How will MO blue-collar voters break?

From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro
ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Polls have shifted over the last couple of weeks -- with the economy in focus and in crisis -- to Obama-Biden. But if the Democratic ticket has a chance here in Missouri, then it will likely come down to working-class, Republican-leaning voters.

In 2000 and 2004, Bush won Missouri -- a state that has predicted the president in all but one election since 1960. But recent public polling indicates Obama has moved into a virtual tie in the Show-Me State.

For Obama to win it, though, he is going to have to “show” something to those blue-collar Bush voters, some of whom appear open to voting for him.

A focus group of working-class Missouri voters conducted Thursday by pollster Peter Hart (the Democratic part of the NBC/Wall Street Journal poll) was evidence of that.

The participants ranged in age from 25 to 68. There were five Obama voters, three McCain voters and four who identified themselves as undecided -- though at least two of those leaned more heavily to McCain.

The four undecideds all voted for Bush in the past two elections, but are open to voting for Obama, they said, because of lingering questions regarding McCain’s personality, temperament and his campaign conduct in the past two weeks.

“I think he’s flailing,” said Jean Geitz, a 60-year-old self-described “bug lady” from Fenton, Mo. Geitz is an office manager for a local pest control company.

“I don’t think either one is the total package,” said Tom Coates, a 47-year-old construction worker from Brentwood. He described Obama as “a thinker” and McCain as “more knee jerk” -- though he said he admires McCain’s life story and “just likes the guy.”

National security looms large for Coates and he gives the advantage to McCain on the subject.

“Our enemies will fear us and continue to fear us” with McCain, he said. “It scares me that someone softer could get in.” He cited his three daughters who he doesn’t want “to live in fear.”

But Coates, who has a Republican father and Democratic brother equally in his ear, said though national security was important to him, equally important were manufacturing jobs and health care for his parents -- something he said he feels Obama is perhaps more likely to make attainable.

“If he [Obama] could guarantee something on health care-- my parents are older,” Coates said. “My parents are very important to me.”

It perhaps explains the Obama campaign’s round of Midwest health-care ads, painting the Illinois senator’s plan as a centrist one, which rejects both extremes.

Coates also said he’s not quite locked in for McCain because of his age and his “distance from modern technology issues.” He added that initially Palin moved him toward McCain, but “she said some ridiculous things to Katie Couric. ‘I’ll get back to you?’” he said, incredulously.

Chris Spitzer, 44, said Obama’s experience level “concerns” him, but he views him as a “Martin Luther King type” and likes how positively other countries view him.

“I don’t like how other countries view us right now,” Spitzer said. But he warned, that the U.S. can’t negotiate with countries that are run by terrorists or support terrorism.

That doesn’t mean he’s necessarily sealed for McCain.

“His temper concerns me,” Spitzer said of McCain. Being a “maverick could be bad,” he added, particularly when it comes to negotiating with other countries. “I could see him getting mad in a meeting…. that concerns me. … Maybe it’s better to have something fresh, new.”

Coates and Tim Wohlschlaeger, 44, a tool and die shop designer, said they were likely voting for McCain before his campaign “suspension.” They still lean that way, but they seemed perplexed by the tactic and are now reconsidering.

Rather than suspend, Wohlschlaeger said, McCain should have “taken care of business.” By contrast, he said, Obama was “respectful” and understood he wasn’t a “one-man band” on the bailout. “But I wish they would have talked to each other and done it together.”

Coates made an appeal to common sense.

“If you say you’re going to do something, you have to do it,” Coates said.

Spitzer, who gave McCain credit for “suspending” his campaign, saying it showed leadership, also was critical of what he saw as a lack of follow through. He said it made McCain look like a “waffler” and agreed with an Obama voter in the group who said the move was a “publicity stunt.”

Geitz, who stressed family and moral values, said she is “totally up in the air. And I’m not usually.” She likes Obama’s “quiet, calm demeanor,” that he is a “family man” and has a service background. But she is thinks his “lesser experience” could be a hindrance, particularly when it comes to national security. But she described Palin as “scary” and said that their running mates matter.

In fact, the group had mixed opinions of Palin. Most said they liked her initially because of her “blue-collar” roots. But her round of media interviews cast a pall of doubt. And when asked to stand up to show who they’d vote for if it were between Biden and Palin, Biden won 8-4.

