NBC calls NC for Obama

NBC News has declared Barack Obama the projected winner of North Carolina's 15 electoral votes.

As we noted in First Read this morning, elections officials will count the remaining provisional ballots and formalize the state's election results later this month.

North Carolina joins Indiana on the list of previously ruby-red states in Obama's column. George W. Bush won the state by 12 points in 2004.

Obama's hard-won victory may be partially due to increased enthusiasm from African-Americans. In 2004, John Kerry only won 85% of the black vote in North Carolina; this year, Obama beat McCain among black voters in the state by a margin of 95-5%.

Thank you, Howard Dean !!
For all the complaints, Dean's 50 state strategy laid the ground work for this victory

Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have ALL DONE a GREAT JOB !!

They'll do an even better job when they have a GREAT PRESIDENT in the White House !!

Obama / Biden
The WINNING TEAM
post something today please
[In 2004, John Kerry only won 85% of the black vote in North Carolina; this year, Obama beat McCain among black voters in the state by a margin of 95-5%. ]

And it appears blacks have become more racist over time.
You can add to the black voter theory a significant influx of voters to Charlotte & Raleigh from the Northeast, a large number of universities in NC a large number of college educated voters in Raleigh & Charlotte as well as a free spirited liberal class in eclectic Asheville.  I am a college educated, over 50 white male, recently moved from the Northeast to Charlotte and worked for Obama
:)

Still basking in the glow of President-Elect Obama! Doesn't that sound GREAT!

YES WE DID!

Senators?  Obama?  in your mind a book.

Harvard.     Obama.

They also alter behavior and what else with electrodes?  Would you want something taken out of your mind?   childrens?
What's wrong with Texas?  The Lone Star state, stands alone!  Not willing to embrace Change of any kind.  Holding on to the old Bush/Delay mindset.

Love my state, hate it's politics!
Excuse me...but is anyone home?...Our comments have yet to be posted.  Now that the election is over, have we stopped accepting comments?
Duke Bluem Carolina Blue, now NC is BLUE!
And the John McCain campaign suffers its final beatdown of the 2008 U.S. presidential election.  I kinda wish there were more states so Obama could win those and bump up his totals.  But I guess this'll have to do.
Yes we can. As a resident of Mobile, Alabama, I am glad to see others in the proverbial "south" coming to their senses and voting mind over God.
I am proud to be "BLUE" in North Carolina!!!
I am proud to see the state I live in finally leaning and turning BLUE!!
MSNBC should put up a banner saying, "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
The good news just keeps coming.  I should call my aunts down in Laurenburg, NC and thank them.

Thank you MSNBC!!!!!
You have proven that center left news is a real good thing. Chuck, Keith, Chris and David Shuster. Like Tim used to say.  "What A Country". "This Is Big".
Uh Sharon... maybe you need to get a good night's sleep. That's the most paranoid raving I've heard since the Ron Paul "truthers" demonstrated at the GOP Convention.
it just gets better and better! now if only missouri would also go......president elect obama was right on the money when he placed his trust in the goodwill and goodness and decency of the american people. while slavery has been called our country's original sin, so too the stain on our american soul from torture, suspension of habeas corpus, warrantless wiretapping, renditions, signing statements and every other way the bush administration attempted, and in many instances, succeeded in circumventing our constitution.
Things move FAST for the O Team:

- O Team Ready to go under John Podesta
- Chief of Staff Emanuel accepts
- Communication Director Gibbs set up
- FBI briefing today in Chi Town
- Room 3E971 setup in Pentagon for O Transition Team
- President Elect Obama meets with Bush next week
- Economy Presser Tomorrow
- Still gets in 2-hour workout
- more we don't know about

Not all of us moving into the wonderfully BLUE state of North Carolina are from the Northeast...I'm a former Californian who finds this beautiful state energizing, exciting, diverse and coming of age politically. Proud to be a transplant and proud we just gave our 15 electoral votes to President-elect Obama.
What about Missouri?  The plurality is only 6K and there are lots of provisional ballots to be counted in St. Louis.  More than likely these are overwhelmingly for Obama.  Will this change the presumed outcome in Missouri?  It's only fitting that Missouri turns blue so that it can retain it's 'bell weather' status.

I too, am still basking in the glory of an Obama presidency.  I still well-up when someone on the news refers to President-elect Obama.  It's not only that I have been an admirer of this man for four years but, I feel that we have overthrown the most oppressive administration in my lifetime.  I feel as if I can breathe again...like my country has been returned to it's people.  I don't want a country that is right or left but a country where discourse, even disagreement is encouraged because it is out of this engagement that the best of all ideas will be culled.  The Lee Atwater/Karl Rove days are dead.  Hooray for the United States of America.  God Bless us all.

10xcsn obama the man....
yeah
I was sickened by Alaska not turning blue for Obama and even more sickened by the support Alaskans are giving Stevens, Young and Palin, the 3 peas in a pod.  It is never OK to vote for a convicted felon and send him to DC to represent Alaska.  Alaska, stop voting mindlessly for people who should never hold public office, especially people who represent the great State of Alaska!  Alaska has 3 people in Palin, Stevens and Young who have all been under suspicion of misconduct while in office or in Steven's case, a convicted felon.  Young will be next.  Stop voting for criminals Alaska, what is wrong with all of you??
We also had a huge well-organized ground game here in NC working hard to canvass, phone call, GOTV, etc.  I am proud to have been a small part of turning this state blue!
As a life long native of NC, an Obama supporter and volunteer, I am so very glad to see NC join the majority of the country in knowing a good thing when they see it.

