First thoughts: Obama meets advisers

*** Obama meets advisers and the press: President-elect Obama gets down to business today by meeting his transition economic advisory board and then holding his first press conference since his victory Tuesday night. For his economic meeting, Obama is trotting out some big guns, including former Clinton Treasury Secretary Bob Rubin, former Clinton Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers, Warren Buffett (via speakerphone), former Fed Chairman Paul Volcker, former Clinton Commerce Secretary William Daley, former Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich, Google CEO and Chairman Eric Schmidt, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, and L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Are we supposed to read into anything that some potential Obama Treasury secretaries are participating in the meeting (Summers, Buffett, Volcker) and others are not (Tim Geithner of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon)? Appearing on TODAY, Summers sidestepped questions about whether he’s Obama’s top choice for the Treasury job. As for today’s presser, Obama will have lots of questions to answer today regarding the economy with the backdrop of a cratering stock market, awful job numbers (240,000 lost last month), and depressing retail sales figures. Specific answers he gives to his position on a stimulus package and where is he on bailing out the auto industry could have the potential of dominating the headlines.

VIDEO: Obama will meet with his economic advisers and hold his first press conference as president-elect. NBC's Andrea Mitchell reports.

*** Rahm’s absence from -- and message to -- Capitol Hill: With Rahm Emanuel becoming White House chief of staff, it’s worth pointing out how this takes away a HUGE player in the House Democratic caucus. Not only was Rahm in leadership; he was the unofficial political adviser to many of the newly elected members of the Congress from both the last cycle and this one. Many of them will be missing his counsel. In addition, the Emanuel hire removes the most likely person who was going to be playing the role of "Obama's go-to guy in Congress." Then again, with Rahm on the other side of Pennsylvania Avenue, he'll likely be able to identify whom the Administration will need in the House. Perhaps the most underreported aspect about the Rahm pick is how it’s a subtle message to Pelosi and Reid that Obama isn’t going to rolled over in dealing with Congress.

VIDEO: NBC's Mark Murray gives his first read on Obama's selection of Rep. Rahm Emanuel as White House chief of staff and looks at the blame game going on within the losing McCain campaign.

*** Mr. Axelrod goes to Washington? We’ve also learned that David Axelrod, Obama’s chief political strategist, is likely to work in the White House as an adviser to President-elect Obama. But, perception-wise, is this potentially problematic? Remember that Karl Rove followed Bush to DC, and many thought that move overly politicized the White House, especially after Rove became deputy chief of staff after Bush won re-election in 2004. Can Ax successfully not look political when he's dealing with a key policy issue? That was always the problem Rove had. Still, having Ax in the White House probably means that the organizational and message discipline the campaign was known for will continue. And no doubt that Axelrod will study the errors Rove made.

*** Palin-tology: Once again, it’s Palin -- and not McCain -- who continues to dominate the post-mortem McCain-Palin headlines. Apparently, there's a race going on inside the McCain-Palin campaign to frame exactly what Palin did or didn't do for the ticket. Palin is trying to tamp things down herself. In a word, it's a "mess." NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell reports that Steve Biegun, a top campaign official who served as a foreign policy adviser to both McCain and Palin, defended Palin's knowledge of foreign affairs and basic geography. He said her knowledge was "the base level of international experience was what you'd expect a governor to have." On the specific reports that Palin was confused about whether Africa was a country or continent, Biegun said that while he was not present for the reported exchange, he defended her by saying he could understand "somebody being tested or quizzed could easily stumble country and continent." Overall, Biegun acknowledged the limits of Palin's knowledge about world affairs saying, "Certainly, there were gaps in what she … knew and there were things we had to go through in greater detail. The kind of preparation I did with her was the exact same kind of preparation I would do for the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee when I worked for him." By the way, on TODAY this morning, McCain adviser Nicolle Wallace was asked about a few of the latest controversies, including whether the RNC had sent someone to Alaska to retrieve any clothes. Wallace both defended Palin but didn't deny the RNC had possibly sent someone.

