First thoughts: Our final map

*** Our final map: With two days before Election Day, the final NBC News map shows Obama remaining above the 270 electoral-vote mark, with a 286-157 lead over McCain. Last week, Obama held a 286-163 advantage. Our changes: We moved Montana and North Dakota (which has same-day voter registration) from Lean McCain to Toss-up. In addition, we moved Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and New Jersey (the latter of which we should have moved a couple of weeks ago) from Lean Obama to Likely Obama. So here’s where we stand:

Likely Obama: CA, CT, DE, DC, HI, IL, ME, MD, MA, MI, MN, NJ, NY, OR, RI, VT, WA, WI (227 electoral votes)
Lean Obama: CO, IA, NH, NM, PA, VA (59 votes)
Toss-up: FL, IN, MO, MT, NV, NC, ND, OH (95 votes)
Lean McCain: AZ, GA, NE 02, SD, WV (34 votes)
Likely McCain: AL, AK, AR, ID, KS, KY, LA, MS, NE (the rest of the state), OK, SC, TN, TX, UT, WY (123 votes)

*** Good news and bad news: Our new map comes at the same time as the release of a final round of Mason-Dixon polls, and they contain both good news and bad news for the candidates. The numbers: Obama is ahead five points in Colorado (49%-44%), two in Florida (47%-45%), four in Nevada (47%-43%), and three points in Virginia (47%-44%). Meanwhile, McCain is up one in Missouri (47%-46%), three in North Carolina (49%-46%), and two in Ohio (47%-45%). The good news for Obama -- and bad news for McCain -- is that if Obama holds on to his leads in CO, FL, NV, and VA, he’s going to easily win on Tuesday, racking up well over 300 electoral votes. But the bad news for Obama -- and good news for McCain -- is that Obama is below 50% in all of these polls. And if undecideds break decisively for McCain, that’s how he would pull off the upset. But if the 2004 presidential contest taught us anything, it’s that turnout sometimes is more important than undecided voters. In our final NBC/WSJ poll before the 2004 election, Bush held a one-point lead over Kerry, 48%-47%. And there was the assumption that undecideds breaking for the challenger over the incumbent would propel Kerry to victory. But that didn’t happen. By the way, our final NBC/WSJ poll comes out first thing tomorrow morning.

*** Southern discomfort: While everyone is trend-spotting demographics and geography through the Obama prism, don't forget to examine the state of the Republican Party through those same lenses. In the House, for instance, the grim picture for the GOP is on full display. According to one Cook Report estimate by House editor David Wasserman, the GOP -- in a worst-case scenario -- could have as few as 16 members left in the Northeast (versus 79 for the Dems). In the South, the GOP lead in House seats could be in single digits, 74-68. In the Midwest, 61-39 could be the House seat split. And finally, out West, powered by the Dem strength on the Pacific coast, the Dem lead could 66-32. Step back and look at those numbers: Nearly half of the House GOP caucus may be rooted in the South. Just as it wasn't healthy for the Democratic Party when it appeared rooted in just the Northeast and the Left coast, neither is it good for the GOP to be seen as simply a regional political party.

*** Vice squad: It shouldn’t be a surprise that Dick Cheney supports the GOP presidential ticket, but Obama didn’t let anyone forget that support after Cheney said nice words about McCain and Palin while campaigning yesterday in his home state of Wyoming. “Earlier today, Dick Cheney came out of his undisclosed location and he hit the campaign trail,” Obama said, per NBC/NJ’s Athena Jones. “He said that he is, and I quote, ‘delighted to support John McCain.’ So I’d like to congratulate Sen. McCain on this endorsement because he really earned it.” And the Obama campaign has now cut a brand-new TV ad noting McCain’s “Cheney endorsement’ (versus Obama’s endorsements by Colin Powell and Warren Buffett). Perhaps this is why we haven’t seen Bush and Cheney (until yesterday) on the campaign trail…

*** Biden as Bill Clinton? NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli, who frequently covered Bill Clinton during the primary season and now travels with Biden, says that he's been feeling a sense of déjà vu lately. In the past three days, Biden has held FOUR events in venues where the former president rallied supporters for his wife before the Ohio and Pennsylvania primary contests. (In all four -- Allentown and Williamsport, PA, and Lima and Marion OH -- Memoli notes that Clinton's crowds were bigger.) The coincidence makes sense in that the Scranton-born Biden has much the same mission on the road that Clinton did: to vouch for his candidate in small towns, often in red counties. The larger-than-life former president appeared to move the needle with his early-vote blitzes of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Texas. Can Biden do the same?

