'Rahm-bo,' the conciliator?

From NBC’s Cherelle Kantey
Rahm Emanuel, the chief of staff to President-elect Obama, tipped his hat to Sen. John McCain yesterday, saying the Obama administration plans to work in a bipartisan fashion to address the challenges of the new presidency.

At a discussion for the Wall Street Journal’s CEOs in Washington, D.C., event he spoke about the meeting the president-elect held with McCain and Sen. Lindsey Graham, saying the nation will enter an “era of reform.”

“We didn't just do not have the meeting with Sen. McCain and Sen. [Graham], … just for optics, we covered very serious issues,” Emanuel said.

He spoke about having a diplomatic approach to solving the economic crisis, while also ducking questions about Obama’s cabinet selection. When asked about the suggestion of Sen. Hillary Clinton being chosen for Secretary of State, he responded, “Great question.”

He refused to answer an audience member about who Obama might choose for Treasury Secretary, saying, “I can't do these, guys; you know that.”

“I am not here to make news,” Emanuel said jokingly. “If you want to have a bathroom break, go ahead and do it right now.”

Emanuel mentioned the need for Congress to pass an “immediate economic stimulus,” saying that reaching an agreement is key. He emphasized the opportunity for leadership provided by the economic climate, opening the door for more bipartisan talks.

“And this crisis provides the opportunity, for us, as I would say, the opportunity to do things that you could not do before,” Emanuel said. “The good news … is the problems are big enough that they lend themselves ideas from both parties for the solution.”

Never straying off-message, Emanuel stuck to the talking points about government reform and working with the Republicans in Congress to reach an agreement on how to fix the economy. He discussed embracing Sen. McCain’s ideas on cutting spending and Graham’s suggestions on defense procurement.

“That's what we mean by the era of reform,” Emanuel said. “This is an opportunity to do things in a bipartisan fashion, because the American people in two successive elections have voted for change. And change can not die on the doorsteps of Washington.”

Working with McCain doesn't make you bipartisan. McCain is just a centrist Democrat wrapped in RINO clothing.
Emanuel - “We didn't just do not have the meeting with Sen. McCain" -

What language is this? Has anyone been able to translate it to English?
Meanwhile, the House GOP promotes Eric Cantor, their latest star partisan weasel, to Number 2 (how appropriate) in the minority leadership.
Any Senator or House member of mine that teams up with these liberal loons will find themselves looking for a job after the next election.
Stuff like this must make the republicans heads explode. All they know is attack, bad-mouth, attack some more, backstab. The idea of working together results in smoke coming out of their ears.
We should all thank our lucky stars that Obama won the election.  I speak for *all* Republicans when I say he has earned my respect.
Emanuel is a very smart politician, and will work fairly with the GOP/RNC. They pull any "two-faced" political games, well then 'Rahm-bo' will politically rumble with them very quickly. The GOP needs to comprehend very quickly that "Darth Rove" politics will not work anymore in Washington. "Insane McCain" better be wearing his "depends" if that occurs. Oh yes! That was Senator Kerry's joke! Right? God that was funny!
What is reality, We know that congress is derailed and non functional. 84% of the people are outraged by the function of Congress. We know people voice is no longer part of our American process. Yes the President has changed, now there remains one more CHANGE! CONGRESS IS ENDOWED WITH PLENTY OF NON FUNCTIONAL IDIOTS!!! These people have built their own little power domains! We the people want these little Gods removed!

Question:  The major reason being, these idiots keep being reelected and its because of the lobbyist and pork barrel, where is common sense?
The biggest obstacle to bipartisan work is "Who gets the credit."  Usually the party in power takes the credit.  It will be facinating how Obama will spread the credit so the republicans will participate in the process.  First steps have already been taken... Meeting with McCain, perhaps keeping Gates, finding a spot for Hagel.  Keep an eye on the big picture: Obama's strategy.  That's where the action is.
We should all thank our lucky stars that Obama won the election.  I speak for *all* Republicans when I say he has earned my respect.

No, fact, you don't speak for all Republicans, you speak for yourself.
"Insane McCain" better be wearing his "depends" if that occurs. Oh yes! That was Senator Kerry's joke! Right? God that was funny!

Kerry welcomed McCain back to the senate yesterday. McCain should have hoisted one right between Kerry's legs. That would have been funny.
To all you Republicans who are already bashing Obama and his team:  YOU LOST THE ELECTION - GET USED TO IT!  Obama is the next president and he will do whatever he wants.
Obama is playing chess as a master.  We have become accustomed to having a president play Hide-and-Seek like a petulant child.  This is "Change I can Believe In."
>>>“I am not here to make news,” Emanuel said jokingly. “If you want to have a bathroom break, go ahead and do it right now.”

I like this one.  Disciplined, on point, on message, and focused.  This is how you deal with the media so that they don't make you look like an idiot (take a lesson, BUSH).

BTW, I just love how the rabid right-wing McCain sore losers constantly post their paranoid doom and gloom rantings and predictions here.  Before the election they all complained that their posts never get published.  Now lately I see more of their postings than I do positive ones.  And OMG they are amusing too.  I never thought there could be so much comically blind ignorance in this country.  I get a laugh every time I read them.  They really break up my day.  I swear, if I ever ran for political office and had any of these chowderheads as supporters, I'd quit out of shame.