*** The “What if…” game: We’ve devoted a lot of attention the three-legged stool of support that Obama received from African Americans, Hispanics, and voters 18 to 29. NBC’s Ana Maria Arumi projects what would have happened if you had removed one of those legs. When Arumi re-ran the numbers to eliminate all voters under 30, the only states that switched into the McCain column were the narrowly won states of Indiana and North Carolina. If there were no Latinos voting, both New Mexico and Indiana would have switched into the McCain column. However, in the make-believe world where African Americans wouldn't have voted, Obama would have still won most of the states that he won -- but McCain would have taken the swing states of Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Those 107 electoral votes would have then been enough to flip the race. The most important thing to take away from this little experiment: Obama's coalition was much broader than the conventional wisdom suggests. (Never mind the cynics among us who may now send all these "young voters did it" press releases into their junk email folder.)

VIDEO: NBC's Chuck Todd maps out the results of Tuesday's election.

*** What’s left, House edition: Three days after Election Day, Americans now know which leaders their communities have chosen to represent them in Washington DC. That is, unless they live in OH-15, MD-01, CA-04, or VA-05. In Ohio’s 15th CD, Republican Steve Stivers leads Mary Jo Kilroy by just 146 votes. If victorious, Stivers, a pro-choice moderate, will fit the model of the centrist Republicans who escaped defeat in a political environment hostile to the GOP; if Kilroy wins, the sometimes uncharismatic candidate may have Barack Obama’s Ohio coattails to thank. In Maryland’s 1st Congressional District, the race to replace Rep. Wayne Gilcrest is separated by 1900 votes.  Gilcrest, an Iraq War opponent, lost the Republican primary. In California’s 4th District, fewer than 400 votes separate Republican Tom McClintock and Democrat Charlie Brown. The winner will replace scandal-ridden John Doolittle, who chose to retire after his ties to lobbyist Jack Abramoff promised to throw a wrench in a reelection bid in this heavily GOP district. And in Virginia, according to the State Board of Elections, Democrat Tom Perriello leads conservative Republican Virgil Goode by 648 votes. [<--UPDATED] (First Read noted last weekend that Republicans must have smelled trouble in this usually solid GOP district. The NRCC sent out a press release slamming Perriello as an out-of-touch New York City elite.)

*** Poized for success? California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner (R) is making a bid to be California governor in 2010 -- and consequently perhaps the most important Republican in the country. Yesterday, he passed around an op-ed he wrote about the GOP’s current woes: “Republicans proudly proclaim our core governing principles to be individual freedom, smaller government, lower taxes and economic policies that promote investment and job creation. Voters who closely examine what happened in Washington D.C. over the past eight years, however, certainly didn’t see this.  What they saw was a Republican track record of runaway spending, skyrocketing deficits and shameful ethical lapses. On Tuesday, it is clear Republicans were judged on their actions, not their words.  For this we can only blame ourselves.”

I think his first press conference should be a great boost for those who voted against him. I am confident that Obama will have the answeres to the pressing questions he will get. He will begin his Presidency on the right foot, wanting to govern all of America, which is a great thing for our country in a time such as this.

Once again, it’s Palin -- and not McCain -- who continues to dominate the post-mortem McCain-Palin headlines.
*******************************************************

Is anyone really surprised?  McCain is a season political veteran.  He said himself many times on the campaign stump that 'the American people know me'.  The American people did NOT know Palin -- therefore she will continue to dominate the headlines under the 'what if she hadn't been chosen' meme.

http://thepajamapundit.com/
Wouldn't it be amazing if Sarah Palin became Senator of Alaska and had to go to DC with a President who she considers a "terrorist"? Evidently she mustn't have REALLY believed what she was saying. The hypocrisy is mind boggling. The right wing has to change their message big time. Liddy Dole wasn't given her walking papers just so another ignorant right wing Senator from Alaska could come to town.

