*** Approaching the witching hour: We now have a good idea of where the two campaigns will spend their last four days until Election Day. Today, Obama campaigns in Iowa and Indiana, and in between the events he heads home to Chicago to spend part of Halloween with his daughters. On Saturday, he travels to Nevada (Henderson), Colorado (Pueblo), and Missouri (Springfield). On Sunday, it’s an entire day in Ohio (Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati). And on Monday, per the New York Times, Obama hits Florida (Jacksonville), North Carolina, and Virginia (Manassas). As for McCain, he spends his entire Friday in Ohio; campaigns in Virginia and Pennsylvania on Saturday; then he’s reportedly hitting New Hampshire; and on Monday, he’s supposed to barnstorm through six states (including western ones like Nevada), with a final stop in -- get this -- Arizona.

Video: NBC Political Director Chuck Todd offers his first read on what the presidential candidates will be doing in their last few days of campaigning — and why.

*** Is McCain Michael Myers or Jason -- you just can’t get rid of him? We’ve heard plenty of rhetoric that McCain is closing in on Obama’s poll lead. But is that really happening? One poll definitely moved: In Fox’s survey, Obama’s lead is now just three points, down from nine last week (yet some have noted that the poll’s weighting was changed). But other polls show a pretty static race. Gallup’s registered-voter model has Obama up eight points, after it was nine the day before; the Washington Post/ABC tracking poll is unchanged, 52%-44%; and Hotline/Diageo has the race at 48%-42%, down one point from the day before. Oh, and then there is the brand-new New York Times/CBS poll, which has Obama ahead by 11 points, 51%-40%, essentially unchanged from its last poll that showed Obama with a 13-point lead. The good news for both campaigns: There are enough state polls out there -- including some by some questionable pollsters -- with enough diverse results that both campaigns can latch on to something that makes them feel better.

*** Burying the competition: Was the Obama infomercial worth the millions the campaign spent on it? It looks like it. Almost 34 million people watched the 30-minute advertisement. In fact, as the Times reported, that total easily surpassed the audience for the final game of the World Series and last season’s finale of American Idol. Also, the networks that ran the advertisement beat the one that didn’t. Nearly 10 million people tuned into NBC to watch the ad; 8.6 million saw it on CBS; 7.1 million watched it on FOX; and the rest watched the infomercial on cable. By comparison, 6.2 million tuned into ABC’s “Pushing Daisies.” Poor "Pushing Daisies"; it's actually not a bad show, but it's one of those shows that would be more successful on HBO or Showtime. (We know, save the TV criticism for Shales, sorry Tom; but he does occasionally jump into politics, so fair play, right?).

*** Gore!!! The Terminator!!! Today, Al and Tipper Gore campaign for Obama in Florida on their single favorite day of the year Halloween (their VP Naval Observatory parties were legendary; Al has Frankenstein, the only guy who can go as Frankenstein and seem less stiff, bada bing!). The Gores will be stopping in West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale. Meanwhile, Arnold Schwarzenegger -- remember him? -- finally campaigns for McCain today in Columbus, OH. It was approximately four years to the day that he stumped for Bush in Ohio.

*** Scary Movie (for Republicans): We believe we called it, but Mississippi Sen. Roger Wicker (R) is now using a TV ad Hillary Clinton cut for Al Franken -- in which she argued that a Franken win would help Dems achieve a filibuster-proof majority -- against his Democratic opponent, Ronnie Musgrove. A new Wicker ad concludes, “Send a failed ex-governor to support Hillary’s liberal agenda? Or a conservative with integrity and Mississippi values?” The clip Wicker uses is one of Clinton arguing for a filibuster-proof Senate; no mention of Franken, it's all about making Clinton the boogey-woman on this Halloween day.

*** Exorcist III: The Defamation Lawsuit: In North Carolina, Kay Hagan (D) is now suing Elizabeth Dole (R) for defamation after the North Carolina senator ran a TV ad suggesting that Hagan said the words, “There is no God.” Just when the Minnesota Senate race looked like it couldn't be topped for having the most twists and turns at the end, here comes North Carolina. By the way, there’s some strange final-hours lawsuit news floating around that could stop Norm Coleman's momentum in this final weekend.

