McCain: The infighting begins

Posted: Thursday, November 06, 2008 9:25 AM by Domenico Montanaro

The New York Times looks into some of the infighting between the McCain and Palin camps. “As a top adviser in Senator John McCain’s now-imploded campaign tells the story, it was bad enough that Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska unwittingly scheduled, and then took, a prank telephone call from a Canadian comedian posing as the president of France. Far worse, the adviser said, she failed to inform her ticketmate about her rogue diplomacy. As a senior adviser in the Palin campaign tells the story, the charge is absurd. The call had been on Ms. Palin’s schedule for three days and she should not have been faulted if the McCain campaign was too clueless to notice.”

More: “[T]wo top McCain campaign advisers said that the clothing purchases for Ms. Palin and her family were a particular source of outrage for them. As they portrayed it, Ms. Palin had been advised by Nicolle Wallace, a senior McCain aide, that she should buy three new suits for the Republican National Convention in St. Paul in September and three additional suits for the fall campaign. The budget for the clothes was anticipated to be from $20,000 to $25,000, the officials said. Instead, in a public relations debacle undermining Ms. Palin’s image as an everywoman “hockey mom,” bills came in to the Republican National Committee for about $150,000, including charges of $75,062 at Neiman Marcus and $49,425 at Saks Fifth Avenue. The bills included clothing for Ms. Palin’s family and purchases of shoes, luggage and jewelry, the advisers said.”

What’s next for McCain? "Before resting from the grueling presidential race, John McCain began discussing with senior aides what role he will play in the Senate now that he has promised to work with the man who defeated him for president," the AP reports. "Democrats, who padded their majorities in the House and Senate, have a suggestion: McCain can mediate solutions to partisan standoffs on key legislation as he did to help avert a constitutional meltdown over judicial confirmations in 2005."

God sits high and he look below, he allow the confusion between McCain and Palin because Matin Luther King dream had to come to pass. America needs President Elect Obama for such time like this, I work as a Poll clerk and I was so happy to be apart of this historic moment. Its a blessing for me and my family. I told my two sons the can accomplish anything that is good in the sight of God. Yes we can.President Obama we are praying for you and your family. God bless you.
MSNBC reporting is the worst reporting I have ever seen. Extremely, biased against the Republicans. I'd be suprised to even see this post on the blog. The information here is false. The Republicans picked up the clothing FOR Palin. Palin did not choose the clothing that was paid for so this information is false and a continuous attempt by the drive-by media to cause problems for the Republicans. That's okay though because you get what you pay for and Obama is a death wish on our Economy and Defense with NO prior experience at all.
The Palin being talked about today is the same Palin I've seen from the start, self-glorifying, psychotic, manipulative, and unapologetic about any of her personality traits, which if she'd been observed longer, would have come to light and the republicans wouldn't be in their current predicament.  I just don't understand how anyone couldn't see her for what she turned out to be.  Coming out only in a towel to see McCain's people??  She reminds me of the Kathleen Harris of Florida as portrayed in "W".  Scary!
Although this is the nature of politics, it's hard not to think that Republicans are feasting on eachother.  First Powell, now eachother.  Also funny how conservative radio now claims that McCain was never their guy, even after he traded in his maverick style for far-right Palin.  A hint of advice, have a message, bring in supporters and start a movement.  Although the perception is that conservatism in US politics is dead, it probably could survive if it had a message to go with it's rural-American face.
The whole McCain campaign struck me as being a disorganized group.  They had trouble keeping together and getting local groups to do anything.  I'm sure the MI GOP isn't happy about being dropped when McCain's campaign pulled out.
Everyone is drain from a long campaign.  McCain advisors believe that their reputations are at stake therefore their livelihoods.  By January, no one will be talking about the clothing spree.  Given the popularity of the sitting president, it is amazing that Senator McCain did as well as he did.  Had the topic stayed on commander in chief, he might have won.  The republicans should take McCain’s lead and handle defeat with grace and dignity.
Surely the Repws can't be upset over the lipsticked pig's behavior..she was just doing what your party brought her in to do.......being Mavericky! guess it backfired big time. Gimmicks always have a way of doing that. These advisors shuld voluntarily give their salaries back to the McCain campaign given the shotty (sub I for o for true sentiments)work done by all!
MSNBC has the best reporting around for Republicans.
Here in Arizona we always watch. Chuck Todd is by far one of the best talents for the network. He calls it like it is.
As a McCain supporter since the 1980's, I feel the reporting from MSNBC was more balanced than Fox.
I do miss Tim Russert and his Meet The Press.
Chuck todd would be great in that position.
The Liberal media continues to be biased and prejudiced against conservative and Republican causes, candidates and realities...no wonder so many are turning to Fox news for their information!
Ed, Jacksonville, Florida: How can you say the reporting was biased against Republicans and then blame the Republicans for Palins clothing purchase. It is you who is biased. We will probably never know who made the purchase. We do know that the Republican claim that Obama was elistist is just for idiots who believe anything they say. After all who had 7-14 houses and whose wife said "the only way to get around Arizona is by private plane".
Will small town america always be tricked by these politicians.
The elections is over!!  Leave Sarah Palin & John McCain alone, especially Sarah.  Get over the fact that a lot of people do like her, so stop putting out the trash about her. I watch Fox News because of your biased views against the Republican party.  Get over it all & find something else to talk about.
Magoo and Carabou Barbie need to be driven out of town on a rail. The campaign was one of lies and totl unprofessionalism. We don't want or need to see their kind again. Whack them!
Sarah Palin was chosen by John McCain simply to energize the Republican base.  And she accomlished that.  The reality, however, is that the Republican base is a minority party of the overall population of the USA.  More people fit in to center right or center left; therefore, Palin's far right politics did not sit well with the majority of the population.  And let's not be fooled...Sarah is not an intellectual giant...far from it!  Her antics proved her to be an opportunist and unqualified for national office.
Please don't end it for Sarah. She was the only comedian on TV this last 4 months. I think the republicans should bring her back in 4 years. It would make for a good Sarah Part Deaux.
susan marshall, port charlotte, florida,

Since you listen to FAUX News, did you hear them report that simple Sarah didn't even know that Africa was a continent.....she thought is was a country?

