McCain: So a third Bush term is true…

The Washington Post examines the fact that so many Bush veterans are helping McCain and Palin. "The clutch of Bush veterans helping to coach Palin reflects a larger reality about Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign: Far from being a group of outsiders to the Republican Party power structure, it is now run largely by skilled operatives who learned their crafts in successive Bush campaigns and various jobs across the Bush government over the past eight years."

“Republicans have been heartened by the effectiveness of the new McCain organization, which has helped put McCain back in serious contention for the White House, causing restlessness among Democrats who believed the race was Sen. Barack Obama's to lose. Dana Perino, the White House spokeswoman, expressed pride at what her former colleagues have been able to accomplish… Yet others, including some sympathetic Republicans, have begun to quietly question whether McCain and Palin are well served by strategists so firmly anchored in the Bush establishment when the candidates are presenting themselves as a ‘team of mavericks’ and agents of change. One Republican with long-standing ties to the Bush administration described the situation as a paradox in which Palin is especially vulnerable.”

“‘If the McCain campaign is trying to prop up Palin as its change agent, and its inoculation against the “third Bush term” rap, then why on earth is she surrounded by a cast of Bush advisers?’ said the Republican loyalist, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. ‘Since she's been selected, every single one of the senior aides that she's brought on board had prominent roles in Bush's White House or on his campaigns, or both.’”

By the way, far fewer Clinton/Gore/Kerry veterans are with Obama than Bush veterans with McCain.

The McCain camp is up with a new ad today that attempts to paint Chicago's historical political image problem on to Obama. Interesting the folks they choose to highlight vs. the Chicago pols they didn’t.

This car fact isn't great for McCain -- 13 for the McCains versus one for the Obamas. Ouch.

On TODAY, NBC's Meredith Vieira asked McCain, "Does it bother you that you draw the biggest crowds when she's [Palin's] there?" McCain dismissed that, saying, "Oh, it's very exciting."

Al Franken, a former Saturday Night Live performer and currently running for U.S. Senate in Minnesota, "had a phone conversation last week with SNL creator Lorne Michaels, his campaign spokeswoman Colleen Murray said Sunday. She described the talk as two friends of more than 30 years catching up, and she said Franken told Michaels about his experiences on the campaign trail. In relating a story about recording campaign commercials, Franken noted how all political candidates must say they 'approve this message' in their ads -- and editorialized that he thought it must be a difficult task for McCain, whom many Democrats and pundits have accused of leveling dishonest charges against Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama."

Here’s SNL's take on McCain's ads.

McCain and Palin may try to seperate themselves from the Bush Administration, and the GOP may huddle around to help them.  However the fact remains that this is a Senator that consistently has side with the Bush adminstration 90 percent of the time.  Now he wants to ride in on his shining white horse and do a 360 degree turn.

I dont belive he is credibleor has the best interest of America at heart.  I truly belive by looking at his ACTIONS and RECORD not his campaign words that our country would be facing a worse disater if he were elected.  Look at the S & L mess of the 80's Does everyone have ADHD on that too.  He was admonished by the senate for that mess and many people were in dire straits.  McCaain appears reactionary to me and impulsive.  He also appears to allow his emotions to interfere with his judgement as was seen last week when he called for the friring of the SEC chairman.

This crisis is stunning to America and at the very least Obama is willing to sit down and look at all the facts and options before throwing out a half backed plan to America, he called for calm, leadership and unity to work through this problem which is so tremendous in side it makes economic experts head spin.

McCain comes out swinging and placed blame at obamas feet without looking at his own culpability in this mess.

Therefore as an independent who has been watching both sides since the primaries I ask do you really want someone who says on thing does another and than changes position when it no longer fits his platform.

I dont.  So on election day Obama/Biden will get my vote.

Why do people keep talking about Carter if this is not 1970 and the circumstances now and then are much different? Are these people's brains set back to that time that they cannot look to the future and only dwell on the past? Bush is in the 21st century American politics, not in Carter's time.
Recent polling has shown hesitancy among many undecideds about voting for a black.  It's sad that we've come so far in some areas and may end up losing the chance of real change because of racial prejudice.  However among the young...particularly the better educated, prejudice is almost nill.  If Americans elect John McCain they will see no change and may have to deal with international problems we can't even imagine.  This former republican is sick of being Trickled on, proud of the youth in America and voting for Obama.
I would rather have a third Bush term than a second Carter term.

This rings so hollow. Look around we aren't exactly in an economic boom right now. Carter was blamed for things largely out of his control. I think this latest round of bailouts (remeber the last one, the savings and loans came after 8+ years of Republican rule) will cost us for decades to come. Then let's talk about the debt we whent from 6 trillion to 9 trillion unders Bush and now with this bailout the government has now ok'd the debt ceiling to go to 11+ trillion. That's debt my children and yours will be paying interest on instead of using that money to fund R&D that this country needs to stay on top.

We in America are comming to the place where we need to decide whether we have two capitalist economies polarized one against the other, or just one with proper respect for all.  Because when this new bailout is done, for some period of time we are going to have a socialist system with one government employee controlling (not just regulating) the essential resources of production - that is, the credit markets. We got here in large part because we have had two ideologically polarized economies for too long.

