The political payoffs continue. This certainly is a new direction for Washington DC, and I for one am enjoying all the Change.

Only two more years and the people will speak. There is more doubt and concern right now than before Obama was elected. Two more years until America wakes up and sees what has happened. Only Obama and the House and Senate can make it go in any different direction. And they do not appear to be heading that way.

And what does Mabus know about Education, Energy, or Foreign Relations? Just as I thought, nothing.

I have never seen this much obsession over a president elect in all my...well never! My gosh, the man can't get a break from you guys, not that he cares what you think, but get a grip!!!!

People hacking his email, complaints from the MSM and now his cell phone records breached? I guess the worst is yet to come and I don't udnerstan why he would even want the job after all of this. Kinda feel bad for the guy!

So a former governor knows more about these positions Obama has open then say, Sarah Palin? Mabus was an awful governor, he brought Mississippi from the Dark Ages back to the Stone Age. He was worthless at education in the state, ranked dead last when he left the governors mansion. Now he's a corporate lobbyist. He'll fit in perfect with Obama.

As we head into another anniversary of the death of JFK tomorrow (45 years), it’s amazing to look back to his election and transition period.  On election day, he voted in Boston behind our State House on Cambridge Street, then headed down to the Cape. He stayed up until 3:00/4:00 AM waiting for the results to come in, then went to bed not knowing if he in fact had won. When it was announced that he had won, he and his family held a press conference at an Armory down the Cape. An Armory! Jackie walked on the beach all by herself. His mother went to church.

Remember reading about when he selected his brother RFK as his attorney general? He announced it on the front steps of his home in Georgetown in front of a handful of reporters. His father told him not to look too happy about it when he announced it, and if at all possible, his father advised JFK to just open his front door in the middle of the night and whisper “It’s Bobby”.  lol!!!!

He will again be on our minds tomorrow.

Since was Gov. Ray Mabus one of the earliest supporters of Obama, his appointment can make a red state turn blue.

I know that Inez Tanunbaum is on Obamas list for Sec of Education and I hope she will get serious consideration.This is a lady that had she been allowed to S.C. would be much better today. She is a progressive and very very smart. She never had a chance in this state where you are either a republican or you are nobody. Of course all thats going to change one day soon. I do trust Obama to make the right choices

Mabus would be a fine addition to the Obama administration. He's a former ambassador to Saudi Arabia and was listed as one of the top education governors in the nation during his time in Mississippi. He's a Rhodes Scholar and a very good man. He deserves the right to hold an important office. He would be great for our nation.

Word of caution to some of my favorite bloggers (Clara KC, Eric CA, Pat NY, full moon, and I'm missing quite a few).
Over the last week, I've noticed a blogger posting several comments using several different names.  And in the last day or two, I've read posts reportedly from Pat, Clara, and Eric (which is why I mentioned you three specifically) that were not actual posts from any of them.  
Someone is making comments and attaching other people's names to them.  They also may be using various email addresses in order to get all their comments posted.
Clara, Pat, and Eric, I always welcome your comments.  To the fool who is masquerading as others, you need to stop.  We can see past your petty postings and look forward to a REAL discussion with you instead of fabricated "talking points".  Only a coward would do what you have done.

Well, I don't know about Energy, but if you'd care to check Mabus' resume, you'll find that he was US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 1994-1996 and during that time the Saudis abandoned a boycott of businesses that trade with Israel.  You'll also find that during his tenure as Governor of Mississippi he oversaw the "B.E.S.T." education reform package which included the largest pay raise at the time for teachers in the nation and was named on Fortune Magazine's list of Top 10 Education Governors.

My goodness - can't you people let it rest?  I mean, the man is not yet President.  All the current failures and problems rest solely on the shoulders of President Bush - he does not relinquish any power or authority until 20 Jan.  Then, and only then can we start holding President Obama to task. Until then, let's hold the man responsible for the horrible condition this country is in responsible.

Jimmy Carter left a situation far worse economically than what Obama will inherit so it should be a breeze with his experience and knowledge for him to fix everything on his plate in a fairly short time. I am afraid with all the Clinton Administration coming back on board he may be taking us down a bad road for the future. It's not too late to change course President Elect Obama and deliver what you promised, Change We Need.

It's funny that people are up in arms about Barack's so-called cabinet selections. It is important to remember that he has NOT announced one cabinet nominee.

WE continue to let our current president, George W. Bush, off the hook. I DO NOT care if he has low approval ratings. Mr. Bush is STILL the president and he needs to be held accountable.

Unbelievable!  Folks NEED to be consistent with their praise and criticism. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing it.