Joe Scarborough, nothing wrong with conservatives being disappointed in the Republican Party right now. However, you're supposed to be a professional. Leave it at the door. You sound like a spoiled brat these days. People who lose with dignity and grace have a way of making changes, one step at a time. Your behavior is very unbecoming. The right wing talking points aren’t going to cut it any longer. In Boston the right wing radio stations are besides themselves with hatred right now. Tough. It never occurred them to look at their own party and the mistakes they were making these last 8 years. They chose instead, one more lie, one more excuse for GWB & Co.

By the way, I don't believe the Republican Party won the cultural wars. People just grew up, married and raised children.  We ARE becoming very fast - a progressive country. Just look out west and learn about what they care about. It's turning blue as you saw Tuesday night. For good reason.

You're way behind the times, longing for something that doesn’t exist. (That’s a line from Gone With The Wind.)

The entire world right now has more faith in President-elect Obama than you do. Typical right wing nonsense. Support your new president. For at least a week please. There is a great deal of work to be done.

JOHN McCAIN'S GREATEST INSULT TO WOMEN.....

Thanks to John McCain, the LEAST qualified VP candidate EVER was also one of the only two women ever to run for the office. Accordingly, it is now a WOMAN holds this pathetic and embarrassing distinction. Thanks a lot asshole! Dan Quayle must be singing songs of joy now.

McCain should be called out for this - thanks to reports now leaking out, we ALL KNOW now that Palin was incredibly ignorant of the basic facts and issues, but we also know that McCain was aware of this! He KNEW she was not qualified, but every day he LIED to the American people - just to get elected! He clearly did NOT put country first. In fact, he quite literally put his country at great risk!
I have mixed feelings about the "leaks" we are now seeing about Sarah Palin. On the one hand, I feel like she is reaping what she has sown - divisiveness and (dare I say it) bitterness.

But on the other hand, what good can come from just trashing someone for the heck of it? Maybe it is time to let bygones be bygones.

At the end of the day, Sarah Palin was hired for a job she was unqualified to do. I'm not mad at her for wanting to be VP - nothing wrong with having dreams.

I'm more upset with all the people in the Republican establishment who were willing to sacrifice the best interests of our country, (and ironically in the long run, Sarah Palin) for the chance at a political victory.

It adds an added touch of irony to the McCain campaign slogan "Country First". Nothing could be farther from the truth.

P.S. To Mark from Seattle: Thanks for the shout out yesterday and thanks for sharing your experience as a poll worker and your experience with the African American voter in her seventies - it gave me goosebumps. (Tried to post that yesterday, but not sure if it will show up today or not.)
Whatever is going on with Palin needs to stop fast. The GOP factions that are trying to destroy her reputation are making a big mistake. They are turning her into a sympathetic character. Olbermann half-way defended her last night - YIKES!!!!
They are going to create a monster that is going to come back to bite them in the rear end! Are you listening Mitt Romney!
Stop talking about her, ignore her, and she will go away or at the very least be exiled to the outer ultra conservative edge of the party.
I left the Republican party because of the neo con atmosphere.  I even voted for Obama.  If the likes of Palin is the best the GOP can come up with I will never cross back and expect there are many other conservative minded folks in agreement with me.
How ironic that African Americans voted in record numbers and overwhelmingly for Obama, and probably the reason for his election, meanwhile, the formerly oppressed minority group now takes on the mantra of oppressors, as they voted overwhelming for Prop. 8 in California, and are now credited with writing in discrimination into that state's constitution, literally taking away a funamental right from a minority group.  To them I say, Shame on You! You of all people should know how we gays feel about this!  How dare you!  You should put your heads down in shame for placing this stain on our country! Yes, you!
Ode to Obama: Creedence (CCR)(written by Fogerty)

"I see a Bad Moon Risng, I see trouble on the way.
Don't go out tonight, there's a bad moon on the rise."

This first presser will set the tone perhaps for Obama's presidency and certainly the transition period and his first 100 days. Does he move on to specifics, or just continue the vaguely optimistic rhetoric of the campaign?

http://www.political-buzz.com/
How many out there wonder..."What has President Bush been doing this last year, the last 6 months.  It seems like Obama has already hit the ground running and Bush is just...watching.  It is good for American to see a President...work.  I trust his transparency as Obama has everything to gain by keeping Americans informed.  I believe a lot will get done, even before Obama takes office.