*** What “spread the wealth” means? The Boston Globe has a great piece from a Western, PA, county that Kerry won 51%-48%. It found folks open to Obama's message in an area hit hard by steel plant closings. But it touched on something we hadn't yet heard -- that for some voters "spread the wealth" isn’t necessarily a rich vs. middle class argument. Rather, it’s redistribution from middle class to poor. As the Globe puts it, "[T]he notion may play on racist fears of black welfare recipients siphoning money from working-class whites -- fears that have special resonance since Obama is black."

*** On the trail: McCain begins his day campaigning in Pennsylvania, holding events in Wallingford and Scranton before heading to a town hall in Peterborough, NH and then an after-midnight rally in Miami. FL. Obama spends his entire day in Ohio, attending rallies in Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati. Palin also is in Ohio, hitting Canton, Marietta, Columbus, and Batavia. And Biden campaigns in Florida, stopping in Tallahassee, Gainesville, and Dayton Beach.

Countdown to Election Day 2008: 2 days
Countdown to Electoral Vote Count: 67 days
Countdown to Inauguration Day 2009: 79 days

After looking at this, even McCain must be feeling Blue!  Get out and VOTE --- It ain't over til Palin goes back to Alaska!

Obama/Biden '08
I have this feeling that come Wednesday, citizens all around the country are going to be talking about what went through their minds - how they felt Tuesday evening - when this historic election was finally called. It's going to be one of those "JFK/Dallas" moments I think. We will always remember where we were, who we were with, and most important, who we heard it from on tv. Millions of Americans gave their heart and soul this year to see an Obama/Biden victory, so Tuesday evening will for certain be a night to remember.

I would think that most of us hope it's Keith who delivers what we have been waiting years to hear. It just seems fitting to your audience that it is Keith Olbermann. It's going to be very emotional. The country will have chosen in the year 2008, not only a Democrat, but an African American.

Drink of choice: Champagne. Toasts will be lifted to Keith, to Senators Obama and Joe Biden, to David Plouffe and David Axelrod and the entire Obama campaign staff, AND to the millions of volunteers who gave it all for this extraordinary candidate.

They did the impossible.

Cheers to you all.
Virtually every aspect of American life is now in crisis. Only the high road will lead America out of crisis.

America needs Obama.
Thank our founding fathers for establishing the vote to ensure we have a true voice in electing our leaders. We want strong Christian values in place to lead our country. This country was established on these Christian values and should always be the guide. Life is precious and to be respected. We all have to be responsible for our actions and dealings with other people in our lives. Ask what we can do to help our country, not what our country is going to do for us. These values are present to certain extents in both parties, but should always be a priority. When the day ends, feel at peace about the leader you place your vote for and what it represents for you, your responsiblity and your country.
I am so liking Chuck Todd's new map for Monday!  I hope that Chucky T. will be brave and on Tuesday morning set all the battleground undecided states to the candidate he thinks will win them, thus giving us his best estimate of who will win the elecotral college and by how much.  Come on Chuck be brave and give us a Tuesday thrill!

Oops looks like "Dead Eye" Cheney shot his pal McNasty in the face as he slipped up and endorsed him.  What did the secretive liar think his clueless endorsement would only stay in Wyoming?  I hope he just jinzed McNasty in Wyoming.

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!
Any moron that does not know what government does with ones' taxes (spreading the wealth around) needs to read a newspaper...OH! that's right the Republicans don't read..their plumbering all the time because the sh!t is flowing all the time...
And John quit looking at Obama and start looking at the voters needs...

We need Obama/Biden even more now...
I suggest that all the middle class fools that think that spread the wealth means taking from the middle class to the poor read the book Robin Hood.  I'm so sick of these fools who believe the lies of Tinkle Down economics thinking that making the rich richer will somehow help them.  It's time for some serious economic redistribution as wealth has been spread upwards for 28 years and it's what has caused our economic meltdown.

I seriously doubnt that the undecideds break biug for McNasty.  If they're still undecided then McNasty had better start worrying that they break biug for Obama.  Hopefully the undecideds are smart enough to see that McNasty will just steal money from their pockets to give to his Ancient Barbie wife who has way too much money as it is and pays way too little tax.

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!
I am so sick of the continuing coverage of the religious right and their alleged overwhelming support of McCain/Palin.  Faith is one thing, ignorance quite another.  They say the election is in the hands of God.  Whatever happens will be God's will.  Please .... if McCain wins they will praisee God.  If Obama wins, they will say it is the work of the Devil.  Some faith they have!  If it is in the hands of God, then it will be God's will when Obama is elected won't it?  Can you say HYPOCRACY.
Your article should have read:

McCain ='s "The Dick"...but we all knew that...
does that mean Palin ='s "The Holy"..?
Less than 48 hours until I go vote here in California!  Then it's less than 60 hours before we get the great news that Obama wins in a landslide.  I am so looking forward to watching the Tuesday night election results.  I'm even going to watch Fox for a few minutes after the race is called on MSNBC tv so I can hear them squeal like the little piggies without lipstick that they are.  I so want to hear Billo and Hannity Wail Baby Wail!

