First thoughts: So who's corrupt now?

*** So who’s corrupt now? Since his election last month, Obama and his team have masterfully choreographed every cabinet announcement, press conference, and meeting for maximum effect -- until yesterday, that is. On a day when the agenda was a meeting with Al Gore on energy and climate change, all hell broke lose after Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) was arrested for allegedly offering Obama's Senate seat for some kind of payment in return. It didn't tell us anything new about Blagojevich (he had been straddling the ethical line for some time), or Illinois politics (Blago could become the state's fourth governor in 40 years to go to prison), or even Obama (who is in no way implicated in the government's report). But it does begin to advance a GOP argument that the Democrats -- who campaigned against a Republican "culture of corruption" -- are no longer so innocent themselves. Are the ethical and legal issues that have recently dogged some Democrats (William Jefferson, Tim Mahoney, Charlie Rangel) beginning to approach what we saw in the last few years from Republicans (Larry Craig, Duke Cunningham, Mark Foley, Bob Ney, Don Sherwood, Ted Stevens, etc.)? And while the term “culture of corruption” gets thrown around a lot, the fact is that a state possibly having four governors go to prison in 40 years is most definitely a culture of corruption.

Video: Federal prosecutors say Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich tried to "auction" Barack Obama's U.S. Senate seat in return for high-paying jobs for himself and his wife.  NBC's Lee Cowan reports.

*** The impact on Obama: As for the scandal’s impact on Obama, no doubt that it will be embarrassing for him and his incoming administration, even though the president-elect isn’t implicated here (in fact, the affidavit makes it crystal clear that Obama and his team weren’t willing to play ball). We’re probably going to see a top Obama aide -- Rahm Emanuel, Valerie Jarrett? -- on tape with Blagojevich. And that shouldn’t be too surprising (after all, why wouldn’t you return your governor’s phone calls in this post-election period?) But Obama also didn’t help himself with his initial comment yesterday on the matter. Unlike other Illinois Democrats, he didn’t condemn Blagojevich’s actions, if true. Instead, he said he was “saddened and sobered” by the news, adding that it wasn’t appropriate to comment on the issue. But then he later did comment, saying, "I had no contact with the governor or his office and so we were not, I was not aware of what was happening.” Yet that contradicted an interview last month by Obama adviser David Axelrod, who said that Obama had spoken with Blagojevich about the vacancy. Axelrod issued a statement last night saying that he was “mistaken” in that interview. Team Obama's initial response yesterday to the scandal seemed par for the course: During his two years on the campaign trail, Obama often swung and missed on his initial statement regarding a controversy -- Bitter-gate and Jeremiah Wright come immediately to mind -- before finding a better response 24 to 48 hours later.

Video: TODAY's Meredith Vieira talks to NBC's Chuck Todd about the corruption allegations against Blagojevich, and the possible impact on Obama.

*** Why didn’t Dems do something earlier? Republicans have themselves a talking point they will constantly throw in Obama's face (and Rahm's and Axe's), simply because they are all Chicago pols. This means Obama will always have to look more transparent than usual and, well, less Chicago-y. The one criticism, by the way, that really could stick to the entire Illinois Democratic political establishment: passivity. It was a running joke for years that Blago had a corrupt side, so why didn't more Democrats step up. Sure, politics is politics, and sometimes you have stand by folks who you THINK are corrupt but you can't prove it since no one wants to sound like Joe McCarthy. Still, the passivity here is something that will likely tug at many Illinois Democrats. Could they have done something sooner?

*** Our other questions: Just how long will Blagojevich remain in office? Our understanding is that impeachment proceedings could take three months. What’s more, if the state legislature passes a bill calling for a special election to bypass Blagojevich’s appointment, the governor could possibly hold that up temporarily because he has 60 days to consider whether he’ll veto it or not. Also, what happens if Blagojevich makes an appointment? It’s important to point out that the US Senate doesn’t have to seat that person; the chamber has the power to seat a member. In addition, we understand that Illinois’ secretary of state has to certify the selection, and that person could decide not to certify Blago’s pick. Indeed, there appear to be plenty of ways to prevent Blagojevich’s selection from ever serving in the Senate. But there also appear to be plenty of ways for Blago to hold up this process. Remember, the governor's only bargaining chip is his office right now, and he's likely going to stay in it as long as he can if it means cutting himself a better deal with the feds. After all, if there's one thing we learned about Blago, he's always looking for leverage.

