Palin drops puck to boos, cheers

PHILADELPHIA -- A healthy mix of boos and cheers greeted Palin last night as she dropped the ceremonial first puck for the Philadelphia Flyers season -- with an assist from her youngest daughter.

For days, blogs and Web sites had suggested Palin’s appearance would be met mostly with jeers. But Palin received a mixed reaction as she joined the winner of the team’s “Ultimate Hockey Mom” contest, Cathy O’Connell from Erdenheim, Pa.

Perhaps it was Palin’s youngest daughter, Piper, who emerged with her in a Flyers jersey, which helped mollify the crowd. The Alaska governor had even foreshadowed the tactic earlier in the day.

“I’ve been warned that Flyers fans, they get so enthused, that they boo everybody at the drop of the puck,” she said at a Philadelphia fundraiser Saturday afternoon. “But what I thought I’d do is I’d put Piper in a Flyers jersey, bring her out with me. How dare they boo Piper!”

Palin stepped from the team tunnel and out onto a black carpet with Piper and middle daughter Willow and walked across center ice. Some fans clapped, while others booed or held their thumbs pointed down. She shook hands with O’Connell and Flyers captain Mike Richards, and gave a kiss to Rangers assistant captain Scotty Gomez, a native Alaskan.

Palin knelt down, posed for photos with the players and O’Connell and dropped the puck with her simultaneously. She then shook the players’ hands again and walked off into the tunnel.

Palin watched part of the game in a skybox and also gave interviews to Comcast SportsNet and ESPN.

Great mom skills about this hockey gig Sarah(sarcastically stated of course)

Seems to me all she has are gimmicks.  Picking Palin as VP candidate was a slap in the face to every american.  Including republicans,  I'm voting out of party this year!

I start booing everytime she comes on the TV--no news here.
Being a Pa resident where I know the flyers were swarmed with emails to keep Palin out of the flyers arena must not have worked.  I know the boos were loud and the flyers I hope loose every game they play this season just because of this.  Go Phillies, Eagles and Sixers.   Pa we don't want you Palin go back to Alaska to commit some more ethic violations.

Pa for Obama/Biden
Palin was treated nice compared to all tha lies she has said, even the last one on the troopergate. She should be ashamed of herself. She is just another politician.I do not like her nor trust her. The way she is behaving and talking about Obama is not cristian. That has to be her pastor the witch hunter making her do it.
she is a non-issue...enough
How dare they boo Piper??? Sarah they were boooing YOU!!! And all along I thought McCain was delusional.

Spin baby Spin!!!
What the hell game were you watching?  The boo's were deafening.  Maybe 5% cheering.  It is all over you tube.  Gone are the day's where pundits can spin this crap.  You guys look foolish stating that that was a "mixed reaction" when a million people on youtube have already viewed the video's of her getting mercillesly torn into.
The best argument to defend McCain and Palin for their hate-filled orgies is that they don’t know what they are doing. But who is looking for a president and VP who don’t know what they are doing?
Hello, you never print my comments. Maybe you
read them. Anyway, why in the world would a
Mother put her goals and priorites before her
children? But that's a Sarah for you. Whatever
it takes, she will sacrifice anything and
anyone, including the USA. Go Home Palin!
Does anyone else get the feeling that the mentality of Palin supporters would also think Brittany Spears is a role model?  Seriously!

I'm all for having a woman in national office, but folks this country is in deep, deep trouble.  We, as a whole nation, desperately need and richly deserve the utmost qualified officials to steer this great land through these most uncertain times.  And when it comes down to it, Gov. Palin ISN'T qualified and as a Republican that is difficult to swallow.  I simply cannot bring myself to vote Republican for the sake of party because the experience, vision and stability is abundantly & sorely lacking.  Our future is precariously hanging by a thread, and I hope people seriously think about this before casting their vote.  I fervently pray that the power of stupidity doesn't prevail.
so she basically used her kids as shields to keep from getting booed...

this woman makes me sick.

And her encouragement of comments like "kill him!!!" at her rallies is an embarrassment.

Conservatives are quick to yell "USA!" and "Country First", but they never stop to think that their appallingly uncivilized, hateful behavior is reflectingly BADLY on the "USA"...

McCain and Palin have stoked this fire and incited this rage- if anything were to happen to Barack, it will be on THEIR heads...