Of McCain, Geitz said his “age” and “temperament make me uncertain.” In fact, everyone unprompted, made the point of McCain’s age and temperament, including those solidly voting for McCain.

Susan Pickering, a 46-year-old, Fox News-watching staunch Republican homemaker and McCain defender, even said, “What makes me nervous about him, he can go off half-cocked occasionally. Anyone stuck in a room for five years, uh, I don’t know.”

These voters had qualms with Obama, too. They had praise on personality for Obama, particularly in his “calm” through the past two weeks. But they used the word “inexperienced” as his biggest detractor. No one mentioned, in the more than two-hour session, taxes as problematic for Obama. And no one mentioned the words elitist or arrogant in describing his demeanor.

Hart suggested, as others have, that “Obama’s inexperience is a lot of other stuff churning in the system.”

Race is a factor. Five in the group admitted it will negatively affect Obama. Most cited neighbors or others who might not vote for Obama because he is black -- though none said so themselves.

“They know there’s a racial issue,” Hart said, “and when they face it, it’s going to be one way or another.”

NOTES: Other takeaways… Dick Cheney is absolutely toxic. Even those who voted for Bush were vitriolic in their criticism, calling him “maniacal” and “obsessive.” None wanted him as their boss. Well, one said, for how much, but then gave it a second thought. None of these voters had nice things to say about Nancy Pelosi either. …Bush was called “patriotic” and “a good American” by some, but also labeled a “disappointment” by a Bush voter.

We're sitting here waiting for the 9:30 Red Sox/Angels game and we're watching Countdown w/Keith Olbermann. Boy his show is so insightful. It is so obvious that a lot of work and research is put into his program by his producer and researchers.

What this tells us is the tremendous amount of respect Keith must have for his audience; he obviously understands his responsbility in getting it right, despite what we hear all day long from the right wing.

He has been the glue that has held us, the anti-right wing citizens together as we inch closer to November.

Some people believe the election in 11/06 gave us our voice, gave us our strength to fight back hard against all odds with the vast right wing talking points media. A media which is blasted throughout the country 24/, especially on the radio.

I beg to differ. I don't think it was the election in 2006 that made us dig in; I think it was the road Keith paved for us all, beginning well before the 2006 election, with not only his commentary, but his top notch guests as well.
Man. How can anyone be bothered by "inexperience" and not just cringe at Simple Sarah.

Missouri - I hope they don't confuse McCain for a  Truman.

I can just see President Palin meeting MacAurther on Wake Island - in a cheerleader uniform and pom-poms.

The repubs are brilliant at finding people to make predecessors look good: Bush makes Nixon look good, McCain would certainly make Bush look good, Palin would make us long for either Cheney or Quayle - even Agnew.

Sarah Palin for VP is the scariest thing I've ever seen in US politics.
Wake-up Missouri. We are the show me state. The Republicans have shown you what they will do. At least with Senator Barack Obama we have a 50/50 chance it will get better. You know with Senator Obama, who happens to be an African American, the glaring spotlight will shine on him and his administration. In areas of intelligence, power and political clout, the person of color usually has to be better than their opponent to be considered. You know that I am right.
LIKE EVERYONE THEY WILL VOTE MC CAIN PALIN, MCCAIN WILL DEVIEN HIM FOR WHAT HE IS IN THE NEXT TWO DEBATES, HIS CALLING OUR TROOPS KILLERS OF BABIES, NOT FUNDING THEM, FRIENDS OF A TERROSIST, AND ON AND ON=ONLY AN IDIOT WOULD VOTE FOR HIM LIKE HARDBALL, OPPS I MEAN T BALL LOL
OMG.... wow...  ummmm... wow.  You see the problem is too many Americans make up their mind before the candidates are even named. "I'm voting Republican" no matter what.  The Republicans trot out a crazy, knee-jerk "maverick", and a VP candidate so horribly unqualified it's scary, and the voters try to find ways of justifying their decision, instead of looking at the hard facts.  Obama may be less experienced, but that point is nullified by his vision for the country, his calmness under fire, his heart to really help the average american dig themselves out of the hole that has been created.  To think that Americans will vote in a Republican ticket, after the 8 years you went through with Republican policies, with the VERY shady Republican McCain and Palin, who offer up no concrete plans on how they will help the average American, when you have the choice to vote for a thoughtful, intelligent, hard-working, calm guy like Obama, and his intelligent, thoughtful, extremely experienced running mate Biden, is beyond scary.  STOP voting out of stubborness and pride, and look at the policies, plans, demeanor, thoughtfulness, and track records of the parties involved.  Somehow Republicans have managed to convince the American public as the "wholesome" party, with a "higher" moral ground.  Look at the candidates, and tell me which ones better fit this bill...  wow... I can not imagine how any one single person could vote for McCain/Palin.  I can't.  I'd like to talk to them, and see why they possibly could, with a clear conscience.   Well, good luck on November 4th.

