A tale of two Palins

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
MIAMI -- Palin called for reaching out to the new Obama Administration, but at the same time criticized Democrats in a speech that was, at times, hotly partisan here at the Republican Governors Association conference.

In this speech, which followed her earlier press conference, she hit Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, saying their names like they are bad words and referred to the "Democrat" (instead of "Democratic") Congress -- a time-honored Republican tweak. "Maybe they forgot why they were sent to Washington," Palin said of Democrats.

But for a speech that was supposed to be largely focused on the future of the Republican Party, Palin showed no signs early in her speech -- and for much of it -- of moving past the 2008 campaign.

Despite saying she had moved on, she delivered some of the campaign's greatest hits. She lauded Joe the Plumber and Tito the Builder again. There also was talk of campaign signs and enthusiasm with crowds praise for what she called "prayer warriors" for their good wishes on the trail. But unlike Gov. Tim Pawlenty's call for a more diverse party yesterday or Bobby Jindal saying Republicans were fired with just cause, Palin didn't offer a concrete pathway or even a vision for a party searching for its soul and a way forward after its defeats last week.

She did call on Republican governors to show leadership, by focusing on governing, and indicated she is in the traditionalist camp of how to move on, saying, "If we are to lead again in Washington … let us reclaim our good name" when it comes to spending restraint, personal responsibility and other traditional conservative principles.

In her opening remarks, Palin joked about her experiences since she was last at the RGA. She said she had a baby, "very briefly expanded my wardrobe" and met Tina Fey. She also thanked God for George W. Bush. "Thank you, Mr. President," Palin said of the president whose woeful approval rating, many objective observers as well as Republicans here lay much of the blame for the party's losses.

She said she enjoyed her campaign experience. And said she wishes Obama well. "If he governs with the skill and grace of which he is capable, we are going to be just fine," she said. She added that Republicans needed to "reach out to this new Administration" so "he understands our perspective."

"Let's help show him and Congress the way," she said.

She spoke against the bailout, saying people were standing in line with their hands out and that we are addicted to OPM (she pronounced it as one would say opium) -- Other People's Money.

Despite her calls for reaching out to the Obama Administration, she delivered some partisan applause lines, like that governors don't vote yea or nay or present, which got laughs from this Republican crowd.

"We are the minority party, but let us not become the negative party," Palin said. She said Republicans shouldn't lose their way. Americans will look to governors, she said.

Let the "pundits" talk about 2012," she said. "Our focus should be" on our states and "how we serve."

There she goes again talking out of both sides of her mouth.  If the republicans honestly think she is the face of the party, they are going to keep losing elections.

Also, why was she thanking God for GWB?  Makes absolutely no sense seeing as how he was instrumental in their demise.

If Sarah Palin is all the GOP has in 2012, then I submit that the GOP is officially dead for years and years to come.  If they had any brains whatsoever, ANY brains whatsoever, they'd find a way to shut her up permanently.

Did they not learn from the election?
Please dear Lord, make her stop. She is more bi-polar than Hillary was during the primary. It is like being sea sick, having to listen to her partisanship one minute and her unity speech the next. Somebody get the hook and pull her off the stage.
did anyone let her know that their ticket lost?
just goes to show, she is still out of touch with not only the majority of americans but the mainstream of america. she has only a list of right wing talking points and nothing further substantial or analytical to say. the gop would be wise to listen to the voices of jindal and pawlenty; but then perhaps the gop has become a victim of their own anti-intellectualism they have used on others to manipulate to advance their own power.
She's just there for the 'celebrity' of it all. She has nothing to offer this party.
I wonder who wrote that speech.  It seems as though she believes that America is in love with her for some reason.  I guess the fact that most and I do mean most people thinks that she is not qualified to be vice president much less president, has not really affected her thinking.  I think it is time for the msm to leave her alone and let her go back to doing what she does best. What that is, I am not sure yet.  When Stevens loses his senate seat, I am sure it will be a while before we hear from her again. Unless he mysteriously wins.
Now in all fairness this is a woman that does not have a clue about sentence structure; do we really expect her to know which term is proper? Democrat or Democratic?
She needs to do her own research on Obama and understand Chicago politics rather than continue to spout partisan rhetoric given to her by the campaign.

