A tale of two Palins

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
MIAMI -- Palin called for reaching out to the new Obama Administration, but at the same time criticized Democrats in a speech that was, at times, hotly partisan here at the Republican Governors Association conference.

In this speech, which followed her earlier press conference, she hit Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, saying their names like they are bad words and referred to the "Democrat" (instead of "Democratic") Congress -- a time-honored Republican tweak. "Maybe they forgot why they were sent to Washington," Palin said of Democrats.

But for a speech that was supposed to be largely focused on the future of the Republican Party, Palin showed no signs early in her speech -- and for much of it -- of moving past the 2008 campaign.

Despite saying she had moved on, she delivered some of the campaign's greatest hits. She lauded Joe the Plumber and Tito the Builder again. There also was talk of campaign signs and enthusiasm with crowds praise for what she called "prayer warriors" for their good wishes on the trail. But unlike Gov. Tim Pawlenty's call for a more diverse party yesterday or Bobby Jindal saying Republicans were fired with just cause, Palin didn't offer a concrete pathway or even a vision for a party searching for its soul and a way forward after its defeats last week.

She did call on Republican governors to show leadership, by focusing on governing, and indicated she is in the traditionalist camp of how to move on, saying, "If we are to lead again in Washington … let us reclaim our good name" when it comes to spending restraint, personal responsibility and other traditional conservative principles.

In her opening remarks, Palin joked about her experiences since she was last at the RGA. She said she had a baby, "very briefly expanded my wardrobe" and met Tina Fey. She also thanked God for George W. Bush. "Thank you, Mr. President," Palin said of the president whose woeful approval rating, many objective observers as well as Republicans here lay much of the blame for the party's losses.

She said she enjoyed her campaign experience. And said she wishes Obama well. "If he governs with the skill and grace of which he is capable, we are going to be just fine," she said. She added that Republicans needed to "reach out to this new Administration" so "he understands our perspective."

"Let's help show him and Congress the way," she said.

She spoke against the bailout, saying people were standing in line with their hands out and that we are addicted to OPM (she pronounced it as one would say opium) -- Other People's Money.

Despite her calls for reaching out to the Obama Administration, she delivered some partisan applause lines, like that governors don't vote yea or nay or present, which got laughs from this Republican crowd.

"We are the minority party, but let us not become the negative party," Palin said. She said Republicans shouldn't lose their way. Americans will look to governors, she said.

Let the "pundits" talk about 2012," she said. "Our focus should be" on our states and "how we serve."

"Prayer warriors?" Ugh. Her complete lack of respect for or understanding of the CRUCIAL separation of church and state in this country is frightening. Here's hoping she never gets even one inch closer to power on a national scale.
She is so full of s***, I wish she would just go away once & for all.

This is exactly what is wrong with the GOP---it is their way or no way.  This is what has caused the divisiveness that exhists today in this country.  Instead of being attacked by terrorists, the GOP has helped their cause by destroying us from within with hatred and fear.

Would the press please stop covering this woman?  She is still running for the 2008 election even though the election is over.  If she didn't get any more coverage, then she might just go home to Alaska and do the job she was supposed to have been elected to do.  Or does the state of Alaska run itself? I thought she said she had real executive experience running a state and yet she appears to never be running the state--always off somewhere giving interviews now.  She claimed she did real management as opposed to a community organizer and yet she appears to never be managing the state she was elected to "manage".  Also wonder why her kids are never in school.  Maybe their never having to attend classes might just perpetuate another generation of individuals who lack intellectual curiousity and think they can hookwink the lower 48 like their mother appears to have done with Alaska.  It is not the kids I am attacking here but rather their mother who is responsible to see that they get an education and not just a shallow one at that.  Then they might just attend the same college all four years and get a degree and perhaps have enough desire to go back and persue advanced degrees and take more classes through the years to be learned about a variety of topics other than moose burgers which may be very good as a regional delight. Yet they might, with more education, want to try even some foreign cusine in another country and actually step across the Bering Sea to visit their neighbors and other countries getting a pass port earlier in life than their mother did.  If she insists in staying in the limelight, why not send her off on a world tour to broaden her sense of cultural awareness and geography?  But then she still wouldn't be "home doin the work she was elected to do for the great state of Alaska".  Maybe she should pray about that as the door she wants to bust through.  I am!
Sorry Sarah !!
No Senate seat for you !!