-A concerned Canadian
Come on Missouri. Know you are intelligent people
and know you cannot be happy with our country as
it is today. Mccain and the republican policies
have almost destroyed our country and made
victims of our children and grandchildren for
decades to come.
Show us you are intelligent voters also by
voting for Obama/Biden.
It is our only chance for survivial.
Palin lied about McCain's record last night, not Biden.

McCain voted against it before he voted for it.  Flippity Flopity.

On March 29, 2007, McCain himself voted against H.R. 1591, an emergency spending bill that would have funded the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and would have provided more than $1 billion in additional funds to the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Senate passed H.R. 1591 by a margin of 51-47. Once the bill's conference report was agreed to by the House, the Senate again passed the measure on April 26, 2007, by a vote of 51-46. McCain did not vote on the final bill. By contrast, Obama voted for it on both occasions.
My favorite part of the debate was when Sarah Palin pointed out that Barack Obama's plan for Iraq is to put up the white flag of surrender. Why doesn't Barack Obama understand that if you tell the Iraqi's we are pulling out in sixteen months, all Al Quaeda in Iraq has to do is sit back and wait sixteen months for us to leave.
We are Missourians and let me enlighten the rest of your readers. Our voter registration efforts are going gangbusters. And just on my street for 2 blocks there are 4 times as many Obama/Biden yard signs than McCain/Palin signs...and we're in one of the most conservative 'burbs in this state. So let me introduce you to our next President: Barack Obama.
Get used to it. And get ready for REAL change.

The Garrett Family, Lee's Summit, Missouri
FYI: I'm the daughter of a career Marine and a small business owner, and my husband is a Firefighter and his second job is as an ER nurse. We're both in our 30s and we have 2 kids.
And one more thing: All of you die hard McCain supporters who have never considered Barack Obama objectively and who voted for Bush twice, YOU OWE ME a $700 BILLION DOLLAR apology!

You can make it by at least trying to inform yourself on the ISSUES at hand and not on your own, personal social or religious bias.

GET INFORMED then VOTE
Please, for the sake of the nation, don't let race be the determining factor when electing our next president. Pretend McCain and Obama are both your favorite color, weight all other issues that are importion to you, then vote your own mind. Think outside the box, dare to be different, do what you know to be right. Don't be embarrassed, nobody but you will know who you voted for.
People voted for Bush because he was a "nice guy", he was folksy with leaders of other countries and then stabbed them in back right when he needed them most. He's a "gut" decision man as is McCain. They both remind me of high school boys who have never got over getting away with bad behavior because "boys will be boys." I don't want a president or VP who acts on hunches, feelings, and anger. I want intellegence, reason, calm and forceful yet able to negotiate from their own inner strength not like a bully. That is why I am convinced that Barack and Biden are the best team. And after the VP debate I am more convinced. With Barack wanting Joe as the strong person he is as a true partner, I can see no other choice. Beyond the votes she might garner from the far right there is nothing I see that tells me she is ready to be the sort of VP that Biden could be. I'm a 65 yo white male. Get over the race issue. Barack is an individual. Heck, if I rejected all white politicians because of some of those whites I've met, worked with, lived with, been physically beaten by, seen do drugs, cheat the government, lie in political ads, I'd never vote for anyone.
It appears that McCain/ Palin presidency would dupe the people if Sarah assume the position.

Source: Anchorage Daily News
Gregg Erickson, columnist for the Anchorage Daily News said that Todd Palin "obviously plays an important role ... I've seen him in the governor's office, and I know she's conducted interviews in the governor's office with him present." Palin is copied on e-mails dealing with official state business. He helped write the state budget, has been involved in personnel matters, and has called lawmakers when he or his wife have disagreed with what they have done.