*** Obama's radio advantage is spooky: One of the under-written process stories of the cycle is Obama's dominance on the radio airwaves. You looking for a good explanation for why Obama is doing well in states with heavy driving populations (like Florida and Montana, for instance?), go to the radio dial, where he's outspending McCain by huge margins. It's taken Democrats YEARS to realize that radio is not a wasted media effort. Bush dominated Kerry on radio in '04 and well…

*** Fun (or scary) fact of the day: The last time a Democrat won the White House without winning Tennessee was in 1960. And that just happens to be the last time the state was wrong in picking the president. In fact, Tennessee has proven to be a pretty reliable bellwether in the past 100 years -- choosing the eventual winner all but twice since 1912. But Tennessee is even more important to the Republican ticket. No Republican has won the White House without Tennessee since 1924.

*** On the trail: McCain spends a second day on his bus tour through Ohio, hitting Hanoverton, Steubenville, New Philadelphia, and Columbus. Obama holds a rally in Des Moines, IA, heads to Chicago to spend part of Halloween with his daughters, and holds an evening rally in Gary, IN. Biden begins his day with a rally in Delaware (remember he’s also running for Senate re-election there), and then travels to Ohio for events in Kettering and Lima. And Palin campaigns in Pennsylvania, visiting Latrobe and York.

Arizonans can surprise ya.
It's over folks.  The media needs to bank a few more ad bucks, but the election is over.

Obama's winning by a landslide.

It's not like the old days, you can watch the election in real time now, and Florida already has over 40% of it's 2004 total in the bag.  And it looks to be a Obama blow-out, maybe 54-46 in Florida alone.

YOu might as well get used to the fact that there's a massive landslide coming up.

Of course, McCain has one game left to play, and the media, conflict addicts that they are, will go along.  McCain's game is to find any positive poll data,  ad say that he's got momentum.

But, alas, he's a old, privileged politician, a liar by trade.  It's over, has been for awhile.

Enjoy Halloween, it's the last time the scary Repubs will have the Presidency for quite  awhile.
Looks like Murtha is finding out that calling his constituents "rednecks" and "racists" isn't really that good of idea.
I saw McCain this morning - touting Joe the Plumber as a real hero, as his idol? Is he nuts? He vetted Joe (not his name, not a licensed plumber, non-taxpayer) the same way he vetted Palin (for it before I was against it, abuser of powers, seller of state airplane at a lower cost to an associate, real American whose husband belongs to an organization who wants to secede from the Union) Does he have any standards? Have we lowered our expectations of what a hero is? It is now anyone who endorses McCain? Doesn't that devalue the heroes that are fighting this neverending war? He an Palin scare me.
He's not appearing in Gary, IN.  His IN rally will be at Wicker Memorial Park in Highland, IN.  Gates open at 6 p.m. for a rally which starts at 7:30 p.m.  Got your facts wrong, Chuck.

Highland is nice....it's like small town america with a bit of city mixed in...

I just moved to Highland this last month...what timing!!  :)

Hope to see you there shirley
Barack Obama, Joe Biden MUST win this election for the survival of our country.
But, am still very worried about the republicans and all their dirty tactics, trying to suppress our votes and who knows what next.
Stay strong, vote and let the world know we have
had ENOUGH.
Stop dancing in the endzone - we need to hold these guys on their final drive. The time for champaign is midnight on Nov 4th.
The Infomercial was TOTALLY worth it.  A couple of my college friends - old school Republicans (OK, TX) are now voting for Obama after much soul searching (and cajoling by me,...).  They both cited the infomercial as bringing them a level of peace with their decision.  They feel that commercial humanized the entire issues (paraphrasing).  Yippee, granted they both live in states that it probably won't matter,...but at least it persuaded.

Also, while Republicans might want to paint Hillary as the scary one, NOTHING is as scary to me (and both of the above friends) as Palin being a 'heartbeat away'.  She is Bush with lipstick and even less education and National or International awareness.  Seeing Russia from your state really doesn't make you qualified to negotiate with Russia over nuclear disarmament.  Your self confidence is great, your self awareness is stunningly lacking.
This has got to be my favorite FR in a very long time.  VERY funny guys (and gal!)  Thanks for all your work this very long political season.  Will I still need you to be my homepage after Tuesday?
It's coming down to the wire, fellow Obamaniacs.  Polls are pretty much all over the place, but they're generally looking good for our team.  Now's the time to put it down and bring Obama a victory on Nov. 4th.  Get your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, and anyone else you can grab to the polls.  Make sure your vote counts (bring ID, or a bill with your home address with you to the polls).  Don't let anyone intimidate you out of voting, don't let them tell you you can't vote (get a provisional ballot if necessary), and STAY IN LINE NO MATTER HOW LONG IT IS.

