Palin keeps up the hits

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- At an event where Palin was joined by Joe the Plumber, the Republican vice-presidential candidate took up her running mate's attacks against Obama and the media Wednesday. She suggested, as McCain has, that the Los Angeles Times was withholding a videotape in which Obama attended a 2003 send off for Rashid Khalidi, a Columbia University professor and friend with past ties to the Palestinian Liberation Organization.

It's a story the Times reported on in April, which the McCain campaign is now pushing. The Obama campaign would point to a Huffington Post report that when McCain was the chairman of the International Republican Instutitute, it gave grants to Khalidi's Center for Palestine Research and Studies.

“It must be nice for a candidate to have major news organizations looking after his best interests like that,” Palin said, charging that the newspaper was witholding the tape to aid Obama. "In this case, we have a newspaper willing to throw aside even the public's right to know in order to protect a candidate that its own editorial board has endorsed. And if there's a Pulitzer Prize category for excelling in kow-towing, then the L.A. Times, you're winning.”

Palin attacked Obama on what she called his “assortment of friends from Chicago.” She described Khalidi as “another radical professor from the neighborhood who spent a lot of time with Barack Obama going back several years.” She referred to the Times' reporting about Obama having been at a party for Khalidi in 2003, where Khalidi described Israel as the perpetrator of terrorism.
This is what the Times wrote at the time, though: "At Khalidi's 2003 farewell party, for example, a young Palestinian American recited a poem accusing the Israeli government of terrorism in its treatment of Palestinians and sharply criticizing U.S. support of Israel. If Palestinians cannot secure their own land, she said, 'then you will never see a day of peace.' One speaker likened 'Zionist settlers on the West Bank' to Osama bin Laden, saying both had been 'blinded by ideology.'"

"Obama adopted a different tone in his comments and called for finding common ground. But his presence at such events, as he worked to build a political base in Chicago, has led some Palestinian leaders to believe that he might deal differently with the Middle East than either of his opponents for the White House."

Of Obama's role, the Times also wrote, "Speaking to the crowd, Obama reminisced about meals prepared by Khalidi's wife, Mona, and conversations that had challenged his thinking."

The Times has said it will not release the tape, because it was given to the newspaper under the condition that it not be released.

But at Palin's campaign event, it was the surprise appearance by Joe the Plumber that fired up the Bowling Green State University crowd.

“He’s a fellow Alaskan, and he’s a fellow military man who has served our country proudly,” she said. “I’d like you to meet him. Please welcome Joe the Plumber!”

Joe Wurzelbacher was introduced as a special guest midway through Palin’s speech, to a roaring ovation. A day after he campaigned on his own -- and received criticism for agreeing with comments suggesting Obama’s election would mean “death to Israel” --  Wurzelbacher stood silently by Palin’s side through the rest of her remarks, dressed in jeans and a checkered work shirt.

“All the pictures I’ve seen of him, I knew I’d like him, wearing his Carhartts and steel-toed boots,” she said.

Wurzelbacher, who was never introduced by his real name, served as a prop to Palin’s continued critique of Obama’s tax plans. She suggested Obama would raise taxes on small businesses, stifling growth and making it more difficult for small outfits to hire new people and create jobs.

Palin said voters identify with Wurzelbacher, who asked Obama a question at his tax plan at a rally earlier this month. He officially endorsed McCain earlier this week.

“So Joe merely asked our opponent a simple, straightforward question, and he spoke for a lot of Americans,” she said. “And the Obama campaign did not appreciate that. And since then, they've been investigating and attacking our friend Joe the Plumber.”

*** UPDATE *** Obama spokesman Hari Sevugan emails this response to the Khalidi attack. “This is just another recycled, manufactured controversy from the McCain campaign to distract voters’ attention from John McCain’s lock-step support for George Bush’s economic policies. Barack Obama has been clear and consistent on his support for Israel, and has been clear that Rasheed Khalidi is not an adviser to him or his campaign and that he does not share Khalidi’s views. Instead of giving lectures on media bias, John McCain should answer why, under his own chairmanship, the International Republican Institute repeatedly funded an organization Khalidi founded, the Center for Palestine Research and Studies, over the course of many years.”

Oh, goody. More sneering and name-calling.
“All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up."
Does anyone really know the definition of socialist? here ya go:

Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and the creation of an egalitarian society [Wikepedia].

