Obama on 'A stronger economy'

From NBC's Carrie Dann
With the latest rash of polling showing Barack Obama winning the favor of voters concerned about the economy, the Illinois senator’s campaign is up today with a 60-second ad that lists the Democratic nominee’s economic goals.

At the start of the ad, Obama also digs into the Bush administration policies that he says encouraged the nation’s current financial distress. “Well, now we know the truth,” he says. “Instead of prosperity trickling down, pain has trickled up.”

The spot is running in “key targeted states."

In an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released yesterday, respondents gave Obama a 12 point advantage over McCain when asked which candidate they believed would improve the economy.

Script:
BARACK OBAMA: For eight years we’ve been told that the way to a stronger economy was to give huge tax breaks to corporations and the wealthiest. Cut oversight on Wall Street. And somehow all Americans would benefit.
Well now we know the truth.
Instead of prosperity trickling down, pain has trickled up. We need to change direction. Now.
I’m Barack Obama. Here’s what I’ll do as president: End the Wall Street free for all with commonsense safeguards that put homeowners and struggling families first -- not corporate greed and CEO bonuses. Jumpstart our economy with a middle class tax cut, paid for by closing special interest group loopholes. Get serious about energy independence. A ten-year mission to create millions of good paying jobs by investing in made-in-America energy and infrastructure. You can read my whole plan to rebuild our economy on our website, Barackobama.com.
It’s time to get our economy back on track and put the middle class first again. And that’s why I approve this message.

Let both “Chicken Little’s” go home to Arizona and Alaska and live out their ancient fairytale ideologies.

Obama is true leadership material for the 21st Century. Both Senator Barack Obama and Senator Joe Biden are ready to be Commander-In-Chief  PRIOR to Day 1.

Wow...what an utterly LOGICAL approach to the situation.

So Obama actually stopped to put some thought into the issue, came to a conclusion, formed a plan of attack and then put it out there for all to see?

I get this picture of John McCain right now, smoke coming out of his ears, tilting rapidly to each side on his feet, saying, "DOES NOT COMPUTE!  DOES NOT COMPUTE!  SYSTEM MALFUNCTION!"
This is exactly the message! Go Obama!!
Once again, perfect poise and diction, direct and to the point, no nonsense approach to problem solving, and based firmly in his belief that he has the ability and judgment to correct this mess.

John McCain has what exactly...? More political stunts?

McCain should permenantly suspend his campaign, for the good of all.
The fact remains that Barack Obama is acting presidential through this mess, and John McCain is in hiding.  What kind of President would McCain *be*?!?

You can't hide from tough issues.  You can't press the "pause" button.  This is life, not TiVo.

Funny how McChicken's had to reverse course on his economic plan...deregulation becomes new regulation...'CAUSE HE'S A MAVERICK!

Obama?  Steady as she goes!

I'll take this ad over W's "Deer In The Headlights" moment from last night.
Bush's policies? It was Clinton's policy to increase both minority and the poors ownership in homes. Clinton agreed things like welfare and child support checks could be reported as income on loan applications. Fannie and Freddie were encouraged to underwrite these loans. We see the result. Not pretty. Affirmative Action programs for home ownership are just not a good idea.
No one should be fooled by he degree of urgency that McCain uses to justify dodging the debate. That urgency is solely the product of Bush trying to get his plan passed through Congress with limited review and debate.
Wow... That's how u do it. I'm so excited to see what happens in the next couple of days. I'm surprised Mccain hasnt had a stroke yet!
Today is the first day of the END of the McCain campaign.
Thank you, Mr. President!
Great job! Let the "Hero" and "All Knowledge" go home, you just keep showing us that you are logical and presidential.
Polls may be up for Obama, but wait until voters realize his only plan is to increase taxes and send out rebate checks. Voters are smarter then that Obama. Well, most voters are, you still have the looney left wing that you can depend on.
Very clear and concise LEADERSHIP.

Senator Obama is a leader we can have faith in.

Voters ----- don't be foolish;   throw the Republicans out!

OBAMA/BIDEN '08
Go to U. Mississippi Senator Obama with or without the old dinosaur.  If he doesn't show open up the mic's to the audience, take phone calls and you'll knock em' dead.  McCutnRun hasn't fooled anyone with his posturing and hopes to postpone and possibly ruin the chance for the vp debate.
Obama=class
McSmell=ass
Things would be a little easier if Obama wasn't running through the country side shouting "The Sky Is Falling!!". Makes him look foolish.
As always another great ad by the Obama campaign.  Time for some Robin Hood economics of taking from the rich and greedy and giving to the poor and needy and the middle class.  No more Sherrif of Notingham economics!

