Biden uses history to compare attacks

From NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Launching his own closing argument today, Biden compared the attacks against Obama to those leveled in the campaigns of the nation’s greatest presidents, claiming that the “defenders of the status quo have always tried to dear down those who would change our nation for the better.”

Sharing “a little bit of history” with an audience at East Carolina University, Biden said that opponents of Thomas Jefferson claimed he “wasn’t a real Christian”; Franklin Roosevelt’s critics warned he “would destroy the American system of life”; and the unnamed “they” said that John F. Kennedy would be a “dangerous choice in difficult times.”

“Sound familiar?” Biden asked. “New ideas and new leaders are often met with new attacks, and almost always negative attacks built on lies, which are the last resort of those who have nothing new to offer. And that’s where we find ourselves. But, folks -- as a nation, as a nation, we’ve always been able to rise, throughout our history … above the destructive politics and elect the right leader at the right time for the right reasons.”

As Biden criticized the practitioners of the politics of division, which he said has been the hallmark of the Republican Party for the past 15 years, he also curiously included a television interviewer, Barbara West of WFTV-TV in Florida, among the culprits.

“I know this has been a pretty mean campaign,” he said. “I was on a television station the other day doing a satellite fed to a major network in Florida, and the anchor quotes Karl Marx, and says in a sense, 'Isn’t Barack Obama Karl Marx?'… Folks, this stuff you’re hearing, this stuff you’re hearing in this campaign, some of it’s pretty ugly. And some of the innuendo is pretty ugly.”

Republicans swiftly reacted to Biden’s comments, with McCain campaign spokesperson Ben Porritt drawing attention to the fact that Biden has largely avoided taking questions from reporters that accompany him throughout the country, and “is now attacking any reporter who challenges Barack Obama’s economic plan to raise taxes.”

Today, Biden also mirrored the closing pitch of his running mate, saying the election offers a choice “between doing the same thing we’ve done the past eight years and expecting a different outcome, or choosing to tap into the oldest, oldest American belief of all – that we do not have to accept things the way they are.”

“The real question is how can we be better off four years from now?” he said.

Referring to McCain’s statement Sunday on Meet the Press -- that he and President Bush “share a common philosophy” -- Biden added: “George Bush voted early in the presidential race, and that he said that he was voting for John McCain. I guess that’s what you call returning the favor, because he deserves that vote!”

That's great! The McCain campaign is now focused on attacking Biden instead of Obama. It's a sign the Obama campaign has truly outmaneuvered McCain at every level. The fact that McCain is wasting time on Biden means that Biden is doing a great, great job.

Oh, and Biden's completely right, too.
I agree I am an independent voter supporting Obama. I like so many independent voters are tired of the sick games coming out of the McCain camp, dirty!!!. I just dont understand that Sarah Palin talks about other people in a very disturbing way and yet she is the one that was found guilty of abusing her powers. I trully belive that Sarah Palin is the reason not many people will support this ticket. Sarah Palin has become a liability not a plus. Sad!!! I urge all independent voter to say NO and reject the McCain/Plain ticket. Even her state newspaper said that Sarah Palin wil be a risk, I agee
One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.

Now get out and VOTE EARLY on your own time, not when you have to. There will be record turnout and LONG LONG lines. Vote Early!!!

Obama/Biden 08 & 12
Another rumor debunked...

So... where is the "tightening?"

Today is the day your friendly media moguls roll out the "tightened" campaign for fun and profit.

Here's the real news:  It ain't tightening.  Not. Tightening.

Of course, we refer to tightening polls... that means numbers.  It ain't happening.

Check out what my friend Chris Bowers writes today:

"Worried about "the tightening?"

Well, Obama's national lead has been stable at 7% for a month now. The national campaign is not tightening, and we are just seeing statistical noise.

Even if the campaign were tightening, Obama would still have a comfortable national lead. According to polling conducted over the weekend during the tracking poll "tightening," Obama reaches 264 electoral votes in states where he leads by 9.5% or more, passes 277 in Virginia where he leads by 8.0%, and hits 286 in states where he leads by 7.3% or more. So, he is actually doing even better in the Electoral College, where 270 votes are needed to win, than he is doing in national polls where he leads by 7%.