"An informed Democratic Source"  sounds to me like Maybus is just trying to lobby for a job.  I have no idea who this guy is or if he is qualified for these positions named, but I can bet that floating your name around so it will be leaked is not going to influence Obama to choose you.  Under consideration for a job, doesn't mean chosen.  And if it isn't a leak from someone on the transition, then I'll believe it when I see it.

What about Virginia Governor Tim Kaine? I believe that he was the first to endorse and he was considered for veep. Where does he fit into the new administration? He is a brilliant man.

For some of you - HE IS NOT THE PRESIDENT YET - YOU CAN ONLY HAVE ONE AT A TIME. Man I have never seen so many naysayers. You have no right to complain right now except to complain about Bush.

After 1/20/09 - well give him a day 1/21/09 -then you can complain about Obama's performance.

What I find amusing, although not really. Is that the Dow gained about 1000 points as McCain closed the gap in the weeks before the election. Since Obama's election the market is down almost 2000 points as the realities of an Obama Presidency take hold. More regulations. Higher taxes on those that make the economy move.

I firmly believe the market reacted to the reality that Obama might really win, and that is why the market tanked late-Sept/early-Oct.

The media, when there is little to report try to find whatever crumbs that might have been scattered for them. I believe it was Mark Twain who, in his newspaper days, said "If there isn't any news, make something up". In today's terms that means make non-stories into headlines. You gotta sell those ads and get readers. Regular day to day events won't do it. You have to have sensation one after another or the, dare I say it, competition, might get one or two more readers than you have. It is a dog eat dog world in the news biz and what I am seeing regarding Obama's appointments is a prime example of it.

Let the man announce the real selections when he wants to. Report them as they are officially announced and stop trying to (scoop) be the first to blab the latest. It won't get you a pulitzer prize so be cool and report stuff as it happens not gossip from someone (in the know).

Eric C.  Not sure where you are coming from (right, left, whatever) but there are some who feel very comfortable with and encouraged by Obama's selections so far.  These include a number who are very liberals (including myself) and - apparently - some conservatives as well.  See David Brooks column in todays NYTimes.  I am seriously impressed and reassured by the thought and strength that has gone into his selections so far, for some of the same reasons Brooks mentions.

I believe that we must give Obama time to show what he is really made of. I think we, as Americans, should support him. Did I vote for him..no..but he has to be successful or our country will take one hell of a dive...WE DO NOT NEED THAT. Most of his picks are ok, but I wonder about Holder after his waltz with so many un-deserved pardon approvals.

To all of the naysayers here (liberal and conservative) who are so dismayed that Obama is selecting a lot of former Clinton appointees for his cabinet, and claming "this isn't the CHANGE we voted for", let me ask you. EXACTLY WHAT "CHANGE" WERE YOU VOTING FOR?

I swear some of you people (and I'm talking to you so-called supporters now) are like the Hebrews in "The Ten Commandments".  They were all willing to follow Moses into the desert when they thought things would be better, but at the least bit of adversity they decided to build themselves a golden calf.  You say you voted for change.  Well let me tell you what is changing.  It's the attitude that you can only work with certain people, and only if they belong to your party.  It's the partisan, ideological (and racial) attitude that has kept this country divided for the past 8 years.  For the first time in a long time many of us are looking forward to the next administration instead of dreading it.  If you can't see that, then you're not looking.  Get past your short-sightedness.  Obama is not Jesus Christ (or even Moses).  Not all of his appointments or policies are going to be to your liking, and they don't have to.  He's the one who's going to have to work with these people, and if he thinks they're adequate, then we should simply have a little faith that he knows what he's doing.  Remember, he's accountable to us and we can vote him out in 4 years if he doesn't deliver.  I believe he will, otherwise I would not have voted for him.  Try thinking long and hard about exactly WHY you voted for him, then try to put some faith into your decision.

OK, gang... a little oversight here on this thread.  We're doing plenty o' president bashing, but keep in mind, *Congress* is the law makers and the current Congress has an historical low approval rating (has for over two years); lower than our current sitting president, mind you, and we just added a bunch more poison to that mix.

Mabus is a great choice for anywhere in the Obama administration. This guy is big on raising teacher pay and reforming education. He would be good on foreign issues too. The Saudis love this man. Obama is SO well connected already.

To the commenter above who tried to make a comparison between Ray Mabus and Sarah Palin simply on the basis of their both having been governors, I must say that you expose a total lack of understanding of what experience means.  It wasn't her having been a governor that made people think she wasn't ready, it was her obvious lack of knowledge about issues of national and international importance.  While she had never left the country, Mabus has been an AMBASSADOR to Saudi Arabia and has served on a number of boards related to middle eastern affairs.  He is intelligent, has a broad range of experiences, and would be a great addition to the cabinet.
