Posted: Thursday, December 18, 2008 3:17 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Jim Miklaszewski
Sources involved in President-elect Obama's transition confirm that former Admiral Dennis Blair has been selected as the new Director of National Intelligence.

A 34-year Navy veteran, Blair was commander of the U.S. military's Pacific Command, was director of the Joint Staff, but also worked with the CIA and National Security Council.

Blair, a Rhodes Scholar and Russian speaker is considered a "brainiac" who has experience in managing large organizations. A commander of Pacific Command he's known for pushing political and diplomatic engagement over military confrontation.

I hope he DIDN'T support torture !!
Or lie about WMDs !!

The solis choice looks GOOD
Finally, a progressive !!

'...Solis to Labor

Barack Obama has decided on Rep. Hilda L. Solis (D-Calif.) to be his labor secretary, according to Democratic sources, tapping the daugher of Hispanic immigrants to serve in an important post for the Democratic coalition.

Solis came to Congress  in 2000 in part thanks to organized labor. With financial and organizational support from unions, she knocked off a Democratic incumbent who had supported "fast-track" trade authority in a heavily liberal Los Angeles-area district.

An ally of her fellow Californian House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Solis serves on the influential House Energy and Commerce Committee. She rates a 97 percent lifetime AFL-CIO voting record.

Before coming to Congress, Solis was the first Hispanic woman to serve in the California Senate.  She is the daughter of a retired Teamsters steward.

She is the third Hispanic in the Cabinet, joining Ken Salazar and Bill Richardson.

Her appointment comes after two prominent female governors thought to be prospects for the job, Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas and Jennifer Granholm of Michigan, indicated they would not come to Washington...'

fast track for trade = slow death for decent jobs

'...he's known for pushing political and diplomatic engagement over military confrontation....'

THERE'S a CHANGE !
How did he survive the Bush regime ??

We need to clean up 'intelligence'
Can you tell if a country has nuclear installations ?
Apparently the CIA thought Iraq had them....

..... Either that or Bush was lying.....

But, can he fix my dingy?
Obama needed someone to play Battleship with.
What's his opinion on NAFTA ?
WTO ?
'Free' Trade (sic)
Corporate influence in politics ?

'...President-elect Barack Obama has chosen former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk as U.S. Trade Representative, according to a transition source. Obama will announce Kirk along with two Cabinet picks Friday – California Rep. Hilda Solis will lead the Labor Department, and Illinois Republican Rep. Ray LaHood will run the Transportation Department...'

Diplomatic engagement over military confrontation.
A Rhodes Scholar. A "brainiac" who has experience in managing large organizations. This is quite a change from the last 8 god awful years. People want to know where the change is?  Obama has a BRAIN and is selecting people who also have a brain. That is change enough.

Jan. 20th can't come soon enough.
Obama really appears to be heading in a good direction which I believe is the right direction.  He seems to be selecting highly qualified and competent persons for his cabinet.  What a dynamic mix!!

I would love to be a fly on the wall during his cabinet meetings.

If his presidential-executive functioning mirrors how he conducted his presidential campaign, I believe the country and the world will benefit.  He does not appear to be threatened by the advice and input of competent the folk he surrounds himself with.  He has demonstrated that he can effectively process their opinions, ideas, and input to decide and act wisely.

So far, I still support him, have full confidence in him, and wish him well.  I believe that January 20, 2008 will mark the beginning of one of the greatest eras in US history.
Blair used to head up the Children United Now Team.
intelligence and conpetence over ideaology. how refreshing.
I like the sound of "he's known for pushing political and diplomatic engagement over military confrontation." Maybe we can get through one presidency without starting another war.
MSierra, Yolanda K and Mattell Owens must be really dense!  If you read ADM Blair's qualifications carefully, you would not make stupid remarks like you just did! Are you blonde or what???  "Stupid is what stupid does".
An "old white man", life long card carrying Republican is becoming a convert. (Don't tell my Wife!). Obama is looking brilliant on paper. Can't wait to see how it translates into action!
The proof lies in whether he or she is right for the job and not where they stand on politics. Their performance will prove whether they are right for the job. My question...Who reviews job performance for  cabinet and high ranking appointments. If not the president...Then whomever has his or her ear.  And by the way...Experience does count!
I take it that, unlike Bush, Obama will pay attention to what he says.  I cannot imagine that he would condone torture.

We didn't start the last ones.
Geez, the big "O" makes a few appointments and it's multiple orgasms all around.

I'm trying to figure out what barriers to NAFTA and free trade are erected when the new Labor secretary is a child of Hispanic/Central American immigrants and the former Mayor of Dallas, TX is the new trade secretary.  We already know what happens when we elect a Canadian governor of Michigan.  North American Union, here we come and you won't be able to blame it on Bush.  It will be an Obama conspiracy now.

Is the AFL/CIO planning a big push in Mexico?  That's where they are really needed.

Seriously, do we have to have to robotically cite race and ethnicity as if it's a qualification?  Same with gender and sexual orientation.  There is nothing about any of those characteristics that has a thing to do with ability to do a job.

But what do you do about OCDD (Obsessive Compulsive Democrat Disorder)?