*** Collateral damage: Where to begin? First, there's the case of Charlie Rangel. Could he and his Ways and Means chairmanship become the first real casualty of the Blagojevich scandal? Speaker Nancy Pelosi told NBC’s Meredith Vieira earlier this week that Rangel shouldn’t have to step down as chairman for allegedly preserving a tax loophole that benefited a company whose executive had pledged $1 million to a center named after the New York Democrat. "Mr. Rangel, he loves our country,” Pelosi said. “He loves this Congress. He wants to do nothing but bring credit to it. And he'll be the first one to know what his course of action should be." But does the Blagojevich mess make it more difficult for Democrats to continue to defend Rangel, even if he hasn’t been charged of anything yet? And Rangel’s chairmanship isn’t the only possible collateral damage here. All gubernatorial appointments to fill Senate seats -- including Ruth Ann Minner’s surprising pick of Biden friend Ted Kaufman in Delaware, as well as David Paterson’s upcoming selection of Hillary’s replacement in New York -- are going to receive extra scrutiny. And then there’s the damage to all Chicago politicians. Does this make it more difficult for someone like Bill Daley to run for governor?

*** How long will the honeymoon last? While the Blagojevich scandal is embarrassing to the incoming Obama administration, polls are showing that the president-elect is enjoying quite a honeymoon right now. A new Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll shows that 74% of respondents have positive feelings about Obama’s presidential victory, 79% approve of the way he’s handling his transition, and 59% say they have a good idea of where Obama wants to lead the country. Are these numbers consistent with a new NBC/WSJ poll that comes out today? Tune into NBC Nightly News or log on to MSNBC.com at 6:30 pm ET for the answer.

*** So much for the doom and gloom: The election took place more than a month ago -- and feels longer than that -- but it’s still worth noting that things went pretty smoothly at the polling places. Per a new Pew survey, more than nine in 10 (91%) said it was very easy to find their polling place; more than eight in 10 (83%) said their polling place was very well run; and 75% said they were “very confident” their vote was counted as cast. Two conclusions to draw from this: One, when an election isn't that close, polling problems don't percolate. And two, the rush to vote early helped create a relief valve on our election day voting systems. It's more likely the latter is what helped the situation the most.

It doesn't matter that Obama had nothing to do with Blagojevich's nasty scheming -- the right wingers out there are already foaming at the mouth and will use the scandal as ammo against the Obama administration for the next four (eight?) years.

http://thepajamapundit.com/
Blagojevich is such a freak.  If I were Barack Obama, I would offer an apology right now to the American people for even being associated with this little boy of a man.  What kind of person would shake down a hospital dealing with children's cancer for a campaign contribution?  Is this the "change" Barack Obama is all about?  If Obama does not come out and disown this clown, he is just as guilty as Blagojevich.  In fact, I put Obama in the same class as this moron.

Is this Liberalism at it's best?
left, right or independant if they are crooks get them out of there and in jail.
Guilt by association is a notion that has creeped into our political thinking.  McCain tried to exploit Obama with regard to Resko and Ayres.  First read made it clear that Obama was not involved, but the pundits want to talk about the implications.  Chris Matthews was close to making a "guilt by association" point but fortunately Jill Zuckderman and (?) pushed back and gave many examples to show there is no association between the Governor and Obama.

WIth just a little bit of common sense it would be reasonable to assume that the Illinois Governor and the Illinois Senator would know each other.  But is is clear from the Attorney General's comments that there is no tie between the two. This is a time for the pundits to be careful not to make an association that is not there.  Joe McCarthy tried to make guilt by association, and he was ask, "Senator McCarthy, have you no shame".
Yes, Obama has lots to say, and says it well, when he's reading from a script. Yesterday the corruption he came from in Illinois bit him in the butt. He took one question. One. And he lied. Axelrod said in no uncertain terms back in November that Obama had been working with Blagojevich on filling the Senate position. Now, all of sudden, that conversation never took place? That's an outright lie. For a man (Obama) that has spoken out on corruption of government at the national level, Obama has said nothing about the corruption in his home state. There is a reason for that, he's part of it. He didn't get to where is today without being part of the pay-to-play culture in that state. No one gets to move up politically in Illinois unless the Democratic Machine says so. Obama payed his dues. Now it's up to the media to explain what those dues were. Somehow I don't think the media is up to the task.
Village Idiot-1, Fitzgerald, catches village Idiot-2, Gov. Blago...Big Deal!!!!!

