The latest New York Times/CBS poll finds Obama leading McCain by a whopping 14 points among likely voters, 53%-39%. The Times attributes the margin, in part, to McCain’s negative attacks backfiring. “Six in 10 voters surveyed said that Mr. McCain had spent more time attacking Mr. Obama than explaining what he would do as president; by about the same number, voters said Mr. Obama was spending more of his time explaining than attacking… Voters who said their opinions of Mr. Obama had changed recently were twice as likely to say they had grown more favorable as to say they had worsened. And voters who said that their views of Mr. McCain had changed were three times more likely to say that they had worsened than to say they had improved.”

“The top reasons cited by those who said they thought less of Mr. McCain were his recent attacks and his choice of Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska as his running mate… But in recent days, Mr. McCain and Ms. Palin have scaled back their attacks on Mr. Obama, although Mr. McCain suggested he might aggressively take on Mr. Obama in Wednesday’s debate.”

Meanwhile, a new Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll has Obama up nine points among likely voters, 50%-41%. “Obama improved sharply over the last month among independent voters, a much-desired bloc. McCain carried them by a 15-point margin in September; in this poll, Obama led among that group by five points. Men, too, moved toward Obama, with the traditionally Republican-leaning group now in his camp. He also maintained his lead among female voters.”

COLORADO: The Rocky Mountain News digs into those new Quinnipiac numbers for the state. The poll "found unaffiliated, or independent, voters favoring Obama 51 percent to 40 percent. In August, when a Quinnipiac poll found the candidates in a statistical dead heat, unaffiliated voters were more evenly split, with 46 percent supporting McCain and 44 percent Obama."

FLORIDA: The Miami Herald previews the GOTV efforts of both campaigns. For Obama: "Starting next week, the campaign aims to catch voters from all walks of life by sending ''town criers'' on city buses, offering shuttle service from college campuses to early voting locations, leafleting at beauty salons and barber shops, and hosting barbecues after church services."  And for McCain: "With less money to spend on television and staff, the McCain campaign said it has preserved its firepower for the final stretch. Advisors said Florida voters should expect frequent visits from McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and increased visibility by former Gov. Jeb Bush. U.S. Reps. Lincoln Diaz-Balart and Mario Diaz-Balart, both facing reelection challenges, called off a Friday."

INDIANA: Early voting in the Indianapolis metro area is starting out strong

MISSOURI:  Playing offense? Rumor has it that an Obama visit to Kansas City is in the works for the weekend.

NEW MEXICO: Check out this smart Slate piece on New Mexico, and why it's the little threads that matter for this big cultural quilt.

NORTH CAROLINA: In North Carolina, the tally so far comes to 135 bogus voter registration forms handed in by ACORN canvassers.

OHIO: The Boston Globe's Helman looks at the growing exurbs outside Columbus. "This region of Columbus, 15 miles from the city center, typifies the so-called exurbs, the fast-growing outskirts quickly becoming major population centers - and thus major centers of political, social, and economic influence - in the United States. It is here where you'll find scores of swing voters in arguably the biggest swing state of them all. Conversations with them yesterday suggest many have yet to swing, despite the fact that Election Day is less than three weeks away."

County to watch Alert: "Delaware County, which includes these outer stretches of Columbus and towns to the north, voted for President Bush by wide margins in 2004 and 2000, but it is hard to know whether that pattern will hold this year, because it has changed so rapidly - the population of the county rose 50 percent from 2000 to 2007."

VIRGINIA: "The State Board of Elections yesterday adopted a policy that would bar from the polls the wearing of campaign materials that expressly advocate a candidate" MORE: "Jean Cunningham of Richmond, chairwoman of the board, said no one would lose the right to vote under the new policy. Election officials should keep "choir robes" or some other clothing at the polls so people wearing materials that promote a candidate could cover them up before voting, she said."

********************************************************

Wow.  Whopping indeed.

http://thepajamapundit.com/
Obama 53% - Mccain 39%!
McCain acknowledged Obama won on second debate! But the new debate, he prepared seriously! Watch interview on CNN here: http://tubedirect.net/index.php?q=McCain:-Obama-won-debate  (video)
CBS and NYTimes. Aren't these the same "news" organizations that fabricated total lies about Bush (Forged National Guard records, anyone remember that?) and told lies about McCain having an affair with a staffer. Didn't CBS and Dan Rather announce the Florida voting results in 2000, in Gores favor of course, before the voting was even done in the conservatice panhandle area? Why would anyone in the world believe these ridiculous slime machines?
FR: "...in recent days, Mr. McCain and Ms. Palin have scaled back their attacks on Mr. Obama, although Mr. McCain suggested he might aggressively take on Mr. Obama in Wednesday’s debate."

