Obama: McCain rides shotgun with Bush

Posted: Tuesday, October 28, 2008 12:45 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Athena Jones

CHESTER, Pa. -- A jean-clad Obama, speaking on a rainy, windy day outside Philadelphia, told the crowd McCain was “riding shotgun” with President Bush when it came to economic policies that have hurt working people.

The roughly 27-minute remarks, delivered to an estimated crowd of 9,000 people on a college campus in Delaware County, who cheered as they huddled under umbrellas, was largely a repeat of the speeches the senator gave yesterday in Canton, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, part of what his campaign has called his “closing argument.” In it he continued to portray his rival as someone who is out of touch with middle class concerns and whose tax proposals would favor big companies and the wealthy.

“John McCain’s ridden shotgun as George Bush has driven our economy toward a cliff, and now he wants to take the wheel and step on the gas,” he said. “When it comes to the issue of taxes, saying that John McCain is running for a third Bush term isn’t being fair to George Bush. He’s proposing $300 billion in new tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and the biggest corporations. That’s something not even George Bush proposed.”

He said even Bush had not proposed giving $700,000 in additional tax cuts to the average Fortune 500 CEO and he argued that only McCain had a plan that could eventually raise taxes on middle class families, citing the Republican’s plan to tax the health care benefits that companies provide.

The McCain campaign’s response to the speech sought to link Obama to congressional Democrats. One thing Bush and Congress have in common is low approval ratings and McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds wrote that Obama had not articulated any differences with Democrats in Congress.

“When Barack Obama’s running mate cannot distinguish a single difference between their agenda and the priorities of the Democrats who have controlled Congress for two years -- that’s not change, that’s tax increases, defense cuts, and surrender on all fronts,” Bounds wrote. “If voters want to fix Washington, they’ll reject Barack Obama’s rubber-stamped agenda for the most unpopular, big-spending Congress in American history.”

Wall Street and Rain
Obama, who has been using populist language on the stump in recent weeks to cast himself as a champion for middle and working class Americans, also slammed Wall Street executives after reports that they stand to collect billions in bonuses this year despite the financial crisis.

“Despite the fact that businesses and families can’t get credit and home values are failing- are falling and pensions are disappearing that ages are lower now than they’ve been in a decade,” he said. “Wall Street bank executives are set to walk away with billions more in bonuses at the end of this year. Now, they might call that a bonus on Wall Street, but here in Pennsylvania, we call that an outrage -- and they shouldn’t be allowed to get away with it.”

When faced with bad weather, the Illinois senator often incorporates the rain or the cold into his speech and he did so several times today, remarking at the beginning that crowd had shown dedication by showing up in the cold and the rain.

“This is an unbelievable crowd for this kind of weather,” he said. “Thank you so much. And I want you all to know that if we are, if we see this kind of dedication on Election Day there is no way we’re not gonna bring change to America.”

He said there was too much at stake to slow down or let up “whether it’s rain or sleet or snow” and he closed by returning to the themes of hope and unity that shaped his campaign in the early days of the race, arguing that by coming together the country could emerge from the current economic crisis stronger than before.

“We’ve faced bad weather before,” he said in closing. “We’ve faced clouds in the sky before, you know, but one of the things about the American people is that it’s precisely when things are hard that we rise up. It’s precisely during those times where it looks like we’re giving up hope that we stand together. It’s about rejecting fear and division for unity of purpose.”

The stop in a county John Kerry won with 57 percent of the vote in 200, is likely to be the last stop the candidate makes in a blue state. Polls have shown him with a solid lead in Pennsylvania.

The straighttalkexpress was highjacked by the right wing. Here's a good bumper sticker: McCain - from the folks who brought you Bush.

Pictures that tell it like it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8gJ_rPHXtk

Pass it on.
Now Obama wants people to take the day off of work/school on Election Day to volunteer for him!?!!!  This guy just doesn't get it!  I don't work for the fun of it -- I work for A LIVING!  I guess people like him can take a day, or week, or year or two from their jobs, but I can't!

I know this won't be a problem for most of his supporters though.  If these "posts" are any indication -- they neither work or go to school.  They sit in their mommy's basements in their jammys and write vicious, unintelligent ramblings all day!
He is wrong.  McCain rode shotgun while Chaney derailed the Clinton prosperity.
Pennsylvania FOR OBAMA!

VOTERS ---- Get out the vote.   Rain, sleet or snow.   Bring the snacks, the umbrella and GET THE JOB DONE.

We need everyone to make this happen!   Trust the Obama/Biden ticket to bring hope and change to this country.

