More Republicans praise Obama picks

From NBC's Ken Strickland
During his news conference today, President-elect Obama said there has been bipartisan support for his newly named economic team.

Here's what a couple of key Senate Republicans have said.

As the ranking Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, Sen. Judd Gregg called the nomination of Peter Orszag to OMB Director "another positive choice by President-elect Obama as he unveils his new economic team this week." In a written statement issued this afternoon, Gregg went on to call Orszag "an excellent choice."

Gregg said the earlier selection of Tim Geithner and Larry Summers "assures that we will continue to see a clear commitment by the federal government and the new administration to do whatever is needed to ensure the solvency and orderly functioning of the credit markets and key institutions."

Support from Gregg is significant. Besides his role on the budget committee, Gregg is also a de facto member of Senate's Republican leadership. And he was recently appointed by Republican Leader Mitch McConnell as a member of a congressionally created oversight panel to keep track of federal bailout spending.

The Senate Finance Committee's top Republican, Chuck Grassley, was apprehensive about Obama during the campaign but seems won over by the new administration's economic team.

"The kind of change that the President-elect promised was so undefined it made me nervous," he said in a written statement yesterday. "Now that he's appointing familiar faces from the Clinton administration to very high-level positions I'm less concerned."

Citing Summers' and Orszag's experience in the Clinton Administration, Grassley said, "They saw up close how the tech bubble developed. They also responded constructively to pressure from the Republican-led Congress to restrain spending and put in place pro-growth and pro-family tax relief policies."

Hey GOP!!!!...it's amazing the team that can be put in place when the leader is intelectually on top of things.
While I personally could care less if the GOP'ers approve, I guess it is important to getting things done.

I am not feeling the urge to make Repubs warm and fuzzy with the person a majority of Americans selected to lead us from the darkness of the past eight years.

Why the scare quotes around the word "torture"?
Chuck Grassley’s coming about is tantamount to his apprehension about President-elect Obama during the campaign. Yet, coming about indicates change is permeating the winds.  It is a little questionable to his apprehension. President-elect Obama laid out succinct   plans during the campaign; McCain was the person he should have been nervous about; especially with insular remarks Palin made.

However, I do applaud both Chuck Grassley and Mitch McConnell motivations
Thank you President-elect Obama for bringing change.
So far, it appears that Obama is off to a good start in trying to bridge the divide and work with Republicans. It is crucial that our government focus on fixing the problems and putting aside the partisan bickering and scorched earth policies that have dominated the news for far too long.

Perhaps in the coming months the most negative of the Republicans will also come around when they realize that Obama is going to be good for this country and that the terrorist and socialist rhetoric that was so prevalent during the campaing was just an attempt to scare people away.
See, GOP?  This is how it's done.

1. Let go of partisanship.
2. Pull together the best people.
3. GET SOMETHING DONE!
4. Repeat for next 8 years.

56 Days Until Inauguration Day!

These are some of the same folks that said Obama was not ready to lead. Wrong agin, Repubs.
Any republican who says anything positive about this aweful president-elect should be purged from the party. This country needs real conservatives, not a bunch of weak, compromising rupublicans. We ran a weak compromiser and look where it got us- a socialist headed for the white house. time to learn from our mistakes!
Isn't it amazing that the routine, hateful Republican bloggers on this site haven't weighed in on this? Guess they don't have much to say when someone intelligent is making informed, intelligent decisions. They're not use to it.
Do you think the Republicans are being a little more gracious and cooperative now knowing that if they don't the last few standing will run into angry voters back home when they are up for re-election.   Could this be the reason the tone of their comments have changed? Does this also mean that Obama has brought forth a change in politics where Americans whether voting Democrat, Republican or Independent will expect and demand cooperation from our elected officals to get things done and to meet the challenges we face? I hope so.
Of course the GOP does.  They are watching for BO to screw up.  That's how they are going to make a wave of comeback.
Excuse me!!! Democrats are still full of crap regardless of whom they pick.  GOP will make a come back believe me just as the Democrats had stumbled upon on themselves by selecting Kerry on the last election for President- elect. Everyone one faulters its just ashame Re[publicians had to do it becuase Clinton was to afraid when he was in office.  He had to keep his hands clean from getting himself in the war with Hussein to knowing since 1998 the scandal the democrats were hiding about the Bankers scaming on the money from themselves. Do ur research and educate yourselves on this information....
