First thoughts: The status quo

*** The status quo: At the beginning of the month, at the 34-day mark before the election, we noted how much had changed in the preceding 34 days: Obama had accepted the Dem nomination, McCain picked Palin, Hurricanes Gustav and Ike crashed into the Gulf Coast, Lehman Brothers went under and Merrill Lynch was bought out, the Bush Administration asked for its $700 billion bailout package, and McCain and Obama participated in their first debate. “If the next 34 is like the last 34, we're in for quite a ride,” GOP pollster Neil Newhouse told First Read at the time. But in the past two weeks since then, what has been remarkable is how little has actually changed. Despite the Dow’s ups and downs, the Biden-Palin debate, and the second McCain-Obama one, the race has continued on its current course where Obama has built his leads in national and state polls.

Video: NBC Political Director Chuck Todd offers his first read on a new set of polls in battleground states, news that the Republican Party is borrowing money in an effort to save Senate seats, and McCain's unveiling of his new economic plan.

In fact, a new round of Quinnipiac polls finds that Obama is now up by nine points in Colorado after the second debate (52%-43%), ahead 16 points in Michigan (54%-38%), up 11 in Minnesota (51%-40%), and ahead 17 points in Wisconsin (54%-37%). (Caveat: These polls seem a bit inflated compared with what the campaigns are showing internally.) Of course, with exactly three weeks go to, things in this race can certainly turn in a blink of eye. But it’s got to be pretty frustrating for the McCain camp to count on outside events to change things again.

*** Throwing stuff at the wall to see what will stick: But what has changed in the past couple of weeks has been the McCain campaign’s tactics -- yet to little avail thus far. Late last month, McCain said he was skipping the first debate unless Congress passed the bailout package, but still traveled to Mississippi anyway, even though the package didn’t pass until days later (a package that has to have left some members of Congress wondering why there was a rush  -- particularly since the plan keeps changing). The campaign whipped out the Ayers card, then pulled it back. At the second debate, McCain unveiled a new home-mortgage plan, which got panned by liberals and conservatives alike. And most recently, advisers signaled that McCain was to give a speech yesterday announcing new economic proposals, but that was scrapped for a new stump speech in which McCain cast himself as the underdog and a fighter. Got all of that? Well, the campaign now says that McCain today will unveil a new set of economic proposals aimed at seniors -- which is a key voting bloc in the states he has to hold (FL, IN, OH) and wants to pick off (PA and WI). It is this group, older white voters, that has moved most recently into Obama’s corner and given the Democrat his big lead. This could be the final swing vote to focus on as we try and figure out exactly the contours of this race. White seniors are the landslide maker for Obama. If he doesn't do well with them, it's what keeps McCain in the game.

*** McCain’s Hispanic deficit: As mentioned above, Obama is now leading in Colorado by nine points, according to that new Quinnipiac poll. What’s worth remembering about the state: Hispanics there make up about 20% of the population and 12% of eligible voters. And per nearly every national poll we’ve seen so far, Obama leads McCain among Hispanics by a 2-to-1 margin. As everyone in the media does the race story -- is there a Bradley Effect? Etc. -- let's not forget the problems that the Arizona senator is having with Hispanics, despite the fact that he supported an immigration reform proposal that was popular with Latinos. McCain, of course, is being punished for his party label, not his position. And that punishment is leading to the Republican trailing in all three Western battlegrounds, putting that much more pressure on him to hold everything else. McCain's Hispanic deficit is yet another reason why the McCain path to 270 is so narrow.

*** Going nuts over ACORN, part II: The GOP’s relentless campaign against ACORN appears to be paying off in press coverage. Here’s the Washington Post: "Republican officials and advisers to Sen. John McCain have sought to paint the group -- which focuses on low-income housing, voter registration, the minimum wage and other issues -- as radical and have accused it of playing a role in the economic crisis and fomenting voter fraud. At the same time, the McCain campaign has sought to tie the group closely to Sen. Barack Obama… ACORN fired back yesterday at the McCain campaign, releasing a 2006 photo of the Arizona senator delivering the keynote speech at a pro-immigration rally in Miami that the group sponsored.” Meanwhile, former GOP Sens. John Danforth and Warren Rudman speak at the National Press Club on ACORN and voter-registration fraud, while ACORN holds its own press conference at the Press Club before the event. Remember folks, the accusation against ACORN by the right is "voter fraud," but the more accurate accusation may be voter-registration fraud -- for which there appears to be plenty of checks in place to guarantee it doesn't turn into some actual voter fraud.

