First thoughts: The full Obama Cabinet

*** The full Obama Cabinet: At his last press conference of the year before departing for Hawaii, NBC’s Savannah Guthrie reports, Obama will unveil his final cabinet picks (and maybe others!): Ray LaHood for Transportation secretary, Hilda Solis for Labor, and Ron Kirk for U.S. Trade Representative. As transition expert Thomas Mann of the Brookings Institution tells First Read, this is the earliest an incoming president has assembled his entire cabinet since Richard Nixon announced his cabinet picks on Dec. 11, 1968. Also, we’ve learned that Obama has picked Dennis Blair, a former Navy admiral, to be his director of national intelligence. The next question is if -- or when -- Obama decides to replace the current CIA chief. The Washington Post has a new name for the list, but we should remind folks that Obama isn't under any Jan. 20 pressure to name him/her. He could keep current chief Hayden in place for as long as he and Hayden want. The CIA director’s term doesn't expire at end of a president’s term, but instead simply serves at pleasure of president. Hayden would stay if asked...

*** Updated Cabinet census: Here’s our updated list after the Solis and Kirk picks:
-- 8 State Schoolers (Daschle, Vilsack, Chu, Napolitano, Salazar, Gates, Solis, Kirk)
-- 7 Ivy Leaguers (Clinton, Duncan, Geithner, Holder, Donovan, Orszag, Jackson)
-- 5 Raised in the Midwest (Clinton, Daschle, Gates, Duncan, LaHood, Vilsack) Note: This doesn’t include Chu, who was born in Missouri but grew up in New York or Vilsack who can be now considered a "midwesterner" since he had lived in and lives in Iowa, but he grew up in Pennsylvania.
-- 5 Women (Clinton, Napolitano, Solis, Rice, Jackson)
-- 4 Raised in New York (Holder, Donovan, Geithner, Chu -- who grew up on Long Island) Note: This does not include Napolitano who was born in NYC or Clinton who currently lives there.
-- 4 Basketball Players (Duncan, Rice, Holder, Kirk -- who also was a cheerleader in college)
-- 4 African Americans (Holder, Kirk, Rice, Jackson)
-- 3 Hispanics (Salazar, Richardson, Solis)
-- 3 Westerners (Salazar, Richardson, Napolitano -- who was born in NYC but raised in Albuquerque) Note: Solis is from L.A., but is that really a Westerner?
-- 2 Asian Americans (Shinseki, Chu)
-- 2 Republicans (Gates, LaHood)
-- 2 Sitting Senators (Clinton, Salazar)
-- 2 Sitting Governors (Napolitano, Richardson)
-- 2 Raised in the South (Kirk, Jackson -- who was born in Philadelphia, but adopted a few weeks later and grew up in New Orleans’ Ninth Ward)

*** An auto deal? At publication time, President Bush is making a statement on the administration’s plan to assist the auto industry. Here’s a quickie summary of what he’ll announce: Magic number is $17.4 billion, with the last $4 billion coming from Part 2 of the TARP and with $13.4 billion available immediately; there’s no use of the word "bankruptcy"; and the emphasis is on "restructuring," but viability has to be proven by March 2009 (of course, there will be a new administrator of the TARP by then). The bottom line here, it appears: The Bush administration is punting. It is offering enough money for GM and Chrysler to stay alive for a few months, but make no mistake -- this is now in Obama’s hands. Also today, at 10:15 am, President Bush and the first lady attend the unveiling of their portraits at the National Portrait Gallery.

Video: President Bush offers ailing automakers $17.4 billion in short-term loans.

*** Stimulate this: The New York Times reports today that the Obama team hopes to have its stimulus plan ready by next week, so Congress can take up the legislation before Obama is sworn in. But get this -- the Obama plan might be just 15 pages, and Congress will be able to fill in the blanks. Wow, talk about trust in congressional Democrats!  Some questions this will raise: What are the restrictions Obama will put on earmarks? Will there be transparency on pork? And will Obama threaten any vetoes if some members take advantage of the situation? Already, there is a coalition of unions ready to sell this package, semi-sight unseen.

