Former Clinton staffers jump to McCain

Posted: Sunday, September 21, 2008 6:36 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Cherelle Kantey
Former Hillary Clinton campaign staffers charged Obama with being too inexperienced for the presidency, shifting their support to McCain, on a conference call sponsored by the McCain campaign Friday afternoon.

"Obama really doesn't have the experience,” said Miguel Lausell, senior national political advisor to Hillary Clinton. “We don't know what he's going to be doing. We don't really know where he's coming from, and that's the big difference."

Luchy Secaira, former Sen. Hillary Clinton Delegate-at-Large, said that
stance on women’s issues is all talk and no action. Secaira said that Obama’s rhetoric on the Equal Pay Act is not backed up with hiring practices in his Senate office.

"We need to look no further than Sen. Obama's own senate office, where it's been documented that he pays women less on his staff than males on his staff,” said Secaira. “He talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk."

“The Hispanic community has nothing to fear, because they know John McCain,” Secaira added. “He has fought against his own party on behalf of the Hispanic community and was an integral part in trying to bring forth comprehensive immigration reform.”

Lausell also expressed disappointment that Obama overlooked Clinton as a choice for a vice-presidential running mate, saying this decision was a deal breaker for Hispanic voters who wanted to see her on the ticket.

“He didn't even contemplate Hillary Clinton for vice president,” Lausell said. “I don't really think he's committed to women's future and in terms of Hispanics, … he could have picked Bill Richardson who was fully qualified for the job. But you know, he forgot about him also. So you know, I don't think he takes Hispanics seriously.”

While it's true that Clinton had widespread support from the Hispanic community during the primaries, Obama has held substantial leads over McCain with Hispanics -- greater than even what Kerry had over Bush in 2004 or Gore had in 2000.

Nonetheless, Lausell added that he thought Obama’s candidacy would never measure up to Clinton's because of her proven track record on the issues that affect Hispanic-Americans.

"I think that when you talk about Obama and Hillary Clinton, Hillary Clinton is the sky and Obama is the sea. And the sea will never reach the sky, you know,” Lausell said. “I'm sure he means well, but his word doesn't match his action. "

The former campaign operatives also said they were outraged with Obama’s latest Spanish-language ad, “Dos Caras,” which linked McCain to Rush Limbaugh’s offensive remarks about the Hispanic community. Secaira said this type of ad contrasts Obama’s   image of being an agent of change through unification.

"I don't see anything new about put-down politics …This [ad] proves that he's not a uniter; he's a divider. Sen. Obama, along with the Democratic leadership, has divided the party. And this is his tactic. This is his M.O,” said Secaira. “Otro pero con ese hueso."

Translation: “to another dog with that bone."

Of course, political observers will likely see the former Clintons staffers objections as sour grapes -- they're upset because Clinton lost, and they're out of jobs though they're candidate was that close.

So, Barack. How's that unity with the Clintons going? Looked solid at the convention. So, whats happened?
Those racist Clinton staffers can go anywhere they want, we don't need them! See'ya losers!!

Go Obama

Enough is enough!

Change! Hope!

Obama/08
Yawn....Obama will be our next President.
Excuse me, do these idiots expect us to believe that Obama pays women in his office with identical titles and responsibilities different depending on gender? Does anyone believe that Michelle would stand for that? Or is it that Obama's highest paid staffers happen to be male, because they happen to hold positions such as chief of staff?
What a bunch of sore losers.  Get over it.  Let this be a lesson learned for all you voters, when a woman runs and loses, supporters will not fold up their tent and support the party's candidate, they will rather support 4 more years of the most disastrous policies and a VP pick with even less experience and extreme views.  Sour grapes.

Obama/Biden '08

Each to their own option. They will besorry of their decision.Sometime we cut out our nose off to spite our
face.Maybe they will change their mind.
How can these people be trusted??? They only go where the highest bidder will pay their price. So much for loyalty and working for a better American under democratic rule. Maybe McCain is giving them one of his 13 cars. Yeah, he is the person that understands that I have to work two jobs just to pay the bills and never see my kids....

Obama/Biden 08'
I can't believe this is news.  A couple of disgruntled staff who need to feel important again are giving a press conference?  I wonder what kind of jobs McCain promised them.  I think it just confirms what a disfunctional staff Clinton had (and why she lost).  McCain and Clinton COULD NOT BE more different on substantive policy issues (with little difference between Obama and Clinton), so these staffers obvsiously were never that committed to her policy objectives in the first place.