She speaks on only the talking points she's been fed by the McCain campaign and doesn't appear to really know what she is talking about.

This woman need to go back to her state and govern; showing proof that she really can run a state.

She just got started as a governor and before you knew it, she was running for a national position with very little knowledge about the country she wanted to lead.

Sarah Palin, take Katie Couric advice and go learn stuff and keep your head down and your mouth shut.
Please do me a favor. Stop reporting every word this woman is saying and send her back to Alaska. I looked forward to Nov. 4, not only to see Obama win, but also because I thought I would never have to see Palin again. Sarah Palin please go away. I am praying, "God, please open the door back to Alaska for Palin. You know she'll go through it, and once she does...please close it."
Sarah will be just a memory by 2012...
PLEASE...MOVE ON!! You ( the news outlets ) are forcing her down our throats. I work in a hospital of 2100 employees and their is no interest in her...IT'S YOU!!
Another Anna Nicole, a bunch of b.s. by the news media.
First Read -->Palin called for reaching out to the new Obama Administration, <<

No she didn't, and anyone with a half a brain would know that if they listened to her speech. What is it with NBC reporting on made up stuff about Palin?
PLEASE MAKE THIS IDIOT WOMAN GO AWAY.  SHE IS SO IGNORANT THAT SHE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT SHE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW!!!  OH, AND WILL SOMEONE PLEASE REMIND HER THE ELECTION IS OVER AND SHE IS NOT MCCAIN'S RED MEAT THROWING, PITBULL ANYMORE.  THANK YOU.  AND NO ONE (INCLUDING THE REP. GOVERNORS) GIVE A CRAP WHAT SHE THINKS.  SHE IS A STAR IN HER OWN MIND ONLY.
Sarah Palin is old news. Good riddance.
She's admitting being addicted to opium? That explains a lot. She thanked God for George Bush? Didn't she blame him for hers and McCain's failed presidential bid just earlier this week?
Will she never go away
I am a Democrat, I voted for Barack Obama, and I hate women.
WHY OH WHY Cant she SHUT UP ALREADY

Do any of the Republicans know her approval rating?  She is beyond help.  I will be glad when this election is over. OH RIGHT IT IS OVER  SOMEONE PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TELL SARAH PALIN THIS.
She is interesting, though. I think people just stare at her, sort of like they would a train wreck.

Or maybe they are looking for some glimmer of intelligent life, just for the comfort of knowing one of our two major political parties didn't really run a complete idiot for the vice presidency.

Plus, she is physically attractive. I read someone else's earlier post about how if she was ugly she'd be out of the news long ago. Sad commentary on us, but I suspect that's true.
THE G.O.P. IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THAT IS WRONG IN AMERICA, I CAN ONLY HOPE THAT PALIN the MORON CONTINUES TO DIVIDE THE VOTERS INTO REAL & UNREAL AMERICANS, AND HER SUPPORTERS MOVE TO ALASKA AND AWAIT THE "RAPTURE"
Joe the Plumber again? Really?
"We are the minority party, but let us not become the negative party,"

BECOME?

Go away Sarah, your 15 minutes was up a week ago.

How offended by her ignorance to you think the other governors are?
Sarah " Plain  and ignorant" you lost in NC and VA. You lost to a great degree because of your partisian rhetoric.  The return of GOP leadership is not going to be on calling Democratic leadership "Democrat"  or quoting your "Joe the Exagerator" comments. It will take a widening of support beyond your base.  I doubt you have the VISION or leadership skills to pull it off but if reading from a teleprompter is a requirement you will excel.
All the other blogs are talking about how easy it is to dupe nbc into reporting false stories. Why isn't it a topic here?
All I can say is WOW!

