MoveOn pins bailout on McCain, Bush

From NBC's Carrie Dann
The newest in MoveOn.org's "My Friends" series - an ad campaign knocking McCain's advisers and associates - takes on the Arizona senator over his advisors' role in the dergulation leading up to the Wall Street crash.  The bill slams deregulator Phil Gramm and former Freddie/Fannie lobbyist and McCain campaign manager Rick Davis.

But the Number One "friend" targeted in the new spot is none other than George Bush, and the crime is his bailout proposal  --  which both Obama and McCain have guardedly endorsed.

*** UPDATE *** RNC spokesman Alex Conant sent on this response when the ad was first unveiled last week: "“Barack Obama’s liberal allies are launching a partisan attack at the precise moment we should be putting politics aside and working to solve the problem. These sorts of false attacks by special interest groups are part of what’s wrong with Washington.”

"John McCain's friend George Bush wants hard-working Americans to write the biggest blank check in history," says the ad's narrator.

Both presidential candidates urged for the bill's passage over the weekend, offering measured support for the compromise legislation reached on the Hill early Sunday morning.

Calling the bailout bill "outrageous," the ad concludes that "Americans shouldn't have to foot the bill for mistakes John McCain and his friends made."

Also among the flurry of ads hitting TV and radio airwaves today is a McCain-Palin response to Obama's accusation - almost uniformly characterized as misleading by fact-checkers - that McCain opposes stem cell research. "John McCain and his Congressional allies fought FOR stem cell research.  They stood up and said stem cell research was too important for you and your family," says the narrator of a new radio ad running in swing states' urban centers.

John McCain has voiced support for stem cell research, to the dismay of some religious conservatives in his party, but running mate Palin opposes it.

Although  didn't watch the debate, I feel McCain won,( obama is just too stupid to win anything ) as he ( McCain )will the election. The bump in polls can be written off as HMMMMMMMMMMM, but this too shall pass quickly !
Fl Voter
***********

And this is what the american voter is redusced to.  Ignorate moron's that cant even take 90 minutes out of their pathetic lives in order to make a better informed choice for their future.  Just come out and say it, moron, you're a racist, you're an idiot and you are a pathetic excuce for a citizen.
Well, okay, except that all the Democrats in congress will be voting for the bailout and only a handful of Republicans will be stupid enough to do the same. MoveOn should really MoveAway.
I think Senator Obama is endorsing not letting millions of Americans lose their life savings just to prove a political point, which is not the same as endorsing the culture of corruption and non regulation that got us here.
I thought Obama gave up on 527s when he declined public financing. So what's moveon up too? I mean besides lying to the American people yet again.
John McCain you "can't" handle the truth ! No more lies !
How odd-I thought that moveon had picked up its tent and vamoosed into the night...

I thought that Obama had ordered them to stay out of the election. . .

I thought that they had shut down their 527. . .

I guess it's a case of more lies from the left.
First Read must have that Peruvian exchange student screening posts today. Takes a lot of time to go back and forth to the translation book.
Keep 'em coming MoveOn.org.  Continue to point out the hypocrisy and greed and corruption in the Republican party/brand.  The repubs will stop at nothing and I want MoveOn to stop at nothing to shine a flashlight on it.

from FIRST THOUGHTS: A SHIFT TOWARD OBAMA  - “…But Barack Obama???? WHAT HAS HE DONE TO EARN IT??? Chuck, are you kidding me?? When has "great" become so cheap???”  Dr. Duque, Chicago (Sent Monday, September 29, 2008 11:11 AM)
^^^^^
Wow, just WOW!  Dr. Duque, you have some serious issues.  Obama’s life story makes him a great man {bi racial child of often single mother, absentee father, identity issues – persevering through college, acceptance at Harvard without using Affirmative Action, being ELECTED to Harvard Law Review, turning down lucrative offers to aid Chicagoans}.  His temperament in light of hideous attacks and whisper campaigns makes him a great man.  His work to improve the lives of others makes him a great man.  Putting up with the obvious bigotry of people like you makes him a great man.  Get over yourself.  I have said this on this site at least a couple of times:  Obama has to do everything he does under a bigger microscope and do it IMPECCABLY and all McCain has to do is maintain a pulse.  I am disgusted with people like you who trivialize the character of another human being because you look at the world through hate filled goggles.  The judgment and demeanor of Obama in light of ALL that has happened in his life and especially in this campaign is all I need to know.  He IS going to be your next President and you’d do better to accept that and let the healing begin; because your animosity and spite is unbecoming.
McCain does NOT know what he is doing.  Great ad.

