Hillary's statement

Posted: Tuesday, November 04, 2008 11:39 PM by Carrie Dann

Below is the statement by Hillary Clinton on Barack Obama's victory in the presidential race:

"Tonight, we are celebrating an historic victory for the American people. This was a long and hard fought campaign but the result was well worth the wait.

Together, under the leadership of President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and a Democratic Congress, we will chart a better course to build a new economy and rebuild our leadership in the world. And I look forward to doing all that I can to support President Obama and Vice President Biden in the difficult work that lies ahead.

For too long, middle class families in this country have felt invisible, struggling alone as wages stagnate, jobs disappear, and the costs of daily life climb upward. In quiet, solitary acts of citizenship, American voters gave voice to their hopes and their values, voted for change, and refused to be invisible any longer."

There 'ya go again John McCain.

Had it not been for the negative campaign over the entire general election you might have had one more vote.  Multiply that times however many voters don't like negativity, and WOW, 270 is closer.

I have been voting for 36 years, and this is the first time I have ever voted for a Democratic candidate for President.  Thanks to you for Barack Hussein Obama's victory, and my intuitive notion to vote for a candidate that displayed a much more professional and positive campaign and more so, a caring and positive attitude to all AMERICANS.
On September 12th, 2001, I would never have thought our country could have elected a President whose best friends were terrorists and whose middle name is Hussein.

God forgive them, for they know not what they do.
Even though she bashed Obama, I think that this a very sincere statement.
Stay classy Hilary...
Clinton 2012 :)
Speaking as a 44 Y.O. White Male, we can now say that "All Men Are Created Equal".  Great Victory for America and the World!
Great message from former First Lady Hillary Clinton. I'm hoping that President Obama (wow it's unbelievable that I can finally write that now) will make Hillary a part of his official cabinet. I would love to see her a part of this historic regime.
God bless Hillary. She beat him up, she tested him, but in the end she brought her people home.
well said,,,wish you were in this spo though, but obama is better then mccann by a long shot. yes, use families living paycheck to patcheck need a little help once in a while. Congrates Obama
Thank you Hillary and thank President Clinton. Thank you for all of your contributions to the politics of America and for the support of Senator Obama. This is truely a time of change, of positive change. Not only for America, but for the whole world as well.

Just out of curiosity, why is it that the election was called for Obama before the polls closed in Alaska?  I know that it doesn't matter at this point, but it seems a slap in the face to the republican VP candidate.
I have the greatest respect for Senator Clinton, she has proven herself to be sincere in her drive and motivation to be a spokesperson for the people of America.  I look forward to Senator Clinton making great strides for the American public as we move for under President-Elect Obama.
where on my ballot is the area to check none of the above lets do this again?
God help us all now that Obama bin Laden, the New Marxist POTUS has been Select by the DNC to run our country!
GOD HAS A PLAN FOR EVERYTHING ON THIS PLANECT ALL THAT WE HAVE TO DO IS TO WAIT FOR HIS OWNTIME, AND NO BODY SHOULD BLEM MR BUSH FOR ANYTHING.THANKS
This is truly a night of our better angels and a great night for America and the world. What a night to remember. How amazing and beautiful.
John McCain gave a classy concession speech.  He was gracious and a gentleman.  A great American.  I have a question are all of you that call yourselves a Patriot and AMERICAN going to disagree with but support your President Barack H Obama.  That is what really American’s great and small do.  That’s what makes America work, that‘s what makes America great.
wow....what is america coming to?  we vote in a terrist to run our country?  what the hell were u people thinking?  oh ...you werent?  Where is osama...I mean OBAMAs birth certificate?  hmmmm...couldnt come up with a united states one...but yet he is worthy of running our country....you should all be ashamed.
Well, I feel like I should quit my job so someone can support me now that we have so much 'hope'.
Congratulations, President Osam...I mean Obama.
Thanks for letting us have our governor back.
The electoral number in Alaska was only 3, President Obama already had more than enough when California, Oregon and Washington came in......... nothing against Governor Palin
I understand that Obama has won the electoral votes. I must say I feel very doomed and I am not a pessimist. Everything I work for will soon be "shared" amongst everyone else including the illegal aliens so we all have the same, no matter how hard I work. What more did Obama have to do to prove he's unfit for the presidency?