So pathetic that the evangelical christian lunatic fringe thinks that they can pray away the gay and Obama.  They're in for a real wakeup call Tuesday night as their wicked party of religious fanatics gets their comeuppance!

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!
Democrats, ignore the polls and the comments etc by the media. We must take nothing for granted as the republicans have managed to steal elections before.
Vote, and vote for Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
It is the survival of our country.
The Mason-Dixon polls have had at least a 3% Republican slant the entire polling season.  I trust them as much as trust the Drudge Report polling!
RNC in AZ are running Wright advertisement
Mason-Dixon has had a higher undecided number in every poll I've seen this season. So Obama being under 50 in the states Mason-Dixon has polled isn't surprising.

Mason-Dixon has also been something of an outlier much of the time. So the question is whether that polling agency is correct in not pressing people for an answer or whether most of the others are correct in doing so.
No complacency.  Get out and VOTE at the true poll on November 4.  I'm lovin Barack's new Cheney ad.

I love Chris Matthews but last night on his show he said he didn't understand why people were saying this was a nasty campaign.  Chris, I couldn't believe my ears!  McGimmick's campaign has been build on hatred, racial division, fear tactics and lies (Joe the unliscensed plubmer who owes back taxes as role model) with no discussion of issues or views.  We can't let McGimmick and Palin steal another election.  Make sure your voice and VOTE are heard.

Obama/Biden '08
I can't wait for Tuesday night. I have never paid such close attention to an election in all my adult life. Shame on me. Never again. I have been politically educated. The rumors and lies are mind boggling. The negativity and lack of intelligence is discouraging.  We don't need divisive, hateful, insensitive leaders.

We need a new direction. That is why I am passionate about supporting Barack Obama. I disagree with him on some issues but I believe he is uniquely qualified to unite and move us toward a better place.

VOTE OBAMA!
Scenario What if..

John McCain and Sarah Palin win the election in the fall..

Immediately after John and Sarah are sworn in , Sara declares John McCain
has a  career shortening  case of dementia. Medical doctors agree and she's made President
on Jan. 21, 2009..
She puts all the Blue States and Red States up for sell on Ebay because they are too expensive to support..a broker has to be called in and they're sold at a tremendous loss.

Mexico buys all the Blue State thru a Broker, James Carville and Assoc. Inc. and Canada buys all the Red States thru Carly Fiorina's Clientèle Internationale LLC Brokers.

Alaska secedes from the Union and Sarah moves under “The Reformers Movement Act” all of Washington D.C. to Juneau, Alaska in three months.
First order of business in Sarahington D. P. (new name District of Palin) is to build a 90 ft. fence on the border of Alaska and Canada...to keep the riff-raff out...(really keep the pure people in)..Witches are banned too..
All moose and caribou are hunted to extinction within weeks.
All salmon fishing is given exclusive rights to one company.
God is made to preach in all schools.
Bulldogs become the only dog allowed to breed in The United State of Alaska.
All men must wear lipstick on Anti-Gay Day..
Tanning booths and beds are proven to destroy CO2 and stop global warming if left on 24/7.
Firing people you don't like becomes sound practices of all Fortune 500 Companies.
After 2 years  the lower 48 states, The United States of Canico (Mexico and Canada combined) under President Barack Obama go thru the biggest expansion in economic history.
President Palin embargoes all oil and natural gas to Canico hoping to bring that young country to it's knees. A major explosion happens at the largest natural gas and oil reserves in Alaska  fracturing the fault lines splitting Alaska in two pushing the  planet off it's tilt angle of rotation. Another “Ice Age” begins ..
Morale of this story...If you have a lot of gas be very careful and don't blow it our way Alaska..

We need Obama/Biden even more now...
Thought I would share this from my local paper "Port St. Lucie News".  A local woman, Betty Lounds, 88,dug through some old papers and offers an historical perspective on the silly season of politics:
Definitions:
Communism:  you have two cows.  The government takes both and gives you the milk.

Socialism:  You have two cows.  You give one to your neighbor.

Fascism:  You have two cows.  The government takes both and sells the milk.

Nazism:  You have two cows.  The government takes both and shoots you.

Bureaucracy:  You have two cows.  The government takes both, shoots one, then pours the milk down the drain.

Capitalism:  You have two cows.  You sell one and buy a bull.

The Republican National Trust is running some disgusting ads here in Fl., along with a lot of McCain ads.  Don't be fooled!!!!

