Battleground: Al's bus tour

Al Sharpton is hitting the road on a bus tour for voter registration. His goal -- to register an “estimated 9.5 million unregistered blacks nationally. The campaign is targeting Pennsylvania, Ohio, Missouri, Florida, North Carolina and Michigan, possibly pivotal states in the contest between Obama, a Democrat who would be the first black U.S. president, and Republican John McCain."

The Sun-Times' Sweet looks at the big money that Team Obama sent to battleground states last month.

Cash has been pouring into Planned Parenthood from donors galvanized against Sarah Palin. "A three-week-old Internet campaign is asking abortion-rights activists to send donations to Planned Parenthood in honor of the Alaska governor. The origin of the campaign is unknown and Planned Parenthood officials insist it is not their doing." More: "Katie Groke Ellis, field manager for the Planned Parenthood of the Rockies Action Fund, predicts that the five-state chapter of the group alone could draw $100,000 in donations."

COLORADO: Per the Denver Post: "Colorado Republicans have nearly a 30,000-voter edge in requests for mail-in ballots, but strategists on both sides of the aisle say that may not be enough to overcome the Democrats' historically strong get-out-the-vote efforts on Election Day. The GOP, whose overall voter-registration advantage over Democrats has plummeted 60 percent since the last presidential election, usually excels at racking up early votes. That effort counterbalances the Democrats' Election Day mobilization and the unpredictability of those registered as unaffiliated -- a third of the electorate."

Democrat Mark Udall holds about an 8-point lead against his Republican opponent for Senate.  How robust is support for the green-friendly Dem? "Udall has held a lead in the face of more than $10 million in ads from independent issue groups and political party committees attacking him, about twice as much as the amount spent on ads attacking Schaffer and more than in any other Senate race in the country."

FLORIDA: What might those Florida Hispanic numbers mean for McCain: "Mason-Dixon pollster Brad Coker said his survey found a clear divide in the Hispanic community, with overwhelming support for McCain among Cuban Americans and strong backing for Obama among other Hispanic voters. But the McCain supporters are more likely to go the polls because they've been in the United States longer, Coker said."

INDIANA: "Indiana, with 11 electoral votes, is one of only a handful of states where Obama's advertising has been unanswered by McCain. The Democrat has 32 offices across the state and dozens of paid staffers. His campaign spent about $6 million on television advertising in Indiana leading up to the May primary and has aired at least $1.5 million in TV ads since June. Obama has made five stops in the state since mid-July, and running mate Joe Biden was returning to the state Wednesday. The McCain campaign, by contrast, is nearly invisible. It has no field offices or paid staffers working full-time in the state, and McCain hasn't visited the state since July 1."

NEVADA
: Jon Ralston writes that despite the winds of history against him, the state appears to be leaning towards Obama. "A simple look at the Nevada tallies leads to the conclusion that, despite the polls, the state should go blue in 41 days. Some of the math seems inexorable... Washoe County, where Bush won by 7,000 votes and which had a 17,500-voter edge for the GOP, could have a Democratic plurality come Election Day. That’s unprecedented and ominous for the GOP. And Clark County now has 100,000 more Democrats than Republicans, more than twice the margin of 2004. Obama is significantly ahead with independents in Nevada, but even if he only breaks even, the Democrats would seem to have to struggle mightily to lose."

OHIO: Cincinnati's not feelin' the love from Democrats. "When Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden delivers a speech this morning before an invitation-only crowd in the rotunda of the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal, it will be the first time in 72 days that one of the top Democratic candidates has set foot in the city of Cincinnati." McCain has stumped in nearby areas and his campaign has overnighted in the city recently.

VIRGINIA: Will coal cause trouble for Obama/Biden in the Old Dominion? Richmond Times-Dispatch readers awoke to this headline: "'No coal' comment follows Biden to Va."

Good for Al; he'sregistering AfricanAmericans who will probably be denied by therepublicanvoting-booth Nazis, and distracting the public from his own wrongdoing at the sametime!
AL Sharpton - yet another Democrat that is also a criminal. Maybe Rangle should ride with Sharpton? House Rep William Jefferson of Louisana can drive the bus, and pay for the gas with the $90000 found in his freezer.
In the State of Ohio, those newly registered blacks must produce a valid driver's license or state ID card in order to cast a vote at the polls.  Hope you'er not wasting your time, Mr. Sharpton.

The question is will they be allowed to vote and if they do vote will their vote even be counted?
Al Sharpton.  The gift that keeps giving -- to late-night comedians.

What is amazing to me is the lack of investigation into the oil price decline over the past 2 months despite 2 major hurricanes and tens of rigs being damanged or shut down.

Why isn’t McCain getting credit for the decline?

Let’s review the facts:
1) Oil tops $140/barrel and the cost begins hand wringing about the increased price of goods, airline ticket increases, etc.
2) McCain evaluates the situation and decides that despite his former reluctance to drill off-shore, a re-evaluation was necessary. McCain decides that with advancements in technology it is less risky to drill off-shore than at any time in history. He also knows that the oil price is a futures market and that any perception that more supply is coming would lead futures buyers to look elsewhere for profit. McCain changes his position on off-shore drilling.
3) His pressure on President Bush leads to Bush’s lifting of the moratorium on off-shore drilling.
4) Democrat-led Congress refuses to pass legislation on behalf of the American people, but the futures market sees that there is real intention on the part of McCain and the Republicans.
5) Oil price has fallen almost $40/barrel since its highwater mark this past summer.
6) Obama, playing the middle of the road (which is politically expedient and smart), has remained silent on the issue.
7) McCain’s leadership led to lower oil and gas prices.