OBAMA/BIDEN '08
B.O stays on message while McCain's changes with regularity. There is nothing McCain can do at this point in time and the GOP knows it....none of us will will have withdrawals after the election is over because the blame game and McCain's disasterous campaign will be dissected. How could anyone vote for someone who has lead such a poor campaign and taken the Congressional GOP with him in the process.
VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN NOW IF YOU CAN or on 4 NOV!!!

A RABID REPUBLICAN VIETNAM-ERA VET FAT OLD PREJUDICED WHITE GUY NOW FOR OBAMA/BIDEN
I Love this statement Obama just made..

"John McCain’s ridden shotgun as George Bush has driven our economy toward a cliff, and now he wants to take the wheel and step on the gas,”

Fantastic slogan!!! and it's true!!!
Obama and his supporters braved the elimants while speaking in Delaware county. His opponents drive their bus into the Giant Center in Hershey, PA ....Go figure! Maybe they didn't want Sarah's expensive make-up to run......and enough with John the Chocolate Maker...we are adults...talk specifically about how you'll balance the budget in 4 years!

Obama/Biden '08
Go Obama....we will change the path of this country for the better.
Obama is riding shotgun with Marx and Stalin, and they are all smiling.
Barack, you know better then that. You can't talk about anything with 'shotguns'. Those are the things you're going to ban.
McCain doesn't want ot raise taxes 'on anybody'

The only ones getting their taxes raised under Obama are thos MAKING over $200,000/per year (and couples making OVER $250,00 / per year

Guess who McCain is looking out for ?

McCain says we have the 'Highest Corporate Income Taxes' in the World !!

But, under Bush HALF OF AMERICAN CORPORATIONS PAID NO CORPORATE INCOME TAXES IN the PAST 4 years !!

Loops holes and giveaways make sure Corporations are pampered by the IRS

McCain is trying to protect the Rich and the Corporate eleit who profitted so much under the Republican Administration

'Trickle Down' Economics is DISCREDITED
So is 'Deregulation'

But, John McCain said he 'WAS A DEREGULATOR

TURN THE PAGE !!
Tucker Bounds needs to tuck his tail between his legs and go away.  Democrats are finally beating Republicans at their own game and they can't stand it!!!!!!  McCain has found a new word "redistributionist" thank goodness we only have to hear it for a few more days, unless of course he comes up with another one - in a couple of hours, or maybe tommorrow.  It has become pathetic, and maybe through history, his story will go down as how not to run a campaign!
"Obama, who has been using populist language on the stump in recent weeks to cast himself as a champion for middle and working class Americans, also slammed Wall Street executives after reports that they stand to collect billions in bonuses this year despite the financial crisis."
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Am I the only one who has been following the Obama campaign for the past two years?

Senator Obama HAS NOT "has been using populist language on the stump in recent weeks to cast himself as a champion for middle and working class Americans".

Senator Obama has had the SAME MESSAGE OF CHANGE and giving middle class Americans a break for TWO YEARS!

Is this sentence your pathetic attempt to be "unbiased"? If it is, try again.

Because that one cynical and poorly written sentence implies that Senator Obama is some type of "johnny come lately" pretender to the issues that working class Americans face when in fact he is a man who has dedicated his ENTIRE LIFE to helping working class people!

Senator Obama has LIVED as a real person, has WORKED as a real person, and will LEAD as a real person.

November 4th can't come soon enough.

Obama/Biden '08/'12
Obama and Biden are riding with Conquest, War, Famine and Death.
Barack Obama is an honorable, intelligent, strong
man who is fighting very hard for middle class
America. He is the only one, voters, who truly
cares about us and our future.
The republicans do not give us any credit. They
think we will continue to believe and accept
their incompetence, raping of America, lies,
sleeze and total loss of integrity.
We are going to let them know we have had
ENOUGH!!
Polls have shown [Obama] with a solid lead in Pennsylvania.
******************************************************

Despite his 10-point loss in the Pennsylvania Democratic primary race... he's solidified Democratic support -- as well as independents.

http://thepajamapundit.com/
Good to see that Obama can endure some bad weather to reach voters. McPalin is too delicate to risk getting rained on. Hilarious considering they advocate more trickle down economics. It's not so pleasant when you're the ones getting trickled on is it?
<<"He's proposing $300 billion in new tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and the biggest corporations. That's something not even George Bush proposed.">>

Obama with a left!  And a right!  Oh, he scores with a big uppercut!  McCain is on the ropes!  Any second now, he'll be on the mat!  He's teetering!  Any second now!  Any second now...
I voted yesterday and I have to say... I FEEL GOOD!

