A jury found Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens (R) guilty on all seven counts in his federal corruption trial. He was convicted of lying about $250,000 of gifts and renovations on his Alaska home.

Video: Alaska's Sen. Ted Stevens has been found guilty on seven counts of making false statements. NBC's Pete Williams reports.

This conviction boosts the prospects of Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich (D) defeating Stevens in next week's Senate race.

YES!
Silly Sarah:  Didn't you have some work done on your home by a contractor who earned a government bid. Hope you saved your bills and receipts.
YIPPEE!  There's another Senate Seat for the Dems!  Come on Alaska, you know you want change as much as the rest of us!
----
Jaycee, Ventura - your points on First Read today (10-27-08) are well made.  McCain is the epitome of a disorganized candidate.  His answer to everything is to 'freeze frame' until he has time to figure out what is going on.  "Suspend Campaign" four days after crisis is public.  "Freeze on government spending" as a way to balance the budget.  Erratic doesn't begin to cover the wild careening that his campaign has taken.  Proof positive that judgment is greater than experience.

Tom Osborne and Scott Walterman (POTUS-XM) were asking why this race is close this morning.  I don't believe it is a ‘race’ factor - across the board (may be a component in some places).  I think it is close because the Independents are afraid to 'bet' on inexperience.  It is true that Reagan, Bush I, Clinton and "W" have all been tested.  All but Bush I had NO national experience.  It all comes down to judgment.  Reagan and "W" overly relied on their advisors/peers and ended up in political ditches.  Clinton surrounded himself by smart people and let them do their jobs.  None of it was 'perfect'; but MOST Americans would have to agree, fiscally they were much better off under Clinton.

The Reagan era brought us junk bonds and Michael Milken and outrageous interest rates.  Where "W" era brought us subprime mortgage backed securities and massive deregulation plus an unnecessary war (Iraq).

I just think the choice here, when you look at the candidates and their behavior (and you stop listening to the fear mongering, 'whisper' campaign), Obama has shown a very CLEAR ability to react timely and appropriately to any situation.  McCain is still trying to figure some of the complicated stuff out - after 26 years in Congress.  But people vote their guts, and so they are afraid.  Afraid of what they don't know and willing to let others decide for them.  My husband is convinced that the true undecideds are not all low information; but more followers.  They are watching the polls and are potentially willing to trust the masses more than themselves.

At this stage in the game, I hope so.  I don't think I can survive another four years of Cowboy politics and Rovian Divisiveness.  I want a leader I can trust and believe in and for me; with all I've seen that person is Barack Obama!

When Palin decided to expand on her house, she used the same contractor that Stevens did.

This home expansion was done around the same time Mayor Palin awarded the Wasilla Ice Arena to this contractor.
And.... scene.

Bad news for Republicans -- even worse news for Stevens himself.  All SEVEN counts?  Wow.

Sen. Stevens will be on loan to the federal penitentiary for up to 35 years.

If the Democrats don't pick up that seat, Alaska really should secede.
Another in a long and distinguished line of Repug felons heads off to prison!!! He can share a cell block with War Hero Duke Cunningham, Bob Ney, Jack Abramoff, and half the Bush admistration's staff by the time this is over. This is getting easier by the minute. Next out is Frau Bachmann, Idiot Boy Robin Hayes and a dozen others. Keep flappin' those gums, Repugs! Get every one of them in front of a camera and we'll have 80 before next Wednesday.
This should be Filed Under: Congress, Courts, Republicans, 2008, Idiots..........
Sarah's next
Alaska voters should reject this joker.  If they elect him, and he goes to prison, then Sarah is free to place her hubby (or gosh darn it anyone else she wants)in that seat.  Hmmm - something to think about, now isn' it?
Say hello to Senator Mark Begich!
Great Job! Like all servants who abuse their power and lie to Americans, (Nixon, Clinton, etc) justice served. Nixon resigned,(I am not a crook) Clinton will never get past the "I never had sex with that woman" lie he told America and others who abuse the trust we place in them. Democrats and Republicans alike should go down if they are caught lying to us.
Step aside and move on. McCain/Palin 08
FR: This conviction boosts the prospects of Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich (D) defeating Stevens in next week's Senate race.

Gee, you think?

And William Jefferson of (D-Louisana), how''s he doing these days? Charlie Rangle, how's his tax evasion charges working out for him?

Justice seems to be a one way street lately.
yet another black eye for the GOP
Well another Rupub outta race for the Senate man it just gets better and better. GO DEMS!
ANOTHER dirty Republican found guilty....surprise, surprise......NOT! I would hope Begich would be able to defeat him next week, just as I hope Obama/Biden can defeat McCain/Palin, although I understand the dirty GOP is already purging votes even as we blog. Here is another fine example of the "Christian" right wing; if you can win fairly, then cheat, lie and steal for every vote.....THAT'S Christian, isn't it? The GOP makes me sick..........Obama/Biden '08/'12!
Can someone please tell me why he is automatically not thrown out of the seante?

So we really want to allow our government to be run by crooks?

It suddenly feels like October 2006 all over again when Mark Foley had his downfall. I guess THIS is the October Surprise....
Here's how this plays out.

Ted "Tubes" Stevens still wins his seat back.

McPalin loses.

Ted "NO!" Stevens resigns his seat when sentenced to 1 year at a Federal Country Club.

Caribou Barbie appoints herself to serve out his term.