The message is, if you want to keep what you've gained then you must have and exercise respect for all of the various and distinct engines in our economy that allow it to produce wealth, and not only exploit them.
13 cars, 7 houses, multi-millions.  All of this to me is a sign of success.  Libs can't think logically so they stir up emotions - like ENVY!

To me the poor and middle class of America speak loudly about the Republican management of our country.
I am a disbled Vet who wants to see this country change. I am a democrat who despises Bush and all he stands for. I am an American who wants to see this country prosper again. I am tired of the lies the greed and the self serving republicans who have ruined this country in the last 8 years. I am voting for Obama.
Can YOU feel the Rove?

I'm frankly surprised it took First Read so long to figure this out.  Rove's hand was clearly evident in Palin's acceptance speech which was written by a Bush speechwriter.  Teleprompter malfunction, my eye.  Ad lib about lipstick on a pig ... I mean pitbull ... my eye.

Use your own eyes.  She's not that clever, as evinced by her subsequent appearances.  The only question is ... what price is McCain paying for all this "help"?

it goes well beyond money, you can be sure of it.

So much for the "maverick," if maverick he ever was.

I guess if Obama is in power, we'll all be regulated to 1.3 cars per family, 2.1 children, 1.1 houses. Government issued clothing will eliminate the need for all those fancy rich people clothing stores, like JC Penny's and Target. Walmart of course will be outlawed because they wouldn't let the unions in. And our cars will be vintage '57 chevy's, just like they have in Cuba.

------------------------------------------------------
The republican administration has been in power for 8 years, 6 of which the republican's controlled congress as well. That said, today we have the bush administration. SOCIALIZING the debt of uber-wealthy firms on wall street. The REPUBLICANS are, RIGHT NOW, pushing us further towards Socialism than ANY democratic platform in HISTORY.

Ring Ring! School is out!
I'd rather give Obama a chance for positive change, than to give the last eight Bush years a new McCain paint job and run it for another four.

If the Season gets too hot, you change from a Winter coat to Tee shirt & shorts; you don't pile on more coats.
ANYBODY that welcomes a 3rd BUSH term,or whats worse a OLD man that won't even live out a term in office is just delusional or STUPID!!!!!
"This car fact isn't great for McCain -- 13 for the McCains versus one for the Obamas. Ouch. "

yes john mccain understands the common man more than obama. what a bunch of BS! 13 PEOPLE! 13 CARS!
"I would rather have a third Bush Term than a second Carter term."
Finally! The press calling McCan'ts campaign what it is --- A THIRD BUSH TERM. Biden was so right in calling McSame "Bush 44".
All voters have to do is look back at the last
eight years. Mccain will be more of the same.
The republicans have supported big business,
lobbyists, special interests at the expense
of middle class America.
If they are elected there will be no middle
class America. It will be the rich and the
poor, as their policies leave these enormous
debts to middle class American to bail out,
and it will break us.
i love all of these socialist and communist comments about obama. WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE THINK JUST HAPPENED WITH THOSE BAILOUTS????

more idiotic republican scare tactics.
Democrats Have Problems With Successful People (Sent Monday, September 22, 2008 9:49 AM)?????

Democrats have problems with corrupt politicians, corrupt wall street haymakers, and corrupt banking systems...  All three, GOP darlings...

And, as the rich get richer, the middle class and poor foot the bill.

Obama/Biden 08/12
Was there really any doubt about McCain as a third Bush term?  Tax cuts, free markets and stay in Iraq as long  . . . well forever.   Middle class Americans would be foolish to think that the "mavericks" represent any real change, and frightening that most of the advisors that came on board with the selection of Sarah Palin were from the Bush camp. If they want to be bold and embrace change, they should vote for Obama.
Have you found it interesting that when anybody asks a member of the GOP a question that shows a negative side of them, their answer does not match the question?  It is so totally amazing and so transparent that they do not want to address reality.
I do think they are going to get a reality check in November.
Why are we not discussing deregulation and the Keating 5?

McCain has been involved with deregulation with Charles Keating in 1990 and Phil Gramm in 2000. When is this going to stop, it's going to destroy the Nation.

Charles Keating was one of the men behind the lobby for deregulation so banks and investment agencies could take advantage of their own greed and politicians in 1990.

If McCain becomes President he most likely will appoint Gramm as the Security of The Treasury. Would not this be special?

Why are we not bringing out the facts? The only cable show that has enough guts to bring up the Keating Five is Count Down with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC.

The real hero's of any war are the solders that gave their lives. Maybe Mr. McSain should take a walk to the Vietnam Wall in Washington in order to see the real hero's.

I speak as a Vietnam Veteran 1962 and X Republication. I could never support this man.
Reply to the Future ----   In Cuba they at least have medical care. To bad no one can afford it in this country.
I supported McCain in 2000.  He now, though, has turned his campaign over to Bush's neocon minders.  Few have done more harm to this country than the neocons.  If McCain wins the neocons will stay in power and that is a frightening thought.  I miss the McCain of old.
Can YOU hear that Giant SUCKING sound??

      It's HOOVER/McCain & his Cronies

               & they're after you're hard earned $$

How long will the middle class be content to be share croppers for the rich?

Say NO to 4 more Years w McLame!

Vote for America! Vote for Americans!
