Biden: DE, 'You own my heart'

From NBC's Lauren Appelbaum
In a 13-minute address at a Veterans Day memorial service, Biden told Delaware residents even though he may be leaving his Senate seat, they will always own his heart.

"I want to tell you straight up with the national press here that the title that means the most to me other than father is being the senator from the state of Delaware," Biden said at the War Memorial Plaza in New Castle, Del. "Nothing, nothing. And I mean it sincerely. If you haven't figured it out yet, you own my heart. And there is no title, including Vice President of the United States that will ever be as honorific to me as being the senator from the state of Delaware for so many years, and I thank you for that, that honor, genuinely an honor."

Biden reflected on the national and state transitions, calling their ease a testament to veterans' service.

"It's amazing in this democracy how smoothly the transitions go," Biden said. "It is really, literally, amazing that I can tell you in my discussions with President Bush and Vice President Cheney, it is a remarkable testament to what you all fought for, that there is absolutely, absolutely, totally complete unadulterated cooperation and movement as if it's seamless. And it's a real testament to this country."

Unlike other wars, Biden stressed, many of the enlisted and National Guard members are serving multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Never have we had a war before where we sent people back into harm's way where they are shot at, cleaning blood out of their humvees, once, twice, three, four, five times," Biden said. "That has never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever happened in American history."

Biden became solemn toward the end of his address, promising on behalf of President-elect Obama and himself to protect the troops, which includes his son Beau, while oversees and back home. "The only sacred, sacred obligation this nation has is to care for those we send to war and prepare them and equip them with the best available in the world and care for them when they come home."

It will literally be a blast to have Joe Biden as our Vice President.  He cracks me up!  Looking forward to SNL episodes.  Hope he is a guest soon.
and soon to be Vice President Biden has my heart, I am so thankful we have elected the best this country has to offer. With President Elect Obama and VP Biden
I at last have confidence that the people come first.
The working class and the working poor. I believe they will be honest and aboveboard and transparent.
So a Big Thank You to the citizens of this great nation for bring us the best.

I live in De and used to live in Cali. I have always held a high opinion of Joe Biden.  So Glad Obama and Joe won the election. Funny thing is, it's true I was in Mexico on election night and they were just as happy as us Democrats.
That's why I love me some Vice President elect Joe Biden. He such a humble public servant and complete compliment to President elect Obama. Yea, he talks a lot but it’s his compassionate heart that speaks more.

I like to thank my brother who fought in Viet Nam and came back in one piece. I like to thank my son who fought in Kuwait and came back in one piece. I like to thank my last son who currently is in serving and will come back in one piece (a mother’s prayer).
To all Republican ventriloquist dummies

How’s about a shout out to the guy you demonized, Rev Wright? He is a veteran who served. He also helped save Dick Cheney’s life. How many years did Cheney serve? The answer is Cheney served none?

Don't do it Obama. Hold on until January CAFTA is not compromise; it's extortion.
Columbians don't have unions, hence, no fair wages, no healthcare, and no collective bargaining. That would shrink the pie.
Plus, they kill people in Columbia.

Man poor Sarah Palin, somebody needs to tell Sarah it is better to remain quiet and be thought a fool than to open her mouth and remove all doubt. She just keeps getting better and better. I see why the McCain camp called her a wack job.

We as Americans have a great debt we owe all of our Veterans, regardless of where or when they served. There efforts, there sacrifice ,there losses will not be taken in vain.Today we need to take a moment to say a prayer for our brave service men and woman.Take a moment to remember those that have given there all to defend our freedom.
Absolutely, absolutely - SNL will have a good time poking fun at Biden once, twice, 3 times, four or five times and they'll never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever regret him being elected for them to poke fun at.
Yes I voted some smart alec will have to ask.
don't be a fool Joe Biden. Cheney has plans to make himself the 44th President of the U.S.A.
Life was so much easier when I was a Republican and didn't have to think as much.
I've never lived in Delaware, but Joe Biden has long been among the senators I most admire. I'm THRILLED to have him as our VP. He'll be a great asset to President Obama (that has such a nice ring to it!).
Theey own his heart and ....his hair plugs. Too bad they don't own his foot so he won't put it in his mouth so often
Thank You Delaware for allowing us to "borrow" Joe Biden for the next 4-8 years! Hopefully he will help President Obama bring our nation back from the devastating past 8 years under Bush/Cheney. At last I can be proud of my Vice President, once again, because Cheney should be tried as a war criminal along with Bush. Cheney's been an embarrassment from the start.
Joe Biden is a stateman, in spite of his sometimes loose lips. It will be VERY refreshing for the country and for President Obama to have his honest appraisals.