VI-1 couldn't do a thing against the Bush/Cheney leak of Plame, only indict Scooter for lying.  VI-1 made millions of dollars for an investigation that lasted forever and Scooter is free.  So I guess VI-1 got "Payed to Play".

VI-2, not hard to catch him using profanities, and laughing at the wire tapping.  Seems like he was taunting VI-1 to do something.  Got Ya'.

VI-1 should watch more L&O, or real gangster movie prosecutions to see how the stuff goes down!  Wink!!
The Gop are going to start licking their chops over this because that is all they know how to do which is divide and conquest. This simply comes down to POWER CORRUPTS AND ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTLY! Who should know better than the hubris over the last 8 years. Arrogance, narcissistic and meglomanics effects both parties, however, Bushies have held a monopoly with NO ACCOUNTABILITY.
Um, didn't Obama just make sure that an ethics bill get passed in Illinois in the fall, despite Blago's veto?  That doesn't sound too passive to me.  As far as actually getting the police or FBI involved, everyone knew Blago was already under investigation for all of his corrupt actions.
FR: The one criticism, by the way, that really could stick to the entire Illinois Democratic political establishment: passivity. It was a running joke for years that Blago had a corrupt side, so why didn't more Democrats step up.

FR, you are confused. It's not the Democrats in Illinois that are at fault. Democrats and Republicans are just labels that are put on politicians in Illinois. The names have no meaning. There is only one party in Illinois. The Corrupt Party. It would look like (Obama-C) on any screen splash on tv. There is one party rule top to bottom in Illinois. Any party designation next to a politician in Illinois is just there for looks. And getting rid of Blagojevich doesn't even begin to solve the problem. Recall that Blagojevich-C replaced governor Ryan-C, who is in jail (and has Illinois Senator Dick Durbin's-C ear trying to get Ryan-C pardoned). Maybe Durbin-C can add Blago's-C name to the pardon list he's sending to President Bush-R?

So you see, Illinois has a very deep bench when it comes to corrupt politicians. The national media really missed the boat on reporting this fact during the last election.
While Blagojevich's despicable behavior trying to sell Obama's vacated Senate seat is bad it pales in comparison to the many crimes against our country and humanity that the bushwhacker administration has perpetrated.  Too bad the FBI wasn't wiretapping the White House phones to catch the criminals in the White House so they could be properly prosecuted.

Typical that the repugnant ones are trying to smear Obama with this clown's actions.  They had better clean up their own act before throwing stones at Obama.

Fire US Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan!
FR sure seems to be going out of their way to link Obama in any way shape or fashion with the good governor...funny how they gave the witch from wasila a big time pass on her mentor teddy stevens, who is actually a convicted crook...
"But Obama also didn’t help himself with his initial comment yesterday on the matter. Unlike other Illinois Democrats, he didn’t condemn Blagojevich’s actions, if true. Instead, he said he was “saddened and sobered” by the news, adding that it wasn’t appropriate to comment on the issue."
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
So because President Elect Obama didn't make the express the exact same sentiments as other Illinois politicians, that automatically means that he made a mistake? Why is that? Why is sad and sober not enough?
______________________________
"But then he later did comment, saying, "I had no contact with the governor or his office and so we were not, I was not aware of what was happening.” Yet that contradicted an interview last month by Obama adviser David Axelrod, who said that Obama had spoken with Blagojevich about the vacancy."
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Once again, why is this a problem? Although having to correct David Axelrod's misstatement is not a best case scenario in this instance, the tapes clearly show that neither Senator Obama nor anyone on his staff was a part of this criminal horse dealing. So basically, it seems to me that there is no there there.

Senator Obama has his hands full trying to put together a new government and steer our country out of financial ruin.