There is only ONE leader in this race.
Stay in New York AL, America does'nt need the Distraction you'll bring at this most Important time !
It's not about civil right's anymore, so you & Jesse can Retire, America is moving forward.
The Grassroot efforts in this election year, are absolutely astonishing!! All nationalties are pulling together for a common cause, To Elect BARAK OBAMA & JOE BIDE !! And now AL Sharpton is on the trail to registar voters!! I must really give credit to the many whites who are out there everyday, making change happen as well!! Great Job Everyone, we will be a nation that everyone respects , and would love to live, once again.
Ah, the greedy and racist Planned Parenthood is giving money to support pro-abortion candidates.  No surprise there.  They have plenty to give. After all they millions in taxpayer dollars and they profit millions in their lucrative abortion industry.  Yes, they love to end life for money and then support those who protect their right to continue ending life for money.  As for being racist, a recent headline noted how black babies are aborted at rates well higher than white babies.  No surprise.  That was the goal of abortion promoters like Margaret Sanger from the beginning...to "limit" the black population.  Of course, the media would never look into that because it might actually taint the rosy perception of those who claim to champion "women's rights" and "reproductive rights".  Let's call it what it is...blood money with racist motives.  My prayer is that just as slavery ended due to the courage and perserverance of good folks, so will abortion.  Oh for the day Planned Parenthood is seen for who they really are.
We can expect the thinly disguised racism on faux news to hit a fever pitch now that rev al has shown up...tune into the likes of hannity and cavuto to see how the christian right really thinks
Money should be pouring in to planned parenthood.  if Ms. Palin had educated her teen daughter, she would'nt be pregnant right now & Sarah would'nt be holding a shot gun on the teen father,  and forcing him into something he does'nt want & certainly not ready for.
Thanks, but no thanks, Al.
Its ground operations that will win or lose this thing, barring any dramatic change to the campaign dynamics, like a terrorist attack, etc. But having Sharpton involved could be a double edged sword.

Speaking of potential terrorist attacks, I saw in a British paper that intelligence agencies throughout the West are picking up an al Qaeda interest to hit the U.S. in October. Why? The chatter from al Qaeda is pointedly talking about impacting the election.

Bin Laden reportedly takes some credit for the re-election of Bush and now wants the Republicans to retain the White House, because his focus is on recruitment - his organization's goals depend on recruitment - and attracting new members is an easier sell with a belligerent-appearing U.S. president.
I'm sure Al's intentions are good.  However, I'm not sure if this is the time to have his name connected to Obama.  Al and his crew are still tied to the old-school Civil-Rights era, and his very presence will bring cries of PLAYING THE RACE CARD from the right.  He could be another distraction that the McCain camp will use against Obama (especially now that Obama has a 9pt lead over him).

Obama/Biden '08!
Thank goodness for Planned Parenthood.  Hannity and Cavuto are 2 idiots that are part of the republican fix news show.  Its so sad to see how racism exists in this country.  Some things never change.  If nothing changes, nothing will change.  8 more years, GEEZ... ENOUGH!!!!
Obama/Biden 08'
Go Al.  Turn out and a big one is the only way to defeat the fear and more fear tactics of the RNC.  Voters supporting Obama can't assume a win because the polls say they're ahead.   Remember Florida and Ohio...people turned away, chads!, broken machines, etc.  Lee Atwater tactics of hate and divisiveness are alive and well and work.  If there's a doubt you can vote on November 4th...apply for an absentee ballot Now.  You can usually download the applications.  Defeating McCain isn't going to be easy.
Like mother like daughter -- Sarah's oldest son was born 8 months after Sarah and Todd got married. Perhaps they'll start a PAC called "Unplanned Parenthood"
What is amazing to me is the lack of investigation into the oil price decline over the past 2 months despite 2 major hurricanes and tens of rigs being damanged or shut down.

Why isn’t McCain getting credit for the decline?

why should McClown get credit?  Big Oil backs republicans and tends to lower prices on fuel right before every election.  Now... with the price of oil jumping 21 dollars per barrell the other day... that's not good news for McClown... but since he's in Big Oils pocket and they have a vested interest in who wins... numbers will be as low as they can get them.

As for Sharpton...

What he's going to do is... not only register voters... he's going to ensure people update their licenses and state IDs to reflect current addresses.  he was in Cleveland last go around when people were turned away and they are not going to be turned back this time.  The African American vote is going to be insane this time around... I think its something the polls can't pick up and republicans are underestimating.

g`pa (Sent Wednesday, September 24, 2008 9:47 AM)

Then again...isnt there an awful lot the Palin's aren't ready for?
Registering new voters is good no matter who is
involved.
When and if the media decides to give fair coverage
to both parties, perhaps the voters will get more
than the hocky mom.
Cannot believe, with the importance of this election,
lies are not exposed.
Mccains main advisor has been in the pockets of
Fannie Mae and gets little mention. It if had
been Obama would be top headlines for days.