Axelrod is no Karl Rove!!  Any comparisons are out of line and beyond "Just Wondering". I'm curious a about David Plouffe. I suspect he will stay in the Windy City and manage the data in order to call out the Obama nation when needed.  What do others think?
Terminate Arnold!  It's way past time to get rid of that Hollywood Elitist Jerky Boy who now wants to jack up our sales tax 1.5 percentage points while not raising taxes on the stinking top tax bracket slacker tax payers.  Time to raise the taxes on those who can afford them best.  Typical the Tinseltown Flake wants to jack up a regressive tax that will bring down retail sales and hurt the poor and middle classes.

Only the braindead evangelical christian lunatic fringe think that the Wasilla Hillbilly is a viable candidate for 2012.  She will be long forgotten by then as the repugnant ones will eat her alive if she tries to run again.  She is the laughing stock on all intelligent Americans!  Maybe she'll learn that there are lots of countries in the continent of Africa.

Yes We Did!
Mr Biegun I don't have a clue where you went to school, but if they were giving high school level tests to Vice  Presidents and they could not pass the test, then how on earth could anyone say she was close to being ready to lead.A collage grad.Makes you wonder.
Barack has to make it 74 more days til the innaugaration.

"Perhaps the most underreported aspect about the Rahm pick is how it’s a subtle message to Pelosi and Reid that Obama isn’t going to rolled over in dealing with Congress. "

If Obama reigns in Redi and Pelosi, it would be my wildest fanstasy come true!  He would have had my vote for sure in 2008 if he publically repudiated them.  If he does so in his first term, he has my vote in 2012.
I hope that everyone is coping with their CDD - Campaign Deficit Disorder.  First Read has been the best place on the web for posting comments about politics!

I hope that Chuck Todd and the FR crew get their own show on MSNBC tv.  I suggesst that they replace Mourning Jerky Joe!

Hey how about all those job losses?  Thanks clueless repugnant ones for bringing us the worst president in history and thanks for screwing up our economy.  Now us adult Demcorats have to clean up your mess by raising taxes, as always.

Yes We Did!
There are three rules that govern my behavior and I wish that George Bush had given some consideration to them as well:
1.  First Do No Harm
2.  Treat Others as You Would Like to be Treated
3.  Never Leave a Place Worse Off Than You Found It

Bush was handed a wonderful gift from the Clinton Administration. No wars, a great economy, and a balanced budget. Bush is now leaving an daunting mess for the next president to try to resolve. But, I can think of no man than President Elect Obama better suited or better equipped to handle such serious concerns this country faces.

No, it won't be easy and certainly will not be quick. It will require sacrifice from us all. We will be tested as Americans from every front, but I'm willing and ready to really put Country First and do whatever is required to help my country and my president through these rough times. President Obama will not be given the liberal latitude that was granted unconditionally to Prez Bush, but I'm cool with that because we have a President who thinks before he acts. How refreshing that will be.

BARACK OBAMA - THE MAN FOR THIS SEASON
"Joe Scarborough, nothing wrong with conservatives being disappointed in the Republican Party right now. However, you're supposed to be a professional. Leave it at the door. *stands and applauds*

Pat, I have made a concerted effort to ignore Morning Joe-ke. His comments (particularly on the morning of November 5th) are so very small, petty, and most of all SELF CENTERED. His narcissism knows no bounds.

For him to still be whining about Ronald Reagan and the New York Times while much of the world dances in the streets at the election of our new President is just sad. The only thing sadder is watching the other people sitting around the table trying to pretend that he is not a self absorbed lunatic. (It brought me great joy when Brian Williams called him out the day after the election - it's about time somebody did.)

This is crude, but it is the best analogy for what Joe Scarborough does every morning: He pees in our collective coffee. And that's just not called for.