This is really RICH!  hahaha

They don't know where Obama is going on the issues...?

Whereas on the other hand we have Mccain changing his positions every 4 hours.  He has need in Washington about 30 years, but had PROVEN he should not be given the reigns to run the country.
He LIES at the drop of a hat, but they'd rather support that?

I say Good Riddens"!

I would hope they'd get what they are asking for - IF THE REST OF US DIDN'T HAVE TO SUFFER TOO!!!

"We need to look no further than Sen. Obama's own senate office, where it's been documented that he pays women less on his staff than males on his staff,” said Secaira. “He talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk."

Finally people are waking up and seeing Senator Obama as a fraud.  He is all talk and no action!

wonk....wonk... sour grapes. So, what about those Yankees?
Wow the both of you couldn't possibly be any more retarted!
GOOD - SMART people.  I'm sure the obama gang will say "we don't need those people to win" - like all the Hillary supporters, or the Bitter PA people, or KY, W.VA hicks, or old, young, Catholic, Jews, Women -
guess obama will just win without all those types.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
So happy to see both Bill & Hillary doing to bare minimum - "for the good of the party".  The Clintons owe obama & the DNC - ZERO!IF obama had used good judgment - and wanted to win - he would of picked Hillary for his VP - but - he did not and now he will lose!
Miguel Lausell and Luchy Secaira don't know what to make of a descent campaign......they think you have to tell lies to run a campaign or the were bought off by Mccain's campaign.
traitors. Well, they'll never work in this town again!
Let me get this straight, they supported Hillary, who represents nearly all of Obama's positions, but decide to back McCain because of ...what??  SPITE.  Now that's being patriotic.  Here's thier vote - thier contribution to the future of this country and to the future generations of our children, and they decide to vote for just about all the things that Hillary stands against.  I wonder if any of those hypocrites have any children.
Hillary supports Obama. If you supported Hillary, and you trust her judgment, you'll vote for Obama. If McCain wins this, he's going to move in a direction completely opposite what Hillary would've done. Voting for McCain over Obama when you once supported Hillary is madness, cutting off your nose to spite your face. This speaks to a deep bitterness in some of Hillary's former supporters that really need to be addressed by them before they cast their vote. If this is some sort of personal vendetta or revenge against Obama for winning the primaries, I'd have to say the anger is completely misplaced.
Good for you folks for standing up and saying your piece. It's tiring to hear that people assume because you were for Hillary that you'd automatically vote for Obama. Words do matter and so do actions.  I'm not comfortable with Obama.
now we know way clinton lost she had a bunch of undercover repubplicans working in her camp where is james carville with his branding iron when you need him.
Miguel and Luchi,

You people are a low priority right now. We'll allow you to sit at our table, but you don't always get to dictate what's on the menu.
Why would people switch to a candidate that is the polar opposite of what their original candidate offered?

People like them are ruining our country w/ their hipocrisy.
""I don't see anything new about put-down politics …"

Interesting coming from the Clinton campaign staff
This is a story about two unemployed political staffers who are willing to overlook the opposition party's political platform -- which is unequivocally the polar opposite of the life's work and push for universal healthcare, espoused by the former candidate whom they clearly adore -- in order to side with the opposition party's candidate against the wishes of their own candidate.

Hillary has asked us to support Barack in order to continue her important work.

Hillary deserves better than this.  She worked far too hard over the years and throughout the campaign to have these kinds of people try to sabotage her work toward universal healthcare, in particular.  With friends like this...
like i've been saying right from the beginning, the clintons could care less about supporting obama.  with the reports that both hillary and bill mouthing off behind the scenes about obama NOT winning is exactly this, throw in her supporters and staffers behind mccain so she can run again in 2012.  by then, she will nudge, cajole and twist obama's arms to support her.

if the rest of democrats don't see the clintons' true colors, shame on them and a bigger shame on the americans wanting mccain/palin ticket to win.  by then, i would have already gone back to europe and sadly watching america go down in misery.
It is sad that staffers who believed in Clinton's political philospophies will now work for a man who has a 360 degree opposite view of them. It is obvious they don't care about this country.Do they really want a man who has been against womam's rights from the beginning. A Pro Lifer, who says woman just have to work harder to get ahead. A man who cares less about everyone getting affordable healthcare for families, and favors deregulating health care. All they really care about are themselves, and their idolitry for Hillary. They are truly sore losers with no conscienc and a vendetta. had Hillary won they would now be castigating McCain. They atrue hypocrites.
What they are aaying is that they were not supporting Hillary for her positions on issues but rather because she is Hillary. A comparison of McCain stands and those of Obama indicate a close alliance. Not those of Obama and Clinton.

