Another health care ad

Health care is the attack du jour. The latest ad going after McCain on the subject is from an independent group, Health Care for America Now. The group says the hit on McCain is a $4.3 million buy, running on national cable and locally, on broadcast in Ohio.

A voice can be heard over a woman who is walking, and accuses, "Under John McCain's health-care plan, 20 million people could lose their insurance at work. I could be one of them. And with a pre-existing condition like cancer? I couldn't get coverage on my own. He wants me to fight cancer and the insurance companies? Fine, I'll take you both on."

The ad also cuts in the names in of several Republican candidates, including Sen. John Sununu (R-NH), Reps. Ric Keller (FL-8), Randy Kuhl (NY-29), Tim Walberg (MI-7) and challengers Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9), Marty Ozinga (IL-11) and Erik Paulsen (MN-3).

The other seven ads will air in their respective districts on broadcast television and cable.

*** UPDATE *** The RNC's Amber Wilkerson passes along the following response: “Barack Obama and his supporters continue to lie about John McCain’s proposals, which would actually lower health insurance costs and provide a dramatic increase in coverage for Americans. Instead of attacking John McCain, Barack Obama should explain why his plan would put healthcare under Washington’s control -- not American patients’.”

"Bush Hugger" McCain was confused about the fine reference last night. He was obviously thinking about Hillary's health plan that did include fines. Obama's does not. I think Obama could have brought the house down last night had he saved his answer for the very end and then mentioned that his opponent got confused about who's plan had the fine and that his plan's fines would be zero.

The Obama health care plan is the best one for us Americans who can't afford health insurance and do not trust the insurance companies one bit. The private sector health care we have is the worst in the world and we need socialized medical care just like all the other major civilized countries have.

Did anyone else notice a possible McCain alzheimer's moment last night, when he was talking about his "entire military career" and then looked awkward and disoriented?

He caught himself and fixed it a few seconds later, but it sure didn't strike me as the usual candidate mispeak kind of thing.

John McCain's plan would also continue to hurt divorced father's who pay child support. They would not get credit for support payments and the mother would not have to claim the child support for the child. Most father's end up with less income than a remarried mother, yet the father cannot deduct any of the chid support payments. Where does "fair" come in on this? His plan does not make sense.

the $5000 tax credit McCain is proposing is not enough when healthcare on average is $12,000. We will have to pay the difference and couple this with the high dedutibles and copay, healthcare becomes unaffordable. It is important to address the cost of buying healthcare as well as the deductibles and copay. Obama's healthcare plan addresses this.

It is true that McCain's health care plan is a disaster; what would one expect from a Republican health care plan? It's pay as you go. And what about the 50 plus million uninsured: not much help.

As expected, the Dem plan is much better; it really helps everyone. The Dems promised universal health care, and I believe they will deliver.

As someone who has a medical condition that requires me to take medication daily I cannot imagine my life without my insurance. The actual cost of my medication is $1800 for three months. This does not include the doctors visits. If I did not have insurance I would probably be bankrupt. Of course most politicians are not worried about medical care because they have medical insurance paid for by their constituents. When do their constituents get the same benefits?

Couple of problems with this. NO insurance company will EVER cover pre existing conditions ! Secondly I don't want to have to pay for everyone else's health care. Under obmas plan that is exactly what will happen and then I will have to drop my health care for my family. Then on top of that wants to FINE every american who desn't have health care. what the hell ? Notice last night he didn't say how much the fines will be ! Obama is a bad nightmare that we can't live with. and his steal from the successful and give to the do nothing's is really fair too. I only make 52k a year and can't see why I would want to work hard and have the American dream if I get penialized for it. What blows me away even more you people want this. What happened to capitalism ? Is this his immigration policy to fend off new immigrants. Why come here if you're penialized for being suscessful. What I like about Obama's health care plan is that he talks about reducing premiums and not just making it more available. I'm tired of our premiums going up more than 20% every year and having to consider going to a plan that offers less just to make it affordable.

McCain has no idea what its like to be a middle income family these days and while Obama isn't in that bracket either he seems to get it. I do like that he makes no pretense about not being in that bracket and is willing to pay out more in taxes to help those less fortunate.

In the months since Sen. McCain introduced his health plan, statements made by his campaign have implied that the new tax credits he is proposing to help Americans buy health insurance would be paid for with other tax increases.

Having lost my health care with a 'reorganization' in the state university where I worked - reorganization meaning changing from protected jobs to contract jobs and letting the majority of workers over 55 go, legally - I have 'preexisting' diabetes, just discovered this year, along with 5 medications i have to take daily, along with $130/mo for diabetes meds that I'm not allergic to. So, yeah, McCain is blowing up his nose on this. he has never BOUGHT insurance, so what the hell would he know about getting it?

McCain's health plan is fundamentally flawed. One big issues is that it doesn't make provisions for people with pre-exisiting health conditions. Someone with a genetic condition, such as cerebal palsy or cystic fibrosis, would have trouble getting insurance because they are guaranteed to have claims. Yet without insurance most could not afford the maintainence care needed to increase their quality of life and prevent more expensive hospitalizations. This would put a strain on the industry and the economy.

Secondly, McCain's health plan removes incentives for employers to offer health insurance - typically at lower group rates than an individually bought plan. This means people will have to pay more for their insurance and potentially lose employer contributions.

I have a suggestion that I am trying to get to Senator Obama – it is simple and to the point – if you think this idea has merit, please pass along to someone that is close to the campaign?
Here is the idea:

When discussing health insurance, there is a point /idea that I wish that Senator Obama would use.

People across this nation have ideas, and would like to start a business for themselves, but why don't they do it? The inability and uncertainty about how to secure health insurance.

If we knew that health insurance was available, and could be attained without worrying about cost or being rejected, you will see such a surge of innovation in this country as we try to solve the issues that confront us.

This also applies to individuals that would like to volunteer to serve, take a leave from their job to care for an aging parent, etc

Please present this suggestion to Senator Obama?