*** Just askin’: With no real surprises with the Clinton Foundation donor list, why didn't Bill Clinton release this information last year, before the primaries got underway? Or would Bill have been forced to release them had Hillary become the Democratic nominee?

Video: Former President Bill Clinton releases the donor list to his foundation as his wife prepares to take the post of secretary of state. NBC's Andrea Mitchell reports.

*** The never-ending recount: Just when you thought the Senate recount in Minnesota couldn’t become more bizarre -- or go on any longer -- the state Supreme Court ruled yesterday that the canvassing board must count improperly rejected absentee ballots (which Franken’s campaign had wanted, and Coleman’s didn’t), but also said that two campaigns must agree on how they’ll be counted (which allows the campaigns to drag their feet if they want). The decision makes it likely that the recount will go for more weeks, possibly after the new Congress is supposed to reconvene on Jan. 6. That would mean that the next Congress might have two unfilled Senate seats: Minnesota’s (due to the recount) and Illinois’ (due to the Blago scandal). For some perspective, the Minnesota recount has now gone on six days longer than the 2000 Florida recount, which ended Dec. 13. By the way, the state Supreme Court ruling came as Franken -- as expected -- nearly erased Coleman’s lead in the recount in Day 3 of the canvassing board’s decisions on the challenged ballots. Per the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Coleman’s lead is now just five votes; the AP has it at just two. No matter the number, yesterday was a huge gain for Franken, and he very well might win. But is there a specific lead he needs to make Senate Dems comfortable seating him?

*** Happy holidays and looking ahead: This will be the final morning First Read note of the year, although we’ll be updating our online blog as news warrants. The morning note will back first thing on Monday, Jan. 5. To whet your appetite for the big month ahead, here’s a quick look at what to expect for January:

Jan. 6: Congress returns (and gets to work on a stimulus plan)

Jan. 7: Terry McAuliffe makes an announcement about his intentions for Virginia governor
Jan. 8: Congress conducts its electoral vote count
Jan. 15: The Senate Judiciary Committee holds its confirmation hearing on Eric Holder’s nomination for attorney general (the other hearing dates haven’t been announced, but NBC’s Ken Strickland says that key hearings are expected before Obama is inaugurated so these people can be confirmed after he’s sworn in)
Jan. 20: Obama’s inauguration
Jan. 28-31: RNC winter meeting in DC, where new RNC chair will be selected

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm waiting for this press conference with baited breath.

MORE TERRY MCAULIFFE!

He should go on a bar-tour with the cast of Morning Joe...

Chuck Todd to become Chief White House Correspondent -

There seems to be an awful lot of torches being passed since the election. We're seeing in politics and the media a whole new generation coming into their own right before our eyes. And this can only be a good thing. Chuck Todd is going to have a front row seat to history - a new Administration is coming to town (I know because I saw the moving van-Yes!!!) and now that reality has set in, they have a great deal of work before them. It doesn't seem so important anymore that Barack Obama is our first African American president. What's important to us all is taking back the country we seem to have lost somewhere along the way. And we believe we have found the candidate to help us do this.

Congratulations Chuck. You earned this during a very very difficult election year. You possess a very professional and respectful manner on air, you seem to be a very likeable person with a good sense of humor. And what I noticed particularly was that you always managed to bring your own independent perspective on things, regardless of what the popular opinion of the day was. (In other words, GOP talking points).

Not many journalists/commentators came out of this election year with higher grades than when they went into it. You were one of the lucky few who did.

Try to not miss us all too much here @ First Read. I’m sure you’ll have more important things on your mind from now on. Good luck. I wish you well in your new position. You’ll do a terrific job.

Just think of all the ceremonies you’re going to get to cover – especially when the professional sports teams win championships and get invited to the White House!!! I’d take those over the State Dinners any day.
Congratulations to you Chuck Todd.  I was sending emails to your bosses in support of you getting the MTP job. (But no one listens to the 600 pound gorilla setting by his computer.) Chief White House Correspondent, Contributing Editor for MTP, NBC News Political Director are positions you have earned.

I love to make predictions.  So someday you will be setting in Tim Russert's seat, just not yet.