This whole phony financial crisis is a manufactured crisis to rush Congress into making a hasty stupid decision like they did 6 years ago.

We can now see that this crisis and bailout is a total repudiation of Ronny Raygunz's Voo Doo Tinkle Down economic policy that has kept the richest and greediest from paying their fair share of taxes and to allow the repugnant one's white collar criminal cronies on Wall Street to perpetrate the biggest taxpayer ripoff of all time.  All we got was the wrong kind of Golden Shower!

Let Wall Street pull itself up by it's own Bootstraps!

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!
Wow someone wanting to address the public. That's a nice change.
Calm, consistent, deliberate, pricipled, purposeful.  Add classy and that's good leadership.

McShame's erractic, knee-jerk, where the He!! am I approach scares the SHYT out of me. Add Palin and we're screwed!
This is an excellent ad.  It makes so much more sense to me that Obama and McCain continue on with the campaign and with the debate.  The LAST thing this process needs is two cooks coming in to the kitchen at the last minute trying to add more seasoning to this "dinner".  Thanks Senator Obama for trying to keep presidental politics out of this situation!
Well said, Mr. President.
This is exactly what I've been preaching from day 1 on these boards...I'm glad people can finally hear it from his mouth.

This is the beginning of a new direction, and none too soon.  Thank you for your Service Barack

Barak Obama has a plan and he has stuck to it. Consistancy, deliberateness, calm, steady, inteligent, common sense and stability, none of which McCain has a clue about.

Erratic, disunity, critical, angry and locked in victomalogy, McCain's strong points!! Add it up.
This logical, level headed approach is exactly what this country needs.

Obama / Biden '08 / '12
Now where were McCain's plans for the future economic success of this country? Oh, he has none because he thinks the fundamentals of our economy are strong, no wait, he thinks we are in dire straights, no wait, he thinks everything is Obama's fault, no wait he's not sure what he thinks. I see.

WE HAVE A NEW NAME FOR MR. McCAIN BASED ON HIS RECENT BEHAVIOR...

JOHN WAYNE McCAIN!!

I AM GETTING OUT IN FRONT OF THOSE CAMERAS, RUNNING TO WASHINGTON, JUMP IN THE MIDDLE OF DELICATE NEGOTIATING, AND SOLVE THIS PROBLEM....JOHN WAYNE McCAIN!!!  WHAT A MAN!!
good job OBAMA,tell them let them know; all the skeptics, all the haters, those who b'cos of color think they are superior. Let them come out and tell us what plans Mcpain has set forth, nothing, nada yes nada, that cos he's just interested in politisizing everything so long it wld distract us from the real issue. GO OBAMA/BIDEN 08/12.

SAY NO TO MCPAIN.
Hate to point out that the great hope for green jobs is already happening.  T Boone Pickens just bought around 700 wind turbines from GE.  Seems that the green jobs are being created with government help, and they're not being created in Ohio or Pennsylvania.

Also, what are his common sense proposals?  Who is against common sense?  It's as controversial as saying you like apple pie.
To BOTH candidates: Instead of bailing out corporations for poor financial management and at tremendous cost to the tax payer, bail out the tax payer! Take the mortgages of all the tax payers who have lost their homes or are about to loose their homes and pay off these debts. Without running the numbers, I am willing to estimate it to be less costly than what is being considered for the corporate bail out. By implementing this suggestion, instead, the tax payers are truly benefited, money is funneled into a hemmoraging system that will then be able to preserve the retirement funds for those tax payers who are at risk. "Golden paracute" for poor management? I don't think so. This benefit should be forfieted due to poor purformance. Then establish oversight committees for banking and trading, etc made up of taxpayers with skills in finance, banking and economics who have no personal agendas or conflicts of interest and let the taxpayer truly be involved in establishing ACCOUNTABILITY! Government BY the people and FOR the people! I am available to assist in hammering out the details. I have an interest in preserving my country's dignity and credibility, not to mention establishing accountability to and by every single citizen of this great nation.
Twice in the last 3 days I've had uninformed Republican voters tell me essentially "At least McCain has a plan, Obama is just a good speaker."  I direct them to both candidates' websites and say "Check out their economic plans and get back to me about that."  And BOTH TIMES, they've responded that they're completely surprised at the depth, breadth and consideration in Obama's plan and how he will actually be helping out the middle class (SHOCKING! But not really...)

