MoveOn pins bailout on McCain, Bush

The newest in MoveOn.org's "My Friends" series - an ad campaign knocking McCain's advisers and associates - takes on the Arizona senator over his advisors' role in the dergulation leading up to the Wall Street crash.  The bill slams deregulator Phil Gramm and former Freddie/Fannie lobbyist and McCain campaign manager Rick Davis.

But the Number One "friend" targeted in the new spot is none other than George Bush, and the crime is his bailout proposal  --  which both Obama and McCain have guardedly endorsed.

*** UPDATE *** RNC spokesman Alex Conant sent on this response when the ad was first unveiled last week: "“Barack Obama’s liberal allies are launching a partisan attack at the precise moment we should be putting politics aside and working to solve the problem. These sorts of false attacks by special interest groups are part of what’s wrong with Washington.”

"John McCain's friend George Bush wants hard-working Americans to write the biggest blank check in history," says the ad's narrator.

Both presidential candidates urged for the bill's passage over the weekend, offering measured support for the compromise legislation reached on the Hill early Sunday morning.

Calling the bailout bill "outrageous," the ad concludes that "Americans shouldn't have to foot the bill for mistakes John McCain and his friends made."

Also among the flurry of ads hitting TV and radio airwaves today is a McCain-Palin response to Obama's accusation - almost uniformly characterized as misleading by fact-checkers - that McCain opposes stem cell research. "John McCain and his Congressional allies fought FOR stem cell research.  They stood up and said stem cell research was too important for you and your family," says the narrator of a new radio ad running in swing states' urban centers.

John McCain has voiced support for stem cell research, to the dismay of some religious conservatives in his party, but running mate Palin opposes it.

Move On is fighting yesterday's battle. This vote on the hill effectively changes the American financial landscape. Bush's legacy will be sealed and this is a time of reckoning.
"And this is what the american voter is redusced to.  Ignorate moron's that cant even take 90 minutes out of their pathetic lives in order to make a better informed choice for their future.  Just come out and say it, moron, you're a racist, you're an idiot and you are a pathetic excuce for a citizen."

As you proved, DV from CA, there are bigoted unintelligent voters on both sides.
As far as the republicans are concerned, it is OK for them to lie about Obama's policies as well as his character, but Obama is not allowed to tell the truth about Mccain's policies if it comes across negative.

Sorry... we the American people, have had enough of republicans, their lies, their fearmongering, and their greed.
if bushie wanted this bill passed , he should have come out against it . it would have passed easily . the hell with a bailout i'll take my chances . i don't believe one congressman in office. you want to save me, send me a check for 2300.00. is it an election year or has someone got a conscience. who are these scalawags running the country , get your hand ouy of my pocket and the lobbyists hands out of yours.you ran this country into the ground and now you want to hurry up and fix it by fixing wall st.i don't need a car loan a student loan or a home loan now leave me alone.
First Read, you may be mischaraterizing the ad. I watched it and it slams W's "blank check" bailout. Bush called for handing over the total lump sum with no questions asked and "requiring" no oversight. The bailout that Obama and the Democrats are supporting is one that is very different with controls, oversight, contingent payments, and relief for Americans besides Wall Street firms.  Try to be more nuanced.
Are you media types part of the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde club or what? You flip-flop around on your point of views more than BOTH candidates put together, honestly.

I just wish one of ya'll opted to tell the truth and nothing but. Sadly, I think that DIED with Tim Russert. What a shame.

I understand it isn't easy to tell only the truth; candidates put many points, issues and (sadly) lies together, making it much harder to clearly say "true or false" or "black or white". Often, it's all a shade of gray.

But AT LEAST TRY. If you have an opinion, state it as an opinion, backed up with real facts. If you are discussing real events, issues or voting records, state exactly what IS and ISN'T true or false.

It's the least that the media should be doing.

But, in my OPINION, the ad above does one thing I really like: it shows McCain's true friends... because I've been saying since day one:

John, I am NOT your friend.
to the Floridian who said Obama is "just too stupid," - compared to whom?  He is the most educated in the group.  You can have your opinion about a person but call him stupid?  If you don't like the man come up with a derogatory remark more sensible than stupid.
You need to get out of the sun as it is destroying what little brain cells you have left.
Trust me, this Floridian does not speak for the majority of us Floridians.
In 2000 McCain was against stem cell research. In 2003 he said he changed his mind after talking to Nancy Reagan and "some very smart people". So it is not accurate to say he IS against it but he WAS against it and Sarah Palin still IS.
Chuck, stand up Chuck. Let'm see ya.
Maybe moveon.org should realize it WAS the left wing that caused this mess:

So, while they ignore their own guy is FOR the buy out and is also responible for it in the first place... the rest of us will deal with reality.
Nah debbie in upstate ny , what we don't want to do is have someone that will mouth the pelosi/reid/barney frank gospel as presient