Yes, aren't they reporting fair and balanced news about this idiot from Alaska?
Susan Marshall, Paort Charlotte, Fl.----the trash about Sarah, she deserves, do you remember all of the trash that was flappin from her gums during the campaign---oh I guess you fell into the I forgot syndrome.  Sarah was not ready for being someone's VP and her answers to some pretty basic stuff showed that.  Remember if you call the pot black, the kettle is coming back at ya, so if you can't take it then don't dish it!  I tried to be very well balanced and read many books (both views) and watched all news sources and I must say that faux news is just that faux news period.  You can not claim that one source (faux news) is correct while the rest is wrong, kind of like sticking your head in the sand and believing chicken litte that the sky fell.  The majority of the country has spoken, unlike the dunce in chief and your party calling veterans who disagreed with him unpatriotic, Obama is starting off by trying to appeal to all Americans by asking us to work together. I plan on doing my part and hope that this country that I bled for starts to come back as being one instead of being so divided which we can thank the dunce in chief for.  As Sen McCain stated in his concession speech, it is time that we work together and repair this country.
I am a center/slightly left registered voter and certainly was not a supporter of the McCain ticket, but, the frequently seen, spokesperson Nicole Wallace always showed class and dignity. If reported accurately, Ms. Wallace was put in the unenviable position of being one of Mrs. Palin's handlers. If someone had to choose, what they believed was the truth, between Ms. Wallace and Gov. Palin .....I'll put my money on Nicole Wallace. However; it must be said...Nicole has no hidden agenda nor do I believe she would speak ill of the Gov.
the funniest thing i have ever seen is the repukes talking about sarah palin having a place in the party or even being the face of the party. when did being smart and having a deep insight become un-cool. i guess its better to take a twit for your rep than say someone that knows about more than just there small part of the united states. maybe if ther were more blacks in the repukes party insted of being pro white they would have a clue. how many seat do blacks have in the repubs party?
Ed and Susan and any other people in denial about Sarah:

Still in denial? Palin is nothing but an opportunistic, corrupt politican who would have gotten away with all her unethical corrupt behavior in Alaska had she not accepted without thinking, er, blinking. She took the RNC and McCain campaign for everything she could and I am certain when the accounting is completed we'll know a lot more about her shenanigans. Besides, if your theory is correct and she was not involved (which is extremely doubtful) then she could have said, "Hey, I'm a normal hockey mom, Joe sixpack and the economy is in the toilet. These items are too expensive and extravagant and its not the image I want to portray." See? It was a no brainer.

And now she doesn't want to talk about 2012 because she has to see where her kids are and how it would affect them? She didn't think about them for one second when she didn't think, er, blink and accepted the nomination for which she will never be qualified.

Please. Snap out of it. When are you goin to accept the truth about hopefully has been Palin? Her and her grifter family are losers!
Oh give me a freaking break. "Liberal Media"?! That's a joke. Fox "Noise" is media that's biased. If there's dirt on Palin and it's reported, that's biased? What is there a gag order? What reasonable person didn't see Palin for exactly what she is? I never heard so many lies from a single campaign as I did from McCain's campaign. Palin was a complete joke. You going to say Palin doesn't think that Africa in a country and not a continent?

Give me a break.
To Ed from Jacksonville,  FL........

And you know this how??  Were you part of the McCain staff and made privy to this??  Or did you do the shopping for her??
Sooo ....the repukes KNEW that she was as dumb as the American people did,yet they tried to pass her off as VP material????? One heart-beat away from a 72 year old heart.
What does that say about "America First"?????
They once again tried to trick us!!!!
The Good news is we didn't fall for it! I think the leaks say much more about the sleazy McCain campaign's disregard for America than it does about dumb Sarah!
Without a doubt, the single greatest failure in the campaign was the failure of the initial rescue plan, the collapse of Wall St., and McCain heading back to DC. There was continuing talk about McCain's age, his ongoing battle with skin cancer, and his choice of Palin as a back-up. McCain, in my opinion, made some poor decisions during the campaign that       questioned his decision making ability. Palin as a gov.---OK! Maybe a rep or a senator, but not quite ready for international affairs. She's very likable and represents Alaska well. McCain did himself in. He chose and he decided. The blame is his and no one elses.
While I didn't approve of the Palin pick, I don't think that the McCain camp should be leaking information.  After all, she did what they wanted, energize the base of the republican party.  She did not appeal to independents or moderate democrats. That is their mistake, they didn't want us, and both parties need us to get elected.  Go Obama/Biden
I don't understand the negative comments that are made about Sarah Palin. The truth of the matter is that the some brillant person in the Mccain camp thought that having a woman as a contendor for vice president would get the vote that Hilary Clinton left behind .It back fired. I like Mccain as a person and thought his speech was sincere but, I voted for Obama.
I voted for Obama because he was the right man for the job. Republicans can say what they want Palin is an idiot, imagine her on the show are you smarter than a fifth grader the answer would be NO. The McCain camp never had a chance. Dear Sarah 2+2 IS NOT SHOE EVEN THOUGH IT RHYMES.