*** Senate watch: Today, we unveil our own Senate ratings. But they’re not really ratings, but rather groupings. In the Likely Dem category, we have Virginia and New Mexico. In the Competitive Leaning Dem category, we have Colorado, New Hampshire, Alaska, North Carolina, and Oregon. In the First Landslide Wave Watch, we have Minnesota and Mississippi. And in the Second Landslide Wave Watch, we have Georgia, Kentucky, and Maine (barely). The GOP’s only pick-up opportunity: Louisiana.

*** Trying to prevent a filibuster-proof majority: Speaking of the Senate… Politico reported last night -- and First Read confirmed the story -- that the Republican National Committee is pondering taking out a $5 million loan to spend on embattled Senate GOP incumbents to prevent the possibility of the Dems picking up a filibuster-proof majority. A senior GOP official tells First Read: “The RNC is going all in for McCain. The Committee had a record fundraising month in September -- raising over $66 million -- and is expected to have another record month in October. To help win in November, Republican officials are considering going an extra step and taking out a loan to help Senate candidates in some of the same states that will decide the Presidential election.” Clearly, the RNC does not want the message coming out of this loan story that somehow the party is starting to write off McCain and instead wants to lay the groundwork for a comeback in 2010 or 2012.

*** You can’t make this stuff up: The Democrat who succeeded GOP Rep. Mark Foley in 2006 -- Tim Mahoney -- is now embroiled in his own sex scandal.

Video: Florida Rep. Tim Mahoney calls for an ethics probe on himself after an ABC News report that he had an affair and then paid the woman to keep quiet. NBC's Mike Viqueira reports.

Mahoney's chances of holding onto this GOP-leaning congressional seat were actually looking up. Not anymore. By the way, the new favorite for the seat is Tom Rooney, who’s related to the Rooney family that owns the Steelers.

*** On the trail: McCain and Palin are both in Pennsylvania. McCain campaigns in Blue Bell, while Palin stumps in Scranton (two days after Biden was there). The duo then raises money in New York City. Obama is down in Ohio for his debate prep. But Biden makes three stops in Ohio, visiting Warren, Clairsville, and Marietta.

Throwing stuff at the wall to see what will stick indeed.

Obama IS the 'steady hand at the tiller' while McCain is simply throwing stuff to see what Americans will react to in a positive way -- so far, nothing he has thrown has stuck.

This, to me, is a clear message to the voters in America about whom will be the better president.

Chuck,
Even without your help, the country is waking up
to who the real Mccain is.
No matter what new tactic he tries next, he has
ruined his reputation with the unfounded, sleazy
attacks he has supported.
We are disgusted with the swiftboating and will
not support a person who participates and agrees
with it.
And, racism would not be such a big issue if the
media would stop sensationalizing it.
Nice that McCain is taking a somewhat serious shot at the economy today. But his proposals are merely a weak copy of Obama's plans and aren't being paid for with McCain's "no new taxes" pledge. Is he really that enamored with deficit spending?

http://www.political-buzz.com/
ACORN is a republican code word for black organization that helps low income people who aren't like the old white people that mccain is still clinging to...how about that republican/kkk voter drive in alabama and mississippi?
Such a disgusting dirty political trick that the repugnant ones are trying to pull whining about ACORN.  Why weren't they whining about this earlier?  No now when they're losing they pull the same old voter registration fraud complaint just before an election.  It's all about being bad sports.  So funny that they whine about voter fraud when they have perpetrated the worst voter frauds in history.

Hispanics are too smart to vote for the old geezer and his young wicked witch.  They're figuring out that repugnant ones are evil and hate people of color.

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!
Glad to see FR correct the ACORN issue.  And here's another shocker, McCain was WITH ACORN, before he was AGAINST them.  Is there any topic remaining that he hasn't 180'd on?

Can't wait for McCain's econ policy - how much of Obama's ideas will be 'lifted'?