She is even more frightening than I could have imagined!

Thank you America for not voting this "whack job" into the Vice Presidency
No surprise that the Wicked Witch would keep praising Joe the Welfare Queen and Tito the Illegal Alien.  Wasn't that funny how we learned after the election that Jerky Joe collected welfare twice, yeah he's just another socialist wimp sucking at the teat of government handouts.

Jindal is just another creepy evangelical christian lunatic fringer with darker skin.  Under the different skin color is the same degenerate slimeball we've come to expect from the party of whining losers.

When will the repugnant ones get a clue and make sure they shut up the Gift to us Democrats who keeps on Gabbing?  The sooner they muzzle Clueless Girl the sooner they might have a chance of showing some kind of intelligence and change.
OK...she has had enough press time, it is time to ignore her and encourage her to return to Alaska.  No, I am not a liberal nor a democrat! Just point her in a northwest direction. She can even take "Joe the lier" and Tito with her.
THE PROBLEM WITH GOV. PALIN IS SHE TALKS TO MUCH. SHE ACTS LIKE SHE IS THE FRONT RUNNER FOR THE REPUBLICANS. SHE ISNT ANYONE SPECIAL AND NOT THE FRONT RUNNER PERIOD.

IT DOESNT MATTER WHO THE REPUBLICANS PUT UP ITS TOO EARLY TO BE TALKIN ABOUT 2012 RIGHT NOW.

MSNBC is for bottom feeders....
She's an 'empty straw', a conservative 'cheerleader' & a political 'HACK'. The GOP could do  SOOOOOOOooooooo much better!
The GOP needs to dump Palin publicly if they have any chance of recovering before 2012. She is just plain awful.
The Harding Insitute has a real website - I saw it myself!
Gosh, does she ever shutup? She is full if divisiveness what a great trait for a 'chrisitan.'
Run Sara Run! I see visions of a Democratic version of '84. The economy recovering, Obama running a morning in America style of campaign and the R's running a backward looking divisive candidate at the top of the ticket. So run Princess Moose=Slayer Run!
I think her speech shows yet again, that she is not ready for the national political stage.  Governors Pawlenty and Jindal are offering real vision and perspective to the future of their party, but Governor Palin is just rehasing tired lines from a failed Presidential campaign.  She has no foresight as to the future of the party or hindsight when it comes to how the GOP got to this point.  Praising President Bush is a good indicator of that.  Not to mention the fact, that earlier in the week, she blamed the President for the GOP loss on Tuesday.  Which is it?  Are we praising President Bush or blaming him???  I think she just says whatever she thinks is politically expedient at the moment.  There is clearly no planning there.
I just wonder why we had to listen to her. Why did the other Gov's not get to be on the Tee Vee machine with their speeches?? This is crazy. I am so sick of her and her mouth.
Let her keep talking.  The people didn't buy it on November 4, who's to say they will in 2012?  Wait, I take that back, some people did get poisoned in 2000 and 2004.  But, if she's all the GOP has to offer, then we can count on Obama having 2 terms in office.
I am so tired of Palin talking with Forked Tongue.  I will no longer log on for First Read or watch MSNBC with the exception of Olbermann and Rachel.

I may be forced to watch the Disney Channel to escape all the Palin crap.

When the media stops fawning over her or chasing after her like she is a dog in heat maybe she will fade away to the Alaskan Tundra.

Thank you to everyone who made First Read a Must Read prior to the Election.  I guess it is time for me to move on
Sarah Palin is an opportunist. She is interviewing like a wild horse let out of the gate! She is really a piece of work.

I hope she runs in 2012. It will be easier for us than I thought.  She needs to spend more time reading and looking at a map, and less time yapping with the MSM that she hates so much!!
I heard from a Palin insider that she is really an insect alien queen with plans of world domination and that her minions of kkk racist followers have all been implanted with her eggs.
MSNBC retracts false Palin story;

AP NEW YORK – MSNBC was the victim of a hoax when it reported that an adviser to John McCain had identified himself as the source of an embarrassing story about former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, the network said Wednesday.