Here is something on video that should encourage everyone leaning Obama.
Lying Republicans will do anything to maintain power. This country does not need a John McCain who gets dazed, confused, and lead off stage.
wonkette.com/403185/mccain-gets-lost-on-campaign-stage

There has been discussion McCain may have suffered a TIA (mini-stroke) or senior moment. Whit all the lies and stress of the campaign, I wouldn’t be surprised. McCain can’t keep up with Obama. McCain should have his medical records opened to the public instead of letting them just be glossed over.  A public servant works in earnest for the people.
A McCain/Palin Whitehouse is really scary.

I don’t want a lying, Republican demented, ole man, a lying, Republican cheese-cake, or former AIP party secessionist member Todd Palin running my country. I need more than a wink and a nod.

No way
Nobody but Obama/Biden

If Cheney is so "toxic" why isn't the Obama campaign rolling out ads pertaining to Palin's warped views on the powers of his office?
Wohlschlaeger said “But I wish they would have talked to each other and done it together.”

During the morning, Obama called McCain and suggested they make a joint statement.

Later in the day, McCain returned the call.  While they were working on the details of the agreed upon announcement, McCain ran on stage and announced he was suspending his campaign.

Typical of McCain, he always tries to come in late and take the credit.  This time it backfired and everyone knows it.

This has been reported by every major news network excluding Fox News.
I liked this information a lot, very interesting.  I know a lot of people like this, they seem to like Obama but something is holding them back.  For most of them it's the experience thing which is why I think he needs to campaign with Biden more.  Most people who seem to like McCain say they don't feel comfortable with his temper.  I mean, we've already had a "cowboy" style president, is a "maverick" really all that different (or more importantly) all that good for the country?  For me, I've decided to vote for Obama.
Missouri's not going to be the state to put Obama over the top. That'll probably be Colorado or Virginia. Or Florida if things firm up for him down there. But I think in the end Missouri will vote for Obama. He's shown over these last months that he's stable and the safe candidate. McCain hasn't exploded the way he has in the past, but he's beginning to get very frustrated and it looks like just a matter of time.
John McCain on the prospect for success in Iraq, he kept insisting: "We've succeeded. I'm happy to tell you we've succeeded. ... We have succeeded in Iraq. The strategy has succeeded. ... So we have succeeded and we're winning."

As some one who really wanted to vote for McCain at the beginning, a current military member and a conservative independent I think these people are a good micro snap shot of the white working class view in conservative leaning states like my home state of Michigan. One thing Michiganders are taught in civics classes throughout the states is to vote  for the person who will actually get things done. This is why a state with many more democrats have voted republicans for governer more times than not. By my states teaching  that person is Barack Obama. They have essentially have decided that taken everything into context Obama-Biden would just get things  done for the common person. You and Me.

Ask yourself this question" Who has more pressure on him to be the best President? McCain or the guy who almost literally would have the whole world watching him, waiting for him to fail?"

For the life of me, I cannot understand why anyone in the right mind would even consider voting for the Wrinkly/Winky ticket.  They do nothing BUT LIE!!  And the animal abuser air-head wants MORE POWER as VP than DICK CHENEY!!!!

We need to put Wrinkley out to pasture, and we need to send Winky back up to the tundra so she can serve out her one and only term as Governor and fry herself on her freaking tanning bed.

PEOPLE, IF THIS TICKET DOESN'T SCARE THE HELL OUT OF YOU THEN YOU ARE NOT PAYING ATTENTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
McCain will tax employer paid health insurance.  This will encourage employers to abandon providing health insurance and cast many of us into the marketplace to buy our own insurance.  Bye-bye group rates, and a $5,000 tax credit won't go far for a family policy.  McCain's chief economic advisor was Phil Gramm.  Phil Gramm is behind alot of the deregulation that led to the $700 billion bail-out.  McCain himself is a life-long deregulator.  Deregulate Wall Street, and they run amok and leave the taxpayers holding the bag.  C'mon, Missouri, go Blue!
Best thing to ask blue collar workers:
Do you want to pay lower taxes or keep your job?

You know that McCain's mantra will be "Dems will raise your taxes" (like blue collar workers make over $250K)  Hopefully the threat of loosing their jobs to pay for the fat cats' salaries will make them stop and think. Please !
Well, I am from ST LOUIS MO, and I am voting for Obama! It is more Obama voters here, than Mcfalin.
Mcfalin, is just false eyelashes, and Bullsh*t. She is a empty head, she has NO substance. ST LOUIS FOR OBAMA/BIDEN 2008
Right...because 5 is a valid sample size that is representative of the Missouri blue-collar electorate.

