Will Obama's time in red states pay off?

After two close elections, eight years of bitter partisanship and confronted by an electoral map best described as a vast sea of red with some blue around the edges,
Obama has prided himself on taking a different approach. He has spent more time than his Democratic predecessor did campaigning along the margins, in some of the reddest parts of so-called red states, a move that has helped him.
