McCain just three days ago...

From NBC's Mark Murray
Here was McCain's opening line at Friday's debate (the emphasis is mine): "I've been not feeling too great about a lot of things lately. So have a lot of Americans who are facing challenges. But I'm feeling a little better tonight, and I'll tell you why. Because as we're here tonight in this debate, we are seeing, for the first time in a long time, Republicans and Democrats together, sitting down, trying to work out a solution to this fiscal crisis that we're in."

"And have no doubt about the magnitude of this crisis. And we're not talking about failure of institutions on Wall Street. We're talking about failures on Main Street, and people who will lose their jobs, and their credits, and their homes, if we don't fix the greatest fiscal crisis, probably in -- certainly in our time, and I've been around a little while. But the point is -- the point is, we have finally seen Republicans and Democrats sitting down and negotiating together and coming up with a package."

Video: House Republican Leader John Boehner tells reporters he thinks the bailout bill could have passed today, had it not been for partisan comments by House Speaker Pelosi.

*** UPDATE ***
The McCain campaign is blaming Nancy Pelosi -- and Obama by extension -- for the vote's failure in the House. “Just before the vote, when the outcome was still in doubt, Speaker Pelosi gave a strongly worded partisan speech and poisoned the outcome," said McCain economic adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin. “This bill failed because Barack Obama and the Democrats put politics ahead of country.”

ONCE AGAIN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY LET'S DOWN AMERICA. IT WAY,WAY PAST TIME TO THROW THEM "ALL" OUT OF OFFICE. REGISTER TO VOTE "TODAY", IF YOU ARE NOT REGISTERED. OR DO NOT "COMPLAIN" !
What else happened between Friday and today First Read? The Democratic leadership took a 3 page bill submitted by Bush, loaded it up with all sorts of junk, turned into a 100+ page piece of crap, and saw it voted down by the sane people in the House of Reps. And now you're trying to hang this on McCain? Laughable.
Thank heavens McCain interjected himself!!

...Where would be without him??
McCain picked the wrong coat tails to ride this time.  Let's see how his supporters here spin it, shall we?  *Gets popcorn and watches the show*
So much for that. Maybe a pedantic point but the New Yorker points out that McCain does not know the difference between a fiscal and a financial crisis.
I knew Pelosi would screw this up. And Obama voted with Pelosi on 95% of her legislation. Do you want 4 more years of Pelosi politics America?
Obama's fault? One wonders at what point McCain's nose will grow so long that it simply falls off.
I certainly hope he gets blasted for this.  He has been claiming credit for solving this thing and he did no good.  His party doesn't care where he stands.
That's right folks... point fingers.  That's really gonna help us all out right now.

http://thepajamapundit.com/
This is stupid, so they are basically saying that these grown *** people changed their mind b/c they were mad at what she said, nevermind the fate of the American people. Seriously, that is the argument they are going with?
This is absolutely RIDICULOUS!! We can only hope that these tactics backfire on McCain.
Pelosi, Reid and Obama failed to bring all their sheep to the vote. That was supposed to be a slam dunk that they could deliver WITHOUT the repubs but Pelosi said house repubs needed in vote so Dems wouldn't be blamed for the fallout if bailout didn't solve problem. Well, Nancy, why didn't ALL  your dems vote with you?
Mark Murray-
You never cease to amaze me. How about a little UNBIASED reporting, seeing as how you aren't employed by a partisan group...oh, my bad!

Obama, Just Three Days Ago...
It is unfortunate that Pelosi gave a partisan speech at the wrong time. But if Republicans who were planning on voting for the bill didn't for this PETTY, PARTISAN reason, they are the ones putting politics before country. I think everyone who didn't vote for it because they were cowed by their constituencies suck. As a leader, you're supposed to convey why one has to the right thing albeit burdensome in the short term. And why is everyone fleeing to the airport already?
our great bipartisan leadership, alive and well today.