I hardly think he is devoting a lot of time to the delirious demands of a greedy governor.
I just want to reiterate why I love First Read. ABC's The Note is leading today with a story on how Obama will take the oath of office using his full name, which they suggest is hypocritical considering opponents during the election were criticized for emphasizing. As disgusting as the corruption in Illinois is, I am even more disgusted by how ABC News is slanting the story to try and smear Obama. Headlines on their site infer Obama is "tainted" with corruption, while the quote from the Governor calling Obama a m-f-er for not playing ball isn't even mentioned in some of the commentary. NBC and MSNBC are the only mainstream media sources I trust. It's not the personalities I like, or the liberal commentators like Olberman that bring me back, its the professionalism of First Read. I trust you guys. I think you are doing a good job Chuck Todd and team, and I'm sticking with MTP.
It is a sad day in Illinois politics as ANOTHER Governor is arrested for corrpution. But this has nothing to do with President-Elect Obama. Period. End of story jerry/corpus christi texas. You have been an Obama hater from the beginning, so this is just new red meat for you to chew on. Blagojevich can be compared to Duke Cunningham, Mark Foley, Bob Ney, Don Sherwood, Ted Stevens, or even Larry Craig from your lofty Republican group, but to try an implicate Obama in this is just assinine (as your piost usually are).
Crawl back under your rock jerry and wait for a bigger story; you've got no traction here. Do I think
Blagojevich is guilty? Absolutely. And he should go to jail. But I feel the exact same way about George Bush and Dick Cheney.
You are an idiot Jerry keep carrying the water picher for the Shrub that you have carried for 8 years. You are such a loyal kool-aid drinker! Obama has not even become President yet and you are starting. Lets see! your boy is at an all time low in the poll going back to Nixon. You talk about Liberalism. You make me want to puke!
Blagojevich is such a freak.  .

Is this Liberalism at it's best?
jerry/corpus christi texas (Sent Wednesday, December 10, 2008 9:31 AM)

You are wrong Jerry. A freak is defined as something out the ordinary. In Illinois, Blagojevich is nothing out of the ordinary. There are many, many others just like him. The only difference is that they haven't been caught yet. This isn't about Liberalism. It's about corruption.
it does'nt matter what the repubs use as the talking points of the Ill. Gov. scandal,  Obama won the presidency,  he is pres. & there is nothing they can do about it.
It is sad for our country that yet another corrupt politician has been exposed. Too many let their egos and power outweigh their honor.
Chuck your new format is confusing. Also, your Q & A segment so far is a complete flop. It appears, disappers and have yet to see all questions acknowledged, that is if can even find it.
With Blago this is going to drag on for a while.  This man is always looking for leverage and he will use his office in some way to get this either lessened or some other favor.

As for Obama, the only way this will hurt Obama is if Senate Canidate #5 is a close political ally of him (i.e. Emil Jones, President of the Illinois Senate).  Otherwise this shouldn't hurt Obama.
Ron Indiana -Guilt by association is a notion that has creeped into our political thinking.  McCain tried to exploit Obama with regard to Resko and Ayres.

And yet the Democrats did the same to Bush with Abramoff and Libby. FR and msnbc are doing what they do best for Obama - covering for him. The evidence though shows something different, but I guess burying your head in the sand makes you feel better.
Why is this a surprise to amyone?  Illinois politics, especially Chicago pls have been a running joke since I was in grade school in the '60's.  I wonder if President-Elect Obama's conversations with the Governor were over his cut on the seat sale? It's a story we will never hear, they will throw a blanket over this grenade just as slickly as all of the others.  C'mon really, did you expect anything else?
The fact is no political party has a monopoly on corruption..both the republicans and the democrats have to stop the finger pointing and look inward. If there was ever a need to purge the bad apples the time is now, the stakes are too high in regards to the future of this nation
Jerry ..Obama should apologize to the people for the scandal in Illinois when your moron hero George Bush apologies to the american people for allowing 4000 of our military to die in a war based on lies  ....  Unlike George Bush and the war in Iraq, Obama had NOTHING to do with the scandal confronting the governor of IL ....
Oh here we go again, its OBAMA fought....
Juan, sorry sir, but you are very naive.  The Bush Administration never sold appointments.  Paint whatever picture you want to attempt to deflect the issue, but this is corruption at Chicago's best.  We need not even try to justify it, we need to investigate it and bring everyone involved to justice for there to be any credibility for the future administration.
"It didn't tell us anything new about Blagojevich (he had been straddling the ethical line for some time), or Illinois politics (Blago could become the state's fourth governor in 40 years to go to prison), or even Obama (who is in no way implicated in the government's report)."  So how does it advance the GOPs argument?
I have an issue with authorities being down on many of our youth today. I also have an issue with sending people to prison for several years for what might be considered minor drug use violations. And I have an issue with anyone criticizes Amercian citizens who look for easy (and sometimes corrupt methods) to get ahead. My issue is not to excuse unacceptable behaviors but my issue is that those who lead this country are as guilty of the same corrupt, inappropriate and sometimes sleazy behavior that many of our youth and average citizens are criticized, ostracized and imprisoned for.