GO OBAMA/BIDEN...08-12

Hahaha...  I love the not a maverick ; but is a sidekick line...  don't you?

Funny & so true!

Go get 'em Barack!

We love you and Joe!!!

No, not joe scarbourough.

I'll always said McCain is a desperado (bandit).

While you're  riding shotgun stop your bigoted robo call. Redistributive changes not only applies to Black peoople. There are a lot other poor nationalities.

John let your National headquartes (Fox News)know that!

Vote Obama/Biden

Well it looks like McCain will be driving ms sarah in 2012? John McCain has tarnished his legacy for what? He needs to come out at this point and disputed all of the ills that have been spoke against Obama, especially this crazy lady that claimed to have been assaulted by a black Obama supporter. John McCain needs to be the real Maverick and check his pundits and campaign. Enough is enough. I think when we get to a point that people that support your campign are connected with trying to kill your opponent, you need to man up!
I've already voted and I just gave my last donation of the election season, as I am headed out of the country this weekend. It's been great to be a part of Obama's Virginia volunteer team on the ground, on the phone and on email. I won't be here for the great election of my lifetime, but will be watching from Switzerland with my friends! GOTV!
First Read,
Would you all take on McCain on his stance on taxes in 2000. He obviously did not think it was socialism then. This is the link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2JPbQOHEkY
This is no surprise to me.  Since the McCain campaign is so stuck on "associations" then don't try and back away from his.  McCain = McSAME!
Obama should not let up!  I have Obama-Biden at 280 electoral votes--enough to win!  PA is a clear winner.
When Barack Obama’s running mate cannot distinguish a single difference between their agenda and the priorities of the Democrats who have controlled Congress for two years -- that’s not change, that’s tax increases, defense cuts, and surrender on all fronts,”...

--------------

Democrats, while being in the majority, have not controlled congress.  On every single issue that matters when it got to the senate the Repbulicans threatened fillibuster.  The reason things didn't get done is that they pouted and threatened to take their ball home if things didn't go their way.

Time to vote straight party to end this nonsense.  And if the Dems don't get it right, through them out until we get people up there taht do.
JUST ANNOUNCED !!! PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON AND SENATOR OBAMA WILL HOLD A LATE EVENING RALLY IN KISSIMEE, FLORIDA ( JUST OUTSIDE OF ORLANDO ) ON WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 29 TH.. BE THERE, WHERE HISTORY IS BEING MADE ! YES WE CAN ! YES THEY WILL !!!! FOR MORE INFO GO TO OBAMA.COM
Can you imagine Sir John, the lovely Cindy and Ms. Snarky standing out in the rain revving up the crowd?
NO .... make-up would be running, hair would be a-blowing and Cindy would just cry.
Lets see now, A liberal Democrat in the WH, liberal Democrat running the House, and a liberal Democrat running the Senate with a super majority. First Amendment - gone. Fairness Doctrine is first thing to put in place. Second Amendment - gone. No, you don't get to own a gun. Just like you can't own a gun in Washington DC and Chicago, the murder capitals of the US. Third amendment - not needed anymore - the military will be dissolved to pay for health care. Fourth amendment - gone - need to recind that one so Obama's Brown Shirts can look for the weapons outlawed by getting rid of the Second Amendment. Fifth Amendment - gone. Anyone liberal accusing a conservative of anything will result in the conservative going to a re-education camp. Sixth amendment gone. See 5th amendment. Seventh amendment - gone.  Civil cases will be decided based on your political pursuation - if you're a liberal you're innocent, a conservative, you're guilty. Eighth amendmnet - really now, with the 4th, 5th, and 6th gone, do we really need this one anymore? 10th amendment - Government is all powerful now - this one is gone too. 12th and 22nd amendment - gone. Obama is King for life. 13th amendment - gone. Need to enslave all conservatives. 14th amendment - gone. If you get into the country - you're a citizen with full rights. 1th amendment - Obama will be keeping that one around. Abortion - we'll finally get an amendment for that one.
Seeing the only thing left to keep loony liberals in check will be the Supremem Court, does Obama plan to just tear up the Constitution and rewrite it his way?
Obama,,,The man who stands up for we the people .Rain won't stop him,Wind is at his back.Snow,,no problem, sleet, not to tough to meet head on,without pre=conditions. The man has showed nothing but complete class, and will lead us back to the greatness that all others have looked to us for.Steady at the tiller,Calm under fire, cool when challenged ,,respectful to his opponents,Family man who has stayed with his wife and loves his kids. Our time is now don;t take anything for granted, two words,Florida,Ohio.
I listen to POTUS 08 all day long and I listen to all the stump speeches from both sides... Since McWar was nominated as the GOPs candidate all I've heard is "I've got a plan" for this and that... I haven't heard one concrete explanation of his so called 'plans'.....I'VE HEARD REHORIC AND LIES....