That's what leadership is about: actually studying the issues and formulating innovative ideas, not attention-grabbing prima donna politics.  McCain is not showing us presidential behavior, he's showing us adolescent dramatics.
McCain as usual can't make up his mind on what is going to do. so reckless.
his actions show already how will he do in the white house if he'll commander in chief.
poor Sen. McCain.
If we're going to point fingers and lay blame, let's not stop with the Bush Administration.  Clinton policy promoting low cost housing and home ownership for all laid the foundation for all of this.  In 2001, Bush urged review and regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, warning that there would be adverse consequences otherwise...his words were ignored.  In 2003, Barney Frank (now outraged by the despots on Wall Street)stated FMAE and FMAC were healthy and, in fact urged further lending to enhance homeownership for all Americans.  He also stated that if FMAC/MAE failed it wouldn't be bailed out anyway.

In 2005, John McCain again warned of the impending danger of significant financial consequences if regulation and oversight wasn't begun.  Again, ignored.

And what of Obama?  Not a word...not one word.  We say he has vision?  He is the leader to move us out of this mess?  How?  What I have seen is his political savvy and posturing behind the wave, not ahead of it.  He forms his positions only after he sees the political landscape and how his response will affect his position.  He is a political strategist who only postures and avoids taking a stand the way a true leader would.
And what's even better? Obama's been saying these things since his campaign began. His economic plan has been remarkably consistent. He hasn't championed one thing and flipped to another when it was politically expedient.

I pray he doesn't cave on the debate tomorrow night. McCain is being childish, and I'm tired of this fear-mongering. Don't engage.
Flash: Deal Agreed to In Principal!

Now there is no excuse for McCain to back out of the debates. Nor for the VP debates to be rescheduled . . . unless of course, McCain can think of something else to get him out of talking about the economy.

If the readers of this post love our country, you cannot vote mccain and palin into office.

If you vote for them, you are proving that you care NOTHING about our great country.

We can't survive another unqualified administration, that does NOT have the country's best interest at heart.

The Friday debate should be about the ECONOMY

How did we get here ?
How will we handle the melt down ?
Who will benefit from the bail out ?
Why are we loaning money instead of BUYING EQUITY ?
What regulations must be RE-INSTATED ?
What happened to Bush's 'OWNERSHIP SOCIETY' ?

Will we get 'MIDDLE CLASS TAX CUST' ?
Or tax cuts for the wealthy ?
When will corporations begin paying THEIR FAIR SHARE OF TAXES ?
Now there is all this skuttle butt about which candidate was more presidential in his response to this crisis. I don't understand the critisism of Obama being "Too cool.."and "not passionate enough". Mcain spends days illustrating his confusion as to what was going on,first denying the problem, then blaming Obama (????) and then finally donning his sheeps clothing and getting enraged, and NOW trying to postpone the debate. Who do the campaign and the candidate think they are fooling?
I am happy that Obama is cool. Instead of going off on tirades, he faces the issue head on and THINKS, gathers information and consults with true experts. He is not engaged in any political wrangling, just demonstrating clearly how he would function as president.
As Mr Bushes statement clearly illustrates, we need a functioning individual in The White House after the disgrace and destruction that we have all suffered over the last 8 years.
Liz
Obama on once again showing true leadership.  That is what a President should sound like!!  Not like McBumbling!!  McBumbling/Palin no way!!!
I love Obama, but "paid for by closing special interest group loopholes" sounds pretty lame.  I think he should, however, point out that the candidate who wants to raise middle-class taxes is McCain, with his "tax your insurance premiums" healthcare plan.
Good job! Let's Keep that gap in the polls widening!
We need a landslide for Obama in November so there will be no doubt by the Republicans that the game has been changed and they need to change too!
See republicans...THIS is what TRUE LEADERSHIP is...Ready, Willing and Able on DAY 1!
And this why we'll vote for him.
I have seen the future and it is a strong America under the stewardship of Barack Obama. We know where we want to go as a country and Barack is the leader who can get us there.
Now that's the way to start an ad.
A rational response.  It's about the future.  As opposed to McCain's trying to get in on the credit for soemthing that has little to do with his input.
GREAT AD ------This is what a REAL President should do :O) no like Mcain panick attacked so I must stop my campaign and everything else, the country must stop because of this crisis, BULL.....
A rational response.  It's about the future.  As opposed to McCain's trying to get in on the credit for soemthing that has little to do with his input.
God help us if McCain wins and we end up with an economics simpleton in the White House.