So many points to make.

First, McCain may have scaled back his attacks in recent days, but it doesn't matter. He's now the negative, angry guy. And voters don't seem prepared to give him yet another mulligan on this.

McCain seems to think so long as he isn't lying and sliming today, all he did yesterday will be forgotten. Sorry, but most voters don't have alzheimer's.

Second, McCain didn't suggest he might attack Obama tonight with the guilt by association stuff. He said he would. Just like he said he would before the second debate.

As we saw with the second debate, John McCain saying he will do something really doesn't mean you can count on John McCain actually doing it.

But this time, I suspect he will. Obama and Biden pretty much assured that, with a common playground taunt. "He doesn't have the nerve to say that to my face."

The question isn't whether John McCain has the nerve; its whether he has the stupidity. But for a guy like McCain, stupidity never gets in the way of responding to a playground taunt, so he'll probably do it.

Third, why did Obama and Biden give McCain that playground taunt? Because for reasons I suggested above, they suspect it will work.

If nothing else, we should ask ourselves if we want a president who someone else can get to do pretty much anything they want simply by throwing down a playground taunt.

For me, I'd rather have someone more mature and reasoned.
I have to thank the bomber for the jump in the polls, also a shout out goes to the attack Sled Dog Sarah, she is like the gift that keeps on given. You have resorted to Attacking Obama in a manner that has turned Americans off, execpt for a few rednecks in red states. While attack girl countinues to inflame the base standing by letting the racist comments be shouted out and wears them like a badge of honor. Live by the sword ,you know the rest.
This is probably the peak for Obama - I can't really see the numbers getting much higher. But I also don't think they will drop much at this point. His lead seems to be VERY solid and consistent, even with all the economic and political twists and turns lately.

1) The Republican's fundamental philosophy of trickle down economics and total deregulation has now been completely disproven. It does NOT work!

2) Barack Obama's economic UNQUESTIONABLY does more for the middle class.

3) Obama's foreign policy judgment has been shown to be correct on everything from not going into war in the first place, to having a timetable for withdrawal, to meeting with Iran (which Bush is now doing).

4) McCain has FAILED his 3AM crisis exam - his response to the economic crisis has been incoherent and inconsistent.

At this point, these are the factors that are driving voters to Obama, and they aren't the type of things that McCain can "undo" in the remaining three weeks. The die has been cast, the race is over.

Jean Cunningham of Va Board of Elections: "Election officials should keep 'choir robes' or some other clothing at the polls so people wearing materials that promote a candidate could cover them up before voting."

You gotta be kidding me. Sigh. Honestly, we weren't always such a silly state.

Ban partisan poll volunteers altogether. That makes sense, because I'm really not sure volunteers handing out sample ballots are really doing anything to help our democracy. I've worked precinct polling places before. Its pretty slimy stuff - just trying to get that last dig in on the uninformed who get out of their cars not even knowing the names on the ballot they're minutes away from casting.

But here's typical governmental stupidity for you. The concern is that one of those poll volunteers will actually come inside the school or church, wearing one of their buttons. Oh my gosh! So to stop that atrocity from happening, every precinct now is going to keep a supply of choir robes?

And forget the poll workers; even the simple voter who just wants to wear a campaign t-shirt or button that day will have to put on one of those robes?
And yet, when we are shown polls on 'Race for the White House' by your new anchor, David Gregory, they are polls
1.  from North Carolina that a week old, and

2. from Virginia that is TWO weeks old.

coincidentally, those are the last polls in either state to show McCain with a lead, altho there was one more recent poll in NC to show a tie.  Every other more recent poll in both states shows an Obama lead.