Meanwhile, Obama is articulate, honest and thorough... An Obama/Biden administration will bring intelligence, wisdom and honor to the Whitehouse, something that has been missing for a long time.   An Obama/Biden administration will restore the middle class, spread diplomacy and restore our standing as leader of the free world.  FROM THE OBAMA/BIDEN CAMP I'VE HEARD REAL SOLUTIONS, AND REASONS TO HOPE...

I voted yesterday and I FEEL GOOD!

GO OBAMA/BIDEN

Ever heard of paid vacation?

Jeez.

You need to switch to decaf.
To Congress Watcher,
How we quickly one forgets how the Republicans have decimated the constitution and Bill of Rights... justin the last 8 years. Jet's not even mention the designs Ms. Palin has on changing the constitutional job of VP.
Just like Obama and his clan rode shotgun with the dems in the 90s to make sure ANYONE who could fog a mirror could get a housing loan? Legislation that Bush tried to do away with when he first got into office and could've prevented the bank collapse?
It is understandable why McCain tries to rewrite history, But Americans are not as stupid as he thinks.
It's time for John to try to save a Senate seat as Bob Dole tried to do.  This race is over for John and Sarah.  They both know it. When Sarah says she is going to return to her consignment shop in Alaska, she knows she won't be moving to Blair House, Washington D. C.  It's time to show an ounce of dignity, if there is an ounce left.

John cannot say anything yet, but I hope he tells the inside story of how Sarah was selected.  My bet is the Rovian handlers pushed her on John.
Hey Smiley McNitwit and Caribou Barbie, it's not too late to hook up with the nearest carney!

Good day... I said GOOD DAY!
Obama makes a strong case.  The way out of darkness is to light a candle.  If we each vote for Obama it will be like a small candle in the darkness of FEAR that McCain spreads.  But the light of all those candles will brighten up the future.
Tucker - try to catch up, brother.  The Dems have had a majority in Congress the last two years, correct.  But in that two years, W magically found his veto stamp that had been missing the previous six years.  So your spin on this is going nowhere.  Informed voters know when you're lying (it's whenever your lips are moving).
In all this time, and with a few months' head start, McCain has yet to describe a single plan that would be different from the disaster of the last 8 years.  Why?  Because he has none.  He can only attack because he has nothing else to offer.
Go Obama!  We've had bad weather the past 8 years.  It's time for a little sunshine.

Obama/Biden '08
McCains Mortgage Plan........He keep saying this should be put in place now
MCAIN IS LYING when he says his plan won't cost taxpayers anything.  Here's some math for you numerically challenged:

-U.S. Gov buys  of a struggling homeowner at face value from bank at $100,000.
-U.S. Gov restructures that loan to the homeowner to make it more affordable...say, revaluing it at $70,000.
-$100,000 - $70,000 = $30,000 that the U.S. Gov just gave away to the bank.
-Now do that with ~10 million U.S. homeowners, $30,000 X 10 million = $300 BILLION that we, the taxpayers, must pay. Nothing will be recouped. Zero. Zip. Nada. Zilch. Plus no one knows how many of these bad mortgages are really out there or what the final cost to the American Taxpayer would be under McCains plan...

This is yet another example of McCain's radical views..
You write that Obama "slammed Wall Street executives after reports that they stand to collect billions in bonuses this year despite the financial crisis."  But how come he never "slams" those who give to his campaign like the Jim Raines (Fannie Mae). Could it be that he talks tough in general but when he's the 2nd leading recipient (i.e. from Fannie Mae) he loses his bite? Obama speaks of reforming gov't and yet he's buddy-buddy with all the worst players in Chicago and Illinois politics and has done NOTHING to reform the corruption there like Cook County and the Daleys.  Obama talks of "reducing abortions" and yet he has NO plans to protect a human unborn baby from 0-9 months and both in rhetoric and record is the most radically pro-abortion candidate to ever run for president.
Congress Watcher.  One word....idiot.  If you are that full of fear of your gov't. I recommend you try another country.
Democrats = Growing economy and opportunity
Republicans = Recession and deficit spending

I don't know if it has always been like that, but for 30 years it has.
sorry congress watcher guess you havent been watching hard enough us washingtonians can now legally own firearms
John McCain should stick a fork in his leg and go home.