HA
Being a 42 year old female voter from Missouri....I am appauled that McCain is running such a dirty campaign.  I expected more from this "great war hero"....shame on you John McCain.  I am furthermore disgusted with his pick of Sarah Palin.  She is an embarrassment to not only professional women, but all women in general.  I do not consider myself some "red-neck, oh-golly-gee-weez, ya betcha, wink-wink, jane six-pack, soccor mom.  Who is she talking to???  I am so offended by her "I'm a good ol'girl" to her "I'm a cute sex-pot" attitude.  I might have voted for McCain, but that pick sent me running right to Obama/Biden.  Of all the smart, articulate speaking, able to put together a complete sentence Republican women....he picked Palin????  What... was he having a "senior moment"??  So come on Missouri voters....that man is out of control....reckless....does not think things through..(as evidence of his campaign suspension....that one backfired)...acts on impulse....and that is just NOT what our country needs right now.  We need a level headed...make a REAL CHANGE....kind of President...not more of the same.  McCain didn't even think the economy (or job loss as he is now saying that was what he meant) were bad.  What rock has he been under???  Enough Missouri....stand up...stand up for the middle class.  John McCain owns several houses and 13 cars...he has NO IDEA what it means to be a middle class worker.  For those of you that don't understand Obama's plans...he is running an hour long ad on cable/dish TV that tells about who he is, where he came from, and what his vison's are for this great country.  So don't just listen to the lies that the McCain ads and their speeches spew out...go read for yourself...inform yourself...don't rely on them to tell you what the "other guy" is going to do.  That's how I finally decided.  Enough of the "he said..she said" crap....go read about their voting records and their plans YOURSELF!!  Oh and for those of you having a problem with race....get over it!!  The White House is not going to turn into a bunch of "rappin-gang-bangers".  And not to leave out...the war.  Obama will end the war in Iraq and then we can go after the 'real' bad guys....you remember...the ones that came here and terrorized us.  Our men and women should not have to keep dying for the religous war in Iraq.  It needs to stop....sooner rather then later.  So please Missouri voters...let's make a "REAL CHANGE"  not more of the same.                  Vote Obama/Biden
People listen to Obama what he says he will do, who he is going to work for. Listen to McCain who he will give tax credit to, the stuoid idea on his healthcare issue, how he wants to keep our soldiers in Iraq spending 10 billion dollars a month over there instead of here, then he vote agains the GI Bill to give them benefits when they return home, he wants war with Russia, Iran, a VP that has no experience what so ever in our Foreign affairs, nor economy, his temperament and judgement have to be questioned, he voted for bailout that has earmarks when he says he is against them, when can we trust MCBUSH or Palin? Obama/Biden 08
Did those voters who found Cheney so toxic comment on Sarah Palin's wanting to expand the office of the VP beyond what Cheney has done, and her being happy in her belief that the constitution gives the office such wide ranging powers.
I am from Missouri and I can now tell you that what Missouri Blue Collar workers want to hear is - tax breaks on the Middle Class - Just come out and tell us how much we can expect to get. Voters will always go for what they can put back in their pocket. We aren't call the "Show ME" state for nothing. I will be voting for Obama - McSame is what we will get and most of us already taken a nose dive or are going to soon. Obama needs to tell us 'HELP WILL BE ON ITS WAY" WITH HONEST TALK - If it is going to take awhile tell us - we can work with honesty - not idle promises@
folks, do your homework.  check out the candidates records, observe their behaviors, note their responses.  be an informed voter.  this election is too important to not be thorough.  don't be a single issue voter; remember, when you vote single issues you still get the whole package.  after much research and mulling over i firmly believe that obama-biden is the right and best choice that i can make.  i may not know all that i'm getting, but i can change that in 4 years if i have to do so.  with mccain-palin i know more of what i'm getting, and i can't in good conscience cast that vote.b
Missouri is like New Hampshire. I don't understand why they vote the way they do. But they seem to be barometers of the opinion of the country despite going against conventional wisdom. I've never been able to figure that out. Are they in a bubble? Are they isolated from the bigger issues? Are they more attune to the bigger issues? I can't tell.