Keep that fire in your belly, keep asking good questions, not got-ya questions and you will do well.
You are the news for the day.
"I don't want to leave a mess for the next administration". hahahaha...Bush is so friggin' funny!
The unfortunate reality for Minnesota is that regardless of the recount outcome, the closeness of the votes, plus the inevitable irregularities that occurred, means that the eventual winner of that senate election cannot claim to have actually won the election...we really don't know who really got the most votes because we will never have a perfect vote count.
Hope the folks at FR have a great holiday season!  And congrats to Chuck for his new titles and duties.  I look forward to seeing him often on the Nightly News.
I love how the font page of MSNBC.com shows blizzards across the whole country right next to an article about how Obama's picks are going to be tough about 'climate change.'

Little published fact:  The average global surface temperature has not increased in the last 10 years.
Obama so called Stimulus Package is his big payoff to the unions. How else is he able to keep them semi-quiet today? Of course, hardworking Americans will need to pay for what Barack gives to the unions. And they'll be so many pork projects coming out of the Democratic Congrees for this package that the US will be renamed The Pig Farm.
Feels so good to know that President Elect Obama is at the helm of our great country.

As we all deal with our individual triumphs and challenges, and become disappointed in various cabinet picks and decisions made by the President Elect, let's not forget what a wonderful thing we have witnessed this year.

WE THE PEOPLE volunteered OUR time, pooled OUR money, corrected the misinformation, saw through the spin, and once again participated in another (relatively :>) peaceful transfer of power.

President Elect Obama is human and will make many mistakes in the coming years. But even so, he has proven that you can take the high road to the highest office in the land.

This country could receive no greater gift.

I hope this holiday season brings you all of the hope, peace, and love you deserve.

P.S.  Congratulations to Chuck Todd on his new assignment!
Now that the bushies want that other 350 billion for their buddies on wall street maybe we will see the dems grow some stones and start treating these banks and investment firms like the vermin that Bob Corker called the union workers...I can't help but believe the folks in TN will pay a price for their boy bob being front and center criticizing the workers like he did...just because TN residents think 14 bucks an hour is great doesn't make it so...ignorant southern bumpkins will pay
Ring the bells, sound the horns, proclaim the word that today is the Impeachment Recommendation Anniversary Day for William Jefferson (BJ)Clinton. The last scandal plagued democratic administration our country had to endure for 8 painfully long years. We celebrate the justice that was carried out.
Just askin’: With no real surprises with the Clinton Foundation donor list, why didn't Bill Clinton release this information last year, before the primaries got underway? Or would Bill have been forced to release them had Hillary become the Democratic nominee?

No real surprises? Nice attempt to cover up this mess of a list. Apparently you missed one of the main liberals whipping boy company Blackwater was on the list? That, and the Saudis appear to now own the Clintons. I'm certain they (the Saudis) have the paperwork to back it up too.
Sad that today is the last of the regular First Reads in the morning but it's time for the holidaze.  Thanks to all First Read writers and posters for giving us so many good articles to comment upon and for posting so many great reader comments from us Obama supporters.

Congrats to Chuck Todd for becoming the new NBC/MSNBC Policital Guru!  He will do a great job as he's always done.

'...Per the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Coleman’s lead is now just five votes; the AP has it at just two. No matter the number, yesterday was a huge gain for Franken, and he very well might win...'

Franken WILL WIN !!
Make no mistake about it
It will be close, but Franken will win

Sorry, Norm
Go back to Easter Island
They want their head back
It's nice that Caroline Kennedy is so excited about the Democrats in New York that she doesn't even bother to go out and vote for any of them.
"But is there a specific lead he needs to make Senate Dems comfortable seating him?"

Yeah, one.
The "Stimulate this" portion of this commentary brings to light a fact that is just plain scary.  Obama will hand a 15 page stimulous plan over to congress to fill in the rest?  Is he insane?!  All I can do at this point is watch and see what happens.  Obama has shown much calculated savvy so far.  I know he already knows what could happen to that 15 page document when thrown like raw stake to the junkyard dogs that are congress.  This will be very very interesting...
Obama has done a great job picking his Cabinet, so much better than the bushwhacker did picking totally clueless bootlicking pals of his instead of competent people.  Obama will get our country out of the mess that the bushwhacker has made the past 8 years.