I am sick of the unethical Republicans that run on 'values'.  McCain showed a lack of character by cheating/abandoning first family.  Palin shows a lack of character by LYING about the report findings that she acted unethically.  They really believe if they say it enough times it becomes truth; regardless of the facts.  And while I am disappointed in Mahoney, at least it was a willing partner, unlike vulnerable young pages.  Although, he still should get voted out - it's not quite the same crap that Foley pulled.
*
OBAMA IS TRYING TO STEAL THE ELECTION BY HAVING ACORN FRAUDULENTLY REGISTER VOTERS.
.
LEGITIMATE VOTERS MUST ASK THEMSELVES IF THIS IS THE KIND OF PRESIDENT THEY WANT?
.
ASK THEMSELVES WHO IS THIS OBAMA?
.
ASK THEMSELVES WHAT ARE OBAMA'S QUALIFICATIONS TO BE PRESIDENT?
.
ASK THEMSELVES ----  IS OBAMA REALLY BELIEVABLE & TRUSTWORTHY?
.
--- DON'T LET OBAMA & ACORN STEAL THIS ELECTION BY FRAUD ---

Going nuts, indeed...

Among the images and stories...

- McCain's picture at a 2006 ACORN rally.
- Gov. Rick Perry of Texas signing an ACORN-sponsored lending reform law in 2005.
- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California signing an ACORN-sponsored bill in July of this year.
- Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota signing an ACORN-sponsored bill in June 2007.
- Gov. Charlie Crist of Florida partnering with ACORN in March of this year for a "Homeownership Promotes The Economy" taskforce.
- Sen. Joe Lieberman meeting with an ACORN Katrina Survivors Association in February 2006.

Now, is the GOP going to try and convince me that all of the aformentioned names are suddenly radicals?
Wake up people!

This country is in trouble...Iran and Russia are like hungry dogs waiting for us to drop food to the floor...this man is not who he says he is and is placing our country in trouble. His affiliations hate America and likely he and his wife "finally proud of America" do too.

Imagine picking a doctor with no record...because of what he says he may be able to do...you wouldn't.
It seems Americans spend more time investigating where they can buy a good burger than who they will place at the top of their country.
FR: "Well, the campaign now says that McCain today will unveil a new set of economic proposals aimed at seniors..."

The Obama camp is holding in its back pocket the McCain statement that he wants to cut $1.3 trillion from Medicare. I don't know if that's been used in advertising, but if so, I haven't seen it. That significantly hurts McCain's chances in Florida as well as any longshot he might have had at winning Pennsylvania.

Then there's also McCain's erratic statements on Social Security. I heard some journalist over the weekend trying to pin a McCain surrogate down on just where he stands on Social Security. No answer, as you might guess.

But I have heard McCain say that the funding system for Social Security is a disgrace - the same funding system that has been in place since the program started. And he also has previously expressed support for Bush's partial privatization. So it would seem that McCain isn't completely supportive of the current program.
WHo the hell are they going to ask for a loan?  I can't get a business loan, a credit line, or an extension for ANYTHING right now.  If the RNC succeeds, I'd love the name and number of this agency so I can ask for matching funds

Get in the now...Obama/Biden

There will be voter fraud in Ohio and other states as well. ACORN, Obama's little cheating machine will see that the tables are tilted in his favor.

Safe to say, Obama's character, integrity and honesty come into question here. He presents himself well but he took classes to intimidate and manipulate and millions of Americans are falling for it. If elected I'm assuming this country will get what it wants .... a big dose of socialism. And Obama will give radical ACORN a voice in his administration.

Stick it to ACORN. Vote John McCain.

Isn't it funny that Charlie Christ thought it was better to go to DisneyWorld than go to a McCain event?  If the repugnant one Florida governor finds an excuse to bail on the Dumb and Dumber campaign then we know he's going to lose and lose big.

That's so funny that the RNC is even bailing out on the losing Dumb and Dumber ticket.  So many repugnant one's pundits are bailing out on the losing ticket.

When "Scarlet Letter" Sarah can't even admit the truth that she was found GUILTY on abuse of power we see how incompetent and unprepared she is to be VP or POTUS.  We can all thank her for sinking her running mate's campaign.  She's got a lot of blind ambition and puts herself before country that's for sure.  We need to find out how she got her home built in Wasilla as there are now reports she did it like her mentor Ted Stevens did, without paying for it.

