Viva Zapatero!

Posted: Thursday, September 18, 2008 12:20 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Mark Murray and Lauren Appelbaum
This has generated a lot of blogosphere chatter... In an interview with Radio Caracol Miami, McCain appeared to either not know who the leader of Spain is, confused him with a Latin American dictator, or just didn't hear the question (although the interviewer did say: "I'm talking about the president of Spain"). Note: Zapatero is prime minister of Spain, not president.

McCain adviser Randy Scheunemann told the Washington Post that McCain knew who the interviewer was talking about. "The questioner asked several times about Senator McCain's willingness to meet Zapatero (and id'd him in the question so there is no doubt Senator McCain knew exactly to whom the question referred). Sen. McCain refused to commit to a White House meeting with President Zapatero in this interview."

Below is McCain's conversation with the interviewer....

Q: Senator, finally, let's talk about Spain. If you are elected president, would you be willing to invite President Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero to the White House to meet with you?

McCain: I would be willing to meet with those leaders who are friends and want to work with us in a cooperative fashion. And by the way, President Calderon of Mexico is fighting a very, very tough fight against the drug cartels. I am glad we are now working in cooperation with the Mexican government on the Merida plan. And I intend to move forward with relations and invite as many of them as I can, of those leaders to the White House.

Q: Would that invitation be extended to the Zapatero government, to the president himself?

McCain: I don't, I, you know, honestly, I have to look at relations, and the situations, and the priorities but I can assure you I will establish closer relations with our friends, and I will stand up to those who want to do harm to the United States of America. I know how to do both.

Q: So you have to wait and see if he is willing to meet with you, will you be able to do it in the White House?

McCain: Well, again, I don't. All I can tell you is that I have a clear record of working with leaders in the hemisphere that are friends with us and standing up to those who are not. And that's judged on the basis of the importance of our relationship with Latin America and the entire region.

Q: Okay, what about you? I'm talking about the President of Spain.

McCain: What about me what?

Q: Okay, are you willing to meet with him if you are elected president?

McCain: I am willing to meet with any leader who is dedicated to the same principles and philosophy that we are for human rights, democracy, and freedom. And I will stand up to those that do not.

Wow, this guy is already getting senile.
Is it just me??? Or has anyone else noticed that sidekick Cindy looks like she's self medicating again...

Saw her the other night standing next to McCreepy & Parakeet Palin and she looked absolutely ZONKED out of her mind!

Just look at her eyes... can't say I blame her though - if I had to sleep with the Crypt Keeper every night - I would probably need something myself!!

Obama/Biden  This is OUR Time!!
Can someone get the Senator a map...maybe a Frommer's or a Rough Guide.

If this were funny...it'd be really funny.
Two questions: Why does John McCain always use a women to further his career. Who is watching Palin's children, whenever Isee her, her husband is always standing behind her, that means neither one of them are parenting. Just wondering.
OMG!!! Someone put this man in the nursing home where he belongs and have Palin take care of him for the next eight years.
GO OBAMA GO!!!!!!!!!
***************************************
If he makes it that long....
We've barely survived 8 years of a complete idiot in the White House.  Now we'll go from just plain stupid to potential Alzheimer's patient...and his sidekick, the Moose Hunter.  Great.  But then as long as we keep waving those flags and putting those yellow ribbons on our cars, everything will be just fine.  Why would we need a President with knowledge about the rest of the world when clearly America has the best and brightest.
If character is a qualification to be President, Chuck Hagel is the only Republican qualified for the job.

This seems to highlight the continued inability of McCain to keep facts straight on international relations.  There was coverage on Maddow's show last night about how McCain hasn't had an unscripted press conference or event in quite some time.  Based on this interview and other statements it shows that McCain doesn't possess the ability to keep facts in his head and recall information that a President would need to.

If I were McCain, I would be very fearful of the upcoming debates.
"Well, again, I don't. All I can tell you is that I have a clear record of working with leaders in the hemisphere that are friends with us and standing up to those who are not. And that's judged on the basis of the importance of our relationship with Latin America and the entire region."

The man thinks that Spain is in our hemisphere?  That it is in Latin America? No wonder he graduated at the bottom of his class!!  Most people learn this in middle school.  And foreign relations is supposed to be his strength?!?!
My parents are McCain's age. If they held such erratic positions as McCain does, I would be taking them to the doctor for an early dementia screening.
Everybody knows Spain doesn't have oil (except for olive oil) so why would McCain care who their president is?

Duh.

Obama/Biden '08
Maybe McCain was confusing him with Emiliano Zapata?
Just how old is he (McCain) anyway?
This is what the republicans are afraid will happen to Palin if they turn her loose, gaffe, after gaffe.  How embarassing.  This is just too much winging it.
Independent? Who? CBS, ABC? NBC, CNN? NY Times, LA Times, Washington Post? They're not 'independent'. They're the core media wing of the Democratic party.

Factcheck.org and BBC for two, dimwit.
What a Brilliant,up to date candidate.

NOT MUCH!!  Keep talking John, you are making it so much easier for Obama/Biden

Republicans for Obama
Kansas For Obama
It sounds a lot like a continuation of Pres. Bush dislike and snubbing of "socialist" Zapatero.

Some change.
Echoing blogosphere insinuations is how MSM will lose all status and credibility this election season.

Already losing readership, your attempts to throw blogs a bone in the hopes of getting one in turn is desperation, at best.

Those same idiots made wild claims about Palin's son being the son of the now pregnant daughter, amongst other chicanery.

I now only watch two shows Morning Joe and David Gregory. Glad you are enjoying growing your lefty viewership. As for me, I'm disgusted.
Why don't he just start using Regan's old line: "Well, I don't recall." McBush is too dag gone old and and out of touch. Now the election is starting to turn back to issues and not him and his stupid TV ads.
"Russia is now lessening oil to Czecheslovakia", "what worries me is the Pakistan/Iraq border" "its clear that Iran is supporting the Sunni insurregents" ,and now he doesn't know the leader of a NATO member

WTF, when will the MSM start declaring him senile/ What more do they need?