Happy Holidaze to all Liberals and Obama supporters and I hope you all have a great time celebrating.  To the clueless fools who are repugnant ones enjoy your lumps of unclean coal!

Free al-Zeidi and give him a Medal of Freedom!
Bush IS still president and gave a good speech this morning on the GM/Chrysler situation. Ford Says it will make it through the impending rough times so Bush's 3 month warning to GM and Chrysler and temporary loan of 17 billion is in order and fair.

Hey, if your business is failing, changes must be made or you cease to exist. There are many carmakers around. People are buying cars other than Ford, Chrysler and GM. Where is it written that the Big 3 have to exist at any cost?
I just hope that "Grinch" Bush does not make any recess apppointments during the holidaze.  He's done enough damage to our secular democracy and should just give it a rest until he leaves office in total disgrace.  Why does this bozo hate America so much?  His legacy will burn with infamy!

I will be so glad when the new more Democratic Congress takes office in the beginning of January.  It will be so nice to see so many new Demcoratic faces and a lot less of the repugnant ones.

Free al-Zeidi and give him a Medal of Freedom!
And, of course, there is still one veteran.
Emanuel talked directly to gov: source
DEEPER ROLE? | Pushed Jarrett for Senate sea

December 18, 2008

President-elect Barack Obama's incoming chief of staff Rahm Emanuel had a deeper involvement in pressing for a U.S. Senate seat appointment than previously reported, the Sun-Times has learned. Emanuel had direct discussions about the seat with Gov. Blagojevich, who is is accused of trying to auction it to the highest bidder.

Emanuel talked with the governor in the days following the Nov. 4 election and pressed early on for the appointment of Valerie Jarrett to the post, sources with knowledge of the conversations told the Sun-Times. There was no indication from sources that Emanuel brokered a deal, however.

The Tax Payers not only have to buy the cars, we have to keep the car company running...does anyone remember when it was a pleasure to drive?
Does anyone feel like the resale value for these companies will lose half it's value as soon as they drive our money off the lot?
At least there is some bailout, but will the autos be able to appease the WH on the numerous strings attached to the deal?

This is the first time that I am overwhelmed by the sheer blindness of how offensive this Rick Warren words and active preaching is to people who, yes, were born like me.  I am a Christian.  It is not about the marriage issue it is about Rick Warren's continued statements and battle against the idea that gay people are not on par with pedophiles...or committing something on par with beastiality...

He aggressively and repeatedly calls me...on par with a pedophile...

I ask you how would that make YOU feel... if a national preacher said over and over that you were as worthy of a soul as a pedophile... without knowing what was in your head...that the love you felt for another adult... ...your wife and what your wife felt for you was evil.  ...and in your heart of hearts you know that is not true.  This preacher over and over said it again and again (he said it again this morning with Ann Curry)

and how would that make YOU feel if such a person was chosen by your President to stand with him at the Inauguration...after you fought to get that President elected.

I tell you...my guess is (excuse my French) you would be pissed, offended and most of all scared

...and all those around you who respected you and cared for you...would be lividly pissed too.

This is not a small kerfuffle... go look at Warren's statements... Put it in a different societal context

What if he had compared interracial relationship couples with beastiality or called them unnatural or said they were unholy (as was a popular belief in the 50's and 60's) and what if Kennedy, King, Johnson, etc... gave those Rick Warren's of their day who believed that National prominence.

Here is my letter...

The man has repeatedly called gays and lesbians on par with pedophiles.

Can you think what it would be like if the President of the United States picked as the representative of moral and religious authority a man who has driven home a point that you were a pedophile based on not a single fact or truth...besides what is in his own head.

He did it again this morning on Ann Curry's interview...

he said gays just like pedophiles just need to control their urges and not be gay.

Is this 1963

of course if it were 1963 he would also be preaching the popular belief that interracial marriage was unnatural and maybe even unholy...