This doesn't sound at all like what Obama's tax plan proposes.  No. it does not!
Go away Palin, before another house falls on you!
McCain and Palin need 409,239 votes in seven states to win the election, whereas John Kerry needed just 118,599 votes in Ohio alone:

Sarah Palin is as much of a reformer as Joe is a legit plumber. The entire McCain Campaign is based on FRAUD. McCain will have only his own ineptitude to blame.
Oh, give me a friggin' break.  The McCain campaign can't beat Obama on the issues, so they continue to dig up these attacks on Obama for anyone he's every talked to.

Unreal.

This news story appeared in the L.A. Times SIX MONTHS AGO.  If there is truly a scandal there, it would have already been broken and Hillary Clinton would be the Democratic nominee.

Stick to the issues that we care about McCain.  Not this petty crap.

the public's right to know..................kinda like the automobile accident report from '64 that the Navy is holding back from Vanity Fair?  Kinda like McCain's unfiltered, unhurried access to his medical records?  Kinda like Palin's real ties to the AIP, not just those of her husband's?   Shut up and sit down:  when you are ready with those, maybe we'll talk
SPREAD THE WEALTH COMMENT COINED BY PALIN!

Here's the article-

Sarah coined  SPREAD THE WEALTH term

Dr. Phil, paging Dr. Phil!...

Distractions!  The American people will not be fooled this time!

What is the McCain/Palin ticket actually going to do if they get in office?  The majority of their entire campaign is spent arguing why we shouldn't elect Obama.

Obama is taking about SOLUTIONS!  McCain/Palin are only offering more of the same garbage!!

Palin is off the bus again.
Ummm, you should probably point out the fact that he is not an Alaskan and didn't serve in the military despite Ms. Palin's remarks printed verbatim here without comment.
You know the funny thing about Joe The Bummer is that he was trumped up on a lie just like every attack the McBush/ Failin Palin ticket has had to offer.  Just another word on something spoken earlier today. Not all evangelicals bite into the Foolish Farms Turkeys The  McBush campaign has to offer. There are a lot of us that agree with Obama. My other complaint is that just because someone claims to be a church going person does not make them a great candidate. Look at Bush AKA  Shrub .  He looked pretty tore up at the Olympics.
Dear Palin, didn't your mother ever tell you what comes around goes around?  Your mean spirit is not going to get you anywhere.  You are a liar, a hypocrit, a disgrace as a parent to teach your children that your behavior and evil words are okay.  I refuse to vote for anyone who is charged with abuse of power.  Why don't you take your own advise that you gave to Stevens and step down or go back to Wasilla where corrupt behavior is acceptable.
Can you please atleast tell the whole story....McCain back in the 1990s  while he served as chairman of the International Republican Institute (IRI), McCain distributed several grants to the Palestinian research center co-founded by Khalidi, including one worth $500,000 dollars.

Can you guys please tell the world this!!!

Obama supports Israel, and I am Jewish with family in Europe that travels there all the time.  Once again Palin is spewing her filth and for those living in glass houses - you know how the rest of that goes.  Troopergate, housegate, friends with convicted felon, pipelinegate, etc., etc.,  Can't wait for her to go back to Alaska, is not re-elected, and faces charges and is convicted.  It's probably not enough to shut her up.
I used to be a Republican.  I believe in smaller government and fiscal responsibility.  The GOP of today is has been hijacked by the Christian right.  I am Christian!  I am person of faith and consider myself strong in personal convictions regarding my faith.  But the Republican party of today is not the same that it was even 8 years ago.  It's a joke - full of hypocracy and power-hungry politicians.

It's time for change.  We can't wait.

Obama/Biden!
Is it true, then, that Joe Wurzelbacher would prefer to live on less than $50K per year because he's afraid when he's netting $250K as a small business owner, he'll be worse off?  That's not business savvy, that's just plain stupid!

I also don't believe for a minute that business owners across the country are going to close shop because they're taxes went up a few percentage points.
Did Joe the plumbers helper ever get his tickets and back taxes squared away?
McCain Funded Work Of Palestinian His Campaign Hopes To Tie To Obama

During the 1990s, while he served as chairman of the International Republican Institute (IRI), McCain distributed several grants to the Palestinian research center co-founded by Khalidi, including one worth half a million dollars.