Help us all if Obama follows the Jennifer Granholm of Michigan plan over the last 6 years which has killed growth and jobs here. Her taxes on business and job suppliers has left Michigan with the worst economy and the highest unemployment in the country.
'Perhaps the most underreported aspect about the Rahm pick is how its a subtle message to Pelosi and Reid that Obama isnt going to rolled over in dealing with Congress.'

Still fishing for validation that Obama will govern from a postion of percieved weakness.  I have yet to President-elect Obama roll over for anyone.

Sarah Palin didn't have the basic knowledge that anyone interested in national and world affairs should have.  She cannot speak in understandable compound sentences (listen especially to Couric interview) w/o a script, and her approach to communicating w/the public includes flirtatious winking which is inappropriate and gives professional women a bad rap.

You may blame the staff for the fake phone call going thru, but it was Palin who naively listened FOR SEVEN MINUTES to the exaggerated accent, inappropriate comments, and obvious incorrect names, all the while giggling like a school girl.  Please, this is not leadership characteristics!
Palin is causing controversy. Huh. She was such an excellent pick, and completely ready to take the reigns, never associated with terrorists or bad people in any way, well-educated and thinks on her feet. Who'd have guessed anything like that? McCain's first important national decision and he goes with Palin. And now there are recriminations. Huh.

Hey Biegun? Are you saying the base knowledge for a US governor is zero, or is all this screaming about Palin from people who I guess saw it first hand misplaced? She's really not a vicious little idiot? Because that's what I get, and once that's known there's no going back. She's done.

Full Moon - it is a huge disappointment that the sunshine and flowers days of GWB are over, isn't it? Now you can go back to doing what you do best: barking at the moon.

Pat Huntington NY (Sent Friday, November 07, 2008 9:51 AM)

____________________________

You were the one that trashed Obama as being a 'high risk' candidate, every time the polls moved a bit. There is no shame on any voter, voting their thoughts, when asked to do so. This is a democracy. There is no shame in that.

We Obamabots were proven right, where is your apology?.

Those who believe that same sex marriages are wrong, have the right to express that.

The Lord will judge between us.
I think Obama is going to do a great job. God bless him. He has my support.
To Pat Huntington, NY:

As an African American woman, I agree that it is sad that many in our community do not understand the importance of EVERYONE having an EQUAL right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

While it is hurtful that so many devote their time to holding people back instead of lifting people up, please do not feel that the African American community as a whole is vehemently opposed to the gay community. Nothing could be further from the truth.

In many cases, I think people (of all races) often view these measures from their own "straight" perspective, and feel they are voting to affirm "traditional marriage". Of course, the result is denying a basic right to another group.

I still have faith, that in the long run, people will realize that if any group is oppressed, we all are.
The very first thing the conservative talking heads did was to start critiqeing the people who President Elect Obama both select and was interviewing and considering to populate his government. They mumbled that "will be look across the isle" and "he is selecting people who are not compatable with the right."  Yeow!  They need to understand, they lost. History is never written by the losers. These are the same yellow dogs who sniveled and bitched for the last eight years that the Democrats need to roll over faster. Remember the thought of the day, "Paybacks are a bitch."
Just wait everyone will see that obama said anything he could to get in office. not one day after he is president elect he said - it may take a year it may take more than one term for change. HMMMMMMMMMMMMM sounds like a regular wash dc politician. Dems biggest complaint about McCain was he is another Bush. I think I just read Obama is tapping Former Pres Clinton advisors for the new administation. Oh wow sounds just the same as McCain is another Bush. If Obama is picking Clinton Advisors - it made more sense let Hillary run then we actually have Bill Clinton in the White House.  He just in a different office than the Oval Office. Can't wait for all the democrats to  turn on Obama when his taxable income level drops down to the middle class. Just wait he cant run a country by taxing 5 percent of the people.
It is good to see things moving along quickly, and that rational decisions are being made. The idea now is to move forward, and not let any "Reckless Repubican" motives get in the way. Remember, America is still watching the GOP, and RNC very carefully. So no tricks GOP/RNC, because your party will not like their political treats. That is fact!!
I find the retaliation against Palin appalling!

The GOP used her for their dirty tactics and now they have no use for her.