I'm not going to declare a bias here though you can probably guess where my loyalty is. I just wonder who will be the best advocate for American values in the future. Who will best represent America in the world arena for the next four years. Which candidate is set to address the current economic problems? Which Candidate do you want to address foreign leaders? What experience do you think is qualified for Commander-in-Chief? Which candidate's second-in-command do you want addressing the previous questions? Honestly. Step back and take a good look at the candidates.

Don't think with your feelings. You know how this should go. I want you to vote. But I want you to vote objectively.
Good focus group.  As an obsessed follower of this year's (and past year's) campaigns.  I've watched Missouri sort of take a back-seat as a battleground state, and have had my pride hurt a little bit by its loss as a bellweather, also.  The only little bit of original commentary I'd like to offer here is that this state is just a bit more purple this year than most commentators (or very puzzlingly, polls) rate it. Youth turnout is going to be through the roof this year.  I wouldn't exactly call myself neutral in this campaign.  I'm a firm backer of Obama, but I will say that with running two small businesses I haven't had much volunteer time to spend this year. So I really haven't spent much time urging friends to register to vote, etc. Nevertheless as many as two dozen long-time associates of mine have registered to vote this year for the first time ever. Really very non-political and typically cynical (for lack of a better term) youths. They are SWORN to vote this November for the first time ever. Also, and this is a trend that has solidified just since the economic meltdown, the working-class residents of my South St. Louis County neighborhood have been breaking for Obama like waves against the shore.
Lastly, and this is in case one of my heros Chuck Todd should happen to read this comment.  Toddster, in the Western part of the state its typically Missour-ah.  Here in the Eastern part of the state we stick with Missour-ee almost exclusively. Columbia and Jeff City are where the two terms really kind of start to "either-or" on you. But aside from that everything else you've ever said is absolutely brilliant. Hahahahaha.
This is a bit off-topic, but I am seeing something that is disturbing to me.  Has anyone else noticed that ALL of the FEMALE spokespersons for McCain are of the so-called "Classic NORDIC" features??? Most, if not all of them are BLONDE with BRIGHT blue eyes. Or BRUNETTE with blue eyes!  I am not saying that McCain is running a PREDJUDICED campaign(sp?), just making an observation. Also, has anyone else noticed that everyone associated w/McCain's camp smiles WAY tooooooo much!!!???!!!!  And ALL of their smiles are PERFECT?  Just some things to make you go,,,,,,HMMmmmm???  Here is another thing about McCain.  He DIVORCED wife #1 while she was in the hospital, so that he could marry Cindi(Beauty Queen).  Then he chose a VP candidate, Sarah Palin(Beauty Queen), whom he could control.  Tell yourself, do you really, in your heart, in your soul, that this wife-abusing, cheater is who you want to reprent the GRAND, Great, accepting state that is the USA???  If your answer is YES, then that is your choice.  I will respect that, but IF you say no.........Then only ONE choice remains........BARAK OBAMA!!!  Don't let his name throw you off.  'Cause like me, he is an AFRICAN-American!!!!!  Although the TRUTH is HE is an AFRICAN-American and I am NOT!!!! I am an African-AMERICAN.. You see, I trace my Ancestry back through Native American(Cherokee-unrecognized Shamans), English Royalty(Oldest Living MALE heir of the Duke of Holder), Dutch(46th cousin to the THRONE), member of the UNRECOGNISED LUMBEE tribe of the USA, and an UNKNOWN and possibly UNKNOWABLY(sp?) kingdoms in AFICA!!!  Barak can trace his African-AMERICAN ancestry waaaaaaayyyyyy easier than I can.  ME??.....I am a product of the history of RACIAL HATRED and IGNORANCE that has shown America that she is NOT the beacon of HOPE and FAIRNESS that she SHOULD be.  Barak, who was born days before me, is the HOPE that we ALL wish AMerica COULD be!!!  We only have this 1 shot.  Is your personal ignorance reaall worth it?  I am multi-racial......So are my children, because their mom IS KOREAN!  I fell in LOVE with her, not because of the color of her skin, but the CONTENT of her character.  This is the ONE thing that all you racist miss!! Everytime, without fail.....Men are men, Women are women,,,,no matter where you are on this planet.  I have set and  broke bread w/men and women who said that I was nothing more than an animal.  They left that table knowing that they were WRONG!!  And so did I!!!.  How can you continue to hate that which gave YOU life????  According to ALL of the scientest in the world, EVE was an AFRICAN WOMAN!!!!  Proof!!! you deal with it my still "HATIN' MYSELF & ANYBODY Different" cousins.
The TRUTH is that CAUCASINS came from AFRICANS!!!!
Let's face it, race is the issue, not experience, Obama beat the Clintons and other major players in the Democratic Party with experience to get the nomination.  A lot of white people in Missouri are afraid of or despise an intelligent black man like Obama, in the Debate McCain couldn't bring himself to even look at him (it literally drives them crazy to find themselves in a position like this)and so they do everything to raise the bar for him and lower it for their own, and that only makes this candidate become stronger and better, this man is different, he is special.  Secondly, the country is got to be in bad shape for them to even consider Obama, you've read the article.  But time is teaching them a lesson, they're starting to realize that they keep getting conned into wars, loosing they're lives, jobs, pensions, savings, health-care and homes by people in their party who act and sound like them.  If you're poor, a baby boomer, didn't go to college, or dropped out of high school and you can't find a job, you don't want to lower the bar and vote for candidates (actors)just because they're trying to look and sound like you to get your vote,  you can't eat and pay the bills with looks and sounds, you need money and someone you can count on who's going to help you get some of it.  Missouri it time to stop voting for actors, and vote for a roof over your head, food on the table, an education for your children instead of just wars and a job to support your family and health-care.  This election "MAKE THEM SHOW YOU THE MONEY AND THEIR GOOD JUDGEMENT MISSOURI", and vote Obama/Biden for a change.
This is NOT ABOUT Democrat versus Republican anymore.  This is about us - MainStreetUSA.
Read the blogs above and we sound just like Congress did this past week.  We are not getting anywhere trying to throw jabs.
What we should be doing is blogging about websites that we can go to and organize and really letting our elected officials know that we are MAD AS HELL AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!!!!!
Voting is not enough - we must organize, we must march, we must stand on street corners, we must do what we can for ourselves, our children and our grandbabies.  Washington will not, they proved that by porking this bill.  This should be the straw that broke the camel's back.
MainStreetUSA - pass the word on all your blogging sites - lets organize, let us stand united and let our current and future elected officials know that enough is enough.
Post websites where we can actually organize and get this show on the road to make the voice of MainStreet heard LOUD and CLEAR
RACE will  ALWAYS be an issue. . .the question is will people let it 'interfere' with what they KNOW is the right thing to do ?????
Obama has new ideas, and is forward-looking. . .OR, you can continue with the same.  It's very simple, and with the CURRENT poor economic picture in this country, with almost a million jobs lost in one year. . .well,  I don't think 'black' means anything. . . .I think the color is 'green' $$$ for your survival. . . we'll see.
If we were to get a transcript of the debate we would see that Palin has a great problem in constructing coherent sentences. She broadcasts rather than speaks, meaning she vocalizes some key phrases that are programmed and she just replays them over and over. There were numerous times in the debate I could actually not understand what she was saying because she mangles English so badly and she streams from thought to thought without logical transitions. As far as her folksy, down home manner, that may have played well this election cycle had not George Bush saturated the market with that east Texas plainsman humor over the last 8 years. Also, my wife watched the debate in Spanish on Univision and she said that Palin sounded very uneducated and even weird at times, since obviously a translator has to rapidly understand what she says then convert it to Spanish. Palin says so much nonsense, it has to sound really bad when translated to a foreign language.
I STILL DO NOT GET HOW PEOPLE CANNOT SEE THROUGH PALEN - SHE IS NOT ONLY INEXPERIENCED IN WORLDLY WAYS SHE SHOWS A TOTAL DISREGARD IN TELLING THE TRUTH...WHAT MCCAINS TEAM TELLS HER SHE BELIEVES AND ACCEPTS - WHERE IS THE BALANCE BETWEEN SHE AND MCCAIN - IS SHE PLANNING ON BEING A PUPPET WHO JUST ACCEPTS WHAT IS BEING SPOON FED TO HER????SHE SHOWS ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE AS TO HOW TO ANSWER SPONTANEOUS QUESTIONS....NOW THE CAMPAIGN IS NOT LETTING HER MEET WITH THE PRESS...WAKE UP AMERICAAN'S PALEN WAS PICKED TO BE USED AS A PUPPET TO WIN FEMALE VOTES - EITHER WAY I REMAIN HOPEFUL THAT PEOPLE WILL SEE THROUGH THIS DECEPTION AND LEAVE MCCAIN AND CARL ROVE ON THE SIDELINES WATCHING THE SWEARING IN FROM THE SIDELINES.....
Interesting article, but there were too many typos.  It was a distraction.
