Downballot: That other appointment

MINNESOTA: The Minnesota canvassing board meets today to determine the fate of incorrectly rejected absentee ballots that -- if counted in the total recount vote -- could be the key to a Franken victory. But both sides have left the option open to sue over the ballots if the board's decision is not to their liking.

NEW YORK: Per the New York Post, "Andrew Cuomo yesterday repeatedly refused to say whether Caroline Kennedy is fit to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Senate, while a top Clinton political ally insisted she's clearly not. Cuomo, who is divorced from Kennedy's first cousin Kerry Kennedy, ducked questions on whether the daughter of former President John F. Kennedy is qualified for the Senate job. ‘I've known Caroline for years. I have a high opinion of her, but that's going to be up to the governor,’ said Cuomo, who also is being considered by Gov. Paterson to replace Clinton, but indicated he's not interested."

I hope that the challenged ballots get counted to preclude ranting coleman from stealing the election by stealing people's right to vote.

Caroline Kennedy would make a great Senator and I sure hope that right after Hillary steps down she gets selected.  We need every Democratic Senator in the Senate now and it's a pity that Blago has waited so long to replace Obama.

Pete,

You're not from Minnesota, why do you care?
A: The office is US Senator not State Senator. We are all be affected.

You state: Please make this sad sack cry baby whiner of a unsportsmanlike loser shut up and go away.
A: Many agree and the story backs it up.

Q: How is Franken an unsportsmanlike loser? The difference between Franken and Coleman before the recount was 215 votes out of just under 3 million votes. This is way below the state mandated vote margin requiring an automatic recount. (It was .00716 of 1%, anything less than .5% calls for an automatic recount) You do realize Franken didn't request the recount, he didn't need to it was mandated by MN law.
A: Franken has never had the higher vote count.

You state: We have never seen such a display of grasping for straws, air or anything that might change the tide.
A: Many agree and the story backs it up.

Q: Please explain how Franken is grasping at straws? You do realize that Republican candidates have been behind on original votes by much larger margins, and won elections on the recount. Were they grasping at straws, because they insisted that the given state follow its laws?
A: How many recounts were there. Franken has never had the higher count. Party affiliation should not be important.

You state: Grow up and be the man you claim to be, congratulate Sen Coleman and get ready for the next Senate run.
A: It’s the right thing to do. Franken has never had the higher vote count. This is a US Senate seat and affects all Americans. Party affiliation should not matter.

Q: why would Franken concede a race he has just as much chance at winning on recount as Coleman? Is your definition of being a man, giving up before a race is won. Do you believe either candidate should not ensure that the candidate won received the most legally cast votes should not do everything in their power to insure the candidate who won the race is ultimately elected?
A: Franken has never had the higher count after several recounts.

You state: Move on and enough of this tantrum throwing. Your democrat brethern are even getting sick of it.

Q: How is Franken throwing a tantrum? You do know the recount was state mandated, and even Coleman retracted his earlier request that Franken concede, claiming he didn't realize it was that close when he made the statement. Is asking that all legally cast ballots be counted your definition of throwing a tantrum?
A: The story spells it out clearly. Read it again.

You state: It's December Al, hear the Christmas bells ringing. A long way off from November 4th. Please give it up.

Q: Why are you so concerned that Al give it up before all legally cast ballots are counted? Are you afraid the real winner---Al Franken-- will win the recount, and will be MN next US Senator?
A: Party affiliation does not and should not matter. No fear just a desire to see this be over and move on. Is there a date at which this has to end.  Suppose at some point Franken actually took the lead for the first time. Would you then expect Coleman to say well done and give up or for him to demand further recounts. Be honest. If  Franken ever got a lead would you celebrate and say it’s over. Right or wrong? Franken has never been ahead at any point so he can not be designated the real winner. Electorial College obviously is not in play here.

Pete, Explain to me the Coleman justification for refusing to count properly cast absentee ballots, that some state employee screwed up and improperly rejected. I"d really love to know why anyone would defend refusing to count legally cast ballots. Aounds pretty un-American to me. Do you and Norm really hate Democracy that much?
A: I love democracy and fought for it, serving my country over 20 years in uniform. Friends of mine died for our privilege to vote and to have freedom. It becomes a point of when is there an end and it appears in your case only when Franken is ahead in the vote count. Thank you.

For James J. Robinson,

I am not old, (in my 40’s) not angry, and definitely not white. Racist remarks like you made here show the truth of what is in both your heart and mind and reflect the big issues people like you have that contribute to the hate problem we have in this country. I feel sorry for you and know it must eat at your gut when you look at yourself in the mirror each day my friend knowing this is inside you.

Happy Holidays to everyone. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Got to love that Liberal family fighting.

Caroline can't do any worse then Hillary did.....

Somehow I think it'll be 2010 before this on is over.  You can bet that the losing side is going to take this to court.

As to the NY Senate seat, I still say Fran Drescher.  That voice of hers will truly give the Dems a Filibuster-proof senate since everyone will vote her way just to shut her up.

Let's see, HRC was qualified to run for the NY senate based on familial association ... and Caroline is not?  Sounds more like sour grapes coming from that top political ally than anything substantive.  I'm a New Yorker and I want Kennedy!
I'm being to realize Caroline, who I do believe is an outstanding person, at least her actions have me believe that, isn't really qualified for the position.  She's always been shy of media attention.  Being a Senator sure would put the spot light on her.  Everyone would be watching her 24/7.  Wonder of she's willing to sacrifice privacy for a hugely public position in politics.
Andrew Cuomo has done incredible things as NY Station Attorney General - he cracked down on pension abuses that will save lots of tax dollars; his office has formulated a plan to reduce the more than 10,000 governments in NYS through elimination and consolidation which again, will save lots of tax dollars; he's exposed financial corruption and waste in the MTA...the list goes on.  He would make a greater Senator, but right now, he's an even better Attorney General, and as Attorney, can do more for NY'rs and have a greater direct impact on our everyday lives and actually reduce our tax burden, than if we were to become the Junior Senator from NY.  That said, I would appoint Tom Suozzi, Nassau County Executive, who turned that county arround from the brink of bankruptcy when he took office [the county was ruled by republicans for decades and was almost bankrupt when Suozzi was first dem. to take over in decades] to fiscal solvency without drastic tax raises. He cut wasteful spending, and simply manages the county much better than his republican predecessors.  He should be Senator, and eventually President.
Cuomo indicated he's not interested. Great that means a back handed endorsement of Kennedy. The governor outht to take Cumomo at his word and consider him out of the running for the senate seat.
NY Gov Paterson is going through the same process Blagojevich did in Illinois. Except he's a little more subtle about it when it comes to twisting arms.
I'm glad Cuomo has enough class to keep his mouth shut about what he might privately think about Caroline's qualifications to be a senator, given that he's an EX-Kennedy. I've heard he has other political aspirations, like maybe governor at some point down the line.
we will all find out who was "qualified" to buy hillsy's seat.  The only "lack of qualification" hillsy sees in caroline is that she endorsed Obama!

We all know it, hillsy doesn't think Ted, John in MA are qualified anymore.  Funny her learning about loyalty after she knifed Joe in the primary.

Another good point too, if you are mad at Joe for turning his back on "his" party then BLAME hILLSY!! she helped run him out of "his" party (by the way, it isn't "his" party, HE IS AN IND)