Where are those damn PUMAS?

This woman can’t be that dumb, grant it she is seriously lacking in some areas.  What is going on here is what I have been screaming for weeks.  The republicans have a history of mistreating minorities; women are part of this group.

Surfacing stories of Palin being the new face of the GOP AIN’T GONNA NEVER HAPPEN!  Mark my words.

I can’t believe I am defending her, but they hired HER as the Tonya Harding to bring Obama down, because they knew to attack her, would cause the DEMS to be labeled as sexist.  Their plan backfired and now Palin has taken a terrible fall.

It is not by accident these things are being leaked, the republicans are low down pieces of crap to do this woman like this.  Now she is standing on television apologizing…give me a break!  She should have told the GOP to kiss where the sun doesn’t shine.

My grandmother always warned me that a man can walk down the street butt naked and tomorrow it will be forgotten, but let a woman do the same; she will be crucified until the end of days.  The old boys network is going to get back in business and Palin (a woman) will NEVER be in that group.  McCain chose Palin, but nothing has been said about him at all, it’s all Palin’s fault right now!  APPALLING!

Why was it during the RNC the men were moved out of the front rows for the women to fill in all of a sudden…hellloooo they played the game!  Women should have been mixed in as it is on the Dems side and it has been this way for quite some time now.

Women are stupid for supporting that ticket; especially those women who voted for McCain to get back at Obama.  They don’t respect women PERIOD!  If the republicans actions toward Palin don’t wake women up to realize the republicans don’t give a crap about us; I don’t know what will.
The question is will the media turn on Obama after a few months in the White House.

And when they do how is Obama going to handle it?

And if the reports are true that single women put Obama in the Presidency, then they must need something better to do .... like clean house or do the damn dishes.
Pat Huntington NY: I am a native Californian disgusted with my state for enacting Prop 8.  I think they will rethink that travesty, only the ignorant think it a good thing to write discrimination into a Constitution. It is just a matter of time, my friend...

As to Morning Joe, had it on for a couple of minutes, still wondering how MSNBC thinks someone that inane should host a program.

For your information Joe and Mika, the correct comparison for Sarah Palin isn't Ronald Reagan, it is Dan Quayle.  And as I recall, he didn't become President did he?

Please do something about Moron Joe.  It is so bad it is laughable.
With the heavyweights Obama is talking to today, it is sure a long way from a left liberal socialist agenda.  I say great.  Wonder what garbage Limbaugh and Hannity are going to spew today.
In Germany, as well as in most other countries of europe, obama received broad support. McCain was seen as the cowboy stereotype of America.

But it is low-standard to ask the the what if question after decisions were made. One never knows what if, and is, in my opionion, better of that way.

Apart from that, raising discussion about Palin afterwards is futile, i wonder why noone had a closer look during the campaign. If McCain would have won with Palin the child would have fallen in the well as we say in germany, meaning that u can not do anything about it to reverse. So just be happy with Obama and continue Your support.
Greetings from across the ocean
As a white, over-50, female voter who supported Obama from the beginning and, among other things, dragged more than a few under-25 voters away from their cell phones and to the polls, I'm growing a little resentful of all the focus on how it was the youth vote that did it. We ALL did it.
I think people are missing the point on the importance of young people. Many young people who were NOT eligible to vote became galvanized by Obama. Consequently, they formed an integral part of the GOTV movement that made a VERY RAINY NC go blue (I  live in NC, trust  me, it was nasty but they were out ther with umbrellas and calling folks to vote). If the contribution of the youth is counted only by the number of votes, it will lead to cynicism. I think it is even  more remarkable that youth who were non-American felt that they wanted to  belong to this movement. Therin lies the awesomeness of this election.
I sincerely doubt David Axelrod would create the kind of MESS in Washington that Karl Rove did, mainly because the Obama campaign was nothing like the scorched-earth style of Karl Rove.