They seem to buy into the naustrum that with expirience comes judgment and judgement cannot exist without expirience. Amazing. If they applied the same logic to Bill Clinton, he would not have had their support either.
All this shows is those folks should not have been working for Clinton or any progressive candidate. More power to them I say. Thos who against all logic and common sense will vote for McCain deserve what they get if he is elected. And thye also deserve what they get when Obama IS elected.
Can any of these folks not see what has happened in the Republican administrations. It took Clinton to clean up Bush 41. Now it will take Obama to clean up Bush 43.  Our country is in a mess and on the brink of nationalizing our banking system.  A vote for McCain is a vote for a reincarnated Herbert Hoover.

You can be bitter about losing Hillary but don't cut your nose off to spite your face.  Women's rights, immigration policy, the middle class, all face huge losses with McCain/Palin.

Please think when you vote and think about a brilliant man like Barack Obama and an exceptional politician in Joe Biden before you jump to the other side.
Yep sounds to me like some sore losers..maybe they would be wise to follow Hillary's class act and endorse the democratic candidate of the party instead of acting like spoiled kids that didnt get what they wanted.  McCain can have them.  These are not the kind of people the dems want with them anyway.
who cares about this fake democrats
I feel badly for her. I ate sour grapes once... it brought tears to my eyes.
so much for party unity
I SAY GOODBYE TO THEM THEN. IF THEY'RE LEAVING, THEN THEY NEVER WERE DEMOCRAT SUPPORTERS TO BEGIN WITH. SEE WHAT JOHN MCCAIN AND SARAH PALIN WILL DO FOR OUR COMMUNITY. NOTHING. SHE PROBABY HAS NO IDEA WHO HISPANICS ARE....
He did not consider Hilary for VP because she does NOT want it!!!! She wants to be the president and in order to do that she need to either wait until McCain screws up the US even more and she will run again in 4 years, or if Obama wins she can try again in 8 years. Why is it so hard for everyone to see. The VP spot is not the way for her to become President. Shame on those of you who would compromise McCain getting elected so Hilary can try 4 years sooner. How could you do that to this country and our future!!!!! OBAMA 08'
i have looked into this pay claim and i notice some 3 grade math used here.  They compile all the males salary and women's salary and come up with a pay difference.  This ignores the fact that there are more women in higer position in McCain's camp. That skews the numbers...so
Well, and maybe they haven't been paid yet.
You are really digging into the bottom of the
bucket today for so called news.
Who cares??
so.....They would rather have McSame instead?  They would rather leave everything to up to dipstick and lipstick?  The U.S. is in big trouble please lets have rational thinking.  This smells of racism to me.
Why such a big writeup about such insignificant people?
Two people does not a story make...you guys are reaching...we know you want to keep this race close. It's to your advantage. But to make this a First Read when you consistently ignore the inconsistencies, gaffs, lies and outright strangeness of the McCain campaign this past week is an outrage. Voters rely on the media and  you have let us down. Fortunately most of us are smart enough to see it.
Be sure to ignore the real economic problems and issues this country faces and concentrate on the whiners. Be sure to cruise right past the most important story about bailouts tomorrow as it unfolds.
No need to tune in to Morning Joe in hopes of getting any real news. And Hurricane Ike...just not a story worthy of MSNBC, as people continue to suffer and FEMA fails again.
I find myself watching a whole lot more CNN...more balance,  constant fact checks and a lot less tabloid sensation. And  your execs sit around and wonder why your ratings suck..except for Olberman and Maddow.
You people at MSNBC are soooo one sided it is unreal. You write a good informative article then end it with the statement that political observers will say it is sour grapes. Oh really? Which political observers? All of them? Come on, please go back to being journalists and not front people for the Obama campaign. You are better than this!
How about finding out if these two paid consultants are now being paid or promised jobs by the McCain Campaign.  Follow the money.
"Waa-waa-waa" if I don't get my way, I'm gonna go for the other guy just to hurt you! These people are just more whiners and dividers.  Go vote for the ol' fart and see how well you do economically!
"Waa-waa-waa" if I don't get my way, I'm gonna go for the other guy just to hurt you! These people are just more whiners and dividers.  Go vote for the ol' fart and see how well you do economically!
SOMEBODY - please tell me what expereince John McCain has.  Please.
He's never been President.  He's never led any orgnanization.  He's been in Congress for 26 years, but is that experience?
I'm looking at:
Dergulation - it has killed the markets and helped create the housing mortgage mess. Know who championed that - Phil Gramm, economics advisor to McCain, when he was in the Senate back in the 90's. McCain himself has said he's "a dergulator."  Until this week when it was not a good idea.
Economy - "fundamentals of our economy are strong." McCain has said this numerous times and interestingly enough, not long after, the financial markets seem to falter.  He's told us he's not strong there, and his actions have proven that.
War - He's even putting Spain on notice this week that they may not be our friends.  Huh?
Taxes - Trickle down didn't work under Reagan, who left office with a $175 million deficit.  It was larger than that but he at least raised taxes to abate the situation.  My tax bracket will be hurt a little, but I know I'll make it up when those in the lowest tax brackets actually get those tax cuts and spend them.  Trust me, they're not going to go sock those cuts away in a savings bond or the stock market.

