LONG BEACH, Calif. – Sarah Palin told reporters Sunday that “the Associated Press is wrong” for saying her recent remarks tying Barack Obama to William Ayers are “racially tinged.”

“The comments are about an association that has been known but hasn’t been talked about,” Palin said before boarding a plane to San Francisco. “I think it’s fair to talk about where Barack Obama kicked off his political career, in the guy’s living room.”

Palin said Saturday that Obama was “palling around with terrorists” because of his association with Ayers, a founder of the 1960s terrorist group Weather Underground. The New York Times reported Saturday that Obama and Ayers served together on several charity boards in Chicago and Ayers, now a professor at the University of Illinois, held a fundraiser for Obama’s first race for state Senate. But the article also said the two men are not particularly close.

The AP said Sunday that Palin’s recent comments were “unsubstantiated and carried a racially tinged subject that John McCain himself may come to regret.” The article said Palin’s charge about Obama’s relationship with Ayers “was exaggerated at best if not outright false.”

Palin made the comments three times Saturday, as part of a new effort by the McCain campaign to move the focus towards Obama’s character.

“It’s important for Americans to know,” Palin said on the tarmac Sunday. “It’s really important for Americans to start knowing who the real Barack Obama is.”

I am a registered Republican and was undecided until this latest smear campaign. I cannot vote a McCain - Palin ticket now. Abortion was a crucial issue to me but character is more important. Palin's approach is - as AP described - racially tinged. Nobody reacts to McCain's ties to G. Gordon Liddy, connection to Keating Five, or Todd Palin's connection to the Alaskan Independence Party. The average voter nevertheless raises eyebrows when Obama is linked to Ayers, because he is black.

Just imagine if Obama had John McCain's record:
(i) a broken first marriage, ending up in an affair,
(ii) a wife who is addicted to drugs,
(iii) former "terrorist" friend G. Gordon Liddy,
(iv) linked to the Keating Five scandal,
(v) a vile temper, known to use foul language.

or if he had Sarah Palin's record:

(ii) a mediocre degree,
(iii) a secessionist sympathizing husband,

This is how McCain/Palin plan to close the issues gap - with guilt by association. But for every point they have, there is DIRECT guilt on their hands:

- On Ayers and patriotism, Palin is directly linked to the AIP through her own speeches and her husband.

The media has given Gov. Palin such a complete rectal exam from day one that we even know the content of "hacked" personal e-mail. You might then find that the CAC (Chicago Annenberg Challenge) that Ayers founded was Obama's vehicle to stardom as a highly praised Community Organizer.

The records, at U of I Chicage library have been untapped by media reporters, curiously enough, eventhough they contain virtually all the info on "Barack, The Early Years". The Sun-Times and maybe only one or two non-left-wing investigators have even bothered to look into it's pages. Why is that?

If a candidate had the same working relationship with David Duke as Barack had with "Billy the Kid Bomber" Ayers, you Lefties would scream bloody murder!

Don't you think that 1) Obama's history is relevant 2) it's worth full disclosure and 3)should be fully covered with the same intensity that you gave Gov. Palin? Or are you all as shallow as your ability to investigate on your own.

And please don't give us the lame excuse that it's a distraction from more important topics because, frankly, a candidate's character and judgement in choosing his/her associations is more foundational than health care plans, how he/she dances, or the question, "is it boxers or briefs".

John McCain stated in his last debate that he regrets the fact that we quit supporting the “freedom fighters” of Afghanistan after they chased the Russians out of their homeland. Now I know that ever since Ronald Reagan, Republicans like to refer to these rebels as “freedom fighters”, but they preferred to call their conflict with Russia the Mujahideen. They considered themselves mujahids, which translates, Muslims fighting in a jihad… Hmmm – Doesn’t that make them Jihadists? Since many of the Jihadists were from outside of Afghanistan, I prefer to call them terrorists.
The Russians left Afghanistan in 1989 in large part due to the United States’ support of the Jihadists. We supported the Islamo-Fascists then because their enemy was our enemy. But hey, by today’s definition, wouldn’t that have made us State sponsors of terror? Does McCain really regret not supporting jihadists since 1989? Doesn’t John know that Bin Laden was a prominent member of the Mujahideen? Does McCain really regret not supporting Osama Bin Laden since 1989? And, why in the world, does McCain regret the US not being a State sponsor of terror anymore?
John McCain just doesn’t get it. You have to know a little history… You have to know that the Shia and Sunni have a long history of violence towards each other. You can’t make naive decisions based on your gut without conducting thoughtful research and analyzing the situation carefully. It appears that McCain is unable or temperamentally unwilling to do either.

