Rice to host HRC tonight

Two of the most powerful women in the world will meet for dinner tonight when Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice hosts Hillary Clinton for dinner at Rice's Watergate apartment, State Department transition sources tell NBC News.

Clinton is also taking part in transition meetings today at the State Department.

*** UPDATE *** Rice and Clinton, once thought to be a dream presidential rivalry, are set to sit down as colleagues to prepare for a smooth handoff of America's foreign policy challenges.

State Department officials say the meeting at Rice's Watergate home will focus on policy issues, management of the State Department bureaucracy and the day-to-day life of the Secretary of State.

Rice set the tone for tonight's dinner, the first face-to-face meeting since Clinton's nomination, yesterday on ABC News.

"I think she's going to be terrific," Rice said.

"Hillary Clinton is somebody of intelligence, and she'll do a great job. She also has what's most important to being Secretary of State, and that is that you love this country and you represent it from a basis of faith in its values," Rice added.

Today, in preparation for her session with Rice, Clinton has been spending the day receiving policy briefings at the State Department.

The policy plate is full: Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Iraq, North Korea and Middle East peace to name a few.

As for the dinner plate tonight, that is an open question. Secretary Rice told Katie Couric in 2006 that she loves to cook, southern style.

"I make a great fried chicken," she said.

No word yet on the menu or whether Rice will cook.

I'd love to be a fly-on-the-wall for that meeting...

Hillary, you should not have accepted the SoS nomination.  We here in NY now feel betrayed!
"Clinton is also taking part in transition meetings today at the State Department." "Taking Part" what a joke. Hillary does not "take part" in anything. She is running the show here. It goes like this folks ( I won't run if.......). Very sad because Obama could so much more FOR us if he didn't have to do so much ABOUT the Clinton's.
So I guess Hillary is going to show Condi how it's done, right?

They have postcards of Barack Obama for sale is various airport CNN Newstands.

I guess you have to have an answer to all the Bushism calendars and it shows that no matter who the president is, supposedly credible businesses are not above the chance to ridicule, and then sell it for a laugh.
FR - I don't think David Gregory was a good choice for "Meet the Press".  He is to bias and most of his questions are "right wing" driven.

We need an open-minded, fresh young thinker and he is not it.

I nominate Chuck Todd, he has the look and the political brains to be an outstanding host for "Meet the Press".

Get it right you guys :)

Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA

Dinner at the Watergate with Condi?  Scarry stuff!

Hillary better take a food taster with her and also make sure the place has been scanned for listening devices!

Talk about "eating crow".  Never trust a Repuke!
Time to send in the "dogs" into this watergate apartment.  We want to know where "tricky dickies" spy cameras and taping equipment is stashed.  "Bush" might of watched Rice, playing her piano, in a pink tu-tu.  Maybe that is where he gets that "smirky smile" from.  It is a national "security thing", of course...........
Excellent, Rice is a great statesmen.
I still think Rice is a lesbian and HRC better tread carefully being alone in that apartment with her.
I totally agree, David for Meet the Press is the wrong choice. Check out the rating for his show " Race for the White House"  very very poor because everyone knows he is a Repub.  You can tell it during the interviews. By the way you've just lost a faithful Meet the Press watcher and helped FOX Sunday.

For all you Rice and Hillary bashers get a life.  Senator Clinton is the perfect choice for Secretary-of-state.  She gets hgh marks from both republicans and democrats for accepting this position.  In 8 years I bet she will have won a Nobel Peace Award and we'll get to tell all you would-be but not succesful pundits - we told you so.  Give up the bashing and say something worth saying on these blogs - you bore me.