After 8 years of Bush, to othink some will make the same mistake a 3rd time voting for another dunce (895 out of 899 in naval class McCain) and want to have a beer with (or more according to Lowry) prefer to spit out still innacurate but memorized, no national issue knowledge Palin. Since the last 8 gave us Katrina, 911 and endedwith bailout I guess there's little left to lose? Welcome in China the next world leader? Thanks to our racial issues? The irony of punishment for a long ago human sin eventually being the sin itself or the inability to completely and 100% purge from it after nearly 200 years even with the best efforts of great men like Lincoln, Kennedy, King, Johnson? Its not too late to cleanse this issue from our considerations.
McCain loves to "have his cake and eat it too." He suspended his campaign, but attended the debate anyway. He sucked up to Clinton supporters, but chose a conservative running mate. He claimed to be fiscally responsible, but favored spending $10 Billion/month in Iraq and still voted for the $800 Billion bailout. He promoted a "maverick" image, but also boasted about voting with Bush 90% of the time. He vowed to "change" Washington, but hired Washington lobbyists to run his campaign. The simple conclusion is that McCain may be consistent, but he is consistently two-faced, saying one thing and doing another. His loyalty, faithfulness and truthfulness are certainly not a given. In contrast, Barack Obama is solely focused on bringing the country together to solve our problems. McCain/Palin is the ticket that "scares" me; Obama/Biden will definitely get my vote!
I am a Missouri voter - and my husband and I have voted for Republicans and for Democrats. We are informed voters and take that responsibility seriously. I am a white-collar worker and my husband is a small business owner. Last year my husband had his best business year and this year has been our worst. We are not alone. The economy is in the tank in Missouri and across the country. We would rather have Barack Obama in charge -- who is calm, diplomatic, and gives us hope rather than John McCain who appears anything BUT calm, diplomatic and hopeful. We've had enough - we need a change and a new direction.
The Monkey and the organ grinder! Now who trained the monkey to read a teleprompter ?
Old fears and prejudices die hard...
Palin for all her talk on Thursday night was not a debate but well rehearsed on a limited number of points.  Her "folksy" presentation did not impress me as an individual to lead this wonderful country but perhaps she would be better in a comedy club winking at the audience.  Those winks were not statesperson like.  Her twang and pronunciation made me cringe.
Judging from the Republican propaganda that my sister and her husband have been forwarding to me from Missouri, I'm thinking that there is much work to be done to get the undecideds off the fence and vote for Obama/Biden. It is just too hard for me to believe that anyone but the far right radicles could possibly vote for that poor excuse for a grandpa and his prom date.
If these folks think that Dick Cheney is toxic, I do not understand how in the world they could even think about voting for McCain / Palin or Palin / McCain, either way Palin is exactly like or worse than Cheney. It is sad to see that people can not see this in her and that they would vote "solidly" for a man they know has temper issue and a finger on the red button. I really thought American citizens were smarter than this. That inexperience is a tactic, since they will vote for someone who has never had anything but gov. healthcare (McCain) and a PTA leader who has only been gov. of a state for 18 months and already has created problems in a state with a very small population. I am stunned how they can defend their vote for McCain/Palin with all of the concerned they voiced.
Anyone who will put their racial issues ahead of what is best for our country IS NOT A TRUE AMERICAN!!

I think most of us know in our hearts that McCain/Palin is not good for this country and voting for them will put our country in great jeopardy.

If Obama was white and had the EXACT same history, we would be falling over ourselves to vote for him.  If it helps, just remember he is half white raised by a white mother and white grandparents.
"How Will Missouri Blue Collar Voters Break?"

OBAMA '08

Chuck Todd - stop your love feast with Palin and McCain. Your front article about Palin regaining her standing with women is made up. Just because the candidate did not fall down or stare blankly into the camera does not qualify as a success. Her statements about expanding VP powers is frightening. Her comments were traditional GOP lines with no substance (just see Keith O's exposure comparing her to George Bush in 2000.) We know you want this a close race because you love McCain and for your own ratings. But this is not a reality show (which is all Palin is good for.) This is the future of our country is a scary time of American history.
Thank God there are some people who are "thinking".  John McCain has shot himself in the foot on some many levels! It's time to give the "ol' maverick" a decent burial.
