Cindy, Palin go on offense over troops

From NBC/NJ's Matthew Berger and Carrie Dann
BETHLEHEM, Penn. – Cindy McCain and Sarah Palin went after Barack Obama’s lack of military service Wednesday, with both women making personal appeals as mothers of sons serving overseas.

“The day that Sen. Obama decided to cast a vote to not fund my son when he was serving sent a cold chill through my body,” Cindy McCain said at a joint McCain-Palin rally at Lehigh University. “I would suggest that Sen. Obama change shoes with me for just one day. And see what it means, and see what it means to have a loved one serving in the Armed Forces, and more importantly serving in harm’s way.”

Both McCain and Obama have opposed Senate measures with troop funding attached.  Obama voted against a troop-funding bill in May 2007 because it did not contain language calling for a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq.  McCain opposed, but did not vote, on a troop-funding measure earlier that year that did call for a withdrawal timeline, a position with which he vigorously disagrees.

Palin later suggested Obama did not understand the cost of war.

“Last night, in the debate, we heard again Barack Obama lecturing John McCain on the stakes involved whenever America goes to war,” the Republican vice presidential candidate said. “But wait a minute, may I remind Sen. Obama that Sen. McCain served our nation in uniform for 22 years.”

She said McCain understood the cost of war and noted her own son serving overseas in an oft-repeated line.

“God bless him, he spent five and a half years as a POW, and he knows the cost of war because he paid those costs himself,” she said of McCain. “And as a mother of one of those troops, yup, that’s exactly the kind of man I want as commander in chief.”

In her introduction of McCain, Palin also went after Obama and Biden for changing their positions on offshore oil drilling at Tuesday night’s debate.

“What that told me is that he's not willing to drill for energy, but he's sure willing to drill for votes,” she said of Obama.

She also said Obama’s main strategy was linking McCain to President Bush.

“So last night, Senator McCain talked about real and pragmatic solutions. Barack Obama talked about why he'd rather run against George Bush,” she said. “That strategy is starting to wear pretty darn thin.”

*** UPDATE ***  Per an amended entry from Factcheck.org: On April 26, 2007, McCain did, in fact, not vote on the final version of a troop-funding bill after it emerged from a House-Senate conference committee.  But he DID vote "nay" on an earlier version of the bill when it first moved through the Senate, before the final version was agreed to by a House and Senate compromise.

CINDY, ASK YOUR HUSBAND WHY HE DIDN'T VOTE FOR JIM WEBB'S GI BILL!!! frauds
YOU Hypocrite... Mccain voted against troop funding because of a time table.  Get off your high and mighty soap box.  You are done Cindy.
Senator Obama and Senator Biden have always been supportive of our troops, both when they're in service and when they return home as veterans. Opposing a war does not equate to lack of support for the troops. As a mother, I want a president who thinks long and hard before sending my children into war, a president who tries diplomacy, economic sanctions and trade sanctions first. Wars are sometimes necessary, always serious and should not be fodder for negative campaigning.

Obama/Biden 2008
first off... Cindy, did you ever ask your Gasbag of a husband the same question when he voted against troop funding because the bill contained a timeline?

Also... is this still the straight-talk express?

http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/10/mccains_suspension_not_quite_2.html
99% of the Country does not have a relative in the Military.  This is an appeal to 1% of the military voters who support Obama.  Go figure.
I doubt Obama can walk in the shoes of Cindy. He can't afford it. I am wondering if Cindy felt a chill when her husband opposed troop funding due to  a time table as well as the gi bill.
Why is it then Senator Obama has a 80% rating with veteran's affairs groups and McCain has a 20% rating from same said groups. Oh that's right Johnny got his and to hell with everyone else. Country First Ha more like Me First.
Uhhhh...... didn't Cindy's husband, John McBush ALSO vote against funding???

This entire crew is nothing but a bunch of HYPOCRITICAL LIARS.

The mainstream media thought that the membership of Todd Palin, who is not a candidate for any office, in the Alaska Independence Party important enough to report in such outlets as the Los Angeles Times, MSNBC, and the New York Times, among others. So now that Barack Obama's membership in the far left New Party has been unearthed, will they report his membership in that Socialist organization?
John McCain was also against offshore drilling before he was for it (switching positions just this summer). He still opposes drilling in ANWR. Sarah Palin doesn't know what the hell she's talking about.
Cindy, don't you understand, please get the facts straight.

Obama voted for a bill that would not only provide funding for the troops but would also ensure your son comes home SOON because he voted for a bill with a  timeline. Wouldn't you rather see your child come home soon than be in Iraq for well who knows until when.

Please enough of the twisting of facts, I'm getting dizzy just reading them.