Sound too good to be true? It isn't."

Sorry Sumner Seebee S and all the boys at GE trying to make that 3rd quarter report just a little bit better.  Sorry fellows.  Really.

It will be a 7-9% overall popular victory for Obama and at least 300 electoral votes in the bank (as it were).

And that is with the MSN ignoring the election stealing campaign run by the Rovites right under their runny noses... watch those 200k new registrations disappear in Ohio... and guess what:  Obama wins anyway.

BTW, Joe, plumber dude,

tighten this.

“is now attacking any reporter who challenges Barack Obama’s economic plan to raise taxes.”

No he wasnt..he is pointing out your tactics of lies, innuendos and hate.  From what I have seen he actually answers questions...unline Ms Isolation Palin.

Repubs are getting pathetic..

'Reformer with results' = George Bush
'Secretary of Evil' = Dick Cheney
'Maverick' = John McCain
'Just Plain Stupid' = Sarah Palin

What a group of 'All Stars', huh ?

Throw in Rudy Giuilani, Fred Thompson, Tom Tancredo  and Willard Romney....

A 'Creepublican Bonanza' !!
Poorly Managed Campaign and No Ideas

Think of this. The McCain campaign understands tha tthe recent attacks against Obama have not worked. The strategy to use Joe the Plumber and Palin's strategy to try and paint Obama as Anti-Amercian have not worked. Attacking Obama's tax plans and other positions of Obama have not worked. Yet McCain and his campaign try to close this campaign using the same old arguements and attack ads. There is nothing new. This in itself tells you that McCain and Palin have no creativity or leadership ability to incite further support. If any one of us blogging on this site were candidates for President, were behind in the polls, and saw that our strategies to date were not working, would we stay with the same old tactics? Hardly. Don't we expect our Presidential and VP candidates to be brighter, more knowledgable and more adept when it comes to running a campain (and a country)? And people wonder why McCain and Palin are being rejected.
Come on Biden, man up and answer the questions from the nice lady interviewer in Flordia. What a huge mistake it was to put this has-been, never-was, on the ticket. The only thing Biden can be proud of in his career is that he managed to fool the people of Delaware into voting for him all these years. What a mistake this man will be if he's VP. That's all he has is pure hate for anyone that disagrees with him.

You want to see an awesome closer argument, the wassup guys are back.

http://www.wassup08.com/index.html

Well, come on Joe, isn't what Obama is pushing the same thing as Karl Marx? Redistribution of wealth? That is a  marxist concept. That's taking property from people that produce wealth, and giving it to people that don't. We see how that's worked out where ever it's tried. Russia, Cuba, Venezuela. Venezuela with all of it's oil riches can't even keep the electricity on. The list of countries that Obama wants to mimic is a long list, a long list of total failures.

Other countries are in debt up to the eye balls for their socialist programs. France and Canada are two. They can't even defend themselves because they gave up on having any kind of military decades ago.

Obama is complete fool. Biden is just his court jester.
Joseph, Joseph, Joseph.....I am voting for you, but you simply must get your history correct.  Thomas Jefferson was NOT A CHRISTIAN.  He was a Deist, along with many of our founding fathers, including Ben Franklin, Ethan Allen, and others.  Jefferson characterized organized religion as "that special tyranny over the minds of men"  and for that and many, many other public comments, he was regularly pilloried in the press of the day.  If you don't believe me, then buy a copy of the Jefferson Bible.  Many of these men did not accept the divinity of Christ -- especially Jefferson.  It's just a plain old fact.

Ethan Allen had a particularly interesting letter writing episode with his son, a Christian.  Upon receiving one of his father's letters, the younger Allen wrote back "so we should kill all the Christians?" (I'm parahrasing here) and his father replied in the affirmative.  Crazy stuff, but all historically accurate.

But without men like Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys, we don't win the Revolutionary War.
I love the fact that Biden gave the Florida Anchor a reverse of Chris Matthews on Hardball style interview. He made her look like a complete fool. And once you investigated her you then realize why her questions were as they were; her husband works for the bush republican party.

Sometimes it is not a good idea to think that everyone is like Michele Bachaman

---------------------------

You have to wonder about Republicans who would highlight when Dems do something, but when they (shall we say Palin for example) don't answer any questions at all.