Some shout-outs:
- To the FR team.  I've become totally addicted to this site.  I check it every half-hour just to keep up.

- To everyone who posts here, even the McCainiacs (I get such a kick out of the total illogic of your rantings.  They really make my day.).

- To the WORLD CHAMPION PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES! BTW. Thanks for the shout-out, Sarah Palin.  Too bad you were in Erie, PA when you did it and got booed (ever hear of a team called the PITTSBURG PIRATES?).

- To everyone who checked out my blog.  Love the comments, even the negative ones.  I always felt that if an opinion doesn't inspire someone to challenge it, then it's not worth noting.  So for all the meanies out there with the nasty comments, keep 'em coming.

God bless all of you, keep your fingers crossed, and (for those of you who do so) pray for victory on the 4th.

Obama/Biden '08!

When debating foreign policy I wish one of the candidates had clearly defined what "winning an occupation" would look like with respect to Iraq and so forth.
Hillary got robbed by Obama and should be our next president. Ignorant American Men are afraid and do not think a woman is capable of being a leader of this country. Obama will fail and Hillary will return to win in 2012. Hillary Clinton for a better world!
Halloween tonight.

Biden will go as the donkey he is.
Obama will go as senator carrying a sign that says "present."
McCain will go as Joe the plumber &
Sarah Palin will go as Tina Fey (Wonder Woman costumes were sold out)
I keep thinking of the lyrics from the Billy Joel song "2000 Years", as very apt:

This is our moment,
here at the crossroads of time.

We hope our children
carry our dreams down the line.

They are the vintage.
What kind of life will they live?

Is this a curse or a blessing,
that we give?

We'll know in a few days.
Imagine there's not country...if McCain should win.
Here's an Obama Trick. He threw reporters from the Washington Times, New York Post, and Dallas Morning News off his plane. Reason: They disagree with him.

Something to look forward to in an Obama administration I guess.
McCain's cousin endorses Obama:

And in Pennsylvania, a Battleground state, no less.
Pat in Boston...you've got to be kidding me.   MSNBC was so biased and completely UNPROFESSIONAL in covering the election.   It should change it's name to Obama campaign central.    The "journalists" on that network should be really embarrassed for their behavior.  And no I don't drink the Fox News kool-aid.  I think they are just as bad at times.
Obama only has to take swing states like Indiana and Georgia to squeak by.  McCain only has to take states like California and New York and he's in the gravy.

Not sure this free advice has got through, though.
IT'S NOT TO LATE... JUST DO IT ! WE KNOW YOU WANT TO. WE WILL NOT TELL. IT WILL BE OUR SECRET. OBAMA.COM
Now that Obama has a large lead and the election is near he is telling supporters that the hope and change that he said would happen will not happen as quickly and prosperous as he made it seem. Now after elevating everyone up into believing his hype he is bringing them down to the real world. Does Obama ever keep his word? First he changes his mind on accepting public financing, then he changes his position on NAFTA, and now he is booting papers off his plane if they support McCain which doesn't seem to show much "reaching across the aisle" and bringing the country together. And of course he is now taking away the "hope and change" that his campaign has been about for the last 2 years and saying that it may not happen like he made everyone believe. This guy is all hype and no substance. And in 1 to 2 years you will regret electing him president (after he raises middle class taxes).
Where's the coverage of the Obama campaign kicking three news organizations, (that happened to endorse McCain) off their plane?

In an Obama administration, the press will be intimidated into only telling Sunshine stories about 'the one'-

but you like being Pravda, don't you?  After all, the Messiah will make the birds sing, the grass grow, . . .
*Pat, Boston, MA*

Yeah, and MSNBC/NBC are not the laughing stock of the country??  Ah!  Have you watched keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews during this campaing?  Where have you been?  Just because Fox doesn't "seat well" with your choice your're right down insulting them.  Pleaaaasseee, give me a break!  I used to be a fan of Matthews but his bias is so repugnant I can't even look at him without getting sick...(Olbermann I always hated) Stop demonizing Fox.  First look at NBC/MSNBC and then talk....

