The McCain campaign just sent out an email to supporters that highlights his return to DC tonight to "to resume negotiations with the Administration and Congressional leaders from both parties to forge a bipartisan solution to our economic crisis."

More: "We cannot be interested in who would get credit for finding a solution and who would be blamed if an agreement cannot be reached. We must put our country first to solve this economic crisis. Because in the end, that's what leaders do in times of crisis."

Citing that "we are ready to lead and the Obama-Biden Democrats are not," the email ends with an appeal for fundraising dollars.

"In the final weeks of this campaign, we will need to fund crucial get-out-the-vote and grassroots activities that will assist our entire ticket, from the top to the bottom to secure victory on Election Day. I'm asking you to help us by making a contribution right now to McCain-Palin Victory 2008."

A superficial comment, Obama wore a lapel flag pin, McCain did not.  Wasn't Obama criticized for not wearing a lapel flag pin?  I wonder if McCain will be....
WHERE IS SARAH PALIN TONIGHT?? Is she hiding in an undisclosed location with Dick Cheney?
I'll contribute my opinion.  I think McCain is trustworthy and ironically, seems less tested and presidential next to Obama.  He wouldn't even look at him during the debate.  And he lies like it's nothing.  Doesn't he know that we can find out the facts pretty easily?  It's hard to respect him anymore.
What has Mc become.  The second coming.  He is not on the committe and will not be able to do anything until it is voted on.  He just wants to make sure his buddies get a big tax break and more money.
How can you appeal for bipartisan support in the same mail as you blame Obama-Biden. You do not understand economics as you said and you are not on the banking committee. A president should appoint and let those best positioned to do their jobs. Canceling debates one day and uncanceling the next. Please help get this lot out of our presidency. We have had ENOUGH over the past eight years. Vote on the debate winner and on November.
I can understand why alot of people don't like this discussion because you never show differing view pts - hello a difference of opinion is part of democracy start displaying differing view pts
Former Hillary supporter Supporting McCain - Nobama
The American economy is in a loose-loose situation. Because of the policies of Republicans, as represented by Bush and McCain, America looses if the proposal before Congress passes and if it doesn’t pass. Ironically, Bush is expecting the Democrats to be the fall guys for the consequences of eight years of Bush-McCain policy by passing the proposal without bipartisan  support. While America looses with or without the legislation, the public (voters) will be angry against those who acted, instead of those who created the problem. Is it a question of Bush  audacity of Democratic gullibility?
By leading, McCain means more grandstanding in public, but sitting around in meetings making little comment, consulting no one on the wisdom of the House Republican plan concocted to save his campaign? I don't buy his idea of leadership.
Everyone knows this is a political stunt.  He is not putting country first, only himself.  He can not even state his stand on the financial crisis.
McCain is a ok guy but I just don't trust him
Sorry McCant. Your days are numbered. You will be remembered for your heroic POW days but "Thanks but NO Thanks" on being our President.
Obama and Biden are ready to address the many challenges facing America at this critical juncture. The McCain/Palin team are the least prepared to meet the challenge.
McCain you are a moron.
John....too little...years too late.  In 2000, you might have had a case...but, now?  "You aint the same as you were...sure, you could have been a 'contenda', but those days are over..time to retire from the ring, sluggo"
John, you just don't play well with others.
Please give me a break. McCain came off as out of touch and a simple minded war lord. He will finish destroying whats left of America after his buddy Bush is done. Obama is about the future and diplomacy. McCain has done nothing but pull one stunt after another starting with Sarah Palin. He knows this is his last chance at the being the president and he will do anything to win.
Why didn't Mr. Obama point out, and he has mentioned this before in his stump speeches, that lobbyists are the ones who have propelled the US into this financial mess and if the next President takes them out of the equation, which Mr. Obama has said he want to do, then we will all be better off. Then he should have listed McCain's campaign staff which is infested with high level long time lobbyists, many of the same ones that got us in this mess in the first place???!!! Following up with pointing out that if McCain is truly honest in his desire to ride Washington of corruption then why is he hiring and taking advice from the very people who have successfully dismantled and maybe destroyed the US economy?????!!!!
This is a continuation of the political theater that has taken place for the last couple of days. Please no more stunts.
We saw old politics (condesendence, insinuations, and repetitive misrepresentations of opponents positions), on one hand, and the new politics (mastery of issues, truthtelling, intelligence, and class), on the other. I preferred the latter!