Hypocrit much?
McCain will carry on failed policies, he is erratic, never right on the economy, etc.

Palin is stupid, racist, unequalified, spends too much on clothest, etc.

Vast right wing conspiracy...

Joe Biden: thank you for pointing out past distortions that are analagous to those now being used against McCain and Palin.
gObama
Let's talk about those BORROW and SPEND, BIG GOVERNMENT republicans..do we really want 4 more years? Or we could talk about "redistribution of wealth in Alaska", where money is taken from those big oil companies and redistributed to the residents. Is that okay with you republicans?
Biden: “New ideas and new leaders are often met with new attacks,"

New ideas?!? These aren't new ideas Biden. These are the same ideas socialsts have come up with for centuries now. And if it's one thing that has been proven, we know that those ideas don't work. Obama and Biden have yet to meet a new idea, they haven't come close to having one yet.
The Repukes are constantly on the negative slanderous attack.  They need to clean up their own house which is rife with real garbage!  Starting with the current administration!  Don't leave out:

Sarah the Baracuda-Sarah the Pit Bull-Sarah the Abuser of Power-Sarah the Diva-Sarah the Liar, and lastly, this woman, part-time mother, is a disgrace.

Folks, Vote the Straight Democratic Ticket, and throw out ALL the Repukes!
First off, I'm not planning to vote for either party's front-runner this year.  Niether candidate is truly qualified to do an executive job.  As we all know, lawyers are very good at telling us what they think we want to hear -- and Obama/O'Biden is no different.  What little they have said leaves me to believe that they're going to change our country so fundamentally as to promote socialism/fascism -- political systems that have failed elsewhere, and in a negative-export country like ours, it will fail miserably.  They also imply a need to change the Constitution so as to empower the government to do what it thinks it can -- rather than following its bounds as currently prescribed.

America, if you want to become slaves of the state, then you deserve these guys and their loose-lipped political promises and faux pas.  Many of us think our rights are violated for telephone wire-tapping -- just wait until Obama and Biden strip your first, second, and tenth Amendment rights away.

No, I will be voting a write-in this year -- voting for the person I think WOULD be the best person for the job -- not just the best person on the ticket, for I see none on the ticket that I think would do a really good job.

With the ‘surge’ of teen pregnancies in the Republican camp – eight years may very well be a ‘generation’.  Okay, tacky joke; but I haven’t had my caffeine, yet.

Joey Biden: Sharing “a little bit of history” with an audience at East Carolina University, Biden said that opponents of Thomas Jefferson claimed he “wasn’t a real Christian”; Franklin Roosevelt’s critics

Didn't Roosevelt tell us about the start of the Great Depression on TV in 1932?

Listening to Biden tell us about history is a little like having Barney the Dinosaur explain evolution.

Clearly they've mistaken Biden for their "diva" candidate, Sarah Palin.  Besides, if Biden actually was avoiding questions, how can they seemingly air every gaffe he makes almost the instant it parts his lips.

The truth is he's right.  Isaac Newton was deemed a heratic for suggesting that the Earth revolved around the sun instead of the other way around.  Jesus Christ was nailed to the cross for going against the status quo of the Roman Empire.  The point is that people who offer ideas that go against establised norms, or are merely different than the norm themselves, are often attacked with lies and threatened with violence (sound familiar).  Sadly, it is the McCain/Palin campaign that has continued this tradition.