Can anyone out there figure out that with all the socialistic ideas of the gov't running things that Obama preaches that the only people in this country that will make out on any of there plans will be people that live on wel-fare? EVERYONE else that lives in this country is going to pay more in taxes! Unless of course you do not make enough money to pay taxes on anyways. That is around 6-7 thousand.
For the gov't to run the medical industry you have to think about that for a second. Can you imagin going to the doctor for a broke arm or worse and it being like going to the DMV? (A nother gov't run entity).
Lets make sence of this though. If you drop the bush tax cut, add capital gains tax, and tax big companys more what will that do??? That will reduce the number of jobs in this country, increase what we pay to these companys for the goods and services we purchase from them, (companys don't eat the tax they push it on to there customers. US!) and last with the capital gains tax increase, why would anyone invest in the stock market, buy homes to flip or even try to work harder to make more? To give the gov't more of there hard earned money. Not me. Heck I'd quit my job so that the gov't will send my kids to school.
So since it looks like ignorance seems to run this country i would like anyone out there that votes for Obama to keep a pay stub now and in 2 years, when they should be making more, compare the two check and then tell me we are better off. Thats IF they still have a job.

The Associated Press has jettisoned any hint of impartiality in the 2008 election and is blatantly protecting Barack Obama. This is the most compelling evidence to date.

See AP reporter Mike Glover's story the other day describing McCain as "irritable" and "sarcastic" in one case where McCain was simply joking about the "health care" he received as a POW. The AP's coverage in many instances undermines fairness and accuracy so shamefully that I think the entire news organization has been tainted.

When Ayers was involved with the Weathermen in the timultuous 60's Obama was eight years old; I imagine Sarah was about the same age. My guess is that Sarah had never heard of Ayers until McCain put her up to this.

It is well documented that the two men have never been close. They met in 1995 through an education project, The Chicago Annenberg Challange, and have encountered each other a few times in public life or in the neighborhood since. Accordig to the NYT (Oct 4) Sen. Obama has never expressed sympathy for the radical views of Mr. Ayers, whom he has called "somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 ears ago."

Ayers' bombing charges were dropped in 1974; he has since been rehabilitated, earned a doctorate in education from Columbia in 1987 and has been a professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago ever since; he is also the author or editor of 15 books.

14. 20 year church membership with a controversal pastor, Rev. Wright, only after the public got wind of it and started questioning it, he "denounces" Rev. Wright.
15. Not willing to share your financial aid records from Princeton/Harvard so the public can see exactly WHO paid your college loans- seems as though an overseas person(s) that is terrorist affiliated paid on it??

Seems an awful lot of policical moves to protect his campaign and his bid for president.

The list could go on and on. I can understand, MAYBE, having one that might be of question and having to denounce it- BUT when you have that many, there is a pattern established and its not over a 1 or 2 year period but more than 20 plus years.

There is one issue after another, one lie after another ( which that list I think is at about 40 lies told in less than 30 days) Do you really want a president that has terrorist ties, lies to your face CONSTANTLY and wants to be president? Palin not only knew the full implications of the new smear mission she opened in Colorado yesterday, but she and her handlers even prepped for it by trying to soften her stark white “visuals” at the event. The crowds that Bible Spice has drawn in Colorado have been snow white everywhere you look and her handlers knew that’d be the situation yesterday, too. Naturally that concerned them in light of the specific slime they were have her spread there. They needed to somehow try to diversify her trademark crowd of “Sarah’s just like us!” acolytes, in preparation for the pushback they knew they deserved and that was coming. Their problem is that they can’t get minorities to show up and give her “diversity cover” of their own volition. So what’d they do? For one, they ORDERED and paid one poor black guy to be there! In several of the photos of Palin Saturday a black Secret Service agent has been tasked with her in-close protection and therefore is very apparent in photos. Also, hilariously, she wore two big buttons with photos of, apparently, servicemen on them. One button is of a white guy, and one a black guy. Big, visible buttons. See? Proof positive that yesterday was NOTHING about race! Pathetic. To try to mitigate the problem of firing the opening salvo of Palin’s unsubtle “Obama’s not like us!” smear campaign from the platform of her standard unbroken sea of white faces, they literally pay one black man to stand near her, and she pins a picture of a second one on her dress. That was every bit as calculated, cynical, and transparent a set-up as “Can I call you Joe?” was on Thursday. What a sorry, ham-fisted lot. Someone so ugly deserves her political career to end as ugly, too, and I very much hope it does.

Young voters for Obama. He is more representative of the new world order. Enough of the non-sense. I want my president not only to have super intellect... but common sense. Although race should not matter, he represents you ... he represents me. He's black. He is white. So think twice when you play the stupid race card.

The McCain/Palin ticket are grasping for straws. They are desperate and it's showing. Sarah Palin's husband was a member of the Alaska Independence Party. Sarah addressed this party's state convention. Members of this party have advocated secession, withdrawal from the United States. She has even "paled" around with the Alaskan Independence Party and former presidential candidate Pat Buchanan. Buchanan said, "Sarah Palin was a brigadeer in 1996 as was her husband. They were at a fundraiser for me, she's a terrific gal, she's a rebel reformer." Does this make her guilty by association. She's sleeping with the person that wants to denouce/secessed from the United States. Does this make her guilty by association? People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