This country seriously lacks decent role models that our youth can look up too and that people can use as examples of how to function in society in a legal and socially acceptable manner. When our politicians are corrupt, dishonest and sleazy as well as some major sports figures coupled with television today that is filled with programs about crime and criminals along with our music that often rejects and ridicules authority how do we expect our society to be molded into law abiding and honest citizens?

Many of these politicans might sit in prison for a few years after being represented by the most expensive legal counsel available while your average citizen might sit in prison much longer for similar crimes (but rather of a blue collar crime modus operandi vs a white collar crime modus operandi), theft is theft regardless.

I see signs of this country slipping. Yes, there has always been crime and unacceptable social behavior and corrupt politicians. But it seems our society (especially our youth) have become more insensitive or immune to what might be called feelings of guilt.

Our politicians today are supposed to be our leaders and role models. Yet as more are investigated and mass-communications become more technologically advanced (internet) they appear to be helping to rip the very fiber of this country apart. If our leaders cannot be honest and trustworthy then why should the citizentry be honest and trustworthy. If our so-called leaders are proven to be out for only self  (power and money hungry) even by illegals means - then why shouldn't the citizentry be allowed to be so as well. There is a serious crack developing in this nation. And if the economic issues become even more serious where more and more people become homeless and unemployed and hungry, watch out. I am reminded of the recent riots, rebeelious behavior and burning now being witnessed in Greece. And I cannot see our politicans (leaders) asking or even expecting our citizens to be law abiding when they themselves are corrupt. Our youth are not going to tolerate it and it is already showing up in  their attitudes and behaviors.

During his two years on the campaign trail, Obama often swung and missed on his initial statement regarding a controversy -- Bitter-gate and Jeremiah Wright come immediately to mind -- before finding a better response 24 to 48 hours later.
---------------------------------------------------
The reaction to the Georgia-Russia incident comes to my mind.  I guess he's going to have to be returning a lot of 3 am phone calls two days later, so he has time to come up with a better response.
Neither party has a corner on corruption which is why the charges leveled by the Democrats (culture of corruption)against the Republicans was so hypocritical.  The former mayors of both Detroit and New York City, Jefferson of Louisiana, and now the current governor of Illinois are all Democrats who either found themselves or are finding themselves exposed for the crooks and sleaze bags that they really are.  Chsrles Rangel may also find himself with an indictment before it is all ssaid and done as well - depsite Ms. Pelosi's claim of how he (rangel) loves the Congress and the country - make no mistake, like "Blago" of Illinois, the first person that he loves is himself.
nice to know that the next 4 or 8 years this country will be run by someone from the great corrupt state of Ill. O.B. has already lied, just like "All in the family" said above. Oh well...........glad I still have my 2nd amendment. I'm ready to have this country run by average Joes who don't own any companys and don't make more then $100k a year already. God bless Texas!!!! LOL!
OBAMA HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS!!!!!!!!!

Do you all remember how Blogo campaigned for Obama? Oh wait, he didn't! Blogo had NOTHING to do with Obama's campaign because Obama new that this guy had questionable ethics. So Blogo's actions are all HIS OWN.

Quit trying to slam Obama based on something that someone ELSE did. In fact, it was Obama's CoS who tipped off the feds in the first place!!! Yeah, that's right - Obama's staff turned him in! Does that sound like Obama is complicit in ANY wrong doing with Blago?

The MSM is just trying to link this to Obama because they are bored and need something to gossip about. And certain Republicans are trying to link this to Obama because they are desperate and pathetic. The same "oh noez, Obama isn't natural born!" crowd is jumping all over this as if it means something. It means NOTHING.

You all are pathetic.
Your wrong about nothing they can do to Obama. Is he above the law. If they find out he's involved like we all know he is, he can go to prison like he should.
The whole state of Ohio politicians are thugs.
I'm with Juan on this one... I know what's worse than Obama's tepid response yesterday and that is the over-eager response from Eric Cantor and his ilk... I cannot imagine the glee they felt while the rest of us were shocked... The Republicans are going to try to throw this in the face of Obama every chance they get... Here's hoping that plans backfires and their numbers dwindle even more in 2010 and continue to dwindle until they actually come up with a plan for America that is not based on division.
This guy is an extreme example but you are seeing an insider view of politics. "you scratch my back I'll scratch yours "is how it work folks.  Scratching each other’s back in more subtle (legal) ways is common at all levels of government. This guy is just a malignant growth of an underlying decease.
I have questions now.  If he had been successful, how would he accomplish making a specific person Senator?  Voting machine fraud?  If he was so willing to do it this time, how many times in the past has he done it?  Also makes me wonder about Obama's Senate seat as well but I'm not saying there's anything to it.  But it does make one wonder.
Politics is corrupt. It doesn't matter who you are or what party you are associated with.  Last night on CNN Lou Dobbs said "this is the most un-American thing...".  I disagree.  This is about as American as it gets in politics. Sad, but true.  Integrity no longer exists here, if it ever did.