Remember, America...we did this together, and this is the only first of many great things we will do with Obama and Biden leading the charge. To everyone who supported them, keep supporting them and keep doing your part to get this country back on track.

God Bless America and God Bless Barack Obama and Joseph Biden. Here's to a new beginning, a bright new day, and a better future for the country I love.

Yes we DID!
...wow.............never been prouder of my home state
The drubbing continues!  Thank you Carolina Blue!
---OBAMA/BIDEN 20008---
My home is in Wilmington NC and I live and work (for the time being) in Charlottesville, VA.  I worked my heart out for the Obama/Biden team and it does my heart good to know both states went blue!

My daughters live and attend UNCW and they have been very active on Obama's part.

WE DID IT.

GOD BLESS THE OBAMA AND BIDEN FAMILIES.
Thank You fellow citizens of NC!!!!!

Congratulations to all Tar Heels!  The country truly is changing and for the better.
The market has fallen dramatically since Tuesday as many predicted. The plunge must end or it will be a disaster.

Most Texans have drunk the right-wing kool-aid. It renders the mind unable to make rational decisions. Also, a poll revealed that 25% of Texans think Barack Obama is a Muslim. Maybe people should have to take an IQ test before they're allowed to read anything on the internet. Increasing migration from the north and increasing latino population will soon (I hope) bring Texas back into the real world like Virginia and North Carolina.
OK.  I'm a little confused.  It looks like you've called all 50 states now.  But the totals of 364 and 173 only equals 537.  Where's the extra one vote?  Is Omaha's vote still up for grabs?
I have to say I was quite disappointed that Mississipi, South Carolina, and Georgia didn't do better.  I also do not believe John has actually won Missouri.  Obviously this is not a close contest so I do not expect any further inquiries.
Back in 1999, when Bush won, the country went into a recession, and the liberals blamed it on Bush, even though he wasn't yet in office.

In 2008, in the two days after Obama has won, the country is going into a recession, has a lost 1000 points on the DOW, and you guessed it, the liberals say it's Bush's fault.
The sky is falling! Check out the stock market! People are selling to protect the money at an alarming rate since the election. Two day number greatest drop after an election EVER! Head for the hills!
It isn't a huge surprise.  There was enough of several factors that made it close.  There were many new voters (first time and transplants from other states) as well as the large African-American community that was looking to support one of their own.  African-Americans supporting someone from their community isn't "racist" because there are other groups that would likely support someone from their community; Catholics supporting a Catholic candidate as an example.
I was also thrilled to see MY state turn BLUE - Florida finally did it!!!!
Wow this site is terrible today. Rahm Emanuel accepted the Chief of Staff position.....where is that?
Congratulations, NC voters!!  Sitting here in the RED Bible belt, I envy you that the majority of you (even if it was close) had the vision to elect the right person for president.

Like VotedForChange about Texas, I will never understand why Kansas stays so Republican when it's definitely NOT in our best interests (nor the country's).

It's rather ironic that one of the more famous abortion doctors/clinics is in Kansas.

[Still basking in the glow of President-Elect Obama! Doesn't that sound GREAT! ]

Nashville_fan (Sent Thursday, November 06, 2008 1:18 PM)

Sure. If you're an idiot.

[YES WE DID! ]

Caused the market to tank? Yes, you did that. What are you going to do about it?
Please tell Sarah that NC is on the continent of North America!
GO Tarheel state!
Can we use the "L" word yet?

Oh hell...

It's an OBAMA LANDSLIDE!!!!!
John McCain is probably going to feel relieved by all this in the long run-- he'd be President, but being overshadowed by Sarah Palin's antics the whole time would really take the shine off of it.

Go Obama-Biden!  Yes we can!
The south isn't the only area in the country going through demographic change not to mention the hope and empowerment of minority voters.  Congrats NC!

It appears that the state of Oklahoma is now one of the reddest in the nation, I'm sorry to say.  Of course OKla. isn't growing; it resides in the lower columns in education and income as well.  Something about the great plains - Texas to N. Dakota and intollerance seem to go together a little too well.
I called my baby sister at lunch who owns her 2nd home outside of Asheville NC and she was ecstatic.  I am also thrilled about North Carolina.
We Hillary Supporters are watching. We gave our support to Obama and in return we expect a lot of input into the new administration and policy. Obama could not and would not have won without us. Remember that. We must be heard!

Kathy - have you seen the list of candidates for positions in an Obama administration? Caroline Kennedy is the only woman on the list. Hope that's enough to make you happy. And don't say we didn't tell you so.
R. Byrd,
I can't believe you have the audosity to even speak about racism considering you reside in one of the most racist states of all 50 states.  I just can't believe you.  By the way, GA, KY, TN, AL, TX, and SC are the others.  It's amazing to me how the most racist states are all within the 'Bible Belt'.  Strange huh?