So, I'm open.  Please show me what experience he brings that is so overwhelming reltaive to Obama.  Because the way I see it
One team has two post graduate degrees while the other team has only bacehlor degrees. One on the team was 5 from being dead last in the class, while the other wne to 5 schools over 6 years to get a journalism degree.  And that's going to help how when dealing with Putin or Constitutional issues?
One is not under investigation and hasn't been caught up in a federal investigation while the other team has one member currently under investigation and the other infamously tied to a horrible Savings and Loan bailout that costs taxpayers millions.
So, without giving the names, which one do you want running the country?
"Of course, political observers will likely see the former Clintons staffers objections as sour grapes -- they're upset because Clinton lost, and they're out of jobs though they're candidate was that close."

Sour grapes is exactly what it is! Why else would they be comparing Obama to Hillary with stupid commments such as Hillary is the sky and Obama is the sea and how much better she would than he and how disappointed they are that Hillary was not even comtemplated as a running mate.

They also want to accuse him of negative ads, never mind that most of the time, he is only responding to McCain and that her former boss did a pretty good job with the negative ads herself.

This is not totally unexpected, I would think, especially considering that it is former staffers.

They have the nerve to sing McCain's praises when wel all know exactly what he is about, but they want to be concerned about claiming not to know Obama?

McCain has been flip flopping all campaing and especially in the last few weeks, so how does that make them feel comfortable.

It is pretty obvious to anyone who wants to see that this is nothing but political BS and resentment because their girl is sitting at home while the other woman is getting all the attention and with her step on anyone to get to where I want to go, she will likely try to run for the presidency in 2012, which will be in conflict with expecations for Hillary.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Hillary didn't put them up to it because I recall how she condemned Bill Richardson when he decided to back Obama. Now, if she wanted those defectors of hers to stay with Obama, she would have resorted to the same feelings of outrage that she displayed with Richardson.

Cut your nose to spite your face.
Try to get R v. W overturned with ShotGunMoose hunting Cheney understudy!
Who cares about the strides women had made over the years.. right?  It will all be erased by the right wing extremists.

Just simply stupid .. Evolution has a way of eliminating these.  Oops, you can't even talk about that if Ms. Stone wall freewheeler has her way
WHAT!!!! So i'm guessing Obama should've made his VP selection with Hispanics in mind. What kind of Chit is that???

Well we don't need this joke's vote. He jumped ship cause Obama didn't make his VP pick based on Spanish American's? If that aint superficial thinking I don't know what is.

If they think McCain gives a damn about Spanish Americans they are sadly mistaken.

But we don't need them on board this movement, this one's already in the books. And once those advisors bail out, they can't come back home...

Like Obama said, "they'll have no place at his table".

{You can't hide racism behind stupidity}
Wow, I am sure there are more people like the 'sour grapes' out there. Obama cannot please them all. Also we should not trust what there are saying as I am sure this is what the McCain campaign has told them to say. They were probably also not offered jobs by the Obama camp hense hugh disappointment.

No great loss. They did not list any great achievement they did for Hillary so ...