Why don't you start investigating the politicians in wyoming ???? Corruption is rampant there, as well as in the state of Alaska. Good old boys states !
If there is anyone out there that thinks this is a Illinois problem only they better take there head out of the sand. This kind of stuff goes on in every state.Thats why most have a hard time trusting politics. Now the right-wingers like Rush and Shawn will be harping on this for the next 4 years, after all the right problems they have had, they should keep there rocks in there pockets. Taking bribes, slush, hush, buying votes, giving out plush jobs to family, giving gifts, promise the world, weather it's on top of the table, or under it, this goes on everyday.
You can all keep wearing your rose-colored glasses. Something 'stinks' and no one is willing to admit it. From the get go Obama has started off on shaky ground... no we have this. To say that Obama has no association with this Governor is ignorant. All we can do is keep on catching these corrupt people. Maybe someday we'll catch them all. Thank God the FBI are keeping their eyes and ears open!
speculation by all...we have few facts yet
Forget Blago: This is a real stain on Obama's image. He's a Chicago pol and one with connections - however innocent - to Blago and his Dem crowd. How much does the public see this as a major hit on Obama's rep? We'll see...

http://www.political-buzz.com/
Makes me wonder how our new, previously unknown, president elect rose so quickly in the Chicago politics game. Perhaps Blago helped him along? Um, makes you wonder.
Why do so many right wing morons, while wiping the saliva off their lower lips, imply that Obama should be the babysitter of all politicians at both the national and state level?  Like all sources have said, Mr. Obama did NOT pay to play.
I have one thing to say about Obama's picking of the cabinet memebers from the Clinton office is that maybe we as tax payers will not have to pay for new office furniture, as the Bush's administration did.
"Obama and his team wouldn't play ball!" How do you know that Obama wouldn't play ball unless he was asked?  Obama knew this guy was bad and did nothing.  His whole career as a chicago democrat he's looked the other way.  Obama just because you don't pay to play doesn't mean you're clean if you know corrupution is all around you and you do nothing.
WoW!  Bet there is a connection to the Prez.  Too few people exist between this governor and president.
Let the republicans start and they have the biggest crooks in this administration, starting with Bush and on down. We have the proof look at this great USA and the rest of the world can also be proof. Yet Bush runs around telling nothing but lies about what he and his administration have done. This is the worst president in History.
Puleeeez. Enough from the apologists. Blago will eventually cut a deal with the Feds, and that won't be good news for BHO. Why didn't BHO just come out and say that, of course, he had conversations or his representatives did with Blago in filling his vacant Senate seat. It is only natural that he would. (How else would Blago know that BHO wouldn't play ball with him?)
Naturally, this will give the GOP plenty of ammo to try to use to take down Obama, because there are still some folk who cannot, no matter what, accept Obama's victory. All those sore losers are going to say, "See, we told you so!" and do everything in their power to damage Obama so badly that he's going to have trouble recovering before his inauguration. Look for Karl Rove to do more dirty-trickstering in order to render as much political damage as possible to Obama. Blagojevich should do the right thing and resign IMMEDIATELY, Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200. He should just admit his guilt and get it overwith. Lt. Governor Pat Quinn should then be immediately appointed Governor and no stone should be left unturned investigating him to make sure he's as squeaky clean as they come, given the awful record that Illinois governors have had of late being caught in corruption scams. Chalk that up to hardball Chicago politics, where just about all of them were forged as politicians. So Blago, do the right thing, step aside, let Quinn step in and Go Directly To Jail. Do some hard time and think about what a crook you really are and how you let greed get the better of you.
People are going to do whatever they can to punch a hole in the Obama bubble.Instead of being unified and trying to get out this mess that the criminal ( and yes he is a criminal) Bush put us in, everyone wants to continue to contribute to the implosion that is happening right now in our country. It saddens me to think that this is what things have come to.