Isn't that John McCain a RIOT.  I mean he is so funny, I almost forget which team he's been in lockstep with for the past 26+ years.

not quite, though - he is a Repbulican, tried and true.  He may have been different pre - 2000; but he is Bush's twin now - and that's what I will forever remember in the election booth.
I suppose it's Obama's fault when hurricanes hit too through "extension" too right?  unbelievable, throw these republican bums out of washington
They hurt our feelings.....wha....who cares of the market crashes....THEY HURT OUR FEELINGS!

Way to lead, McCain! I'll be sure to name my empty retirement account after you.
Hmmmm . . . 60% of the House Democrats voted for the bill and 70% of the House Republicans voted against it.  And it's the Democrats fault that it didn't pass?
Pelosi couldn't even hold nearly half of the members of her own party in line for the vote. Today Nancy Pelosi just saw her role as Speaker of the House end. Either the country will wake up and vote in a Republican majority, or she'll be voted out in January to get a more moderate and less partisan Speaker in the chair.
so it's the democrat's fault the bill failed because democrats supported it and the republicans didn't. yeah, okay, that makes sense. seriously, who is dumb enough to buy this garbage?
Nancy Pelosi is poison...how do we expect these people to bail us out when they can't accomplish
the easy stuff? Really...

Nancy Pelosi Just Three Days Ago...
That's ridiculous!  This whole "country first crap!"  even tho I am not fond of Nancy, she was right!  Besides, it looks to me like the republicans were finding any excuse to vote against it.  McCain....I dont the 2000 version of you would vote for you.  You lie and mislead almost every chance you get at this point.  Go away!

Obama Biden 08'
on the 'update' - Main Street should have the right to have every questionable variable rate loan reviewed as a contingency of this bailout.

They were swindled and they should be protected.  Pure and simple!
The Bill failed because of John McCain's Failed leadership... CASE CLOSED.
McCain is blaming this on Pelosi and Obama?  Pelosi was just telling it like it is.  Apparently, Republicans can't handle the truth!
The bill failed because the House Republicans didn't put country first when voting on the bill.  This is a horrible and ignorant way to take a shot at Obama.  What happened to McCain riding into Washington to save the day?  Obviously, that didn't happen.  The McCain campaign is increasingly desperate if they are resorting to this!
A "strongly worded partisan speech", what a bunch of ninnys.  How thin skinned can you get.

Republicans 2008 -- Putting our thin skins ahead of country.
really....partisan politics???  Right now this country is on the brink of economic ruin and both parties have put politics and getting reelected over the better interests of the American people.  Hey McCain, Pelosi, if you are not part of the solution you are the problem.  Stop your blubbering and start doing your job.

And all the rest of you, it would really help if you took a little time to educate yourselves on what is really going on in the economy.  This is not just wall streets problem, this is our problem.  The wall street guys probably have $$s set aside to get through another depression.  Do you???
See America, you trusted the Democrats. You trusted them when they said they'd represent you. You trusted them when they said they'd get something done for the American people. You trusted them so much, you gave them a majority in both houses for congress. See what that got you America. Nothing!
i am always amazed at how the good ol' lying gop and their masters of the universe and masters of the shell game con, can turn any word or situation into a negative attack on the sen. obama and the democrats. the poor gop attack machine finds itself between a rock and a hard place; after campaigning on "no communist, no socialist, nobama," they found themselves in the extreme situation of either letting the economy completely beak down affecting more severely the people on main street than wall street or voting to what many have called a "socialist" government owned rescue plan.
Pelosi lied all through the weekend, saying that she had a deal. Some deal.
John "Campaign First" McCain just doesn't know how to own his failures, does he? Well, he and the rest of his party can start doing so on November 5.
For the FIRST TIME?  Oh, I thought there were all those reach-across the aisle moments where Sen. McCain and the other party got things done. Guess not.

