Congress: The verdict on Joe

By a 42-13 vote Sen. Joe Lieberman was allowed to keep his Homeland Security Committee chairmanship. "Independent Bernie Sanders and Democrat Pat Leahy, Vermont's two senators, spoke against allowing Lieberman to keep the Homeland Security and Government Affairs post, the Associated Press reported. And two members of Connecticut's Democratic state central committee said they'll still ask it Dec. 17 to consider censuring Lieberman and asking him to resign from the party, the AP said." (The photo, by the way, is classic Lieberman.)

Democrats have welcomed McCain ally Joe Lieberman back into the fold, but some of his Senate colleagues say that he won't be on a long leash

"Two members of Connecticut's Democratic state central committee, Audrey Blondin and Myrna Watanabe, said they'll still ask Connecticut's top Democrats to consider a resolution repudiating Lieberman for publicly backing McCain," AP reports. "It also would ask him to resign from the party. 'Ultimately, there were no consequences to his actions,' Blondin said. A meeting of state Democrats is scheduled for Dec. 17."

After getting off the Senate trolley, McCain received a generic "Welcome back." But "then, a more familiar greeting came from another senator who had been riding in back. 'John, wait up,' called out Senator John F. Kerry, clapping a big hand on McCain's shoulder. The pair conferred quietly as they rode up an escalator toward lunch with their colleagues. Two failed presidential nominees, minus Secret Service detail or much suspense about their futures, back to the Senate -- same as it ever was. Explicitly or not, Kerry's backslap marked McCain's induction into an unofficial bipartisan caucus of would-be commanders in chief who fell short of the big prize and landed, humbled somewhat, back where they started." Interesting note: "[A]t least 17 colleagues now serving know what it's like to take steps toward White House bids, only to be turned back."

More than one influential House Democrat is nervous about the contentious battle for the chairmanship of the Energy and Commerce Committee, with the challenge of Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) by Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) representing -- for some -- a possible dismantling of the body's time-honored seniority system.

Who says Congress is stodgy? "Elected two weeks ago to represent Utah's third congressional district, [newly elected Rep. Jason] Chaffetz intends to serve how he lives and how he campaigned: frugally. So rather than renting an apartment in Washington, he'll join the ranks of members who sleep in their offices at night and shower each morning in the House gym. He will take his suits to the House dry cleaner and will bundle together his ‘socks and undies’ to take home every weekend to be washed."

Move over, Texas. In the new Congress, Obama's home state of Hawaii is poised to install two of its favored sons on the Hill in influential positions in the legislature.

I think Lieberman being there will be a problem for Obama.  I don't trust the guy.  He's to "maybe I'm a democrat, maybe not", for me.  Oh yeah, what about that apology to Pres elect Obama?  I would think he would
try to do some a** kissing.  We shall see.
Jesus let Judas back in too. Look where that got him.
While it would have been more personally satisfying to see "Traitor" Joe get the axe from the Democrats it's better to keep him close.  Now "Traitor" Joe owes Obama a big favor for saving his behind.  I hope Obama read him the riot act about being loyal.

This shows the big difference between Democrats and the repugnant ones as the repugnant ones would have drummed him out of their caucus because they can't see beyond their petty partisan hate.

I'm glad that Leiberman at least acknowledged that it was Obama who saved his a55.  Still, it'll be up to the CT voters to decide his ultimate punishment and vote him out.

As they say its politics, I still have a let down feeling knowing that little troll is getting off scott free. The ammount of disrespect was outrageous.
I Know he was given a pass by PE Obama, but somehow it still makes me sick. I think he will show his true
colors again. maybe then they will kick him to the curb

Lieberman's a great guy but needs to get rid of that Democrat label and become Independent, or better still, Republican.
Lieberman would make a great president. He's his own man and doesn't cowtow to the loony left.
Yawn........... The Dems have a vote in the senate, Obama has a chit or two from Joe and the final decision will be in 2012 when the voters of Connecticut vote Joe out because he is out of control from his campaign promises of 2006... It will all work out, Ned Lamont 2012!
Let Joe go...agreement on everything is boring..
Keep him around to kick every once an a while..
Politics is fun from the driver's seat...
I really don't have a problem with Lieberman supporting John McCain during the election, I am always for being bipartisan.  My problem with him is that he agreed that he would not bash Barack Obama during the election and he did.  He used all of the same old tired partisan republican talking points in his speech at the RNC.  He turned right around and stabbed Obama and all the other democrats in the back.  Now they are going to let him keep his posistion, he is obviously not trustworthy any more and anyone that thinks that he can be trusted is seriously underestmating him.  If you are going to be bipartisan then be bipartisan don't just say that you are because you belong to one group but advocating for the other.....

MSNBC has never posted any of my comments, lets see if this one gets on.
Senator Lieberman made a political play supporting McCain in the presidential election, probably believing that McCain would win.  Now that the election is all played out, he has some regrets as to statements he made against Obama during the election.  The only reason he is still in is because to Obama.  I would trust him as far as I could throw him.  He is disloyal and needs to put on the back burner or at least placed on a time-out!
This is one of the many instances where Obama will  show that he is not your typical politician. Imagine if Lieberman had been a Republican who had campaigned in the manner he did for a Dem Presidential nominee. The Republicans (and a Republican Presidential nominee) would have burned him at the stake. Limbaugh and Hannity would have called him a traitor and called for his head. But Obama gives Lieberman a break and welcomes him back into the fold. Obama is unique. Watch for more of these special and unquie decisions by Obama that reflect a very strong personal character. And to  imagine that McCain, Palin, Lieberman and the Republicans tried to attack Obama's character during the campaign. I suppose they did so because of their own lack of personal character which hid from them exactly what they were taking on. An immovable force. It is ironic and sad how the Amercian people were able to recognize Obama's positive charcter attributes while many of our so-called representatives and leaders failed to recognize it. Are we electing the right folks when they can't even judge character.
Dennis Leary had the best comment last night on Hardball. Chris Matthews asked who was going to be head "pooper scooper" for 1st pup and Leary says Joe Lieberman....I like to died laughing. That to me summed up my thoughts exactly.
But also Evan Byah also said on Rachel's show that Joe would be watched and if he screws up again, he would be off the board...this vote yesterday was a formality and a shot across the bow so to speak. That if he doesn't toe the line they will pull his chairmanship in a heartbeat and he now knows this.