Obama/Biden '08!
GO JOE....Beat this one John and Sarah!!!!!!
Speaking of attacks, Biden is using the tried and true attack of being a populist, even though he's as big a Washington Insider Establishment guy there ever was. Being a populist like Obama is so easy, you never have to take responsibility for your actions, or in this case, lack of actions. Just blame the other guy, sprew some rhetorical garbage that you're for something called 'Change' and promise everyone everything. It all works until you have to make good on your promises, which Obama has no chance and no inclination of doing. Then, just like with James Earl Carter, the wheels fall off the whole thing.
Speaking of closing agruments, a group of us Arizonans just returned from early voting.  YES OF COURSE we voted for OBAMA/BIDEN and for every democrat on the ballot.   We voted in AJ.  There was a wait, but not too bad.   The folks there were very nice and helpful.   About 15 more votes for our guys from dems, reps and indy's.  OBAMA/BIDEN.
Biden is speaking Truth! Republican are liars, cheats and Thieves! Always spreading racist, fear and war!
I am a Christian Sunday School teacher in a moderate church and am voting for Obama. Where does anyone get off thinking that one person is more Christian than the other. The Supreme Court makes the decsion on abortion and all schools that teach lawyers are liberal unless you go to Oral Roberts University. I feel that Obama's perspective is very Christian and am frankly turned off by the conservitive people. Come on, there are other issues than abortion. How about health care? How about taxing the rich more? Let's stay focused on all of the population of Americans instead of the Christian right. I am insulted that people think if I vote for Obama that I am not as good a Christian as them. Come on get a new platform.
When does the "Obama will raise taxes" crap stop? How many times does he have to restate his tax policy? Are they as ignorant as Sarah Palin who thinks that dinosaurs and people roamed the earth 4,000 years ago? Can't they read, listen, comprehend? This is what we should vote for? You've got to be kidding!

Old, still working, white woman
Biden is speaking Truth! Republican are liars, cheats and Thieves! Always spreading racist, fear and war!
Is this the change we need? Obama talking about the means (Legislative vs. Judicial) to the end (redistribution of wealth).

Awesome, Joe! You are a wonderful, devoted public servant, and a great running mate for Obama. The message about us not accepting the way things are is right on. We will change - yes, we will! Yes we can!
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome.  So voting Republican again and expecting NOT to get 4 more years of the same republican policies would be insanity. Vote Obama/Biden.  I've already voted...I'd encourage everyone who can to do the same!
To quote Biden: "-- as a nation, as a nation, we’ve always been able to rise, throughout our history … above the destructive politics and elect the right leader at the right time for the right reasons".

I thought he was smarter than that, but it looks like he's forgetting 2000 and 2004.
Biden is absolutely right! Looks like republicans claim to own God, Country and Guns and sort of live in a make believe world where anyone like them or who likes them is pro-america! Isn't true Bible spirit is in the art and feeling of giving as well as uplifting everyone who is poor & needy! Oh we are christian only when it divides us! Otherwise they can even label bible as 'socialist', christian faith as marxism, and may be 'Christ' an elitist who stood up for the poor and needy! Way to go true believers! Time to show Hypocrites that their time has come!
Yahoos and banjos and GOP working on new
title for Obama, (Communist)
we can be on the way to being better off, with a balanced budget, if we elect Obama/Biden!

Get out there and vote America!
It's good that Biden can quote from the interview, as he hasn't the stones to put up with tough questions.  Had McCain or Palin asked Charlie Gibson or Katie Couric who wrote their questions, as Biden did in a Florida TV interview, all hades would have blown up.  Bottom line:  The media wants Obama and will stop an nothing to get him in office, even ignoring gaffes by his ticket and their disrespect for any hard media questions.  MSNBC hasn't even mentioned Biden's interview, the cancelling of future interviews with that station, or the refusal of the campaign to speak on Fox or any agency that will not bow down to them.  (Yes, Obama did 1 interview with O'Reilley, but how many did Palin HAVE to do with the others?  What about McCain?) Obama may have the speaking ability to become President, just not the guts.
By Biden referencing: “George Bush voted early in the presidential race, and that he said that he was voting for John McCain. I guess that’s what you call returning the favor, because he deserves that vote!”

LOL...McCain deserves a Nursing Home.John McCain has nothing new to offer.
Moose head Sarah deserves impeachment.

Complacency is definitely not what we need with eight days to go. Eight days will be here before we know it. As many of us have already seen in previous elections, the GOP will do everything to steal and delay the democratic process.
Now is not time for nervousness; rather convert the nervousness to action and courage. The majority of Americans see the COURAGE Obama has to tackle the GOP. We must follow suit. This consistency has shown Obama’s COURAGE underlies McCain’s erratic, pitch, and lurching efforts to cause division between rich, middle class and the poor in our nation.

Reminiscent of "Give 'em hell, Harry!"

(And that's what he's doing.)