He and his Republican cronies are, in great part, responsible for this economic MESS.

The debate proved the Senator Obama understands the world and foreign policy in a much more realistic way.

We NEED Obama and Biden at this crucial time.  These two gentlemen (....and I repeat, gentlemen) have the smarts to do it.

I don't see it that way.  I see an ad claiming that knee jerk deregulation brought us to a point where an enormous bail out is necessary, and that McCain hasn't even learned enough from the experience to realize where the problem originated...and certainly won't take responsibility for his part in the mess.  All of which is valid.  MoveOn sometimes stretches to make their points, but it's hard to see where that's the case on this one.
I will be so glad when this election is over and Barack Obama is the next president-elect.
Of course Moveon neglects to tell everyone that it was Clinton that signed the bill opening up loans to people that did not qualify for them. With that bill, alimony and welfare checks were included in the Income column for people applying for loans. Banks had to loan money to people that didn't qualify for loans else they'd have a bunch of government lawyers suing them.

So once again Moveon gives only part of the story.
This ad is NOT pinning the bailout on McCain - it is pinning the NEED for a bailout on McCain.

You places your bets on deregulation - you takes your chances.  All his life McCain has bet on deregulation - he lost!
Ha ! Ha ! Told you so, it's all the "Republican" no control system. It got us into this mess.
I expect the distortions, and out and out lying to increase as McCain becomes more, and more desperate.
It's probably to late for this election, but if ads had to go through an independent fact checker clearing-house before being released on the public, that would be very helpful to the voters.
If that were the case now, then McCain's campaign would be mute at this point.
It will illegal to be white if Obama wins.
What can you expect from moveon they only purpose is to promote Partisan Polictics, I may be naive but I expect more from our leaders in Washington it is very easy to point fingers at the White House that is a mess that will come to an end in November. Like many Americans I am very frustrated with Partisan Politics and the power of Special Interest groups have in Washington?  Where do we go from here?

My expectations of congress regardless of party affiliation is to work together to find common ground to end the gridlock and stop pointing fingers at each other and get the job done.  I am looking for a proactive government not a reactive government be part of the solution not part of the problem
Let's not forget "Alzheimer" Reagan and his whole failed Tinkle Down economic nonsense that gave us middle Americans nothing but the wrong kind of Golden Shower.  It's time to repudiate that whole lying economic theory that has done nothing but create massive budget deficits and made the income inequality much worse for us regular folks who did not get our fair share of all those wrong headed tax cuts that only benefitted the repugnant one's politicians.

I'm glad that MoveOn.org is doing some great ads like this one to expose the real culprits of this Wall Street and global financial crisis.  This proves we can never trust private business to do business legitimately.  While many in private business are honest there are way too many who are thieves who steal from us.  That's why we need government regulation, to keep the white collar criminal cronies of Bush/McCain from ripping us off.

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!
When I hear John McCain continue to use the phrase, "my friends" it sounds so hollow and meaningless. That ad is perfect. Get McCain out of here. Please.
Normally I agree with much of what MoveOn has to say, however this time I respectfully disagree with them.  Do I like the bailout?  No way.  But I understand the reasons for it.  Sink or swim, right?  But McCain supported the economy all along...as well as the President.
The culture that brought about the bailout was the culture of Reid/Pelosi/Frank/Bill Clinton/Chris Dodd. It was trying to force social engineering on the banking industry by making them take on unqualified borrowers.. Just a couple of years ago , ole Barney stated when Bush and Mc Cain wanted to fix Fannie Mae that Fannie Mae and company were not in trouble because of these loans, that it was all a trick trying to keep affordable housing out of the hands of high risk;unqualified borrowers.
E
Whats a mere 40 million amongst friends, when the new benchmark is hundreds of billion dollars or even a trillion, here and there.
I've said it before and I'll say it again...

Obama should release an ad showing just that shot of Bush and McCain giving each other a huge, friendly hug.

Just show that one shot.  Linger on it for a good 10-15 seconds.  No words would be necessary.

Just show that one shot and that's it.  I can think of no ad more powerful than that.
"I thought Obama gave up on 527s when he declined public financing. So what's moveon up too? I mean besides lying to the American people yet again"

First, MoveOn.Org is not part of the Obama campaign
Second, The ad is factually true.

You can call them liars all you want, since you're in denile
Move On is just one of the DNC's house organization. Anything they say has to be taken with that in mind. Only mindless people would think that they are some kind of independent organization that looks at issues objectively and then after careful thought articulate a viewpoint.
The next release out of them might be that McCain has hired hit men to go out and assassinate all of Obama's supporters
Michael Moore is right: this is BushCo stealing the silverware.