A 1998 tax filing for the McCain-led group shows a $448,873 grant to Khalidi's Center for Palestine Research and Studies for work in the West Bank.

The relationship extends back as far as 1993, when John McCain joined IRI as chairman in January. Foreign Affairs noted in September of that year that IRI had helped fund several extensive studies in Palestine run by Khalidi's group, including over 30 public opinion polls and a study of "sociopolitical attitudes."

The McCain/Palin campaign is sickening in it's desperation.  They are hypocrites with no honor.

No Honor. No McCain.
Joe the Plumber or Joe the Puppet?
Did anyone see Bill Maher show the other night where he had the guy from Office of Management & Budget, the one that checks our debt. He says its actually 55 trillion & not 10 trillion as advertised. The repubs talk about tax & spend liberals but it seems like Bush & co. have done a hell of a job straddling our children with this huge debt. The wars in Iraq & Afganistan don't even count in their budgets, its all off the books but it still needs to be paid back! Good luck with paying this stuff off, not in my lifetime.
Sarah needs to get her facts straight about who investigated Joe the Bummer. She also needs to tell the truth that lying to someone is not asking a straightforward question. Nope that is called lying.
Everytime I hear her speak I want to shove something into that mouth of Sarah Palins.
Getting desperate much!!  Keep telling your fat lies Sister Sarah!  Why don't you do us all a favor and disappear.
The closer it gets to Nov. 4th, the nastier McCains 'pit bull with lipstick' gets. What happended to McCain's promise to run an honorable campaign based on issues?  Guess that was only if he was ahead in the polls.
McCain/Palin's got NOTHING!!!  They'll be ''slingin mud'' until the very end. They have absolutely no class and have sold their souls.

In fact, it would not surprise me one bit if McCain refuses to give the conceeding phone call to Sen. Obama, once the voters of this fine country show up in HUGE numbers against him.

Hey Miss Dummie...your candidate is closer to this man than Obama.  He was the one reponsible for giving this man 500K for research...and this man has personally called John McCain a very good friend....look into it....this woman is dumb as a box of rocks.  You just opened up a can of worms lady.  How stupid you are.
“It must be nice for a candidate to have major news organizations looking after his best interests like that,” Palin said.

I'm sure it is, IF you take time to TALK TO major new organizations throughout your candidacy.  Snub them, and I'm sure they will find a way to fight back somehow.  Somebody smack this 'bizzy ditch'.
I'm just upset that my state cannot vote early. Obama/Biden all the way!
This all reminds me of that guy (Larry Fortensky)  who was married to Elizabeth Taylor for what was it... like two weeks?  What must it be like for these people (including Palin herself, for that matter?) when the lights go out and they have to go back to reality and their boring little lives?  How cruel and fleeting is fame?!! The McCain campaign is really scraping the bottom of the barrel with this one...who CARES if Joe Whatshisname endorsed McCain????
PLEASE CHUCK - I can't find this anywhere - About that last Montana poll, can you tell us if Ron Paul was named in the poll, or was it just McCain/Obama?  Thanks!
Just listening to these candidates makes me wonder just how much they would be willing to damage America to win?

"Wurzelbacher, who was never introduced by his real name, served as a prop to Palin’s continued critique of Obama’s tax plans."
--This seems like an unusual strategy to me.
More baseless republican witch hunts--right out of the "it takes one to know one" playbook.  I'm still trying to figure out how low this campaign can go--seems like it's still in free fall.
6 more days and no more Palin the Pathetic, McCain the Meglomaniac, Joe the "not ready for prime time plumber want to be", Liebermann the Liar, and Tucker the Toad.  6 more days!!!!!!!!!!!
These "guilt by association" attacks by McCain/Palin are beyond pathetic. Can the fake outrage, already!
AGHH... Could someone just shove a sock in her mouth and haul old Joe back to his home that he doesn't pay property taxes on!?  Give me a break.  At least he's smart enough to stay quiet- Palin should take notes.  I Can't wait until Nov. 5th when MCCAIN/PALIN is LONG GONE!

OBAMA/BIDEN
Speaking of things being released, I thought Sarah Palin said that she was going to release her medical records . . . what happened to that?

Also, why is First Read failing to mention that Senator McCain has also had significant interactions with this professor, going so far as to fund an organization that he was a member of. That's pretty relevant, dotcha think? *winky wink*