David Shuster, an anchor for the cable news network, said on air Monday that Martin Eisenstadt, a McCain policy adviser, had come forth and identified himself as the source of a Fox News Channel story saying Palin had mistakenly believed Africa was a country instead of a continent.

Eisenstadt identifies himself as a senior fellow at the Harding Institute for Freedom and Democracy. --- Yet neither he nor the institute exist; each is part of a hoax dreamed up by a filmmaker named Eitan Gorlin and his partner, Dan Mirvish, the New York Times reported Wednesday.

"The story was not properly vetted and should not have made air," said Jeremy Gaines, network spokesman.

Wow!!!

I'm shocked, shocked, shocked that Caribou Barbi is talking out of both sides of her mouth.

maverick reform there also too maveric reform there also too
WHO LET THE DOG OUT! WHO WHO WHO WHO WHO!
PLEASE. STFU. GO BACK TO YOUR KITCHEN IN ALASKA AND THOSE YUMMY LOOKING MOOSE DOGS! YIKES!
I HOPE MATT LAUER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THAT WONDERFUL FEAST!
SORE LOOSER!
FACE IT SARAH. YOU LOST.
AND AS MUCH AS IT MUST HURT YOU, YOU NEED TO START SHOWING RESPECT FOR OUR PRESIDENT-ELECT, YOU MORON!
In all the chatter about her chatter since the election I haven't seen anyone bring up the concerns of encouraging -- and not even trying to quell -- the violence at her events. Does anyone actualy seriously think that all that hatred just went away with Mr McCain's polite concession speech?

"Our prospective"?  You mean the secessionists? Or people found guilty of ethics violations, or just plain haters?
She still thinks she is campaigning.  It's amazing.  I don't think she has anything else to offer except the talking points of the campaign.  In her CNN interview, she says wants to work with Obama....but let me just mention (one more time)that I'm uncomfortable with his associations....Ayers.   OMG.  She is trying to revamp her image, but she is just cementing her image as someone who doesn't know what they are saying....and she doesn't say it very well.
Where on MSNBC is coverage of the revelation that the whole, "McCain staff confides governor didn't Africa was a continent" story turns out to be a hoax created by two Hollywood producers? Is there an ethics responsibility for MSNBC to correct the record, or do we need to go to Fox News to get the real story?
"referred to the "Democrat" (instead of "Democratic") Congress - a time-honored Republican tweak"
---------------
Don't you mean a time-honored tweak of the Republic Party?

As for Palin, she is an embarrassing travesty.  What's important about her are 1) what it says about the people, including McCain, who chose to elevate her and other decisions they may make in the future and 2) what it says about the hunger or thoughtlessness or whatever of the peopl who crowded her rallies and actually voted for the Rep. ticket **because** she was on it!  That is truly terrifying.  That she doesn't 'get it' that she's making a bad mockery of herself is simply further confirmation that she truly doesn't  understand.  But those who support and endorse her?  Either they are cynical beyond belief or as unconnected to reality as Palin herself.  I hope she keeps talking - and talking - and talking.  Maybe something she says will finally act as a snap of the fingers and wake up those who think there is something there.  Aside from attractiveness, glibness, spunk, and looking-out-for-number-one, there simply isn't anything there.  Of course, she isn't moving past the 2008 campaign: she has nothing else to say that would be of any relevance or interest to anyone in the lower 48.
Bloggers,
Many of us are sick of the media's obsession with Palin. They continue to shove this poor excuse for a politican down our throats.
I suggest we all ignore their way too many headlines, articles and refuse to comment. Perhaps if they see we are fed up with their reporting, refusing to focus on what is important, they might ease off.
Probably not as they have refused to have quality reporting for the last two years, but isn't it worth a try??