Good strategy: whine about 527 bs and ignore the big issue. Vicious personal attacks and character assassination were started with Atwater and perfected by Rove. Suck on it.
Clara, I believe you are the one with issues as are many others of like opinion.  Just because I choose one candidate over the other doesn't mean that I am racist or hate filled.  I too have risen from the ashes of a lesser beginning.  That doesn't make me an exceptional person that makes me an overcomer!  Both candidates are good men.  I believe that McCain has overcome and withstood much more than Obama.  The age difference and character building alone give McCain the greater advantage.  AS for the bigger microscope.  I believe this has worked to his advantage and not against as I have never seen more biased news reporting ever!  McCain has been attacked medially as I have never seen before and yet he stands.  I find your letter most unbecoming myself and blatantly rude.  Heal thyself or better yet Look UP!
Republican's and their deregulation theories have been put to the test over the last 8 years and we now see the results. The bail out it seems is necessary to help the economy survive these policies. No wonder all repubs won't vote for it, they still think the markets should be unregulated. This is a mess brought on by the "trickle down theory" and the average Joe is loosing. Obama had the forsight to see it. John McCain still doesn't...
To: no joe, no bo. NJ

You do know that MoveOn.com isnt affiliated with any campain, right?  You do know they raise their own money and have their own agenda.  Obama cant order then to do anything.  He can ask, but they have the right to decide whether or not to follow the request.  So, seriously, stop acting like a moron.  I know that's hard, but try
Even though MoveOn has endorsed Obama, their advertising is issues-based, and shouldn't be judged in the same way as his campaign's advertising. There's no, "My name is B.O. and I approved this message" at the end of their ads. They're free to spend money on whatever ads they want.
So, I take it all you people that are defending/supporting McCain are ecstatic with how far Bush/McCain have driven this country into the ground. And you just can't wait to give the same administration "McCain/Bush" another four years so they can finish the job. I always wondered what kind of logic fueled their supporters, now I can see its "illogical-logic". Thanks for clearing that up.
John McCain worked right along side his buddy former Senator Phil Gramm to make sure there was no regulation on the housing credit mess that helped creat todays subprime meltdown. So we have to help bail them out???Follow the money!!
I saw the ad for the first time today.  Initial thoughts: Now that is hitting back!! A great ad that was accurate, truthful...and if you are/were a Repubican...embarrassing.
John McCain has voiced support for stem cell research, to the dismay of some religious conservatives in his party, but running mate Palin opposes it.

First Read, why do you and the media continue to report in such a misleading way?  Palin opposes EMBRYONIC Stem cell research but NOT ALL stem cell research.  The way the above is written, the average voter not knowing better would assume she's against ALL of it...which is NOT true.  What you guys also fail to report are the many significant breakthroughs that have been made with adult stem cell research which will soon make the controversial need for embryonic stem cells a mute point.  Please be more professional and exact in your reporting and avoid misleading generalisms.
To DV in CA ...

Obama may be a lot of things, but stupid is certainly not one of them.  Frankly I want a well-educated and REALLY smart President.  We've suffered for 8 years with an idiot ... electing McCain would make that 12 years!

Brains in the White House '08
Obama never told any 527's they couldn't run adds only asked that they not take contributions from lobbyist. Good for Move-on, the public needs to know the truth!
What you pundits so failed to recognize is that it is the voters whose decision counts and the voters said Obama won the debate and will be our next president.
Is it just me or....I wanna see some perp walks! I wanna see a parade of geeks in $2,000. Gucci suits handcuffed and marching of to JAIL.
Clara, everything you spout about Obama not only doesn't make him great, it barely makes him ordinary.  Lots of us grow up in broken families, poor, etc, etc, etc!!!  Having a certain upbringing or skin color does not qualify or disqualify you from the presidency.  You libs are desperately trying to guilt us into electing a good speech giving, inexperienced, unqualified, wayyyy left leaning politician.  I have to give you all credit for turning the "experience" issue around.  What sheep we must be to buy that it's more important for the VP nominee to be qualified for the presidency than the Pres. candidate himself!!!  Just let MSNBC and the rest of the lefties in the media lead you around by their propaganda disguised as factual reporting.

Anybody wondering why the Democratic leadership is pushing to bail out their corporate cronies??  Look at Pelosi, Frank, the rest of them, who's pocket are they in? Do a little research for yourself instead of being the media's flock people.  Liberals are as much or more in the pocket of "corporate America" as the Republicans.
Well, okay, except that all the Democrats in congress will be voting for the bailout and only a handful of Republicans will be stupid enough to do the same. MoveOn should really MoveAway.

