The details on today's meeting

From NBC's Andrea Mitchell
A source familiar with today's White House meeting tells NBC News that President-elect Obama focused on three economic issues during his conversations with President Bush this afternoon. The top topics: a stimulus package in the lame duck session, aid to the auto industry, and help for homeowners with adjustible-rate mortgages in order to prevent more foreclosures.

According to the source, Obama told Bush that action is needed on a stimulus package now - in a lame duck session - and cannot wait until after the inauguration.

Obama also urged help for automakers and encouraged the acceleration of the disbursement of $25 billion dollars for the industry.

On his third focus - housing - Obama voiced his concern that homeowners whose mortgage rates are about to go up will need aid to prevent more Americans from defaulting on home loans.

The source would not that Michelle Obama had private visits to one or more Washington DC schools today, saying "we want to keep that completely private."

To the copycat: Keep trying, you'll never get it right.
She's back and you'll never get a post in edgewise.
You'll see what I mean. Gotta move on.

Chow.
You can always tell who the libs are. The first to post and the first to post the most worthless posts on the board. Bless their little hearts.
Obama: The top topics: a stimulus package in the lame duck session, aid to the auto industry, and help for homeowners with adjustible-rate mortgages in order to prevent more foreclosures.

Stimulus package - What, the trillion we threw at it a month ago wasn't enough?

Aid to the auto industy - aka - quick pay off for Obama's supporters in Michigan.

Help for homeowners with adjustible-rate mortgages in order to prevent more foreclosures. - Message: If you're too dumb to read the terms of your mortage, don't worry, Barack will be there to bail you out by taxing people that knew how to read the terms of their mortgages.
Waiting for some news on the Obama/Bush meeting. Guess I'll have to turn to Fox News.
Ready on day one

OBAMA!
Obama's kids, just like Chelsea C. did, will be going to an exclusive private school. To face the facts, public schools are just not as good, well at least for the Obama's. They're just fine for everyone else, and no you will not be given a choice.
Full Moon - you've won my heart. Positively.

Thanks for your conservative point of view. It awakens those in a deep sleep.
What, no Sarah Palin news?
What makes this meeting historic ? Isn't the turnover of power between two Presidents always historic particularly two Presidents so different in political outlook. Or is what you mean by "historic" that one is black, the other white and if that is your meaning doesn't that run counter to Obama's statement for months now that this race...was not about race.
A house can not be built on sand! That is what Bush/ Cheney/Rove have done. We need to build bridges, schools, houses.

It is the morally right thing to do; it’s also a far more effective form of economic stimulus than cutting the capital gains tax. Providing aid to beleaguered state and local governments, so that they can sustain essential public services, is important for those who depend on those services; it’s also a way to avoid job losses and limit the depth of the economy’s slump.

Our forebears, whether immigrated or came in shackles to the US have built America, we want our country which we built on solid foundations back.

America won’t be hurting, once we get the ball rolling on health-care and these fronts.
We did it. This land is ours we made it; never give.  We’re doing it from a good foundation.

Thank you President-elect Obama and wise voter
Oh I wish it were Januray 20th already!!
Before you start writing checks to the auto industry.....

Get THEM to commit to manufacturing IN AMERICA
Get them to commit to HIGHER FUEL EFFICIENCY
Get them to commit to lowering CEO pay
Get them to commit to INVESTING in their own research and development

Then, we can talk
There would be much more knock power in your vanilla title of "Obama meets Bush" if you titled it "Dracula meets Polly Anna"
President Bush, meanwhile, kept trying to get Obama to go pet the White House dog, Barney.
It's good to see that President-elect Obama is holding firm on these issues. This stimulus package is much needed. China just today announced a 538 billion dollar stimulus package for their citizens:

Instead of just bailing out the banks, we need to bailout our people!
OBAMA WIN WE LOVE HIM FOR THE COUNTRY
PRESIDENT ELECT OBAMA AMERICAN WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR RESCUING US FROM BUSH AND THE REP PARTY. YOU ARE THE MAN OF THE HOUR.GOD BLESS YOU AND FAMILY
Hm, doesn't the "we" in the last sentence reveal the leaker as someone in the Obama camp and someone acting with permission. I'd say either talk about what you said to Bush or keep it private but don't leak it and pretend people won't know it was you. Post-partisan politics indeed.
Come on, George Bush: do something useful with your final days other than drawing up the long, long list of pardons for your fellow criminals.

Try to leave on a high note. I know it's hard for you, George, to put the interests of the American people above your cronies. But, just try.
Energy Independence needs to be included in the realm of our economic issues. Our dependence on foreign oil impacts every aspect of our society and economy. This past year is a testimony to that fact. Jeff Wilson has a great new book out called The Manhattan Project of 2009 Energy Independence NOW. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is worried about our economy and interested in seeing our country  energy independent. www.themanhattanprojectof2009.com

Check out this OPEC report on financialtimes.com very informative...

Skip all this, and lets get to the Obama holiday, I could use the day off!
Obama has always tied GWB to John McCain-More of the same..and he always tripped GWB on his failed policies in all his debates and public appearances.
How would that be possible for Barry to go meet with GWB with a straight face after all the insults being thrown at Mr.President ?!
Obama to Bush: "You were handed a nation at history's peak for any nation, in any place at any time. Record surplus, at peace, with massive prosperity and prestige, and were warned 4 or times about terrorism, only to under react to it before 9/11 and over react to it by invading the wrong country after 9/11 cost us trillions to boot.

You katrina'd your own country.

Heck of job Bushie.

Now scadadle before you blow something else up."
There are just 10 short weeks between Veterans Day (today) and Inauguration Day. It's good to see that the transition is moving along in a deliberate and co-operative manner.
The will of the American People is being enacted, and this meeting personifies our collective will in accordance with the best of traditions of our great Nation.
To Prochice.

Let Michelle Obama pick any school she wants, private or public. Why do you have to critisize that. They are the first family and there are a whole lot of issues different from a normal family. So picking a school isnt exactly a point of criticism.

Help to the auto makers isnt a bad idea as it will reduce unemployment. Its not a payback for votes. If Bush had done the same thing there wouldnt be any criticism from Republican supporters.

Guys just dont argue for the case of arguing.
Why should we bail out the auto industry when Americans can't even afford car payments.
Jordan - the "we" as I read it, was obviously from the Obama camp, and it was apparently in reference to the statement about where the Obamas are looking to have their children attend.  Frankly, i have no problem keeping quiet on that out of safety to the children - both the obama's and those at the school they will be attending.  Plenty of nutjobs out there that would target innocents like that.