Perhaps you can explain why your station has decided to mislead viewers this way.
It should be pointed out that everyone holding/hosting events for Senator Obama are not "all" paid. The Majority are people who are donating time to his campaign because they support him. In this regard? It should fall to the fault of the McCain campaign that they are unable to compete.
>>>But in recent days, Mr. McCain and Ms. Palin have scaled back their attacks on Mr. Obama...
==========
You couldn't tell by looking at my TV.  They just rolled out the first of the Rezko ads.  At this point I suppose they figure if they're going to lose, they may as well go down in a blaze of "glory?".

>>>NORTH CAROLINA: In North Carolina, the tally so far comes to 135 bogus voter registration forms handed in by ACORN canvassers.

==========
Which just goes to prove what every sensible person has been saying on this issue.  If the forms are being caught, it isn't VOTER FRAUD.  At best, it's REGISTRATION FRAUD since a person would actually have to show up at the polls and illegally attempt to vote.

Obama/Biden '08!
http://jawillie.blog.com
It's been 30 days since the 9/15/08 McNasty campaign meltdown, yeah 30 days in the hole for McNasty and he won't be able to dig himself out in the 20 days left.

It is so gratifying to see the red battleground states going more and more towards blue.  It will indeed be a change election as we get a change of party in the White House.

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!
you can't explain what you don't have.
Of course it's negativity back firing. No one wants to hear that, except for some 'Right Wing' head cases.

This Country has learned its lesson of the past 8 years, and we realize that what we need is not someone of average or below intellect. We need someone who is cerebral, who is diverse, who is truly about the people...

Obama has spent his entire adult life serving people, not because he had to, but because it's what's in him. And for the Repugnants to suggest otherwise is simply distasteful, as well as an insult to all who truly values the good of people.

This movement is too strong...
The times are too urgent...
And the youth of this Nation has proven to be wiser than its elders, for "we didn't create this mess, we inherited it".

We would be fools as a Nation to continue down the same dark paths of the past, expecting change to come...

Change is but 20 days away.

Obama/Biden 08
McCain still has a shot at this thing if the Anerican people will finally wake up. Every liberal poll has Barack up by 8 to 10 points. Conservative polls have him up by 3 to 4 and independents 5 to 6 points. Who really knows where the ax will fall?
I'm worried about my 401K..did John McCain propose I could not take that money out of those account until I'm 70 and half years old?..It's my money in a non government regulated account..what's next ? What happened?
Thank the powers to be Social Security hasn't lost any money?
<<"With less money to spend on television and staff, the McCain campaign said it has preserved its firepower for the final stretch.">>

How much firepower can a cap gun produce again?
Obama so has this thing wrapped.  I have liked Obama since Febuary this year and I will vote for him in November.  I think he will do the best job of the two candidates.  That isn't really saying much considering who he is running against and who is opponent represents.  I hope that after he wins that he shows I was right and he does good by all standards.
"U.S. Reps. Lincoln Diaz-Balart and Mario Diaz-Balart, both facing reelection challenges, called off a Friday."

Man, them's some powerful congressmen, able to cancel an entire day! What did they do about the resulting hole in our calendars?
“The top reasons cited by those who said they thought less of Mr. McCain were his recent attacks and his choice of Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska as his running mate…
-------------------------------------------
This says it all for me. Initially, I supported Sen McCain because some of Sen Obama's views on certain issues are more liberal than mine.  I was fully prepared to vote for Sen McCain until he chose the inexperienced Gov Palin as his running mate.  The fact that she has been such a negative force in the campaign, and has really aroused such hateful, intolerant views in  her supporters, has greatly troubled me.  We don't need someone "polarizing" us--we need someone who will unite us.

I still think Gov Palin could help her party most by deciding to call it quits.

Obama is 10 times the man McSame could EVER be! More intelligent, more caring, less petty, better judgement(Biden over that hypocritical lying sac "christian" it almost seems a sacrilidge to refer to her as such)Obama will be our next President because he is more qualified and genuinely cares about the middle class and the poor. The Gop had the whitehouse for the last 8 years and ran this country into the ground....our turn.
On Drudge, Rassmussen has it 50-45 Obama, and Zogby has it 48.2-44.4 with 7.4 unsure. And I see allot more McCain signs around Iowa than Obiden signs. I heard a report that once CNN pulled some Repubs from their polling data Obamas numbers shot way up.

Yep, with 20 days left this is a slam-dunk for Barack.
It's funny how these polls call 1200 people. We call 1200 people in a DAY.