Obama totally won the debate tonight! Mccain would not even look at Obama / His attitude was comtemptous and it appeared to be sneering and I thought racist! Mccain appeared out of touch with reality and  current affairs and he again played the pow card for sympathy!
And since he includes Palin in the "we are ready to lead and the Obama-Biden Democrats are not," bs, I challenge McCain to send Palin to work with the Congress on the bailout, and let McCain continue his campaigning.  Let's see how quickly they chew her up and spit her all the way back to Alaska.

After all, the next VP's primary job (she asked at the end of July and still probably doesn't know) is as President of the Senate.  Of course the other job is to be first in line of succession to the President of the United States!
Go Obama!
McCain looked grumpy and snarky...NEVER looked Obama in the eye...not even when they shook hands in the beginning.
McCain is doing everything possible to change the story tonight: McCain lost this debate!!! Plain and simple.
Where was Palin at home? Are they so scared of her as to hide even during the debates?
It is a fact that John Wayne McCain was a cowboy on handling the financial crisis. To any way ascert that he is going to save the day on this issue is absurd.

Please Mr. McCain stay out of the process!  You, as John Wayne McCain, will not solve this process.  Please allow the Senators and Congressmen and Congresswomen do their jobs.
McCain exhibits how America has come to a state of general decline.
The Soviet Union collapsed from a failure of the economy. McCain may lead America to collapse.

Oops!  Too Late, John.  Your debating skills did not win my vote.  I just sent $100 to the Barack Obama campaign immediately following the debate because I sincerely believe he is ready to lead our country.
Poor John, he can remember what countries he has been to, but can't remember how many houses he has. Go to one of them and retire.

"Debate and Disagreement are the Heart and Soul of Democracy."  Obama 2008
Why is the McCain campaign still fundraising?  Didn't he accept & receive $84M in public campaign financing???
Is McCain able to raise $$$ this way?  I thought he was bound by public financing rules and no longer able to seek donations.  Do have this wrong?
Obama clearly won the debate. I just hope America can see what McCain really represent; Disaster for our country.
John McCain from the start of his primary campaign to this moment has demonstrated a reckless and directionless aproach. It has been difficult to understand just what he really believes because he has jumped around so much looking for votes. Then he ran a sleezey ad campaign, picked a VP who no one wantes to put in front of the cameras anymore, and he continues to confuse things day after day. I think he is likely a good one or two issue man and can bully his way through the halls of lawmakers. But, he clearly cannot envision a larger picture, get a focus on where he is going, and lead the country in a very complex time. And, hey, I'm an old guy who likes telling my old stories. But, I am SICK of hearing John continue to play the sympathy card and trying to suck out votes by playing on valor. He lost most of my respect during the weeks of listening to his lies.
Just my read...McCain's inability to look Obama in the eye stems from two character flaws: l) He is selfconscious around people who are obviously more intelligent than he 2) Failure to look at the person you are addressing indicates that your words carry an element of deceit that will be discerned by that person if you allow them to look into your eyes.  His obvious disdain for Obama was evident even in his inability to look at him when he shook hands at the start.  John told so many obvious lies that he had to avert his eyes throughout the debate. One blunder that he made that will come back to haunt him is having bragged about his choice of "Maverick" Palin as his running mate.  From all indications, the many calls by conservative pundits for him to drop her from the ticket seem to indicate that the Republicans are scared that she is going to drag him down even further.  My prediction is that there will be no vice presidential debate.  She'll either come down with an illness, or the Repugs will pull her from the ticket just prior to the debate. Either way, it won't fool the public and will sink his campaign.
McCain didn't look Obama in the eyes once, not so much out of rivalry or contempt, as fear
John McCain – Maverick or Maniac?
Maverick:  an unbranded animal and by law of the range becomes the property of the one who brands it.  In 2000 McCain could claim to be a maverick, somebody who holds independent views and refuses to conform to accepted or orthodox thinking on a subject.  In 2008, McCain was found and branded by the extreme right wing of the Republican Party.
Maniac: somebody who is given to rapidly changing ideas and impulsive behavior.  Crashes two or more airplanes learning to fly.  After a 15 minute interview, selects an unqualified individual to be president of the United States.  Can’t remember how many houses he owns.  Says the fundamentals of the economy are strong but later says he meant to say the American worker is strong.  Says he will suspend his campaign to work on the fiscal crisis then gives a campaign speech at the nonpartisan Clinton conference, sings about bombing Iran.  Tells Letterman he’s got to get back to DC to work on the fiscal crisis but does an interview with someone else and leaves town the next day.
Need I say more?