How would Barack feel about that pick...

perhaps when his mother was living in a neighborhood that strongly bought into the idea that interracial fraternization was an offense... a neighborhood perhaps she had to walk down...at night...daily.

How would he feel then when the President at the time picked a man who was vocally and aggressively preaching that what his mother was doing as an adult with another adult she was in love with...was on par with beastiality and pedophilia?

...as she walked through neighborhoods where they believed that.

How would he feel if he had walked through those same neighborhoods as the product of that relationship, as he fought and was campaigning for that President...in neighborhoods that believed that, based on nothing but the word of some social conservatives? Neighborhoods he probably should not have been going.

I did that...for him...in backwoods towns all over New hampshire... for 2 YEARS

I was one of the first 50 people doing it for him in New Hampshire

I fought daily for him for 2 years.

I gave up more than he will ever know to get him elected.

and I am gay.

this is not about marriage...

it is about a man whose rhetoric spreads theories about a minority population based on no facts (besides his "for 5000 years marriage was"... well for 8000 years slavery was pushed okay by societies including the Bible)

This choice ...this reaching across the aisle and "inclusivity"...by including those who exclude and insult...

back in the 60's...if the President said that after he chose an anti-interracial marriage preacher...

Barack would have had a lot of four letter words for that President.

and my guess is...would never support him again.
32 Days until Obama inauguration ! Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeee !!!!!
Follow-up Comment:  13.4 Billion will be just enough to keep Chrysler and GM open for about 2 months.  In order for their survival, there will have to be unprecedented cuts in car models and management positions.  Even if the auto companies do the right "cutting and planning" it will take years to get a viable product on the market to compete with Toyota and Honda.

Like the housing market, this problem is not going away for some time. Those "shovel ready" jobs will have to be fast in coming to backfill the jobs lost in the rust-belt states.

This too goes on Obama's plate.  I would like to see the Media be as understanding and tolerant as the American people.  But I know that is asking too much.
ONE LAST REV. WARREN POINT -

People are saying Obama is merely being inclusive by having this homophobe give the inaugural invocation. Ok, then where's the KKK Grand Wizard giving the homily, where's the anti-semite Neo-Nazi administering the oath of office, get my point? Inclusive does not mean including those who promote hate, and that's exactly what Warren does when he preaches not just religion from the pulpit, but a political agenda that is anti-gay, that rallies his supporters to vote to strip gays of their rights.  That's just wrong.

AND - for those saying the LGBT stop their whining, that's like saying to Rosa Parks just sit down in the back of the bus, because the view is nice there, or telling blacks in general they are just being so uppitty.
dl, exeter, nh

You sound as intolerant as the right. Just because Obama picked Warren doesnt mean he likes what he thinks. This applied to rev Wright as well

Wake up.. Once the inauguartion is over the last thing on people minds will be Warren
Life is too short to worry about something so small
Any recess appointments made by Bush over the holidays would expire when the new congress convenes Jan 6, as recess appointments are only for the duration of the current congress.
The repuks have been trying to bust the back of the unions since the 60's.Now the lame one Lil George will have the title,he will go down in history. The righty's will worship the ground he walks on.They been pissed ever since the slaves labor was removed from them. The UAW is going to have a fight on there hands, but I know they will go down swinging.I wish that Bush would just come clean, admit you screwed this country up so bad that experts are saying it may take 4 to 5 years to recover from your damage.I hope Obama will hold these so called Americans accountable for there actions,on the War,on the Bail out,on the war crimes,on water boarding.God has been watching, there will be justice, one way or another!
It is good to see that Obama's cabinet is now complete, and that the mission of moving our nation forward will begin next year. There is a lot of work to do to clean-up the mess the "Brainless Bush" Government has created. The Holder Justice Department is going to be especially busy. Now we are hearing that "Chump Change Cheney" admit to sponsoring torture. The list of crimes by the Bush-Cheney Government just keeps growing.
Nj

being upset at a man who calls me a pedophile or likens me to someone who patakes in beastiality...
and a President who puts him at the most watched national event to usher in a new era...

is not intolerance.

