mails of private citizens all across the country?

Crocodile tears, say I!

Besides, doesn't it disturb anyone that Governor Palin may have, in fact, conducted government business from her personal e-mail?
“Rove said Palin was a ‘political pick’ just as Sen. Barack Obama's choice of Delaware Sen. Joseph Biden was, and that she is not the most qualified candidate"
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

But Biden IS qualified - he was running for Pres himself!

As for Palin's "foreign policy" - she has NONE. Every time they are asked about it, McCain veers off into "energy", which means NOTHING (especially considering she doesn't even know what percentage AK contributes to the nations energy supply).
I will be voting democratic this year , and have been since 2004. I have never said anything about Gov.
Palin but positive things. This is a very pretty woman who is bright and feisty. She has no real experience in foriegn policy, no experience in the economy, she is nice but she was indeed a political pick, but not for policy for personality. Joe Biden also a political pick, for his experience in foriegn policy and for his experience in the economy and his real knowledge of the American working class citizen. The very citizens who have been left out of the political
equation for almost 8 years. Heaven help the working class if we elect the same republicans who have been running this administration for GWB. McCain hasnt a clue, he will leave this country in the same incompetant hands it is in right now.  I am a white lady from S.C. and I dont care what color Sen. Obamas
skin is. We need the most intelligent people in this country to get us back on track, they make fun of 300
advisors,I dont get more , get every idea from every
walk of life.

No Way
No How
No McCain

marty

What?  She did not!  This woman is a disaster!
Too bad many of Palins' statements have been fact checked by non partisian groups and news outlets, and found to be false, outright lies, and total distortions.  The fact she continues to repeat them after they are exposed for the lies they truly are, should scare the sh!++ out of your pants shoudl you be considering voting for McCain/Palin!
Duh.  It's John McCain who picked her.  I've been a republican since 1967 but am voting for Sen. Obama.  Palin?  No, she doesn't impress me as being qualified to be vice president, but Sen. McCain will do nothing that I want...correct that - Need in life. I need social security to thrive, not be put into a game of risk.  I need health care to be more affordable and I need to feel better about this country.  In that I want to see our forces out of Iraq.  Thanks to President Bush I'm through with republican party policies.  I consider my vote of trust good for four years only Sen. Obama.
Right Sarah....you are going to keep working on him....good work honey!

Oh, and when you do convince Johnny to be a good boy and do as you want what will you have achieved?  What will be achieved except more revenue for Alaska?

What is the point of increasing production capacity by a few percent when other nations can simply reduce their production to maintain demand and support their targeted price?

You can't attain the goal of energy independence by drilling for oil.  To be independent one must make use of alternate means of energy to replace the use of oil as fuel.....and then work on coal.  These are exactly the industries we need to develop in the 21st century.

Coal is ancient....oil is yesterday, CNG and Nuclear are today, wind and solar are tomorrow.  It is time we start building with the tools we have today to provide the world with the energy and the technologies we will need for tomorrow.

Obama understands this and McCain does not.  The choice is clear.
Face it saying your ready and Have McHoover take over she said nothing she could not answer a simple question with a good answer.
"Her Moose Majesty" cannot be specific because when the brains were handed out, she and Bush were last in line.  Wonder when poor old befuddled John's temper is going to kick in about his VP pick upstaging him???  He can't get an audience without her and her shine is wearing pretty thin so maybe he will kick her back to Alaska.  Just saying...

Question to MSNBC?  Have you bowed down low enough  yet to suit her Majesty and get her for a grilling?  Not enough deference, yet??  For shame !  :-)
Why is Rove constantly talking?  I just think he's up to something.  I'm not sure what it is.  I don't think Biden was a political pick.  I think he was picked because of the comfort level and what he brings to help the country.  I think Palin was only to energize the base.  If I was the person who asked that question, I would have tried a little harder to get a real answer.
It is not that Palin is unwilling to offer specifics to complex questions but, rather, that she can't.  She is, by and large, uneducated (I am mindful of her poor collegiate experiences and the miserable standing of Alaska's school system -- about which she has done virtually nothing).  Moreover, McCain fundamentally does not want her to talk about anything substantive; he wants her to be Caribou Barbie and, in the end, it makes them both appear to be shallow and small.  The most egregious dimension of her involvement in national politics is the emerging evidence that she is unethical, mean-spirited, and vindictive.  And here I thought we were about done with Dick Cheney.
What worriews me is that she is so confident. A good manager knows what they do not know and seeks out help from those that are experts. Her confidence in this case is a deficit. It reminds me of the super popular clique in high school. Once they got to the work force their looks helped but eventually were not enough without education and skills.