Palincomparison runs for President in 2012.

Palin loses to Obama. Again.

Veto-proof Senate here we come!
He looks like an older Bill Clinton who has lost some weight. Join the gang Senator. Many don't get caught so he was probably less lucky than many others. Monica blew it for Clinton.
next up..palin
You're next Sarah "Moose head" Palin. Your lies are a cause for impeachment!

Complacency is definitely not what we need with eight days to go. Eight days will be here before we know it. As many of us have already seen in previous elections, the GOP will do everything to steal and delay the democratic process.
Now is not time for nervousness; rather convert the nervousness to action and courage. The majority of Americans see the COURAGE Obama has to tackle the GOP. We must follow suit. This consistency has shown Obama’s COURAGE underlies McCain’s erratic, pitch, and lurching efforts to cause division between rich, middle class and the poor in our nation.

Vote EARLY for self and country.
Vote Obama/Biden

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

now maybe they can convict Palin and we'll be done with the crooks from Alaska for a while...

This idiot should have dropped out of the primaries to begin with.  Now, this brings the Dems that much closer to a fillibuster-proof majority - something I don't want either party to have because there are NO CHECKS AND BALANCES AT ALL.  Say what you want about the 6 years where Republicans ran things, but Dems did stop bills that they objected to through use of the fillibuster.  Now, Alaskans, despite being overwhelmingly conservative, are going to be forced to put a "conservative" Democrat in the Senate for 6 years that will be like every other conservative Democrat that's run recently.  They say one thing on the campaign trail because they are in a conservative area and then they follow the party line as soon as they are elected.  Any Republican would have won this election given the political landscape in Alaska.
GUILTY on ALL 7 counts!

So now I wonder what happens to the $160M in PORK that Palin asked Stephens to request for Alaska - just BEFORE McCain picked her as a PorkBuster???

Pathetic - Alaska deserves them BOTH!
Well, Well, Well, "Guilty of making false statements".  Call it what it is "LYING"!

Let the courts do what they haven't done for 8 years,  Out of fear from the Administration of Bush,

PROSECUTE!

Go way back to the 9/11 Commission, where W and Cheney, testified behind closed doors, not under oath, and no record.....What a travesty!

Throw all the Repukes in Jail......they certainly are guilty by association!!!!!
Love it - next up: governor PALIN - maybe they used the same "builders" and "funds" to build her house?
Shouldn't this conviction disqualify him from running??
Good, but...
Bush will pardon him I'm sure.
Stevens guilty, Palin guilty of ethical violations - they sure do know how to grow em up there in Alaska.

You betcha!
Great news for polar bears. Bad news for corrupt, bigoted GOP.
Thought for the day:

Does Sen. Stevens drop out of the race? Or continue his campaign as a convicted felon?
Go Begich!!
Let's throw all these bums out - straight down the ballot!

Obama/OBiden '08
Another Republican guilty of wrong doing. Whodathunk it. Actually this shouldn't surprise anyone. Wait until Sinner Sister Sarah gets back home, they have the noose all warmed up for her too. When will they ever learn, when will they ever learn?

The good news just keeps coming!!
60 just got easier!!
Uh-oh!
The Republicans have a lot of problems in Alsaka. A Gov accused of Abuse of Power and a Sen. gulity of  Federal crimes. I am impressed with their reformist credentials.  At a time of serious problems with our economy McCain gives us " High Fashion" Palin who talks a good game but whose resume reflects cronyism and a disregard for merit.
I wonder how Ms. Palin feels about her guilt by association attacks on Senator Obama, now that it's been established that she pals around with a convicted felon.  The only difference here is that Ms. Palin really did associate closely with Senator Stevens, and it wasn't in the distant past.
Isn't it time to thoroughly investigate, review and rehash Palin's ties with Stevens?  After all this man has been CONVICTED and is an associate of Palin.  Ayers was simply on some boards and hosted a meet and greet for Obama a long time ago.

Let's check into this and see how mcuh rubbed off on the Maverick from Alaska.
There goes another repub down the toliet!!!!
Hey--wasnt Ted Stevens Ms Palins mentor??

NUF SAID!!!
So, Governor Palin, do you still support Senator Stevens?
W00t!   Again, it's not that the work was done, it's that he lied by omission by not reporting it on his annual financial papers.
One down, One to go
troopergate
per diem irregularities
state paying for kids to stay in $700/night hotel
possible kick backs to build house in Wasilla

As a former Alaskan, I truly hope my beloved state cleans house of these thugs.
I just want to say that there are a lot of white, middle class Democrats in WV (including my family, from my 85 year old grandmother to my 19 year old brother) who enthusiastically support Sen Obama.  And we sincerely hope that enough people will come out to support him to return WV to its great Democratic tradition.  I mean, come on WV, we voted for Dukakis!

Ryan, Fairmont, WV (Sent Monday, October 27, 2008 2:02 PM)

So the good people of West Virginia are prideful at getting it wrong?
The Caribou Queen is probably right behind him. Apparently Alaska is more corrupt than my state, Louisiana, and that IS saying a lob
whoopsie!!!

more questions for Palin to answer now.  More fodder for repugs to deal with.

Obama/Biden 08
It's amazing how fast that Alaska can accuse, try, and convict people that break the law. Who's the governor up there? Who ever it is is doing a darn fine job of weeding out corruption. Maybe other states could do the same with their corrupt politians rather then have it drag out for years.