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!
<<"Republican officials and advisers to Sen. John McCain have sought to paint the group -- which focuses on low-income housing, voter registration, the minimum wage and other issues -- as radical and have accused it of playing a role in the economic crisis...">>

Oh, so we can add ACORN to the list of people to blame for the economic crisis, too?  McCain's list grows comically with each passing day.
I really don't understand all the uproar over ACORN. Ok, so "Frankenstein" registered to vote - BIG DEAL! The face that he is registered doesn't mean that it's even possible for him to actually CAST a vote, because you need to show ID in order to do so.

Elections aren't won by how many people are REGISTERED to vote, they are won based on how many people actually show up to cast a ballot. So this is really much ado about nothing.
ACORN is a republican code word for black organization that helps low income people who aren't like the old white people that mccain is still clinging to...how about that republican/kkk voter drive in alabama and mississippi?

ACORN = Another Corrupt Obama Registeration Network.

Every American should be outraged at what this group is doing. They are ruining the process and making it hard for people to vote. Now, The repbulicans are going to be ( as they should ) watching and checking every ballot in all the swing states. What Obama and Acorn is doing is illegal ! thay all should be arrested.
I live in the swing state of Florida, in Pinellas County (I-4 corridor) -- the "Blind Ambition" ad by the McCain campgaign is playing nonstop on the radio. It highlights Obama's perceived relationship with Ayers.

If you believe that McCain has "put away the Ayers card" you are mistaken and buying into the McCain hype. Do your own research -- McCain in still dealing the Ayers card from the bottom of the deck in Florida.

whiining about ACORN??

Just because MSNBC chooses not to talk about it...doesn't mean its not real...

Obama is proving to be every bit as corrupt, with his winning at all costs"  mentality in several states as W was in Florida and Ohio.

Americans just keeps losing and stupidity reigns supreme.
I cannot wait to hear what all you followers will be  saying a few years from now...I promise you it won't be positive.

Newt Gingirch is just licking his chops waiting for his crack at POTUS...
McCain plans to focus on reducing government spending during a recession, which only proves how little he understands the economy.  At this time the LAST thing the government should do is to stop spending money, that only DEEPENS the recession.  On the other hand that tool has been severely damaged by the GW deficit-a-thon, as the government should have been lowering the deficit when the economy was better.  The Republicans gave away a lot of the economic stimulus benefits of deficit spending by running a deficit to benefit the rich through their tax cuts.
Hay if any party knows all about voter fraud it's the repuks.Florida 2000,Ohio 2004,and I 'll bet that this election will be no differant. But when you bring up the word Acorn you get the base juices flowing because they work in areas that repuks will not travel.Kind of like the messuring the drapes statement used yesterday, that comment is so old, older then the guy that used the term,Hard to belive anything is older then McGrumpy.Bomber what have you been throwing, sticky stuff, where did you get it?
Joe Scarborough is a fool! I don't know how he can spew his ignorance day in and day out. He pretty much said today that every vile negative attack is fair game even if it excites violence, just as long as it's levelled at black and white politicans from both aisles. He is for real? Or really does he read froma "stupid" script?
The Acorn issues makes okay headlines for the McCain campaign, but there are two things that they don’t tell us: First this is voter fraud only if the registrations get through a fairly tight system and then someone actually votes under the fraudulent, or in most case frivolous (Mickey Mouse) names. Second, the attacks on Acorn are meant as much to intimidate would potential legitimate voters, as it is to garner headlines.
They can throw smears, lies and dirt at the wall, and it won't stick, hasn't stuck, never will stick.  So they throw five million at the wall and looks to see if that sticks. What they need is a new pair of candidates something that will make 200 million Americans forget the last 8 years, and someintegrity.  Too bad they're as bankrupt on all those as so many people are on money in this repiglican-created mess.
Full Moon - Give it up!
"GOOD Morning Vietnam"!!!!!!!

...well, it feels like Vietnam, anyway. The McCain campaign's Minister of Proproganda -- Fieldmarshal Sarah Palin will unofficially kick off her very own Tet Offensive, in the latest round of mean spirited smears on Barack Obama -- it's all about Rev. Wright. They are already signaling through their surrogates that Wright is a valid issue. Look for Palin to be out on the stump, harping and hatemongering over some of Rev. Wright's more regretful sermons. I guess more racial epithets will be in order from Palin's Brown Shirts. I doubt Fieldmarshal Palin will take any steps to curb the "enthusiasm" of her more "devoted" followers. All the while, conveniently forgetting about her own very personal relationship with one "Pastor Muffee" (a practicing witch doctor and domestic terrorist in Kenya), now ministering to Palin at her own home church -- even going so far as to have Witch-Doctor Muffee preform a mini-exorcism on Sistah' Sarah, on camera, ostensibly so she would win the Governor's Office -- "Lord Make a Way, Lord Make a Way". No, the correct phraseology would be; "Lord Help us all, if this crazy, radical, unethical woman, of questionable intellect, ever gets elected as VP."

These republican clowns will stop at nothing to win this election and they grow increasingly desperate. The RNC knows it's "do or die", so no dirty trick is off the table if it gets McCain to the winner's circle.
ACORN = Another Corrupt Obama Registeration Network.

Fight McCain Fight !  Stand up for us AMERICANS!
Save this country from  people like Obama. We as Americans should DEMAND every ballot be throughly checked !
"Caveat: These polls seem a bit inflated compared with what the campaigns are showing internally."

First Read also dismissed the last Quinnipiac poll in Fl, OH and PA saying they were inflated. Every poll in PA since the last Quinnipiac poll in PA is now between 12 and 15 points.

MCcain's campaign claimed that Quinnipiac's polls were laughable last week, I guess they are not laughing now.

why is McCain fund raising in NEW YORK when he should be prepping for his debate? So what, he is going to stay up tiring his cheeks with smiles when he should be preparing for a debate on the ECONOMY, i.e. not his strong point? Who is advising this poor man? It's almost not fair. Remember how before the debate on foreign policy Obama was behind doors studying like crazy, as was Palin for hers? Well isn't this debate the one that McCain should be cramming for??
Whats the latest on the the lawsuit against Obama by attorney Philip Berg ? How far is obama and DNC going to go to cover up Obama's past ? When is the court date ? If Obama can't produce the necessary paperwork, who will the DNC replace him with.  This is big news and should be covered.
SARA, SARA, NO COMMENT !!! I SAID NO COMMENT !!! "TROOPER-GATE", WHERE DO THEY COME UP WITH THIS NONSENCE. OF COURSE I ABUSED MY POWER, THAT'S WHAT I'AM SUPPOSED TO DO. I'AM JUST FOLLOWING THE EXAMPLE OF GEORGE W. BUSH AND DICK CHANEY. IT APPEARS TO HAVE WORKED FOR THEM. EXCEPT "GONZO-GATE" WILL JUST NOT FADE AWAY.
(a package that some members of Congress have got to be wondering why there was a rush particularly since the plan keeps changing)
-------------------------------------------

I heard on the news last night how readily the English passed their bailout package and that they are implementing it very quickly.  When he heard that, the economist who won the Nobel Prize for Econ wondered "why can't we(US) do that?"

Isn't that a very good quesiton?
McCain has only himself to blame if there is a Hispanic gap - he has publicly stated he would not support his own freakin' immigration bill - the one with his own name on it !!!
Citizens that will vote for John McCain will in fact ignore that Iraq is a free and sovereign nation with our own elected officials.  It is time for the American army to leave Iraq.  We can never start to recover until America leaves.  John McCain and Bush have ignored the real needs of Iraqis after our election.  People are dying because America remains.
The issue with having someone register 73 times is not that they would vote that many times...but Dems can say voter registration is up by some rediculous percent and cause non Obama supporters to potentially stay home. Morever, with the way many polls are being conducted this year with their "likely voter categories" voter registration is being factored in. Clearly the math is flawed and Obama may not have the lead the MSM is feeding us everyday.
"Caveat: These polls seem a bit inflated compared with what the campaigns are showing internally."

Can you guys tell us what is a "bit inflated"? 1 point, 2 points ...6 points...
"Remember folks, the accusation against ACORN by the right is "voter fraud," but the more accurate accusation may be voter-registration fraud -- for which there appears to be plenty of checks in place to guarantee it doesn't turn into some actual voter fraud."
------------------------------------------------------
Exactly.