I guess you think MLK and Ghandi were intolerant when they were disgusted by those who had done them wrong.
dl, exeter, nh (Sent Friday, December 19, 2008 10:16 AM)

You spoke well and I am with you.  I am not gay; but I am every bit as offended.  This is not an acceptable 'outreach'.  I was pretty disillusioned by the FISA vote; but pragmatic enough to think, he is voting centrist to WIN and he will step up 'if' elected.  There is absolutely no 'business' purpose in this public 'hug' of Warren.  It is an outrageously divisive act, that is totally a lose-lose.  Truly boneheaded.

I may love the majority of the man's plans and his personal style; but I can call foul when I see a bad play and this is truly unacceptable.  I plan to write his offices in Chicago and say as much.

I don't mind a centrist governance; but this public embracing is a slap in the face to any who seek EQAUL rights for all Americans.  I have to call it the way I see it.

PS.  I guess this speaks volumes to how spiritually 'lost' he has become, since the Reverend Wright debacle?  When he said he was imperfect and that he would make mistakes, I was hoping for something a little less offensive, personally.
and NJ

it is not intolerance and if you don't know that you need to read a little more.

and NO Warren will not be going "away" after the election...

he will in fact have more credivbility and his words will too
and NO I will not just sit down as the man inciting very bad things about me gets a pass.
dl, exeter, nh:

I really enjoyed your post and empathize with you on this issue, but I ask you to remember that Rick Warren is only a man - nothing more and nothing less.

His viewpoint about homosexuality is shared by millions of Americans. While I do not share his view that homosexuality is a choice or something that can (or should) be controlled, millions of Americans do.

While it is EXTREMELY hard to hear things that are so hurtful and attack our very humanity (as a black woman - I know a little bit about this), the simple fact is - if we don't HONESTLY and OPENLY discuss our DIFFERENCES, we will never be able to move forward.

Rick Warren is simply a representative of a viewpoint. We are not required to agree with or celebrate his viewpoint. But we must acknowledge his right to have his viewpoint - no matter how wrong or how hurtful.

Only by facing our fears, prejudices, and misconceptions can we begin to understand one another. We can't just pretend that the Rick Warrens of the world don't exist, just as the Republican Party would like to pretend that the homosexual community doesn't exist.

We've tried that approach and it didn't work. Time for the hard work that we have all been avoiding - time for some real(and sometimes hurtful) talk about the many ELEPHANTS sitting in the middle of America.

It won't be easy, but America will be a better place as a result.

P.S. There are many Americans who are standing WITH you PUBLICLY - more than ever before. Don't let one high profile opponent define your existence. There is too much to celebrate to give Rick Warren or anyone else that much power.

Damn Chuck - you gotta go?  Well, we all know you will continue to do big - because you are capable of doing big things.

I will miss you here at FR - but I will always support your efforts.

Congratulation!!

Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA
Corker called Unworthy American Workers vermin? Sounds like another lie from the communist party.
It is funny though that liberals who would rather buy anything other than an American made auto are going to be forced to pay for them now without driving one.

Like a rock it keeps sinking everyday, like a rock the communist took our freedoms away, like a rock...
Bob Smith, Corruptalot, Illinois (Sent Friday, December 19, 2008 9:40 AM)

What rock are you living under? Climate change is real, the temperature has gone up in the past decade, and virtually every scientist in the world says so. And they all say it is caused by man and by CO2. The 8 hottest years on record have been since 1998, with the hottest year being 2005 (source, US EPA). We've got proof from ice core samples that CO2 levels are the highest they've been in 650,000 years. What more proof do you need? When all the glaciers have melted, sea level has gone up several feet, and life on earth as we know ceases to exist, then will you finally realize climate change is not made up?

I suppose you also believe that the world is flat, the we never really landed on the moon, and perhaps even that the universe revolves around the earth?

Just because you don't like the facts doesn't mean you can change them.
George: you're doing the right thing with the auto LOANS. It's pug disgusting that 3-card monte thieves on Wall St. get a walk, but a few senators beholding to Japanese and German auto makers would let the US auto industry fold.

Now, please stop gutting every environmental law ever written.