'... Stevens Trails Begich In Alaska Senate Race

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Just as Sen. Ted Stevens appeared set to return to Congress, felony conviction and all, his re-election bid has faltered. If he loses, it also closes a possible door into the Senate anytime soon for Gov. Sarah Palin.

As counting of early and absentee ballots continued in Stevens' race against Democrat Mark Begich, the contest for Alaska's only House seat was settled Wednesday, with the re-election of Republican incumbent Don Young for his 19th term.

In the Stevens race, Begich jumped to an 814-vote lead, after trailing by 3,200 when the day began. The tally late Wednesday was 132,196 to 131,382, with an estimated 30,000 ballots remaining to be counted, some on Friday and some next week.

"After watching the votes today, I remain cautiously optimistic," Begich, a two-term Anchorage mayor, said in a news release. "We ran an aggressive campaign, especially when it came to early voting and absentee."...'

This would be HUGE !!

Anybody know about Begich?
Is he progressive? Centrist? Populist?
Honest? Effective?

Waiting on you, Al Frankin & Jim Martin
Will the Obama machine help out Jim Martin ?
COME ON !!

Since she no longer has the McCain speech writers telling her what to say, she had to revert to the campaign stump speech.
please, please, please, let this ignorant crazy woman be the future of the GOP party. on behalf of democrats everywhere, i beg of you.
The only thing I have against Palin, is that she really isn't qualified to be any where near the oval office. I can't figure out why people believe she is, and why they think she is the future of the GOP, it's crazy to me, even her fellow GOPers have a hard time saying so.

If it's all about supporting a women trying to get ahead, I'm for that, but lets support one that has the qualifications to get where she wants to be. No female she be looking at Palin as a representative for other woman (with regards to politics), she is really a bad choice, and there are many other choice out there.

Hillary stood her ground, and was a good choice to represent the women of to day, just as Obama was a good choice to represent the Afro Americans of today.

I really wish the media would stop hyping her up, and if Obama does a good job for the American people, I hope Sarah Palin is the GOP's choice for the future, it would mean an easy win for Obama.

People wake up, no one treated Sarah Palin unfairly, she just wasn't ready for the job. Really she couldn't even give an 8yr old child the right description of the job the American people were interviewing her for, and even that 8yr old child probably knew that saying he or she could see Russia from Alaska was not an answer to foreign policy experience.

Glad the majority of the American people knew this and made the best selection, glad even true RED GOPers knew this and flipped their votes for the upset victory of Obama.

Man, anyone else and McCain had a chance, still tough, but there was a chance.

Don
Don't you just love the Sarah Palin " I'm not stupid tour". She is not qualified to be dog catcher.
Ms. Palin needs to return to Alaska to take care of budgetary items that were based on OIL at $140. per barrel.  The projected Alaska Budget will be in DEFICIT because of a SHORTFALL of Revenues from OIL as OIL is now below $60. a barrel.

Time to get back to work, Sarah.
Ok, I just watched the video.  Palin rambled almost aimlessly for 15 minutes, repeating most of her campaign catch-phrases and talking about how much fun she had being in the limelight.  15 minutes of "ME ME ME".

Okay, what does she have to say about being a Governor and helping state constituents?  More catchphrases like "work hard to unite" and "be non-partisan" and "help the people".  Hello....???  Any concrete suggestions?

Oh, yes, she says to implement Health Care Reform by being more transparent.  Is this why Palin's health records were released just hours before Election Day?  Is this her definition of transparency?

Is she ready to listen to the parts of the country that she thinks are "less American" than the others?
So that's where the McCain supporters learned their bitterness from - Sarah Palin! Now it makes sense!
If "bubbles" Palin is the future of the GOP, well then cue the crickets because this party is over (pun intended).
If the speech sounded anything like all her previous verbal ramblings, I'm surprised anyone could make any sense of it at all. Also. I'll wait for the transcript!
Shut up.

Go home.

Raise your family.

Shoot your moose.

Serve your constituents.

Don't come back to the lower 48, ever!
As a proud, liberal, life-long Democrat, what has always bothered me about the stupid republican "Democrat" party is that it is ignorant and ungrammatical.  And, when some professional journalist, showing their partisanship uses that construction, I think they should be fired.  Reagan started that here in California as a way to insult us, saying that not completing the word correctly (addint the -ic) meant that we really weren't democratic.  For God's sake, get over it!  Go back to school and take a basic English class.

This woman is like a character from a daytime soap opera.  You know the one who has the split-personality where one personality is in the present, and the other one is living in the past.  Except in this case the personalities switch themselves at will, even within the same speech.