Come on, folks- a little common sense.  Anyone who has ever gotten signatures for petitions knows that inevitably you are going to get a "Mickey Mouse" or a "George Washington" on the rolls.  Are those going to count?  Of course not.  It's the same situation for groups like ACORN.  The false registrations get tossed, and no vote will be allowed for them.

And, I have to laugh at the persistent incompetence of the McCain campaign, for pushing this ACORN garbage, when their own candidate was featured so prominently in support of the organization.  The photo of Senator McCain "front-and-center" at the event is...priceless.  How did the campaign miss that?
Let's not forget what a strong conservative, Bill Kristol, has to say about McCain's campaign.
"The McCain campaign, once merely problematic, is now close to being out-and-out dysfunctional. Its combination of strategic incoherence and operational incompetence has become toxic. If the race continues over the next three weeks to be a conventional one, McCain is doomed."

If he can't run a campaign, how can he consider the presidency?
If Sarah Palin attacks Barack Obama on Rev. Wright then it's time to start the attacks against her and her witch doctor pastor.  Also - if she attacks again on association issues - attack her for her affiliation to the AIP and her close associate - member, Todd Palin.  She also wears her religion on her sleeve but doesn't seem to live by the words of God.  Sarah Palin is a vicious, manipulative and mean person - hardly what we want or need in government.
Obama presents the plan that is needed for this time. In focus, comprehensive and practical. But, since all efforts are directed at improving the short-term economy at the expense of the long-term economy, we need to quickly focus on what is wrong with the long-term economy. Two words come to mind. Bush and McCain.
The McCain/Palin campaign is at a point where they will try anything to stop the slide into obscurity that is going on.  Only the rabid members of their party could support the type of campaign that they are conducting.  McCain has no idea what to do to solve the economic crisis and has a "new proposal" every other day.  Sarah Palin is doing what she is expected to do - repeat the vitriol and stir up crowds.  We need steady, positive, realistic leadership.  Obama/Biden is the only answer.
If ACORN were a republican group, the media would be all over it. . .

If Barney Frank and Chris Dodd were republicans, the media would be all over them for blocking legislation that would have reined in Fannie and Freddie and averted this financial crisis. . .

If Obama were a republican, the media would have exposed his shortcomings, and he would not even have gotten the nomination. . .

Most of the electorate are fools who believe anything they are told, and the media are to blame for keeping them ignorant.  The Fourth Estate is supposed to be blind to political allegiances, and to deal with each individual in an even handed, non-biased manner.  Such ideals have been dead for a long time, but there has never been such blatant disregard for fairness and fact in an election period before this one.

I fear for the future of my country.
Just forget about it!  McCain/Palin are stirring dust hoping to blind the American People.  Since when can a person registered to vote 73 times, vote 73 times.  All the hoopla about ACORN is just another attempt at character asassination.  It won't/can't work, the American people have risen above all the lies the Republican campaign has spewed.  We are a great and progressive country and I aim to reach for the best and most intelligent, Senator Barack Obama and Senator Joseph Biden.  Tina in Tempe.
To: ACORN = Another Corrupt....Blah, Blah, Blah ...

No, I'm not outraged by the illegal registrations, because there are adequate checks and balances to counter this effect. What I am outraged by is the negative and even potentially harmful rhetoric of Sarah Palin from the McCain campaign.

Sen. Obama in his speeches and his actions wish to united the red states and blue states, the Repub and Dems, the blacks and whites, while McCain's camp seem to want to divide and conquer by hate mongering and rabble rousing. I choose to hope rather than hate and I believe that most Americans will vote the same way on Nov. 4th.

GO OBAMA/BIDEN
If McCain had a decent plan for improving the circumstances of the most disadvantaged Americans, the ACORN fuss would make no sense. He'd be as likely to get ACORN-registered votes as Obama would. McCain's (and Republicans') real concern is that the poor recognize which candidate gives a damn about their lives.

Beware pious claims about vote integrity when it only addresses a specific segment of the public. These claims are nothing but thinly disguised efforts at vote suppression, the antithesis of democracy.
I personally think that the root problem of the McCain camp is their contempt for the intelligence of the American people. They've played to the old stale philosophy of what unfortunately worked for 'G Dub' twice. And last time it succeeded only because of fear. We as a nation knew better than that, but didn't have the courage, or confidence to change "leadership" amid the crisis we were in.