MSNBC please post this - thanks!
This poor woman  behaves as if she is emotionllay abused. She seems to be tentative, timid, and walking on eggshells when she is with her husband. At first glance, she seems to have it all, but then you consider who she's married to....
What kind of a coward IS McFossil that he has to send in "the woman" for this lop-sided lie spewed forth by Cindy and Sarah.....the Stepford woman in McCain's life???? PLEEZE. Maybe they can ask him why he voted AGAINST the GI bill for their sons and why most veteran groups are AGAINST him? Do these two know they are the laughing stock of America? Do they ever watch Saturday Night Live? They should; the might see themselves as others do......not good!
Funny how McCain is getting his wife and Palin to do all the campaign dirty work that he himself doesn't have guts to do.  What a maverick!
Is it just me, or are the Palin comments falling on increasingly deaf ears? It seems like every day she brings out the folksy "dog goneit's" and "oh gee's" (not to mention the accent and her tendency is do the, "Oh..now...what a minute there..." act) are less and less effective. She may energize the Rep base, but she's not doing much, if anything, for the all important independant vote.
Why do these guys keep repeating the lies even after they have been told to their faces that they are lies? Obama just last night at the debate told McCain for probably the 50th time that he did not vote against troop funding, he voted against the lack of a timeline. Something Americans have shown they want!

I used to be a staunch independent, but this is pushing me over the verge of declaring a party. I don't want to be a partisan, but I don't want anyone thinking I'm aligned with this blatent pander-lying.
Damn, there goes my gag reflex again.

Register before your deadline and make sure you get out to vote on 11/4.

Oh.... I get it, now McGramps  is aware  that people are tired of Sarah "N/A" Palin and now he needs a new voice to be heard in his campaign!

Well we know one thing for sure now,not only can Cindy talk but... Cindy is fluent in McCanish....

Sarah Palin should say some magic words, wink/blink, snap her fingers and disappear!

Just the Truth...
"God bless him, he spent five and a half years as a POW, and he knows the cost of war because he paid those costs himself,” she said of McCain.

...and, God bless us, we are his fellow prisoners!!!

Ummm no you betcha it's not wearing thin. McCain = Bush...you'll only hear it for 27 more days...so don't fret Ms. Palin, only 27 more days.

Obama/Biden '08
Whose strategy is running pretty darn thin?  Someone should let Palin know who really has the "thin" strategy.  I can't Cindy McCain is involved in trash talking now.  The republican campaign is out of control and I truly hope the American public shows their disgust with their vote on November 4.
Obama can't afford Cindy's shoes. Did she forget that McCain ALSO voted against funding the troops when the bill contained a timeline - Obama voted against it when it didn't.  Imagine someone expecting an EXIT strategy when we go to war.  BTW, I wrote to our state senators (not that it does any good, I'm from NC)and asked them NOT to fund the troops and my son and nephews are also vets. The Vietnam war ended when congress started to tighten the purse strings, at the very least there should be an exit strategy and a timeline.

Oh, no, the Barbie twins are at it again. Ladies, he's trying to keep you and other mothers from having to suffer and worry about your sons.
Who cares what they say. McSame is a racist and so is Sarah Palin. As far as Cindy McCain goes I am sure she is looking at her living artifact in a different light after watching him fumble and mumble last night.
When he announced his mortgage buyback McCain looked like Yosemite Sam when the bomb didn't go off.
Remember the radical leftist group ACORN, the one who Obama has worked with and even trained its members and the group that Pelosi and Reid and the Dem leadership was going to earmark millions to in their 1st version of the bailout package (before the Republicans saw it and demanded it removed).  The below are recent developments:

Lake County, Ind., election officials this month rejected thousands of registration forms ACORN had turned in from its drives this summer. On a conference call yesterday, GOP officials noted that up to 11,000 of the applications were no good - tying up election officials and jeopardizing the voting rights of untold victims whose identities may have been stolen.

* Milwaukee, Wisc., officials last month discovered at least seven felons employed as voter-registration workers for ACORN and another affiliated group. (State law bans felons from such work.) They also uncovered a raft of problematic voter-registration cards. The state GOP accuses the group of trying to get dead, imprisoned or imaginary people on the voter rolls. Fraud has plagued ACORN's Milwaukee chapter since the last election cycle.

I supposed this radical, socialist group ACORN, like Rev Wright, Bill Ayers, and Tony Rezko is just another "innocent" "association" of Barack Obama.

Obama, MOst of America still doesn't truly know who you are!  And you're hoping they don't find out...