GO OUT AND VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN '08

Go Out and Vote Obama/Biden '0e
These polls make me nervous...I am worried that the people who say they support Obama, just will stay home thinking they do not want to get on a long line, youth vote not showing up as they said they would...etc.  Obama is correct...get out and vote Please!  Too much is at stake! VOTE!
Mason-Dixon has had a huge lean toward McCain this whole campaign season.  Its not surprising that he is relatively close in any of these polls.   They all favor McCain by at least three points compared to the average of the other recent surveys.  But none of these polls will matter come Tuesday night.  It will be a landslide baby!
To Floridians:

I'm still wondering how Alaskan problems apply to the national level...
The culture of Alaska is so remotely positioned, I'm excited for them but the snow job that Sarah Palin depicts about Alaska stinks of oil revenues and limited industrial and manufacturing and Hi-Tech work forces..
To backwoodsie for this country to try an experiment called McCain/Palin..
Tell SnowWhite Dudette and WhiteHair Bald Dude  thanks but no thanks.
I live in Iowa, I have recieved six mailings from the McCain Campagn. They were so negative. Suggesting Obama is anti American and is linked to terrorist. I am nearing retirement age and am registered as a independent. I threw the first five away. The last one was really the worst. It is targeted at Seniors. It states that Obams will raise social security taxes, his health plan will cost each American an additional $3000 per year. Who fact checks these nasty fliers? Somehow I don't think it is right to send untruths in the mail and on Robo calls. Candidates should be held accountable. What ever happened to bearing false witness. All of this gives Democracy a black eye. I am over 60, female, and white, however my vote is going for Obama. I have not recieved even one negative mailing or call from his campaign. His 30 min infomercial was an example of what American politics should be. No attacks, no mention of the opposition. Just 30 min of what Obama will do for America. I agree with every word that Colin Powell stated in his endorsement. Barack Obama is a tranformational figure and a once in a lifetime leader and hope for America. I am one of those small contributors who donated many times during this campaign. I have never donated to a political campaign in my life, however this election is the most important one this generation will see.   Go Obama 08

"it touched on something we hadn't yet heard -- that for some voters "spread the wealth" isn’t necessarily a rich vs. middle class argument. Rather, it’s redistribution from middle class to poor."  Well duh, anyone could tell you this- of course, the McCain/Palin "spread the wealth" message is a dog whistle to white fears of "welfare queens" etc. I find it hard to believe you guys weren't able to grasp the point of this message until now! this is the last gasp of the Republican fear-and-division tactics. I hope people have figured out they are being played.
"[T]he notion may play on racist fears of black welfare recipients siphoning money from working-class whites -- fears that have special resonance since Obama is black."-- LoL
==============================================
There are more whites on welfare than Blacks, especially in Appalachia. Wake up people if that's what's holding you back.

McCain supporters, it's ludicrous to think all undecided will vote McCain.

Btw:  Sarah, we’re still waiting for you to release your medical records? THIS IS HUGE; SINCE SHE CAN BARELY STAND UP STRAIGHT; I SUSPECT PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS ARE BEING HIDDEN. IF YOU’RE REALLY THE WHACKO THAT MCCAIN AIDES SAY, THEN US (WE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE) NEED TO KNOW SHOULD, BY SOME CORRUPT WAY, YOU WIN.

INSTEAD OF WHO IS OBAMA WE NEED TO KNOW WHO SARAH PALIN IS!!!

ARE YOU BETTER OFF 4 YEARS AGO; RATHER, ARE YOU BETTER OFF FROM 4 WEEKS AGO?

Voting McCain/Palin as Joe the dumber Plumber says... and we will get more of the same last 8 years of or 4 more years mystifies me.

Beverly, the voter
Vote EARLY for self and country if you haven’t; vote Nov 4th
Vote Obama/Biden; I did.

Obama/Biden - be sure not to let McCain/Palin trip you up. The Dems were so sure that they would win in 2000 & 2004, weren't they? But King GWB ruled.
It is obvious that republicans do not believe in democracy.  They have rigged the last two elections.  The republican say, look out for ACORN.  The republican have actually subverted our democracy (last two elections).  McCain has lied, cheated and done just about anything to be President.    He comes out about the economy only after Obama.  Most of the things McCain has said lately have come straight from Obama (help the middle class).  McCain has been in congress for 26 years and America is at it worst place since the depression.  With experience like that who needs experience.  McCain has experience in destroying our country.  The surge is working but at the sum of 10 billion a month.  This war the government and the President lied to get us into it.  How do you win a mistake?  McCain keeps pushing the surge is working and we should not even be in Iraqi.  What kind of logic is this?  If you want our country, bankrupt and isolated please vote McCain.  Four more years of Bush.
"Be everything you can be, the sky's the limit."

But not in a socialistic society.
