Pawlenty on Palin speech: 'Interesting'

MIAMI -- Gov. Tim Pawlenty chose his words carefully when talking about Palin's speech here at the Republican Governors Association conference.

"She was mostly sharing her reflections from the trail," he told NBC News in a corner of this sleek Miami hotel. "It was interesting. It was mostly a summation."

But asked whether it fit the billing of the panel she spoke before, about looking toward the party's future, Pawlenty said, "Was that the title of the speech? Well, she referred to energy."

Much has been made of a potential rift in the party, between reformists (with Pawlenty at the head) and traditionalists (with Palin at the front of that group). Pawlenty gave a speech laying out his vision yesterday for where the party should go -- that it should be more inclusive, more diverse and expand its ability to compete in the Northeast, the Midwest and the West. He urged Republicans not to give in to either side, but called for a merging of both a modernization and an adherence to conservative values.

Tonight, he said he doesn't think there is a divide in the party.

"The press is creating a divide," he said. "It's not a choice between conservative and contemporary."

He added, though, there would be a "new crop" that would emerge in the Republican Party. He said to watch, in particular, Meg Whitman potentially running for governor of California in 2010.

NOTES: On what he'd like to see out of a potential RNC chair, Pawlenty said the person should be able to rebuild the party from a technological standpoint, in how money is raised and who can bring in new voices, like from businesses and non-profits. He stopped short, however, of saying that person shouldn't be current chairman Mike Duncan, who appears ready to make a push for re-election. Pawlenty stayed out of that fray, saying he didn't know of all the contenders.

The first thing to do is to re-name the Republican Party. Some likely names would be: The American Bigot Party, The New Nazi Party, The Ignorant Red-neck
Party or The Torture and Terror Party.
It is painfully obvious even to the GOP/RNC that "Puppet Palin" is a political liability. They just can not come out, and say it though. It would divide their joke of a so-called political party even more. The ignorant philosophy of culture, economics, foreign policy, and political ethics of "Puppet Palin" is too far out of reality. There was nothing interesting at all about "Dizzy Diva's" dippy speech. That is fact!
If it came from Palin it was obviously great.
She's the best. No doubt about it.
If these republicans can't even open their mouths to speak out against Palin, the thorn in their behinds, how do they hope to ever succeed in getting their party back on track??  If I were a republican, which thankfully, I'm not, I would appreciate the leaders of my party calling a rotten apple, a stinking rotten apple.  If the republicans can't handle one of their own, how can they ever be trusted to handle America??
There needs to be some "straight talk" regarding this conventiona and Sarah Palin. I acknowedge this unexpliaanble focus on her but for goodness sake let's tell it like it is. Her speech was horrible . It had no substance, no new ideas . The woman is not intelligent in any respect.

I will always be a Democrat. What I wish, however, is that the Rep. party can identify the intelligence and ideas os someone like Bobby Jendal, Pawlenty, etc. Those are the real contenders for 2012. PLEASE, i BEG YOU, STOP TALKING ABOUT SARAH PALIN. CONCENTRATE ON THIS HISTORIC INCOMING PRESIDENT.
Oh there's a divide, Tom. Too bad you guys won't figure out that it's between the independents (who used to call themselves Republicans) and the friends of Sarah Palin. Cling to your guns. Cling to your fundimentalism. Fear science. Avoid all critical thought. Continue to covet intolerance. Demonize everyone who isn't as completely removed from reality as you. AND, watch the demographics shift away from your party even further.
Pawlenty doesn't see a divide in the party?  Well, there is. Just put the Romney supporters and the Huckabee supporters in the same room and see what happens!  Romney 2012
Like he said interesting I saw part of it where talks about Joe the so called plumber.

I like Pawlenty.  And I'm a democratic.  I feel if he is the new voice for repubs they might just be able to open their minds somewhat and realize America is a very diverse country and needs to be inclusive not exclusive!  I feel Silly Sarah needs to go back up where she came from, take care of her family and govern as she was elected to.
Pawlenty is a nice guy but we don't want an RNC leader from the State of Political Looney Tunes!
Hey, Pawlenty,

If you're out walking around when you get back to Minnesota, and you hear a helicopter hovering above:
