Jarrett emphasizes the grassroots

Posted: Friday, December 05, 2008 5:29 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Cherelle Kantey
Valerie Jarrett, who has been selected to be a senior adviser to President-elect Obama, got back to her Chicago roots by reaching out to community organizers at a roundtable event at the Washington Hilton yesterday. “Realizing the Promise,” a forum designed to give the transition team input on solutions from the grassroots level, showed Jarrett in a light similar to the president-elect, rallying the masses with a message of hope.

“Yes we can!” she cheered, stirring up the crowd. The audience, filled with nearly 2,500 community activists from around the nation stood to their feet as she entered the room.

Jarrett’s speech was more of an Obama stump than a policy address on the next administration. She relied on rhetoric about how optimism and unification are the keys to the success of the new administration.

“Our future is bright, and there’s nothing we can't do if we can come together as one,” said Jarrett. “The challenges are daunting ... but [we can] hold hands and follow the vision of President-elect Obama's campaign, which is let's not talk about all the issues that divide us, let's talk about what we have in common.”

Melody Barnes, the soon-to-be director of the White House domestic policy council, echoed Jarrett about the importance of community effort in setting the policy agenda.

"This is about partnership and collaboration,” Barnes said. “While every single person may not be able to come into the White House physically, there are any number of means … [where] we can get the best ideas and put it into policy.”

"We are counting on you to talk to us ... so we can use that information to build solutions that are going to bring opportunity and mobility back to this country," she added.

Jarrett continued the plea for outreach from the ground level, suggesting that town halls and forums are the best way to brainstorm during the transition.

“We can count on you to advise us,” said Jarrett. “You know better than anybody else what your community needs in order to improve your neighborhood.”

She closed  by repeating a familiar line from the campaign season, reminding the audience of the spirit of an Obama rally.

"Are you fired up?” Jarrett cheered. “I want you to stand with us, lead with us, work with us to make this country all that it can be."

What a great idea to keep his grass roots organization alive

I've gotten emails from Moveon.Org talking about supporting Obama's agenda

This is a promising start !!

The darkness is lifting...
The evil is melting away....
Valerie Jarrett of the Habitat Company, which is, you guessed it, yetanother George Soros funded facade.
Wow, the Soros rats are boarding the ship (the Obama administration) at an alarming rate. Melody Barnes, Valerie Jarrett. Best put out the traps.
'...The political fireworks, such as they are this time of year, were set off yesterday when Rep. Barney Frank and others let it be known that they want Barack Obama to play a more assertive role in solving the mess.

"At a time of great crisis with mortgage foreclosures and autos, he says we only have one president at a time," Frank told consumer advocates Thursday. "I'm afraid that overstates the number of presidents we have. He's got to remedy that situation."

Certainly, the remark was meant more as a criticism of the current White House occupant's effectiveness than it was of Obama's cautious approach towards inserting himself into the fray. A veteran of presidential transition's past, however, says that while the urge to call on Obama to step in immediately is compelling, it is also mistaken -- not in the sense that having two cooks in the kitchen would hurt the economic recovery process, but because this crisis, constitutionally, politically and morally, rests in the hands of George W. Bush....'

This is a tricky thing
But, it's not a bad idea
If Obama could give his suggestions to leading Democrats, Dodd, Reid, Pelosi, Frank...
It might give them some direction and ideas to coalesce around

But, it IS TRICKY !!
Bush is still President
He may want things to get Worse for Obama
He may want the economy to tank so the Republicans can get in power

I think the Republicans want to get the UAW
What do working peoples livliehoods matter to them ??

The nation is rudderless

Isn’t it great to what the dream our Founding Fathers and ancestors come to fruition?
This is about partnership and collaboration;   and is  gonna be working  for the people and by the people
You can talk about rhetoric all you want but if Obama keeps sending his people out to speak with average Amercians and community organizers, and he does so as well after taking the oath, what a refreshing change. People want to be heard.
Just more cheerleading and rah-rah from the far left. No plans. No ideas. No common sense. No clue. Just fist-pumping, slogans, hand-waving, and rallies.

Yes you can? Yes you can what?
"Are you fired up?”

That's what Obama says when he's toking with his pals.
I really like Valerie Jarrett and think she's a phenom for times to come as well as now!
This is great to see America! This is what good people do to make a positive difference for change. People should never forget where they came from. The people are the key to our American Democracy, and nothing must ever "twist" that away. The "Politics of Greed" over the last 8 years, supported by the rich over the poor must end. That is fact!
Just more cheerleading and rah-rah from the far left. No plans. No ideas. No common sense. No clue. Just fist-pumping, slogans, hand-waving, and rallies.

Yes you can? Yes you can what?

I see the sour grapes still runs rampant on this blog.

I find it amusing that those most critical of PRESIDENT elect Obama offer no alternatives. He has asked for all sides. Send him your suggestions. I am sure, unlike Bush, he will listen. He may not give you what you want but he WILL listen.

So Lester, what are your suggestions? What would you do differently than what the Obama transition team is doing? Enlighten us. You may actually have a better way but unless you spell it out no one will ever know and you will look like a whiner and nothing more.