Way to go, Joe!
It's not just the campaign, it's been a mean 8 years. And if McCain wins it's sure to be more of the same. Here are some snapshots set to music showing why I'll be voting against McNasty and his Right Wing pals.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8gJ_rPHXtk

Please pass the link on to anyone who needs a reminder of what we've endured and will continue to endure if McCain wins this election.
Joe is correct in his description of Presidents in our nations past who have supported change, and a new path forward. These past Presidents would have been very proud of Obama, if they were still alive today. Obama will make his mark on history, and we the people are going to see great results in the future.
Joe, you forgot the dirty campaign against Andy Jackson where they accused him of not being legally married to his wife. Grover Cleveland was taunted with "ma, ma, where's my pa" when it was learned that he had an illegitamate son. The Cleveland supporters responded with "Gone to the White House ha, ha, ha."

In these days of Internet and speed of light media nastyness can be more intense, spread faster, and reach more people. The same methods of spreading the vitriol can be used to quash it.

Sister Sarah, Tito, Joe the Plumber. I agree Joe Biden. The attacks are sickening and disgusting against hard working American citizens. Stand up Joe! Let'em see you and hear you say it. Our stomachs are full of this tasteless, racist, bitterness we are seeing from the Obama Team and ACORN. Make them stop if Great Wizard.
Seen part of that interview. Barbara West sure seemed like she was auditioning for Fixed Noise.
Ohhh, now I see what's actually going on! The media is not in for Obama, they're afraid of Obama.  They'll probably start attacking this Florida reporter like they did Joe the plumber.  The Obama campaign has already boycotted this station simply because they had the guts to ask tough questions. So I guess America's "Free Press" (abc, cbs, nbc) is afraid of the ramifications of bringing up what the Obama campaign does not want to talk about.
Among the questions:

"Aren't you embarrassed by the blatant attempts to register phony voters by ACORN, an organization that Barack Obama has been tied to in the past?"

"How is Sen. Obama not being Marxist if he intents to spread the wealth around?"

"Are you forewarning Americans that .. American's days as a world's leading power are over?"

I suprised one of the questions wasn't about when Obama stopped beating his wife!  This style of questioning brings new meaning to Bush League!  It is clear that the right is goint to go down to defeat and in so doing destroy the Republican party.  It is time for centrist Republicans to standup and tell Barbara West, Sarah Palin and those of their ilk to shut the hell up and grow up.
Biden compared Obama to Thomas Jefferson, Mccain shot back, "I knew Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson was a friend of mine and Barak Obama's no Thomas Jefferson. (I thought I would try to get this out ahead of Jay Leno
Joe Biden giving a history lesson?  Who'd he say was the first prsident, Bozo the Clown?

If Biden wants a history lesson, he should check out the Constitution.  Cutting off television stations because you don't like the questions they ask you is unAmerican, and something our Framers sought to proscribe.

Here's another little history lesson-Income Taxes were declared unconstitutional on five separate occasions by five different Supreme Courts.  How, then, did we come to the system we have now?  Woodrow Wilson, and a Democratic congress, added an income tax amendment to the Constitution.

As far as getting the right president at the right time-well, I lived through the late '70's, and, believe me, I regretted ever voting for Jimmy Carter.  If there was ever an example of the wrong guy getting elected, he was it.  Don't take my word for it-go ask some of the people who were held hostage in Iran because he believed that the Shah was not a nice man.  The prospect of a nuclear armed Iran has arisen because of Carter; the Ayatollah Khomeini would have died of old age in France, and there would never have been an Islamo-facist revolution, had we had the sense to return Gerald Ford to office.  My excuse is that I was only 18, and too naive to know better.  Frighteningly, we are in the same position today.

The stakes are high in this election.  We have enemies who want to destroy us, and a presidential candidate whose own running mate declares him unfit to face the challenge.

We have an electorate divided between those who would be thieves of others' wealth and possession, and they call it fairness.

We have a ticket that shows utter disregard for truth, whose followers, including the media, deny their falsehoods, telling the rest of us that up is down, wrong is right, and that we should just follow along, or we're racists.

I can only pray that enough people wake up in time-there's plenty of 'change' in the aftermath of a train wreck, but most people want to avoid it.
As every day goes by, Biden sounds more and more like the biggest idiot on the planet. He makes Quayle look like Einstein.