PS: I'm still hoping to see Karl Rove get his due for screwing up the DOJ.
Ode to Obama?!?  "Bad Moon Rising" was released in 1969, the year we got stuck with Nixon.  I think Fogaryy's "Centerfield" would be far more apropos;

Well beat the drum and hold the phone, the sun came out today.  We're born again there's new grass on the field.  Aroundin' 3rd and headed for home, it's a brown eyed handsome man.  Anyone can understand the way I feel!

Why?  Are you still discussing Ms. Palin, she's demonstrated that she is simply a TRAINWRECK.

Thank goodness the American Electorate recognized that.

The GOP/Republican Party needs to find a new message that resonates with the American public.

Thank the Lord that Ms. Palin, Joe the Plumber, Joe Six-Pack did not fool the VOTERS!

This is simply REVOLTING news coverage especially when there are REAL problems in the ECONOMY.  Problems that the GOP/REPUBLICANS created.
A party that campaigns via negative attack advertising and now leaks negative information about their own candidate has to really be happy that Americans (at least 52% of them) saw through the hatred and lies to the core message == Republicans will do anything and say anything and use anyone to get power. I suppose the party needs to re-examine that core belief.

As far as Sarah Palin goes you get what you ask for in politics. Enjoy the next 4 years Sarah - you earned them.

At the end of the day, Sarah Palin was more of a series of poor judgement decisions by John McCain and for this he was judged. It will go down as one of the worst campaigns run by the Republican Party of all time. Like Senator McCain always said on the stump: "We make history." Well you were part of it man. It must feel terrible to be so close to ultimate power and yet end up so far from it.
In terms of gaffes,I used to wonder why there was ever a comparison between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden. Listen, whilst Joe Biden makes mistakes and we call them gagffes, it is so much different from what Sarah Palin says. She is just not informed enough to be at the Predential level. In short, Sarah Palin just does not know how much she doesn't know. It scared me to think that she really thought that her answers to important questions were quite adequate.I don't blame her though, I blame John McCain for picking her and then defending her ignorance. (She honestly believes that being next door to Russia is experience enough.)
It's repulsive to speak of scenarios in which black citizens or Latino citizens or ANY citizens are denied the vote.

How about running a scenario in which devout Christians are denied the right to vote?  Mormons?  People over 70?

Disgusting.
Of course, can Ax-man can successfully look apolitical when he's dealing with a key policy issue! Once  again, repugs lost the message; an Obama administration as evidenced by an electorate indicates an Obama administration wants US(we the people of America) to come together , solve the nations problems, and not repeat a failed Bush administration.
That was what Rove did/represent; he and Bush only cared about money and power employing   divisions to achieve that end evidenced by Wall Street’s Meltdown and them (repugs) dividing us as their stock exchanged.
Still, I don’t know who the Treasury position will be; yet how can not trust Obama brilliant judgments. Obama just pivoted American history since 1492.
Like Spike said… this is BB and BA time e.g. Before Barack and After Barack. For me this translates to… it is time for America to put aside her differences and work together for our future. Congressman Rahm Emanuel or Ramhbo won't let anyone pull the wool over a President Obama administration. His loyalty and ability to getting the job done is of tremendous value not partisanship.

Whatever choices, it speaks to President-elect Barack Hussein Obama; preparedness and vigilance.

Once again,  Congratulations, President-elect Barack Hussein Obama; US (we the American people)will do it again. We are at the base of your constituency.
Well, Mr. Obama may not meet everyones requirement
to the "T" but, let's set back, watch and give him an opportunity to shine.
pat from huntington, you are beginning to sound like a broken record and if i may so myself, i think you are a closet racist....

african americans have value systems just like whites...all forms of discrimation is wrong, but racism and sexual orientation biased are equitable!!! for the record african americans are not making up oppression...it was and still is part of our history in this great country. ..by the way, i am latina, not black....i just find your whining offensive..

those african americans voted their religious morals.....unfortunately it didnt work out so great for your special interest!! latinos voted for it in great numbers too and i already know it's because of the moral and religious beliefs...is it wrong? yes!!!! however, please stop spewing your bigotry and hate because it will not help your cause..