Help me understand what part of the MoveOn ad is not true. Regardless of who puts this ad out, it is still true. So before you write critical opinions, ask yourself is it true? The readers will respect you more if you do.

The Revolution will be televised.

Obama/Biden
Two educated men again two uneducated and informed incumbents. Does anyone not see this?

Obama - two degreees. Not yet tarnished by Washington and full of ideas on how to set the country back on course. Has the personalities to create allies for America. Has the personality to get the people to listen and willing to make sacrifices that will be necessary in the coming months when Bush and his 'gang' leaves office. The man is extremely smart.

Biden - two degrees (yes, he has been in the congress for 35 years, but this must be viewed as an asset because he will show Obama 'where the bodies are buried')

McCain - third from the bottom of his class. Is against regulation until he found 'regilion' - you can't suddenly change years for being for a culture overnight. He is now for regulation because he needs to say that to get the votes.

Palin - one degree that took her 7 years to obtain. Nothing wrong with that if you are doing it part time because you cannot afford. But that was not the issue with her. Palin lacks the intellect. She had to hire a City Manager when she was Mayor - someone to oversee the budget and finance for her. She has the same support for the state. The lady has no 'depth' of understanding/knowledge.

America wake up don't let prejudice keep you from making the righ choice.
They both support the plan. You are all doing just what the government and "the man" want you to do. Nitpicking at the differences between McCain and Obama, when you should be realizing that neither one of them will solve the problems we are abaout to face. WAKE UP!
Jimmy Carter, and Bill Clinton started this mess when they began lending money for homes that could never be paid for.  When the Bush administration tried to regulate the program the idea was shot down by Barney Frank and Chris Dodd who knew all about it.  Naturally this site will not allow me to enter in the e-mail address to go to in order so you can view the real story.  Go to utube and look up burning down the house, what caused our economic crisis.  Maybe you can get educated by some real facts and not the jive the media is feeding you.

Funny to me that Republicans are at fault for this big mess with all their deregulation and being their brother's keeper of fat pockets, but when its time to help the American people and struggling homeowners after the mess THEY caused, they are so resistent.  McSame and Bush are the #1 Culprits here!  All their policies for deregulation is what got us into this mess.

McCain continues to show is true colors out in the open for all to see with his tax bill benefiting the rich!

Bush and McCain are both pathetic!  I never voted for Bush.  I saw that war in Iraq for what is was...a destraction from the real war, an invasion - not a war, and a personal vendetta!  With McCain we will have more of this same nonesense of forcing their brand of democracy on others with a barrel of a gun instead of diplomacy!!!!!!

Obama/Biden 08
Obama did have strong control over these 527 groups until McCain and his camp decided that lying was the only way they could win. Now Left lening groups such as MoveOn have decided enough is enough. I personally sent them, for the first time, $50 bucks because McCains tactics have encouraged me to spend about 3 times more money this year than any other.
this crisis started with the most worthless president of all, jimmy carter, and clinton made it worse.....it's the democrats that want to give it all away and make the united states a free for all.....that is why they are in bed with hollywood........obama stands for nothing...just like jessie jackson, no real job, just an organizer...
I like the ad it has gotten to the truth of the matter so if anyone thinks other wise then I guess since you know how to blog then you should know what google is! Try using it.
Interesting no Dems criticise MoveOn which is the sleeziest organization out there.  So much for credibility.
Both are good men and good people. McCain will not be intimidated by Obama, and Obama needs to be more about discussing real issues and not spending so much time bashing McCain. What are his ideas and how do they benefit the tax payer? Bashing is a technique used by insecure people in an attempt to discredit, mostly it is looked upon as what it is.. BS>
STOP IT!!!!!

Good lord it sounds like a bunch of kids pointing fingers and name calling. Grow up people.

If someone wants to vote McCain let them, stop calling them racist.

If someone wants to vote Obama, let them.  Stop calling them elitist.

This is getting ugly and just plain stupid.  If someone isn't voting what someone else is, they are ignorant and uneducated.

Please take the time to educate yourself on the issues at hand people and weigh in the truth of the matter so that you make the most educated vote you can for the person you think will do what is best for country and kind.

I admit that I didn't pay attention in the last two presidential elections.  I see my mistake and I am doing everything I can to correct that mistake moving forward so I don't vote for someone that is not going to do what is best of me.

Stop all the slander and name calling.  Read, educate yourself, and listen to the debates.  I think you will see who the clear winner is if you look at things from an open minded view point.