Have extensive ties with terrorists? Check.
Proclaim America's founding document to be "fundamentally flawed"? Check.
Threaten to bankrupt an industry that provides half this country's juice? Check.
Promise to weaken America's military, empower the United Nations, boost the standing of the world's tyrants. Check, check, check.
Push an economic plan ripped from the pages of Karl Marx? Check.
Denounce self-interest -- i.e., the lifeblood of a market economy -- as "selfishness"? Check.
Have a late-game revelation about an aunt who's an illegal alien enjoying public assistance, ignoring deportation orders, and making illegal campaign contributions to Obama? Check, check, and check.

Sure, America could use a change in focus, but that doesn't mean the most radical departure possible will somehow pay the biggest dividends. On the contrary. Everything Obama threatens to do will actually weaken America and her standing in the world.

And to add to all that he has no pride in the American Flag and can not (or will not) prove his own birth records as an American Citizen.

One day very soon, everyone will feel the results of the tragedy that has occurred on this day. Unlike 9/11 that immediately shocked us all, we will feel our country slowly disintegrate into oblivion. By the time Americans realize what has happened we will be like the frog in the pot that slowly rose to a boil and was cooked. Our days are now truly numbered. Religious people talk about the End of Days and I always felt that was something to happen a very, very long time from now. Now it seems by 2012 we may actually see the end.

There is nowhere else to go unless we head to India to find a job, so we must all sit and watch this play out. Most democrats will think this is sour grapes or "whining" but McCain was no picnic either. He was just not going to turn us into the socialist USSA.
Please Hillary! "A Democratic Congress"? If anything, this election shows that the American people are finished with the same old partisanship that has stained our politics for too long. This election has been about unification. President-Elect Obama will need to work with EVERYONE and for EVERYONE. Please do not burden his achievement with the same old divisive language.
And in a year or two we won't like this presedent either
Greg in Gridley: I hope that one day, you will open your eyes, and not judge a man because of his middle name or believe the lies you were told by someone you idolize. What's the difference if our President-Elect's middle name is Hussein? Do you really think that a casual relation to a 'terrorist' (Who happens to be a well respected professor) would qualify as being a best friend? It's no small wonder Republicans managed to stay in the White House for so long. President-elect obama earned this victory, and we should all now work together to get our country on the right track again, and back to prosperity and peace.
The electoral number in Alaska was only 3, President Obama already had more than enough when California, Oregon and Washington came in......... nothing against Governor Palin
I am very proud of Senator Clinton.  She has integrity and spirit of no other woman I have ever seen.  Very distinguished in her challenges, and even though she wasnt a candidate for our Presidential ticket, She backed Barack Obama with all she had along with President Clinton.
BLESS YOU HILLARY!
So many people are caught up in the propaganda and mud slinging of this election. All this talk about a “socialism government” is just ludicrous. Are people forgetting there is a senate and congress that is still in power or are those same people just so used to Bush having executive power with no checks and balances.  Another thing is the Bush family is close friends with the Bin Laden family or has that also gone to the wayside. I have heard and read so many people say “it’s a sad day for America” and I ask myself why. America was built on the Idea of making your dreams a reality and for Obama that is what happened. Some people need to wake up and smell the flowers I have been a Republican for entire life and voted proudly for Obama because the US cant take another economic fixes from the republican party.
Senator Clinton's sincerity in her adherence to the Obama campaign and unending support for him, even though he took the seat from her, is just a hint of what is to come in the intersupport of our govenrment to come. Finally, we can be sure that brighter days are ahead! Congratulations to all members of the Obama Campaign, big and small.
Another "glass ceiling" is shattered tonight! And Hillary's statement was classy & much appreciated by the Obama supporters out there.
Former First Lady Hillary Clinton forgave the lies and racist (calling the Clinton's racist so as to move the black vote from Hillary to himself) campaign and fount the PUMA reaction to that dirty campaign that had more than half her 18 million primary voters refusing to support Obama, and worked day and night to get over 90% of the PUMA folks to support Obama, locking down a very narrow popular vote win that allowed the electorial vote landslide tonight.  A very classy lady - who should have been our 44th President.  And on TV tonight I've seen the ungrateful slime that are some of Obama's supporters tell the talking heads that Hillary did nothing special because what she did she "HAD" to do. Many Democrats will be like myself and hold our praise for Obama until we see if he carries out his promises - see if he gets passed and into law universal health with a Medicare like option to the insurance company offerings, see if union signed card voting is approved and treaties become "fair trade" instead of "free trade", and see if promised Federal income, estate, and payroll tax changes are passed, before we return to the Democratic Party - indeed how women - including Hillary - are treated by the DNC/Dean/Pelosi/Donna Brazille will be watched closely before another dime of our money or time again go to the Democratic Party.  Congratulations to Obama - he now has a chance for greatness - we will watch to see if he actually achieves greatness.
To Greg in Kansas,

Your ignorance and intolerance is astounding. Thank GOD for Barak Obama and his message of hope and tolerance. God forgive you...