i find the whole idea disgusting, but i didnt vote against it because that is a personal thing....i also find sushi disgusting, but i am all for others eating raw fish if it pleases them.....

get a life and find a more constructive way to help those who are in the dark come to light....perhaps you can explain why it is dangerous for all of us to mix politics with religion???
From a non-partisan perspective I think Obama will turn out to be one of our better presidents. The right wing talkers are SO angry but they should only be angry at themselves. They supported (most of them) a terrible president who did not uphold their party's values. They supported a war that most Americans disapproved of. In short, they support ideals that the minority of Americans hold, yet they are surprised that the MAJORITY of Americans did not vote with them. What I hate even more is that instead of moderating their message, they continue to blast Obama and drum up fear in the populace. I work for an employer who listens to right wing radio all day and I think she is close to joining the KKK after all they are filling her with. It is scary.

I think picking on Palin after the election should be off-limits because she did not do anything wrong. McCain picked someone who had no business running for VP and tried to put lipstick on a pig. Asking her question like does she think she was a drag on the ticket is kicking someone when they are down and offensive to me. Of course now that the election is over, she is talking very different, saying things like "we should all come together". WOW! Who is the REAL Sarah Palin?
Crazy=doing same thing over and expecting different results.  Obama was the most liberal senator.  Now that he is elected, everyone expects him to govern from the center.

Wake up, he just appointed another Chicago buddy in Rohm, a man known for deviciveness and extreme partisanship.  Why doesn't Barry pack up Chicago's govt and move them all at once.  Would save time and money.

This guy is going to be too extreme, mark my words.  Raising capital gains tax rate is the last thing we need, and he will do that plus rescinding the Bush tax cuts; that was his pledge.

The jury is out on his turkey in every pot pledge.
The fallacy of "slice and dice" demographic/geographic analysis is that each segment is not an island unto itself. Blacks can be Young Voters, Women Voters or Male Voters. (A few could conceivably be be Montana Voters).

I believe Plouffe, Axelrod and other Obama strategists recognized this and decided to opt for more general strategies that transcended political, demographic or geographic lines.

It worked.
BE NOT FOOLED: Giants of literature, and economists,we
are a world much like in the days of NOAH. You will
not suucceed by immoral means, unless we humble ourselves and allow the LORD JESUS CHRIST to lead us
we are doomed and no amt. of stimulis funds can or
whatever will sustain us to the end. The leaders of
this world are tied to to GODS will regardless who is in power.
The Democrats have built an awesome base. How stark was the difference between the demographics at both conventions? The dems wept, while the repubs yelped. That was a sign.

There were so many signs that convinced me that G-D was with Obama's candidacy.  Thanks to Chuck, Domenico, Mark, Athena, Carrie, Ron, and Luke, etc. You have been great.

Congratulations to all of my new friends; the posters.

Nashville, I too almost went blind reading here every day, all day. Can you relate to sticky, mucousy discharge? I thought, this is what happened to Ray Charles! Yet I kept reading late into the night. The only thing that saved my sight was being pulled away due to family concerns. (My Dad is getting better).

You are my heros. You hung in there all the way. Clara, Nashville, Mark, sotired, jawille, Sue, MSierra, Pajama, Margaret, Adam, Brendon, Fiesty Redhead, Amy, Eric, C A, Molly, Beverly, Dianne, Beth, Pat, Kieth, Chris, Christian, Pete, Gary, BJ, and not the least of which Pat from Boston. There are many others. I believe you all made a difference. Enjoy the victory. It is sweet.

"Can Ax successfully not look political when he's dealing with a key policy issue? That was always the problem Rove had."  NO, NO, NO!!  The problem Rove had wasn't that his presence made things LOOK political.  The problem Rove CREATED was that EVERYTHING the Administration does IS political.  THAT is the thing that made Rove unusual if not unique in Presidential history.  If Axelrod doesn't share Rove's predisposition to see every statement and decision as a political calculation instead of the business of the People there won't be a problem.  There also won't be a problem if Obama doesn't blindly follow every partisan impulse of his political handlers the way Bush has...so there isn't likely to be a problem.