Clearly someone should tell her that the election is over, her team lost, and the rhetoric that she's spouting here is why it lost.  If she is what the Republicans feel is the "future" of the party, then they are truly lost.

68 Days Until Inauguration Day!

I almost feel sorry for the other Republican Governors having to stand behind that ridiculous woman. They need to show some backbone & send her back to Alaska fast.  John McCain should be ashamed of himself for putting such an unqualified person in the VP slot. No wonder he lost my a landslide.
By the way, I am sick to death of continuous media coverage of SP.  She is history.
Everybody write your Govenor and tell them to make her stop!!!!!
Sarah Palin = before, during, after = CLUELESS! Send her to the timeout corner. It's not all about Sarah Palin.
OMG, Did she really bring up Joe the Plumber again?  Governor Palin is a Republican train wreck that keeps barreling down the track sideways.

This woman has no vision. She sounds like a parrot, constantly repeating herself. She likes to fill the air with her nonsense, to make it seem like she has said something. In fact, there is no substance to anything she says. Pleases stop her! I  can not take anymore.
If Palin is the answer to the GOP's future, the question must be about being out of touch, and unaware that americans spoke up against what she stands for.  Get a clue Palin, shut up and learn something.  I was not going to respond to anything about her, but it is so hard, since she is so stupid and talks out both sides of her face.  She is the past, not the future.  Give it up, its Dead.  Unless you govern from the center, you will not make it.  We need HOPE, not HATE.
The Obama administration would be helped as much if they asked the audience at an Oprah show or The View as they would anything the Wasilla Hillbilly could come up with.

If the GOP forgets where the real brains in their party are they are going to keep losing.  If not maybe they could recruit Hanna Montana to get the youth vote.
YOu tell 'em $arah - no more OPM.

But TPM (taxpayer money for your kid's travel, and sleeping in your own house) and RPM (Republican party money for your wardrobe) - well that's different.
wow....John McCain's legacy from the '08 elections is the Energizer Bunny of ignorance....it keeps going and going and going....
I hope she runs in 2012. That would give Barack an easy win at another four years. American aren't going to take her seriously. She'll lose easily.
As long as Republicans are searching for new ways to divide people and demonize those who disagree... they'll never regain power.  They don't realize that Rove politics don't work anymore... the people are paying attention and they want solutions.
Factory of empty rhetoric, that is how I describe this incredibly boring, stupid, ignorant, inept woman. She cares nothing about the interests of the GOP and the nation's problems; just pure rhetoric bullshit as if practicing her 'pitbull on lipstick' reputation. I am sooo glad the election is over, and I really don't care anything about this wicked woman.
Dear Gov. Palin,
Dan Quayle called. He'd like you to join him in oblivion.
Press: please just stop talking about Palin because as soon as you do, then all the liberal bloggers will have to find something else to talk about. Then, maybe then there will be some peace and quiet since now that their man won and the congress is stacked, what will they have to piss and moan about?
Sarah Palin, still off her meds.  Republicans, please keep her in the news for the next four years; that will ensure a nice long period of time for the Democrats in the majority.
This woman needs to be locked in a room and forced to listen to all the confusing, contradictory and just plain unintelligible things that she says. I know the Conservatives consider her to be the future of the GOP, but if I were a member of the GOP I'd keep looking. Holy Cow!
His past makes him long past being a viable candidate for anything nationally. He's just what we don't need, an extreme left wing viewpoint with virtually no knowledge base on any subject, and personal views that doubt science in favor of faith. As if his lies, and garbled speech weren't enough to drive the avergae American to tears, now he's going to try and drag his fame to 2012? Obama will have a lower approval rating than Bush by then.

My plea to the MSM please stop giving this woman so much coverage.  She is an idiot.  I have to think 2 or 3 times about every sentence that comes out of her mouth and then I'm still wondering what she said.