God have mercy on you who are blinded by hate, and mention the lord's name in vain.
I see this as a transparent attempt at attaining power having been thwarted in her real goal. Hilary was relentless in her campaigning against Obama, making a slew of undignified remarks and allusions. I am certain that he sees her statement for what it is.
Okay America, you've taken the first step forward by electing President Obama.  Stay involved.  This is our country and we should remember that we do have a say in our furture just like tonight!  I see change in America's future!
Well job done for President-Elect Obama you ran a campaign that could've not been imagine. Good job
There are alot of sourpusses on this blog. Get over it. Obama won! Move on and stop spewing your hatred already.
People of America! We all talk about this so called change, but very few actually know what that change is. For the sake of our nation I hope that this change is what we all want. I believe there will be change. We will see this change as our nation falls to those who hate us and will destroy us under a learder who does not know what to do.
The comic hour is over and the seriousness that our new President and Vice President have projected leaves me to believe that America's hour of need will become more of a reality than one could ever have hoped for.
Now, may Hillary be the second one to make history in 8 years from now!

God forgive you for your lack of knowledge. Kenya is not the driving force behind September 11, 2001.
If you are referring to a Muslim background, perhaps you should do some research on Bangladesh where Mr. McCain's daughter is from (80% Muslim.) OR perhaps we should just remember that we are a rather young nation that is free to embrace, celebrate, declare, speak of, and accept our diverse backgrouds. And for the record, as a "white" christian of european decent, I accept the fact that you are protected by our constitution to express your opinion without fear of persecution. I believe that Mr. Obama is of Christian faith and if his name was Max or John Michael Smith, we wouldn't have these misconceptions. Regardless, please do NOT blame the religion of a person based on other's actions. Remember Timothy McVey? Good old white Christian boy born right here in the good old U.S. of A. Judge ye not. God loves us all.
All of the previous comments bashing the President (links to terrorism, his ethnicity, no birth certificate?) proves that there are still many ignorant people in this country and a lot of change is needed if we are to truly be the United States of America.  And thank you McCain and Hillary for such encouraging words and I wish them the best in their political careers.  It's nice to know that people can still lose graciously.
I am from Canada. Though I cannot vote in your elections, I live on a bordertown and see Americans everyday in all parts of my life. I liked Hilary Clinton and it was unfortunate that she and Obama both couldn't win, but thank god America made the right choice.  I have a lot of respect for McCain, but felt that his choice of Palin for VP was the beginning of his defeat.  His speech was incredible, and I think that no other Republican would have gotten as many as the votes as McCain did.  He was the Republican's only hope in winning.  I live in a "socialist" country where our taxes pay for our health care and wellbeing. I could never imagine the feeling of having to pay for my health care.  And we don't have long waiting times.  Cute comment about the USSA, though completely misguided.  Firstly, illegal aliens cannot collect welfare checks or other social supports because they have to prove they are american citizens, no? If I, a young, white, Canadian female were to live in your country illegally, would you classify me as an illegal alien, or do you reserve that term for other ethnicities? Puh-leaze! The government is not going to rob you of all your money, and you probably will only have to pay like an extra grand at the most if you make more than 200k per year.  Last I checked, those who make 200k per year are not that hard up.

The rest of the world thanks you, America.  Never have I been so proud to live next to your country.
Greg, Gridley, Ks: Your claim that Obama is a terrorist clearly identifies you as an idiot.
to all you wacky folks who bought the propaganda spewed by the right -- get over it.  we all had to shut up and suck it up for 8 long years.  it's now your turn, it's called the democratic compromise.
We still love you Hillary!  Make Obama keep his promise on the health care plan for Americans.  Don't forget us and thanks to you and Bill on rolling up your sleeves for President Elect Obama and VP Elect Biden.