We've been tried, and McCain and his 'Tucker Bound like' Aholes continue to insult the intelligence, and integrity of the American people. They figure they can do, or say anything and we'd take it at face value. Everything McCain has done thus far has been an insult to the collective mindset of the American People. {This guy picked someone to help lead this Country who is a total buffoon} His intent is exposed for what it really is. (Blind Ambition) That selection alone reveals that 'Country First' is the furthest thing from McCain's mind. We see through that. We've taken notice that his every move has been politically motivated, driven by his sense of entitlement to the presidency. We know better, and we deserve better.

The Repugnant's can hype themselves up all they want, and say this -being behind- is where McCain is strongest. Yeah ;), you're only fooling yourselves. We know better, but at this point I guess that's what he's gotta say.

This movement is to strong...

CHANGE IS ON THE HORIZON...

Thinking individuals who are well-informed and not emoting machines know that ACORN cannot "steal" the election for Obama. As FR noted, "voter registration fraud" is a far cry from voter fraud. It matters very little how many fraudulent applications are submitted, there are numerous safe-guards in place to keep 99.9% of those fraudulent registrants from voting more than once. It's going to take a lot more than bogus applicants to make a difference FOR McCain.

ACORN is a sideshow issue and so is William Ayers. Someone needs to educate Joe Scarborough on Morning Joe! He is so misguided about the impact of the hate speek coming from the McCain campaign.

Joe is comparing apples and oranges! Were Congressman Lewis's words harsh? You betcha. However, what would be really harsh is Obama ending up dead with multiple gun shot wounds because some crazed individual takes him out for the good of the country. Afterall, Sarah Palin said he is a terrorist sympathizer and after 9/11 that is a very sensitive subject. And Joe, it has very little to do with Obama being insulated by the media or reducing everything to a racial issue. It would be one thing to call Obama the "N" word all day long at the rallies, even bring the Curious George Monkey dolls dressed in Obama paraphenalia, but to shout "Terrorist", "Kill Him", "Traitor", "Off with his head"...that takes this thing to a whole new level.

A competitive campaign should not have to resort to scare tactics to win. McCain seems to come that realization a little late after spending days talking about Ayers, and Obama being a scarey candidate; he sees that strategy is not working. Oh well.

Obama and Biden have so much more to offer the country at this critical time in our history. We simply want to turn the page on Bush/Cheney and their failed policies.

BTW, Obama's next book should be titled:Final Verdict.
Hey, Chuck, love your work, but how about addressing this: You write, "(Caveat: These polls seem a bit inflated compared with what the campaigns are showing internally.)"

Care to clue us in as to what the campaign polls are saying? Do you have this?
WALL STREET JOURNAL.....During his tenure on the board of Chicago's Woods Fund, that body funneled more than $200,000 to Acorn. More recently, the Obama campaign paid $832,000 to an Acorn affiliate. The campaign initially told the Federal Election Commission this money was for "staging, sound, lighting." It later admitted the cash was to get out the vote.

The Obama campaign is now distancing itself from Acorn, claiming Mr. Obama never organized with it and has nothing to do with illegal voter registration. Yet it's disingenuous to channel cash into an operation with a history of fraud and then claim you're shocked to discover reports of fraud. As with Rev. Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers, Mr. Obama was happy to associate with Acorn when it suited his purposes. But now that he's on the brink of the Presidency, he wants to disavow his ties. NObama.
The Tim Mahoney sex scandal story is tragic and as a conservative I take no delight in someone's indiscretions which could destroy a family.  That being said, the media is once again showing its complete bias for democrats by keeping this as a backpage story, especially when there are whispers that Democratic leaders like Rob Emmanuel of Illinois knew of this scasndal some time ago and kept it secret.  Isn't this hyprocrisy the very thing Democrats accused Republicans of in 2006 which lead to their big gains in both houses? Didn't Pelosi and Reid promise us more integrity than ever?  And isnt' this coming on the heels of the John Edward's affair, the Charlie Rangel money scandal, the Detroit mayor affair...etc?  Why is this most recent scandal not being "shouted from the rooftops" like the Mark Foley scandal and others involving Republicans?   Will the media ever even approach objectivity again?