Oh, and get Chicken "left the country in pretty good shape" Dick some better meds.
6 days until Christmas and 32 until the adults take back the White House.
EQUAL (typo)
I've got just enough time to jump on here to wish all of you (fellow liberals and haters alike) all kinds of health and happiness for the holidays and the coming year (that's right, I didn't say the "M.C" phrase so take that evangelists).  It's been fun jabbering with you guys and I'm looking forward to 2009 when we can look with praise (or sorrow) to the new administration, and finally be done with the 8 years of BU--SH-- we've had to endure.

To the folks here at FR, great job.  Your insights into this historic election have been invaluable, even when I didn't always agree with them.  Hope you're just as insightful in 2009.

To the MSNBC prime-time crew (Matthews, Schuster, Maddow, and especially KEITH O.), you guys are the best friends a liberal can have.  Nice to know that we on the left have folks to counter the nonsense oozing from Billo the Clown and Hannity the Manatee at the Fake Noise Crapper, not to mention comedian Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coultergist, and the rest of the lunatic fringe.

Hope you all plan to take January 20th off to watch the inauguration of our nation's first African-American President.  And to those of you actually going to the affair, I AM SOOOOOO JEALOUS!

So here's wishing all of you HAPPY HOLIDAYS (in your face, Billo) and hoping to check all of you out on January 5, 2009, 15 DAYS UNTIL INAUGURATION DAY (WOOOO HOOOO!).  Until then, peace and much love.

32 Days Until Inauguration Day!
http://jawillie.blog.com
Is there anyone as hateful on this board as Eric from California?  Wow!

Happy Holidays to ALL!!
I must speak regarding PE Obama option to choose Warren for his "inauguration" it is his choice.  Just like it's our choice to be gay, straight or have to an abortion, or be a racist.

You can't please everyone and if you hate PE Obama choice - fine, but is that all you have to do is bash him because of his decision to pick Warren?

Is there anything you people that oppose Warren can see that maybe good because of this pick?

I do - Warren's book, even if you completely disagree with the man and his believes - for those Americans that may have lost their way or seek some sort of hope or guidance or path to being happy and are not afraid to live.

This pick by PE Obama maybe a saving grace to people that are in need of it and just maybe Warren’s book can help people think positive doing these bad economic times.

Instead of being selfish; open your hearts as well as your minds.

More on - this country is about everybody not just the class, group, and genders- or political affiliations -

As long as the government or people are not trying to infringe on our rights as individuals - anyone and I mean anyone in America should be able to voice their opinions whether it is popular or not.

Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA
Happy Holidaze to all Liberals and Obama supporters and I hope you all have a great time celebrating.  To the clueless fools who are repugnant ones enjoy your lumps of unclean coal!

Eric, be nice at Christmas. Even the Republicans deserve a little love this time of year. Peace on Earth good will toward men and all that stuff.

While I am no fan of Bush, Al-Zeidi does not deserve a medal. Like it or not Bush IS the President of the United States. You may not like the man or his policies, I don't, but he needs the respect only because of his title. The nightmare will be over on January 20, so take a deep breath have an eggnog or a stiff belt of brandy or something keeping your eye on the prize, the inaugeration of Barack Obama.
It is wonderful to see the selection of Ron Kirk. He has the experience, temperament, and skills for the job. Being a life long Dallas Democrat I know him well.
I guess it is withdrawal time for all of us who are addicted to the politico drug. I have to so the election coverage was excellent for the most part.

I have to keep in mind that the purpose of the new media is to sell the news and if there is not any, then make it!  During this interregnum, there has been real news, but there has also been much needless speculation when setting back, keep track and the reporting the discrepancies would have served us far better.

I hope the news media is learning that to second-guess the President-Elect is not a wise move.  So, take the break and him him a rest to do what he needs to do to get his country moving without all the nits biting at his ankles.  There is be sufficient news to report - the mess we are in guarantees it.
it is not just voicing opinions

it is giving him the platform for the largest audience the world has ever seen

and the creedence and credibility that goes with it.

it is an endorsement...  and he is not just one man after that happens.