I don't agree, but interesting that PELOSI is more influential on how the rebellious Republicans vote
than BOEHNER. Time for new LEADERSHIP?
we wouldn't be here if it were not for the Bush Administration and his republican cronies in Washington - Shut up McBush!!
Why do I smell partisan Republican politics here? This bill has been worked on for more than a week now and was supposedly headed for a vote where it would pass by a majority vote. Than today 60% of the Dems vote yay and 60% of the Repubs vote nay. The Republican leadership now acts surprised by how their people voted and blames the speaker of house for hurting their feelings. WTF!
I've watched this process closely and things seem to be moving forward then something happens suddenly the Republicans jump out of the bushes crying bad bill, bad bill. In between incidents the Repubs have been virtually invisible and allowing bills to move forward to the point of being voted on.
Just watch the Republican leaders and their post vote comments at their surprise at how their own people ended up voting today. Please remember that this bill originated from the Republican side(Bush, Paulson,Cox, Bernake, etc.) and was supposedly being fashioned into a compromise bill with help from both sides and at the moment of truth only 30% of the Republicans voted yay. This was no planned attempt to allow for a market correction rather politics as usual!
Shhhh. Be very, very quiet. Democrats are hard at work for all Americans. We don't want to wake them.
Hmmm, the Republicans say the Dems ruined this when Dem Yes votes outnumbered Republican Yes votes 2-1?
Morris T. Morris, do you honestly think that the original 2 1/2 pages of a poorly written poorly thought-out piece of a 7th-grader's essay dreamed up by the moronic Paulson was sufficient to get the job done. Welcome to the idiots club, buddy.
Go Nancy Go! And Don't Come Back!

****

LOL....go look at the rolls, dork. Then you will see how dumb you sound.
McCain can spin all he wants.  But Americans are not buying it.  70% of the republicans voted against the bill.  Throw the bumbs out.
So basically McCain is saying that Republicans voted against the bill they believe would save the economy to get even with Pelosi for her partisan words?

And I guess he sees this as Republicans putting country first?

This is so stupid, it pegs the needle on stupid stuff even politics makes you say.

But I guess McCain has to say something. After all, he says he came back to Washington to get this thing passed... I guess a collossal failure doesn't add much to a presidential resume.
Nancy Pelosi has the right to say whatever she wants on the House floor. She's earned her place there like anyone else. If the Republicans are so delicate in constitution and conviction on behalf of the American people, they are the ones who should be shown the door.

Seriously? I'm supposed to believe that one speech, typcial of any speech in that situation, is supposed to have made grown men cave in their support when the financial stakes are so high?  Spare me.

Because we should have so much faith in a bill worth $700 billion, that is only 3 pages long.........oh did i mention that the Bush administration wrote it?
I knew Pelosi would screw this up. And Obama voted with Pelosi on 95% of her legislation. Do you want 4 more years of Pelosi politics America?
American Voter
**************************************************
 YES
Nice....once again the Republican party demonstrated its absolute disdain of doing the right thing for the country.  This bill was crafted basically by the BUSH REPUBLICANS!!  Over 60 percent of the House Democrats voted for the bill, even though it was not all that they wanted, because they KNEW that the US economy depended upon its passage.  John McCain as the supposed leader of the Republicans couldn't deliver on the Republican pledge of getting 50% of the votes needed to pass this bill.  That's not what I want as my President, and any thinking American will realize this as well.  Eight years of Republican deregulation of corporations has brought us to the brink of financial ruin, not to mention earning us the loathing of most of the rest of the world.  Way to go Republicans.  Fiscal conservatives??  HAH!!
Go Nancy Go :

Maybe your math is part of the reason this whole thing failed.  199 Repubs and only 65 vote yes?  That's less than 35% of Republicans, while 140 Dems comes out to 59.9%

Thanks for playing though
I love how the McCain camp says that barack is not putting country first because the republicans did not vote for this due to a speech pelosi gave. When you vote against a bill because of a speech you did not like, I am sorry, that is n
ot putting country first but it is politics as usual. way to go repubs and mccain!
What did the Republicans vote on ? Pelosi's speech or the $700Billion ??? Are the Repubs really all such drama queens like McCain ?
Obama was right to, as McCain so elloquiently said, to stay on the sidelines instead of inject politics into this mess like McCain did.
I believe the latest response from the McCain camp on this ongoing financial crisis, is frankly making McCain and his entire outfit, look NUTS!!!