And I bet you guys at FR won't post this....oh well...
I echo most of the messages this morning.  I always start my day with First Read, especially since I can't bear to watch MSNBC before 9:00 a.m. every morning, when Whining Joe and Mika are on.  When will Joe learn to keep his mouth shut a little more?  I love Chris Matthews, Keith, Chuck, David Shuster, and Rachel "kicked butt" with her interview of Obama last night.  You go, girl!  Can't wait to watch next Wed. morning, though.  I'm one of those addicted to politics this election year.

From an Obama grandmama
Do you think Palin will fade away quickly after next Tuesday?
*************************************************************
No, I don't think any mother who will pull her children out of school for several months, so she can use them as political props while she campaigns, is planning on fading away...ever.....
Obama will destroy the USA. Bush has had the unenviable job cleaning up Clinton's policies of the 90s. Spread the wealth? How f'kd up is that? Giving to others, what other hardworking Americans earned themselves? How does destroying others benefit the nation? Taxing only the wealthy? Wealthy will drive up the costs of the goods and services they produce, then everybody pays more. Facto, reduce the burden on all Americans, everyone benefits. Thank you for the fall of the good ole U S of A.
Hey America! Did you hear the news today! "Insane McCain" is dressing up as Confederate General Robert E. Lee. He will be riding around on the campaign trail today on his white horse with his trusty Corporal. With Nancy Ptotenhauer at his side they will again try to divide our nation. People will hear him yelling. "The South shall rise again!!" The "Dizzy Diva" will be dressed as "Scarlet Fever" or as she is known around the big house the "illiterate one!" Everytime anyone mentions the "witching hour" she goes into a deep trance, and walks right over to her local witch doctor for guidance. What a joke!
I agree with Chuck that this election, more than any I can remember, has transfixed and transformed this nation.  I thank Mr. Obama for bringing back that old fashioned sentiment called HOPE.  There are some (usually those in power) who ridicule this idea of hope. That is because people who have no hope are easy to control.  Regardless of the outcome of this election, we must not lose hope.  I wish God's blessing on us all, in this country and across the world.  GO VOTE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!
Dude... you guys have been planning this post for a few days, huh?

Oh, boys.
My heart is sad today, well this entire week whilst watching MSNBC!!!Why because I listen to Joe(of Morning Joe)literally pray/advocate for the Bradley effect. He and John McCain are appealing to the worst of American, and just like HRC giving white voters permission to go with their dark instincts and vote againt Obama just because he is black.I have faith that they will be proven wrong, and once and for all show evidence that American is continuing to progress. I must have some hope, because my child is Black(Caribbean) and Mexican American Chicano. In the words of HRC 'shame on you' Joe the Hater
Pleaase guys, post this one for me.

As Chuck says thanks for the site. I also enjoy the more thoughtful of the people who post with a special thanks to Chuck and the Pajama Pundit. The material posted as helped my Obama blog and live discussions here in Delmar.

Even Full Moon.

Thanks again

Agai
After Tuesday I will pray for our future. After hearinf the sound bites of the young lady from Obamas rally Wed night after his infomercial I am scared for the youth of this country.

I'll try and remember the exact words...

"This has been the most memorable day of my life"

Why asks the reporter

"I never thought I would see this day come. I will not have to worry about putting gas in my car or paying my mortgage. If I help him he will help me"

WOW is all I can say. If his supporters are that far out there god help us all.
Here on the West Coast, one has to get up pretty early to post anything on First Read. For me, I will be so glad when this election is over. I feel almost sick to my stomach when I think that McCain might win.

As far as intimidating voters goes, it's a little more difficult to do when your ballots are mailed as all ballots are in Oregon. I don't think that I would like the voting machines that are in some states after hearing about the "glitches" that have been happening. Of course, one can't believe everything they hear on the news or read on line or in the newspaper. Just look at what some are saying about Obama--a lot of nasty stuff.

Now and then some posts are really thoughtful and don't call other blogers names. Those are really appreciated. Just as nasty attacks by the McCain camp turn me off, so do the nasty personal attacks by some blogers, whether they come from Republicans or Democrats. That said, have a nice day First Read.