The election is over let her go back to Alaska.
All I hear from her is quack, quack, quack.
"...[T]he president who's woeful approval rating" is incorrect. It should be whose.
Doesn't Gov. Palin have anyone in her office/camp to shape her message? She needs a serious communications director who will help to make her not look so unintelligent. At the very least, she needs someone she trusts (and hopefully pays) to tell her to stay off the microphone. She's hurting herself and the GOP and now, she seems to make anyone who "praises her" lose credibility too. I'm not a Republican, but I would think that someone in the RNC would care enough to intervene.
Be assured folks Sarah Palin is working her extended fifteen minutes of fame. I do not understand what all the buzz is about, but apparently she is fascinating to the media. I saw yesterday the reporters where swarming around her and she is loving it. Palin believes she is the future of the Republican Party. I hope the party knows if she is what they are offering in the years to come, they will most certainly continue to lose. America saw the real Sarah Palin in all her interviews. She did what she could in those interviews with what she knew. Palin needs to get out of the spot light and educate herself about government and world affairs. I would appreciate her being able to have a conversation that is understandable and coherent. Palin likes the spot light, but governing the United States of America four years or even eight years from now is an entirely different animal. I don't  think she will be ready to do that in eight years, much less four. Palin is a great example of anti-intellectualism. The GOP would be smart to get her off the news and distance themselves. Palin is confirming over and over again what Americans thought on Election day, the GOP is for only certain people, not all people.
I watched her speak and thought that it didn't go over so great.  There were lines which she obviously thought would be applause lines, but which were met with silence.  The reception was very different from what she received from the rallies.
Palin is off her rocker!  She is extreme right-wing and very partisanship minded in her speeches.  Do she not read the polls on her negatives?  She is good at separating people and not bringing them together.  I feel like Palin wants all states in the United States to be separate.  She needs to be taken off the stage and sent back to Alaska where she is appreciated by the people.
Will the Sarah Palin Dog and Pony Show ever end?  She has yet to be asked one hard, investigative question in any of these recent soft-ball interviews by Lauer, Blitzer, Greta V., etc.  She continues her rant about Ayers, but what would be her response to questions about her association with, and endorsement of the Alaska Independent Party. What is silent Todd's involvement?  She rants about other people's money but has no problem charging the State per diem while staying at home, finds every excuse in the world to fly her family around to multiple events at taxpayer expense, rants about socialism and then gives unquestioning Greta V. a 5 minute treatise about how wonderful it is that every Alaskan gets a yearly handout (spreading the wealth?) from the Alaska government compliments of the oil industry which she proudly "progresses".  Sarah Palin is nothing more than a poorly informed and minimally educated cheerleader for herself.  The Republican Party can do much better.  If she represents the Party,  it's going to be a cold day in Prudhoe Bay before they regain the White House and the Congress.
I just wish she would jump on the back of her hubby's snowsled and the two of them ride off into the sunset never to be seen again.
She is just scary and for all her trying to act nice she is also ruthless and viscious without a second thought. Not a humanitarian for sure.
You really want to be scared 46% see her as a national leader.  Don't dismiss how many people will be trying to make her the presidential candidate in 2012.  The fact that the republicans are not shifting to the middle is both worrysome and re-assuring.

Worrysome because that means that there are that many people easily duped.  Re-assuring because if she runs we can win again.  Promote thinking vote against Palin should be a new bumper sticker.
Katie C. in Pekin: Yes, let's boycott Palin. Let's refuse to post on any more sites discussing her. Starting now. And please spread the word to your friends and to other sites.

First Read, do us all a favor and post this message, then - in your own best interests - stop writing about her.
geez, those governors who were seen surrounding her should start thinking from a higher location on their body
Where on MSNBC is coverage of the revelation that the whole, "McCain staff confides governor didn't Africa was a continent" story turns out to be a hoax created by two Hollywood producers? Is there an ethics responsibility for MSNBC to correct the record, or do we need to go to Fox News to get the real story?
My Answer:
It isn't that the story was or wasn't made up... It is that in the process of listening to Gov Palin struggle with answers to basic questions there is that question in your mind... does she know...anything? On so many levels she is unqualified to lead a country in crisis. I wonder how she will lead a state in crisis. We have all seen people that reach a position of leadership that don't belong there... for various reasons. I have read comments that Gov.Palin can't be stupid or she wouldn't be where she is. She is possibly somewhat street smart, depending on the street she has to role down. She is definitely an opportunist, saw a door and bashed right through. Now that's she's there we shall see what happens. I just know that she is in no way prepared for the door she tried to go through... and you give way to much credit to any News media for driving opinion. Those of us who are intelligent seekers of information watch numerous network news programs, listen to numerous pundits, read numerous papers and magazines, and listen to all of the speeches made by anyone who thinks they want to have a say in our government then we make up our own minds... and if you hate MSNBC stop watching. It's called a remote. It allows you to turn off the TV or change the channel. I even watch Fox at times, though I admit I turn the sound down at times... and just watch. I would rather do that and read sub-titles than listen to the yelling.