Joe's comment about the transition is very "spot on". While our system is sluggish at times and hard to control, it is a great testament to our democracy that we are certain that on 1/20 every 8 years we WILL have a new leader with their new administration to inspire and encourage us.

It is also fitting that Vets day comes after the election in November. We must show respect for those who gave their lives and limbs so we can live free!

Let's get busy!
Obama-Biden
I agree with Lani in L.A., I hope Joe the Biden hosts SNL someday. So many people talk about the Palin impersonation on SNL, but Biden's just slays me. "As my mother would say: 'God love'im.' but he's raging maniac!"
Ohh- Ohh!  I know!!
Let's take one from El Rushbo, and pull an operation chaos of our own come the next Repub primary, and go for Ms. Moose-burger!  Wotta laugh riot- she gets the nod, then looses by, say, 49 states! (ok, 50 states- Alaskans might be awake by then....)
Dave in Omaha (Sent Tuesday, November 11, 2008 2:17 PM)

and my personal favorite of this campaign season, "...Joe Biden is BETTER than THAT!"  spoofing the debate and the fact that he 'nailed' it.  good stuff.
His comment about the miracle of transitions in this country -- and it is a miracle in the eyes of much of the world -- is spot on.  It's a visible example of what makes this country exceptional.  (And to Bush's credit, I believe that on a personal level, he and his wife are nice and gracious people and that their cooperation is genuine.)  ----  Another moment that always stands out to me was the funeral of our ally, King Hussein of Jordan.  Representing America and lined up, standing together, in front of his casket were then-president Clinton and former presidents Ford, Carter, and Bush 41 (former Pres. Regan was already too ill to attend).  Carter had defeated Ford, the 'boss' of Bush 41 had defeated Carter, Clinton had defeated Bush 41 ... and there they were, traveling together and standing together in total peace and with mutual respect and quite apparent friendship (esp Ford and Carter).  I kept looking at the scene and wondering how incomprehensible it must be to those from so many other countries .. probably the same countries that cannot comprehend our electing a black man named Barack Hussein Obama.  Sometimes I am so very proud to be an American - and this is very much one of those times.
I think President Elect Obama hit it in the ball field a homerun for choosing V-President Elect Biden.  I love Joe very much and his beautiful wife Jill.  Now, let me tell you, if Barack want to get on my bad side, Let him not do right by joe biden, and this coming from a black girl in Atlanta Georgia
Go Joe, we americans have your back.
How can you not see this being re-enacted (hopefully) this Saturday on SNL!  I have not stopped laughing yet!  I can't stop.  I can only see this skit of Joe Biden on SNL and I'm cracking up!  Yes - OBAMA/BIDEN ALL THE WAY.  But this makes for priceless comedy!
Ok people (Clara and Dave) - please stop.  I am hurting.  I mean seriously - I have not teared up from laughing in ages.  I have to stop typing and get up and take a break before I split my side!  The references to SNL Are side-splitting!  OH NO. Thanks very much for the afternoon laughs!  Literally, ROFL!  I feel like I just watched the episode.  It gets funnier and funnier each time I replay it over in my head!
I was glad when President-Elect Obama picked Vice President-Elect Biden as his running mate. I really like him and today's comment reinforces this feeling. He is one of the most down to earth politician there is. Like the saying, "what you see is what you get". He really keeps it real.
Joe says it like it is, and is honest about his feelings. He has a son serving in Iraq right now, so this day is very special for him. Biden is a loyal American, who has no problem expressing his thoughts. Remember Joe. Honesty is always the best policy, and that is something you have Cheney beat with already. Go Joe!!
I was ready to vote for Joe in the CT primary - but he pulled out of the race before we had a chance to cast a primary vote for him.  I'm SO GLAD he & Barack have teamed up - what a winning combo, and I'm glad I had a chance to cast my vote for them both !!!!!  If you haven't yet read Obama's "Audacity of Hope", you should.  Within 3 chapters, his philosophy of politics underscore how his campaign style and refusal to throw mud is a part of his character and make-up, and his belief in the good motives of politicians on both sides of the aisle.  It was written well over two years ago, and will give you great insight as to how this administration will be steered, and will convince you that he can bring both sides to the table and find common ground. These are qualities he shares with beautiful Joe Biden.  FREE AT LAST!