That clueless malarkey from Governor Goshdarnit is wearing even thinner. And given that she didn't even know what part of the service her son was in,  we needn't stay up at night fretting over her gratuitous attacks.
If McCain is such a tough guy, why does he need Laverne and Shirley out there to tug at people's heart strings?
It's the economy, stupid...TALK ABOUT THE ECONOMY. Those sound bites fall on deaf ears, especially because they are lies.
They're gonna have a little problem with their bogus message because Joe Biden's son has just been deployed to Iraq.
Palin you are the only one who does not see the link between Bush and McCain.

He voted 90% of the time in agreement with Bush. He was a cheerleader for Bush on the Iraq war. He was a deregulator for wall street - in line with Bush's policies. Need I say more?

As for the majority of Americans who see the truth behind the facade, we are voting for "that one".
Honestly, stop covering this woman. She doesn't care about anything but her own ego.
Wow...She can talk... or is she reading a script also?
The McCain/Palin team have reached a new low.  Using their "country serving sons" as pawns in this chess game of politics.  It will be interesting to see how much lower they can go with just under a month left till election day.  With the tactics this team has used, they stand no chance of getting elected, and have probably jeopardized their chances of holding onto the jobs they currently hold.  What a lack of integrity.
Another classless clueless Obama supporter in action.

Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill's had a interaction with Mitt Romney.

McCaskill was stepping out of her chair at the end of an MSNBC interview, and Romney was up next. She and a staffer unplugged her various wires, and she handed Romney the earpiece the guests use to hear the host.

"I spit on this before I put it in," she said to Romney, with a sweet smile.

And these are the people the Democrats want in charge. Claire seems to be quite the lady.
Oh Good Lord, she's back!  I guess I'm going to have to throw another $75 to Obama's campaign.

Both of them should probably ask why McCain insists that their sons stay in Iraq even when everyone else (including Bush) has endorsed a Time Horizon (aka timeline) to get out, as Obama suggested.

Oh, btw ladies, Senator Biden also has a son in Iraq.

Obama/Biden '08!

Not a SINGLE mention in FR today about McCain leaving right after debate last night ... anyone want to bet that it would have been mentioned if it had been Obama?
So once again, nothing on the economy?
By the way YouTube just released a video of John McCain calling the audience his prisoners.

I am voting for "that one."
Palin and McCains with their lies are wearing thin... I am sick of the madness please concentrate on the ecconomy and bringing our men and women back from Iraq.

Thank you.
Who in the world cares what Beauty Queen 1&2 have to say about anything. They are such a joke. John McCain has always used women to further his own agenda. Cindy, nothing more than a trophy wife with a ton of cash - she paid for his political career. Palin is dumb as a box of rocks and is just being used to spew the right wing filth and smears that McCain is embarrassed to do himself. What a couple of Bimbo's. Cindy and Sarah have a little dignity.
I think what's starting to wear "pretty darn thin" is Sarah's little scheme of pretending she has a clue.  Yup.

I don't think she has much credibility after her inability to name a Supreme court case, and her nonsensical answers in TWO interviews.  And then her LAME excuse that they were "gotcha questions" and "edited".

What's wearing thin Sarah, are peoples patience with you.  This isn't Student Council elections, it's the freaking Presidency, and you Sarah, have proven yourself to be completely incompetent and in no way qualified to be One Heartbeat Away.

Go back to Alaska and deal with the investigation that is currently being ran against your unethical, Cheney-esque behavior.  And if the people of Alaska have half a brain they will impeach your ass.
I guess McCain was thinking about that wife of his, when he called his crowd, "my fellow prisoners." I mean, the guy is losing it.
Palin? Newsflash:  IT WORKS because it's TRUE!!!

And you can pretty much take that to the 'DARN' bank that McCain deregulated!  His policies are indistinguishable from Bush or standard Republican Ideology.  You guys are NOT reform!!!
Obama lacks a lot of things. This is just one more thing.
I'm curious - have you reported on the report cards put out by different veteran's groups ... I think Obama get a better grade on at least two of the nonpartisan veteran's groups...
I would suggest that those nitwit women step into Mr. McCain's Gucci loafers since it is he that voted for the war and now can't quite seem to find his way out of it.
Sarah and Cindy, there is no bottom to how far you will sink to possibly eat off the White House china.  As your level of decency and morality sink, so do your poll numbers.  This election cannot be over soon enough, so Sarah can go back to field dressing moose and Cindy go back to counting the beer money she won't disclose to the American public.
It feels like tatnrums on on the rise for the McCain campaign-
Neither Cindy McCain nor Sarah Palin served either, so are they really qualified to throw these accusations around?  So last night McCain offered "real and pragmatic solutions"?  What kind of fantasy land do these people live in?
